glad to see such a strong group on Tuesday...This week is back to Porter on Thursday and I don't think we should discount GB next week just because a basket is missing

Pizza??? Do you already know that #12 is gone at GB???

we can figure that out next Thurs, but Gary is off for a SAT finally..

Cedar Hill..Saturday at 9am...both courses...lunch in between..??

12 is gone????

That suxs.

At least that basket was in bad shape.

Funny thing, at porter, there are a few baskets you can just pick up out of the ground, yet we loose one near the street at GreenBelt.

I will call the city to at least tell them about it.

Thor

It might be about 5:15 or so when I get there this afternoon. Shouldn't be any later, but I do have an architecture meeting that is supposed to end at 4:00... and these things never end on time. If we're starting at 5:30, I should be there in plenty of time.

National Weather Service says only a 20% chance of light rain (or snow!) in the morning and 20% chance of light rain in the afternoon. With as bad as our luck has been lately in this respect.... we're due for some rain-free disc golf :D. See y'all in the morning. I'll bring some extra handwarmers.

Ok, Adam, you got any sweet Star Red Wraiths????

How about a Pro Wraith, mine is a little worn out.

Actually, any Star or Pro would do, I do not like the new CE plastic, turns over on me, I gave mine away.

I would take 3 Wraiths of any mix of Star or Pro plastic for it. (please nothing less than 165)

So, we got a deal????

Sounds good to me Pizza. Are you set on RED ? I probably have a few Star now but I don't think they are Red.

I am going to get a new shipment of Aviars this week or next and could check getting you RED..also what weight do you prefer on them. I don't usually shoot anything under 170, but I would think I can get close to the weight you prefer.

Did you clean up that Buzzbee?...can't have the center of that disc funky and sitting around in a house :D

Does anyone else need Wraiths, TeeRex's, Sidewinders, Aviars and some other misc Innova and Discraft? All new. I can check and see what is left before I order.

yeah all day saturday at CH was awesome. not too cold to play, and a light dusting of snow for most of both rounds. In April. In Texas. And it wasn't even below freezing. Fun times.

I was wondering how long it would take for that to come up. The quip of the day was Bucky telling us how the conversation went between Todd and Adam that morning..."Hey Murphy you gonna go play disc golf this morning?" "No Way" "Then quit hogging the covers".

Hey, anyone headed to Nacogdoches this weekend? If so, would you consider splitting some expenses? I'll drive and we can split the room for Friday and Saturday night at EconoLodge...2 people...30 per...3 people 20 per person...

I was planning on leaving Friday morning but I am open to other suggestions if you plan to travel along...

No NakedRoaches for me this weekend and most likely not Crawford - still waiting to see if it is sanctioned or not, but I don't think I should try and play 2 rounds out there or 4 at the PO.

I know Just and Jack are talking about heading out there but I am not sure if they are staying out there or driving back and forth.

Porter tonight at 5pm - we can wait a bit if you can't make that but give me a call after 4:30 to let me know. I won't be back around a computer today.

no golf for me this afternoon. I may even have to skip thursday, we'll see. work is hectic.

Keith is going to be in town this weekend. If Crawford ends up getting sanctioned, we may play there... but most likely some casual golf on Saturday. He hasn't seen the new course in Rockwall, so I think that's a good place to spend the day.

BBD - most likely casual for us also and I was hoping to give Rockwall a fair review now that I can throw again

10 players tonight...Krell and Todd rolled all night, but I did beat Jack/Parker, even after playing Odd Man the final 9

Mike - you missed some great putts and drives..and 2 circle 5's...and a lost putter :p

GB is the plan for Thursday...

if I don't go to the Rangers game tomorrow..I am going to try to make McKinney Mini...keep your eyes out for an OKIE brother of mine..Jason Schwake (sp?)..at McKinney...

d*mn good times tonight and I enjoyed the album Bucky...I'll give you my feedback later :D

Wish me luck guys...I could always use that! :o

Then the following week it is off to the beach with disc golf along the way :D...while there ...on the way back :D...after the return /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif...well, you get the idea! :D

Rockwall is definitely the plan for Saturday. Deidre and I are "dogsitting" for my parents while they're out of town thurs thru sat. I need to drop off the dogs at his house Saturday morning... sets up perfectly for playing Rockwall all day. Plus... it's a decent course that I don't mind spending time playing ;)

Apr 12 2007, 03:23 PM
Greenbelt tonight, starting probably at 5:45. most of us will be there by 5:00 though so we may start a card early if we have enough people. Call someone if you're going to be getting there after about 5:30.

hole 11's basket is currently MIA. We need an 18th hole. I propose playing 18's basket to 16's basket as a make-up hole. It crosses the creek but leaves you close to the bridge (the bridge is also an obstacle for that layout), so it's easy to cross back. It doesn't make you backtrack over much of the course, either. I think that should work unless someone has a practice basket they can bring with them to set up the Carrollton Open hole C (my favorite of the alternate holes :D).

thoughts? ideas?

