there will be no rain!!

at least, that's what I'm hoping for. If it starts sprinkling, we'll lose 3/4 of our group :D

okcacehole
May 10 2007, 04:11 PM
I won't be there until 5:30 myself so if you guys can't wait I will catch up.

Andy I have your discs if something changes

baldguy
May 10 2007, 05:02 PM
I think we can wait. If nothing else, we should be able to put together an established teams card that starts about 5:35 :)

there is rain activity all over the area... but it's dry here for now. Here's hoping it stays that way.

well... it's better than the nazi propaganda you had in your sig before ;)

Well when they (being the liberal left) start talking gun control, they need to be reminded of who else felt that way.

In other words, if you favor gun control, you have something in common with nazis.

SIG :D

Parker/Tabor -9..Murphy/Jones -7 (2 bogeys), Krell/Bucky -7 I think...Josh/Cole -5?...Kevin...4 or 5

Pizza - we have basket #7...it finally fell into the creek...we are placing it back in the ground tomorrow close to the old spot, but enough from the side until it errodes again or the city finishes up the back side.

Porter tomorrow at 5-5:31 :D

A-Z all weekend..We have a Am, Adv and OMB team..

plus PINK/COX...at least one of them registered through us, but I think we can put Frank and Sherri on the list :D

Good times are almost here...............

Thanks for the update.

Put it a little closer to #8's tee pad, (but not too close)

Man, I imagine it was not easy picking that one up. It has the largest block of concrete of all the baskets. I remember putting it there years ago.

Tell you what, if I have a flag, I will mark where I am thinking (and survey the damage)

Exactly...we thought about locating it on the down hill slope closer to the water, but after erosion it would become a "short" basket..just on the tip of the hill about 25 from the water..

lengthened it up a tad bit..but nothing drastic...

Call Parker in the morning if you want to check out the final location..Parker..the post hole digger is in our front closet

There actually wasn't that much concrete on that basket..the top was a few feet wide, but just normal after that...2 quick bags should fix it

Definately safe from hole #8 pad!!!!

I will give the props to the other boys that grabbed it out of the creek and then Parker and Tabor for taking it to safety

CARROLLTON - MOW THE "BOOGER" COURSE :D

Sorry, I was unable to make it out there last night (or this morning) i think my gout came back, my foot is majorly hurting and swolen and I have no idea why. I can bairly even drive. (have to use the emergency to break a few times on the way to work because i could not push down hard enough on the break pedal)

Where i was going to locate it was on the edge of the ridge, but twards #8 tee pad. (that slope going down to the creek)

How is the erosion near the basket of #6?? It was getting closer last time i was out there.

May 11 2007, 01:44 PM
HEy I got a good idea for that basket placement! Just stick it back in the water i shouldnt have a prolem hittin it there...; p

steve_parker
May 11 2007, 01:59 PM
Pizza... on that slope between the creek and the tee box is exactly where Adam stuck the stick in the ground.... I bet I can get it within a foot or two of where you would place the flag...

I finally snagged the #1 Texarkana DGA bag-tag last night...won by a stroke! I think I came close to setting a new course record...but then I found a few trees on my last couple of holes.

Now that I'm done basking in my own glory /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Good luck to all you guys playing A-Z Doubles this weekend...go knock 'em dead! I'll b enjoying the soothing sights and sounds of Harry Myers park most of the weekend...no place like home :D

Todd/Murphy -14 Porter Parker/Anderson ( part of the round) -13

PARKER ACES #12 AGAIN..

tomorrow we really play ;)

baldguy
May 12 2007, 07:48 PM
Dann/Cole finished +9 for the day, Team T&A +2. Parker/Tabor was -2 the first round, not sure about the second. Ben and I are 2 strokes off the lead in MA2, certainly nothing to complain about. More fun in the morning... TEAM SCORE at the Vet. Should be interesting :)

2 times in a row they couldn't even locate a manager..that may be why their service and watching of the business sucks so bad

Great round tonight with Jack, Anderson, Parker, Bucky, Josh, Gary and myself..

see you guys at McKinney tomorrow or Porter Thursday

What's the status of the baskets at Greenbelt and Porter? Wasn't there one moved or relocated at Greenbelt and did one fall into the creek at Porter?