Sorry to interrupt guys.....

I am just trying to spread the word . In the last 2 months, 4 baskets have come up missing in the Eagle Mountain / Saginaw area in Ft. Worth Texas. 3 baskets missing in Saginaw, and as I discovered the # 7 basket is missing @ the John Hauck designed Eagle Ranch. If you have them in the ground, do something , they are out there . If anybody comes across a random course with a bunch of different baskets , shout @ the discboomer , I would like a word or two with whomever is responsible .The Eagle Ranch basket is a fairly new Discatcher with the words " **** the elevation " scribbled across the belt. The Saginaw baskets will stick out because they have large green numbers on the top, or the toppers will be burned from the welder that was used to fix the numbers to the top. If you have any info, I would love to get it . Thank you..

baldguy
Apr 17 2007, 01:05 PM
for what it's worth, Greenbelt #11 was also recently stolen. Nothing too unique about it, just a plain-jane Mach-III looking basket. I know most of the folks here are already aware, just mentioning it again since it's relevant.

Time to start coming up with beter ways to secure these things...

If I were to order just basic Innova discs for us..would the choices be:

Wraith, Teebird, Starfire, Valk, and Aviar?????

others..let me know...

baldguy
Apr 25 2007, 01:29 PM
I think the best choice would be some club-stamped discs in an assortment. We could pay for the ones we want to throw, then sell the rest. Any proceeds could be used to sponsor local events... Maybe more work than most people want to put in, but I know Innova has some really good deals on club fund raising discs. I might even be willing to front the cash. Let me know if you want to work something up.

okcacehole
Apr 25 2007, 03:40 PM
These discs won't have anything to do with custom stamps ( expect they are already TWISTED stamped )...

I am just placing an order for some Wraiths and wanted to see if anyone else wanted something in the basic line of Innova discs..

baldguy
Apr 25 2007, 05:00 PM
I know, I was just saying that while we're ordering large quantities of discs... why not get them club stamped and raise some money at the same time? If you don't want to be a part of the ordering process that's cool too... I just don't want us to be the only DG club without its own discs :).

Steve Wind, you out there? weren't you going to draw us a logo? :D I need something for the site and the discs... and you are definitely the man when it comes to DG logos. send me a PM if you read this any time soon

okcacehole
Apr 25 2007, 06:58 PM
That's further down the path with Twisted right now..we are currently just tyring to get a rotation going where I will have some discs that we all throw, cheaper than you can find them online or at the stores and keep a stock of the newest plastic and most used.

Steve did say he was going to draw something up.

steve is going to work on a logo, I'm sure it will be a good one since this is an odd year. we only have to look at the MJCO logos to see that he does his best work in odd years :D

once we have the logo, it will be used on the website and we can put it on some discs. If twisted can help us with it that's cool too, but I know we can get them straight from Innova in large or small quantities. I think the minimum order is 50 discs, and I'll be happy to front the cash for the first batch even if it's more than that.

Once we have some discs with our logo, I'd like to see them used as CTP prizes at tournaments (on a donation basis) and sold to locals to help raise money for the tourneys we sponsor. I can even sell them on our site, but that opens up issues I don't really want to deal with, at least not right now.

New subject (okay, back to the posted subject):

The Paul Giles Memorial is this weekend in Athens. Deidre and I are signed up and we've booked a room. We won't be staying at our place in Athens b/c it's not really livable right now... but we will be visiting it :). Is anyone else from the club planning on making this one? It's looking like great weather in Athens this weekend and it's a flippin b-tier. Athens is only about an hour and a half from most of us, so it's a 1-night stay or a back-and-forth situation. Who's in?

Jack and Kevin played a seperate game tonight at -11 with a few dry runs...they had the potential to tear up GB tonight..

Krell/Bucky and Todd/Murphy tied up at -7 and Dann/Parker..-4 to -6 ( not sure)

Good luck to Ben, Steve and Jack in masters this weekend..maybe Ben's ace today will run him through the weekend and his first OMB registration :D

Here in Athens, Tabor is tied for the lead in OMB and I'm trying hard to sneak my way into cash in advanced. I would be 2nd in MA2... but I wouldn't feel right :). Parker and I are tied, shooting identical rounds today. Neither of us should be happy about our play... but it could be much worse. I managed to birdie #16 this afternoon (I'm pretty proud of that one... not too many people managed a 2 on that today), but it was preceeded by a 3-putt 6 on 15D and succeeded by a stupidly played circle-5 on 17.

Anyway it's still a fun weekend and all of us have a chance at cashing. Only one round in the morning... it's a bummer, too. I miss the safari final 9.

Without transport that could be hard. A majoraty of us live in the North Dallas area and usually meet at the course to play. However, on the weekends, Cedar Hill is usually played at least once a month. Maybe one of us could pick you up to go out there.

I don't like to say bad things about a course, but your home course is not marked and no one seems to know where the tees are. (that, and it is only a 9 hole course)

Do the Irving guys still play out there???? Last time i played there, I ran into a few of them.

baldguy
Apr 29 2007, 09:50 PM
yeah parker shot very well to get within one stroke of catching jack. I continued the downhill slide... maybe Parker's right and I should play MA2 next weekend in OK. I gotta get some tourney confidence and I think that means I gotta win a couple. I can still play MA2 for a couple months, maybe even after the next update since I didn't do well this weekend. I'm not 100% sure though... I can say that if MA2 is playing any different tees, holes, courses, etc. from MA1 then I'll just play MA1.

Anyway, Athens was beautiful. Deidre tied for 1st in the rec ladies division and missed her putt to push the first playoff hole. She still played above her rating and is getting back into the swing of tournament golf. We'll both the at Paul's Valley next weekend.

Congratulations to Jack and Steve...and a very nice 3rd round Steve! You almost got there! :D
Deidre...Ya did good!
Josh and I still have some work to do on our game for sure...
I had a terrible second round where I let my emotions get out of control...after really screwing it up bad though I was glad that I finally listened to myself and settled down or it could have been much worse!

It always comes down to 3 things for me...putting, putting and putting! Even though I missed around 8 putts for birdie that were less than were less than 30 ft the final round I still managed to squeak out a +1...the first round was the same but I had 5 birdies somehow and still had some really bad luck to end up +6 for that one...the second round nothing worked...drives, approaches or putts!

WHEN I get my putting to some kind of consistent good...watch out for me! ;) I am coming for you Jack and Steve!!!!! /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Now if only I could find someone to play with for A to Z dubs! :(

baldguy
May 01 2007, 12:12 PM
Ben, I still need to hear back from Giles (since I already asked him) but if he can't play then I need a partner for A-Z as well. Maybe we could play MA2 since we're both rated there and get a win like Murphy/Todd did a couple years ago (and no that's not a personal attack) :D. Deidre and Heidi are teaming up in the am ladies division, T&A are supposed to be playing MA1... If one of our OMB teams will step up, we could potentially win all of the Am divisions. I heard Jack and Kevin aren't going to make it... is that true? Maybe Parker/Anderson should play and uphold their title :)

Deidre and I are also going Saturday morning. I don't think we'll have room for any more people, though. If it was just me I'd offer up a free ride, but Deidre and I usually need the whole car. women don't pack lightly :)

I definitely know that packing thing

Ok, I need someone to make a map of both Carrollton courses. (I already forgot her name) from one of the local schools just called me. The students have been learning how to play disc golf and she wants a map of the courses so she can hand them out to the students.

BTW, she has been trying for 3 1/2 weeks to call the city contact for disc golf. He has not called her back either.

Please post or send me and PM/Email if you would be able to put something together we can use.

I think we might be able to talk Pat Brenner into adding them to his list of GPS-mapped courses. Using overhead photos and GPS waypoints is an easy and efficient way to map a course, and Pat has put the results of that functionality into a website. send a PM to sandalman and tell him I sent you ;). If necessary, I can map them with my GPS sometime soon.

At least someone knows how to play in bad weather. It is very sad when only 3 people play on a Thursday. BBD won with -1 and Adam was even. Notice how my score was not included.