Saw this much from above but I'm having trouble making out the full status.

#7 at GB fell into the creek but Steve replaced it into a similar spot and #11 is still missing

All the baskets at Porter are in the ground.

I won't be playing open at McKinney...I am an Am player :D

I will be out there a little early today 4:30 or so if anyone else is coming out there early.

Nobody hit tonight and it showed with the "low" scores...everyone was running baskets..

Not sure what the PRO score was, but Ben shot -8 in ADV and won

tomorrow is Porter...

Gary - I am not going to make Rockwall and may work Sat. morning...we will find a round Sat afternoon and Sunday

baldguy
May 17 2007, 09:52 AM
pro was -8 as well

not very good golf last night, but it was awesome weather and a decent crowd. 40 isn't a record, but it's up there. next week will be higher (as will the ace pot). Porter tonight!

oceanjones
May 17 2007, 11:02 AM
What time for Porter tonight?

baldguy
May 17 2007, 11:23 AM
5:30 as usual. there's enough light that we might be able to wait till 5:45 if someone really needs it... but unless we hear otherwise, we're starting at 5:30. you gonna make it out tonight?

oceanjones
May 17 2007, 12:49 PM
Trying to. :)

On another note, I just payed Mace for the Rockwall event. I'm really lucky it fell on this weekend since im on call 2 of the next 4. Then it will be off to KCWO.

baldguy
May 18 2007, 11:54 AM
Maybe, if it doesn't go too late. Some of us have a tournament in the morning :)

Fun times last night. Todd and I were looking like we might beat the course record until we got to hole 13... then we kinda fell apart. -11 after 12 holes and we finished -11. We were in a very generous mood :D. Good golf from everyone else too. Murphy/Woody and KCPro/Bucky tied us up at -11. Justin (cali) was right there too with a nice -10.

Rockwall tomorrow and casual golf on Sunday. Maybe some casual golf tomorrow too for those who aren't making rockwall.

garywatts
May 18 2007, 03:16 PM

So what's the deal on the ace pot in McKinney? Are you eligable if you haven't been playing and contributing to it? I know some mini's only let those that play regular have a chance at the big pots.

I am off most of next week for vacation with some family in town and we will be playing all over I am sure. I will keep you all posted, but I am sure we will try to make Mckinney on wed. and carrolton on thurs.

reddman
May 20 2007, 10:27 AM
Is it a brown-billed Jack? :p

gwstrider
May 20 2007, 10:38 AM
It's a Gooney Bird...flat billed...usually found roosting on the ground but occasionally seen in trees and even in water looking for it's lost "eggs"! Hillarious to watch since they usually travel in small groups and emit some of the most unusual sounds found in the animal kingdom while jumping, hopping and flinging their limbs about at ramdom intervals! :D

Or it could also be the new secretary of the Leave-no-disc-behind Club! :)

oceanjones
May 20 2007, 11:40 AM
Its not a Brown Billed Jack, but is closely related to the Gooney Bird. If nobody gets it today I will reveal the identity of this amazing bird tomorrow.

PS This bird is def. in OMBYGB.

Is that Fuzzy Wuzzy???

Parker???

For those of you that don't know already...we got done golfing yesterday and had a laid back day until Dieter(sp?) smelled smoke and it wasn't their smoke...

the apartment down-stairs and one across burned completely yesterday evening...Todd and Dieter's place survived but it covered the entire apartment in smoke.