That is sad in and of itself..someone could at the very most take a aerial google or mapquest and put some arrows on it..

Speaking of...Bryan...does Carrollton even have a yearly budget for the courses...??? replacing baskets?? bridges??

What a round...

I know I lost 1 Wraith..Krell lost one or 2...Josh 2 or so..

We had a full rainbow after the storm passed and played #1 and #2..then BAM....we joined up with some neighbors up the hill on #2...they let us borrow the porch :D

played to #5 and no way across the creek with safety...after a few futile attempts...we walked all the way back around and finished the round up..

Josh wouldn't stop hitting birdies or par saves from deep and I went for the win on 18 and ended up deep and a +1 :p

that's okay...he said he was playing MA2 this weekend...not sure how I will work the Nanni Dollar on this one, but Bucky will beat Josh

No pressure Buckster ;)

Glad you guys had so much fun at Porter...I feel so bad that I wimped out not wanting to slog through that mudfest! :D
I decided if it was to be mud then McKinney would do for dubs...but only 6 showed and out of them only four of us played! /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
So Barry and I took on Phil Clark and Giles...they didn't stand a chance!
Although we skipped 8 due to the standing water again after last night, the rest of the course was quite playable and not really all that bad...just stay out of the water puddles and make up new shots to get around all of the newly downed trees! 18 actually has a big tree laying down all the way across in front of the basket and the limbs reach top of basket height...had to go over the top and land behind the basket to get a clean putt, yeah...good rhyno, good rhyno!
New trees down on 7, 18, 17, 8 and some big limbs on 1.
It made for some really interesting shots that needed to be made...thanks to a really good day for me, I made almost all of them and we wound up -14 for 17 holes! :p
Thank God for helping me with my putting again! :D
Made me want to go right away and play a tourney!

I wish you all the best of luck this weekend at Paul's Valley in the Flight Line Open! :)
Later,

I don't know, man... I gotta agree with Pizza here (mark this day down on yer calendars!) and say I thought it was a good bit. It was fun, and the crowd got into it... found myself laughing at it, as well. fun times this weekend. Not much of an OMB showing, only one of our famous old guys made it. Grats to Steve for representing :). Todd starts off with a 1000-ish rated round and takes home cash in Advanced. Deidre wins Intermediate women, shooting 100+ points above her rating. Pizza God
May 07 2007, 01:34 PM
didn't have enough confidence in him yet. I only had the one asst manager and I was working on traininig him for eveninig shifts.

now the new asst manager startinig this Friday has worked for me before and he will be reliable. But he will only be working for the summer, comming up August he is gone back to Tech. (BTW, he loves the course out there)

I am looking for a full time asst manager to help me run the store. I will need one by the end of this summer. I thought the new guy was working out, but he did have his little problems that showed themselves on Saturday. (one of my drivers knew him and warned me he has walked off the job in every job he has had)

May 07 2007, 03:26 PM
I think his point was that employee problems caused him to miss the event. He wasn't sure the guy was good enough to run the store without him... and it turned out he was right because the guy bailed saturday in the AM.

Anyway, if Krell does apply for the job... hide your spoons :)

Greeting from Texarkana, Land o' the Pines...

I'll be back in Big D this weekend for a wedding - depending on where yous guys are playing on Saturday morning (*cough-cough Rockwall cough-cough*), I might be there for a few rounds :D

BTW, If any of you are ever out this area, you've got to check out Cedar Glades DGC in Hot Springs, AR....absolutely beauitiful. It took about 2 hours to get there from Texarkana, but it was well worth the drive...I only wish I had time to play 2 rounds on Sunday. The course itself is entirely in the woods, 90% through very hilly terain. I'm gonna check out the courses in Little Rock in a few weekends, and I'll report back with my findings /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Can't wait to play Hot Springs.

You will like the course at Burns Park in North Little Rock. It is worth the drive. 36 holes of fun. The blue course is longer than the Red course. But I like both of them.

From Texarkana, it not that far to drive down to Shreveport and play the courses down there. Make a weekend of it and hit the casinos while there. (or the Race Track)

As soon as I get settled in here with my new position at work I'll probably take a week off and try to travel to some more distant course...I read somewhere that the guy from Gateway built or helped build a course near St. Louis that looked very mountainous...you ever play any courses in that neck of the woods?