Murphy screaming "grab what is important to you guys" and then see Todd and Dieter running down the stairs with their discs.... :p

I am so glad everyone is safe including the lady whose apartment is now toast

May 20 2007, 03:31 PM

That is the elusive Woody-Pecker...sought after by the DPD for at least 2 years now :D

oceanjones
May 20 2007, 07:13 PM
Josh nails it. That is the elusive Woody-Pecker.

There I am standing on 8's tee pad getting ready to tee off and I hear "JJ come give me a boost". And of course I come running. Now, I've seen squirrels climb, I've seen monkeys climb, but you should have seen the way this bird could climb...simply amazing. I stood gasping as he wriggled his way between the poison ivy, poison oak and sticker vines. Then, I thought that he was stopped for sure as he came to a virtually impenetrable set of branches and vines. Amazingly he crawled around, through, and on top of it reaching his goal in a matter of minutes. Two cards of "serious" disc golfers stopped to gasp as he ascended and descended in a matter of moments leaving bugs, birds and bogeys in his wake. Swinging down arm over arm he placed his marker and calmly took his next shot. Only one word could describe this. SpecWOODular!

One good thing about the ace pot at McKinney is that it will most likely be over 500 when I hit it next week! :p

Ryan and I took our chances at the Lake and played some rainy golf. The rain got the best of me as I fought my way back to even, but Ryan was a bit different shooting a 46. I should be in Carrollton Thursday, but I'll let you know later in the week.

Dang, I must be getting close to 900 posts now! :o

No rain...Sunshine...and deep aazzzz putts

I may not be able to clean up the 20ft today, but 75+ was in the range

Still can't believe 18 spit like it did...

What would it take to fix the pad on #16 at GB?...Would a new and un-latex coat of paint do it, or does the pad need some grinding before anything else??

Pizza?

Thor
May 30 2007, 11:29 AM
Yeah that pad is slickerd n snot on a door knob, i think sand er down and itll be fine. The bright side is you cant really make it worse.

baldguy
May 30 2007, 12:18 PM
it needs to be sandblasted or at least power-washed to get rid of that paint. It never should have been painted in the first place... the graffiti should have been removed, not covered up.

Terrible golf for Parker and I last night... -4 didn't get us our dignity :D. It was still fun as usual, though. Good food at Herrera's but I still like the atmosphere (and smoking section) at Los Lupes better. On the other hand, you really can't beat $3.25 Negra Modelo. Maybe we should do more Herrera's.

Tonight is looking okay for a muddy round of ace runs at McKinney. There's a huge storm in the area right now, but it should go away before too long. If we get a couple hours of sun between now and then, I'm in.

heading to minnesota majestic tomorrow, hope to represent OMB v. YGB. Two great courses and a great pro field. A few weeks ago I was thinking about palying in MA1 since the MM1 field was so small, now I'm going to stick to the MM1 field and hope not to finish DFL!

As I drove by Porter this morning I noticed one of the trees guarding the right of 7 basket is down, hate to see that.

Looking for a 168-170 wt. sidewinder. I'll stop by the course this afternoon, If anyone has one hopefully we can make a deal.

Made it out to McKinney last night. played skins w/Ben, Leonel, Rob Dawson and Johnny. As best I can remember, Ben won the first round with -7 or -8. Rob was 1 back and Leonel and I were 2 back. I was fortunate to take 9 skins. Johhny won the second round w/-7 and took most of the skins.

baldguy
May 31 2007, 10:40 AM
yeah that tree falling down took some away from the hole. Still not a guaranteed birdie, but it's easier now. With all the changes Porter has gone through related to storms and the creek, I think the SSA has dropped about 2 or 3 strokes in the past few years.

Last night was

-10 JJ/Bucky
-10 Todd/Mark
-9 Murphy/Parker
-8 Me all by my lonesome

good stuff... I was okay with -8 playing cali. I should have been better than that, though. I always seem to flub the first hole in cali and end up with a bogey. I also missed 2 20-footers (with 2 putts at them) on #2 and #11... so I should have hung with you guys. I guess we get to do it again tonight but hopefully I'll flip better this time :). Should be dry, see you people this afternoon. Ben, if you make it out tonight, bring your stash. I might help lighten your load a bit :D

Awesome day of golf at CH. Beautiful weather all day and not too much mud. Got to meet one of Nate's buddies just home from overseas, even got to play a round of golf with him. Good times all around... Stubborn man even showed up (sans roomies). I got home and told Deidre that Krell made it but Murphy and Todd stayed home... she asked "what, to spoon all day?" :D

Jack, Kevin, Parker, John (new guy) and the Bitners are all heading to Rockwall in the morning at 9:00 to help warm up for Waco on one of the more difficult courses in the metroplex. I think I'm going to stay home and do some serious yardwork. We just spent almost $300 on sod, soil, plants, flowers, etc... gotta get that stuff taken care of. I might make the afternoon round... we'll see how the morning goes.

will do...

I had to share this: Deidre and I are watching the movie "Running With Scissors" right now. very strange movie indeed... but the insane psychotherapist is one of the greatest characters of all time. He is a rather old man played by an actor named Brian Cox (from Deadwood and multiple other fames... no relation to the local disc golfer :)) Some direct quotes (it's set in the mid to late 70s):

woman - "Welcome, Doctor. Can I offer you a Sanka?"
doctor (very calmly and matter-of-factly)- "No. I would like some slices of bologna and a side of horseradish."

(as the family stares into the toilet bowl containing the doctor's morning poo)
doctor - "my turd is a direct communication from the holy father"

I love this movie

I finally got out to Rockwall on yesterday, me and my 15 yo son. Going out there the day after a rain is not advisable, but even though I skipped half of #4 and all of #5-7, and had to ford areas that are normally dry fairway, we enjoyed ourselves, despite the numerous insect bites and waterlogged feet. I finally got to see what the fuss on #17 was about. I had no problem with the OB, but I couldn't tell where the last part of it was. I was near the last tree that defined the OB, but I couldn't see any flags going from that tree to the pond/water. Are they just not there, or did I miss them?

BTW, are you guys a group thru which you can get a club discount for renewing memberships?

Josh - I guess that didn't make much sense...I had a Mace Moment there... :DI meant the Bitners if you didn't figure it out..

no golf for me at all today. we just finished putting in grass to fill bare areas of the front yard, plus we completely re-did the front flowerbeds. I had a great time, the courses are super. I played pretty well except for the last 5 holes the first round(+6). was 5 behind going into the last round (25 holes at Kaposia). Came back to take a one shot lead, only to lose it again. The winner played great down the stretch and made a 3 on the second to last hole, a really tough hole where i made a 5. Payout was much better than last year, first was $90, 2nd $60 and 3rd $30.

Good to see you are playing well Josh. Play a solid second day and we might even be proud. Round ratings are messed up as it was inputed that everyone played the same courses each round so it shows Josh with a 1021 round for the 1st round and a 793 the second. Jun 10 2007, 11:00 PM
the trees didn't get me... but a road sign and my putting did. 5 OBs and no birdies were enough to cause me to not only throw away a 4-stroke lead going into the final round... but drop me all the way to 4th. My mental game just isn't ready for advanced and I proved it today. I had it locked up, was playing well through 3 rounds. I even improved by a stroke on the beast playing just-okay golf. Then I managed to mis-add Alan's card and help cause him a 2-stroke penalty. He was still in second and still in the hunt... but I felt terrible. He even wrote it down correctly the first time but I thought it was wrong and told him to change it. He re-added and agreed with me... long story short, I couldn't get that out of my head and just played like an idiot for the entire fourth round.

Once they get the ratings figured out, I bet that last round will be low enough to keep me rated in MA2 on the next update. If so... I'm staying there till I figure out how to keep my head from screwing up my game. +11 on Old Cameron (albeit with 15, 17, and 18 in their long positions) is terrible golf. I deserved to lose... it was the Carrollton Open all over again :D

Hey fellas, I am new to town. I am living in Rowlett and I would like to play some rounds with locals. Till the rest of the family joins me later in the week I am free to travel around some. Give me a call at 336 380 5670. My name is Levi and I will need good directions too. Thanks.

There is a great course in Rockwall that is close to you. Tuesdays and Thursdays we usually play at 5:30 in Carrollton at Jimmy Porter or Greenbelt, but that might be a bit of a drive (20-45 minutes depending on traffic and what part of Rowlett you're in). Feel free to come join us on tuesday or thursday. There is also a good mini in McKinney on Wednesdays at Alex Clark Memorial. All of these courses can be found on the PDGA course directory. There will even be a link to get detailed directions to the courses from your address.

Ace pot starts at $63.00
CTP tonight will be hole 6

Most of the course is mowed down, so you shouldn't have too many problems finding your discs. Hope to see alot of you out there tonight.

NOW THATS SMACK TALK!!!

We play singles on the first Saturday of the month. BYOP doubles the next 2 Saturdays, then flip dubs on the last Saturday. We usually have about 5 or 6 teams that show up to play. We would always like to see more than that though.

We are going to be having a workday this Saturday, so hopefully more people will show up. But then again, work might mean less people.

Jun 13 2007, 03:54 PM
thats right Justin.... and for the life of me I cant figure out why....

its not like you are dumb....

in fact you are pretty darn sharp and quick witted to boot....

that being said, and myself being the nice guy that I am, I shall attempt to fix your weak, diluted attempts at trash talk....

its really simple Justin.... only thing you need to do is practice your lying skills....

its obvious to me that when you start with the weak stuff you yourself do not buy it for an instant and it shows in your delivery.... :o

your just too honest Justin.... seriously.... it IS possible to make even your feeble fumbling attempts believable if you can just block your conscience long enough to deliver the crap with conviction.... :)

but seriously Justin.... being too honest to spew fantasy as if it were the truth is a much more admirable trait than being able to trash talk.... :D

Jun 13 2007, 05:03 PM
I'm not 100% sure about this... but it almost looks like Steve is trying to talk smack about Justin's smack talking abilities. This is akin to Rosie O'Donnell critiquing Roseanne Barr's dietary habits... but, I suppose it's better to have smacked and lost than to never have smacked at all :)

it was actually 660. We played all shorts except for #2 and #12... I think Ron thought it was going to get hit by more than one, but who knows. he said "you just never know what I'm going to do" :). Steve Brower almost took it home with a *very* solid hit with a comet on #4. I still can't believe it didn't stick. dead center of the chains, hung in there for a sec then hit the rim and out. Crying shame, especially since he and I had a 50-50 split :)

porter tonight 5:30

i saw them mowing GB if that was the reason were playing porter, i really have no preference tho. Just stating...

baldguy
Jun 14 2007, 01:35 PM
It's proven easier to just rotate between the two courses so we've been switching off every week between GB and porter. I think most people prefer porter... but it's nice to have (a little) variety :)

Ron won't be there next week so I'm running it for him. I say let the ace pot grow and if he wants and it doesn't get hit next week he can take it back down to $599. For my tastes I say next week will be fun!

Back to the woods :D

OK...ok...here goes...

5 is...
A. Steve's true pdga rating.
B. The age at which Steve's brain stopped maturing.
C. The number of strokes Justin beat Steve by on his way to -14 last night at McKinney.
D. All of the above.

Steve how is that for smack talk?

Well, I can't do tonight, but I have the day off. I think I may have roped parker into a round out at Rockwall around noonish. (Waiting for him to call) So if you have the day off and nothing better to do...give me or Steve a call and come get a round in at the best course in the North. :)

Murphy, I didn't realize that tonight's dinner was for your b-day. Count me and Deidre in. I don't think I can do golf, but we both can do dinner. Call a brotha and let me know where and when.
