Check out the pictures and information on one of our newest courses in the DFW area set to open next month.
This information was posted by John Houck today:
The online tour is now up. Thanks to graphics guru Zach Mallard and hostess Patty Justice.
http://www.golfdisc.com/design/rockwall/
I am very excited about this course. It has:
* A gorgeous venue. The park is just plain sweet.
* Big trees, decent hills, and maybe an occasional water hazard.
* Several topnotch holes, including one of my all-time favorite Texas par 5's. The weakest holes out ther are just average -- not a stinker in the bunch (IMHO).
* A great mix of open and tight, including four nice holes cut through the woods.
* Superb support from the parks department. Andy Hesser, who got the two Georgetown courses put in when he was Parks Director there, is making it happen. And making sure it happens right.
* Probably the nicest tee signs I've ever seen.
Please note that we put the tees and baskets in the photos. They're not all finished yet in the real world. We also need to spend another day trimming trees to make it perfect.
This is already one of my top 5 favorite public courses in Texas.
So enjoy the online tour for now, and I should have information soon about the grand opening in March.
And it looks like there may soon be more good news about a couple new world class courses in Texas.

Hey, Steve, I start spring break this Saturday. That new course might be calling for us to come visit it this week - not next weekend.

I would like to see the Crawford event moved to the new course or is there any chance one of the new Mesquite courses could be in the ground by then?
baldguy
Mar 01 2007, 09:33 AM
It looks like this course isn't in the ground yet. I'm sure they're going to finish clearing before the baskets or tee signs go in.
I was hoping to find a round today after work, say about 4:45 or 5:00 if anyone is interested. Either Carrollton, the Lake, or the Colony (it's the closest to work). Lemme know.

Mar 01 2007, 11:03 AM
I don't think the Crawford event is moving, at least not this year.
I'm not sure of the real schedule of the Rockwall course, but the Mesquite courses are going through design approval by the parks department now. There are still some compromises to be worked out on the design.
The Debusk course will be a 9-hole white/blue level course
A red/white level 9 hole course will be added in the northern part of Mesquite.
Paschall will be a blue/gold level 18 hole course.
I don't think any of the mesquite courses will be in the ground before the April date.

The park is scheduled for a March 17th opening at this time. The pads are already done and they are working on the baskets and signs over the next 2 weeks.

gotta hear the second round scores,,, nice first round today parker,,, double digits baby
okcacehole
Mar 01 2007, 09:51 PM
about the same...Todd and I stunk up the course with -6 and Parker/Anderson and Krell/Dann -11 each
baldguy
Mar 02 2007, 11:28 AM
yeah, murphy and todd insisted on "established teams" and even though I've probably played fewer doubles rounds partnered with Krell than with anyone else who was there, they also insisted that Krell and I were an established team. It was a funny joke until we beat them so badly :D
Parker and Anderson did well, tied with us at -11 We had 12 birdies and one bogey that shouldn't have happened... but -11 to tie wasn't bad in the wind we had yesterday. The two lowest rated players in the bunch with little-to-no experience as a doubles team... maybe next time you guys will want to flip for partners :)
Match play tomorrow, players meeting at (cough) 9:00am. see y'all there
steve_parker
Mar 02 2007, 02:13 PM
it has now dawned on me as to why bbd insists on playing above his rating.... he believes his own press.... :o
but I will give credit where credit is due... bbd did play pretty good yesterday and putted even better....
okcacehole
Mar 02 2007, 02:57 PM
Yes, I am not sure who was putting out there yesterday, but it wasn't the Josh Dann we usually see. Both of them played great and we didn't. You didn't even shank a drive until hole #17 :D
Dieder and I played poorly yesterday and followed it up with Todd and I doing the same. 2 guys on a card that are trying to quit smoking..good idea..bad idea :p
Tomorrow is another day and match play has nothing to do with the final score...just if I beat you one on one...
right now the OMB field looks bigger than the YGB's. I hope you guys will make one large field or we at least get some MA1 players to sign up tomorrow morning.
See you guys at 9am (HA). Parker...you ready to go play today?
baldguy
Mar 02 2007, 04:39 PM
yeah hole 17 was fun... that teebox will get redone this year if I have to do it myself :D
as for the one-on-one... care to put the nanni dollar on the line again for this tournament? You earned it with your ace, time to put it back on the line. If you're not skeered, that is :) I'm signing up in the morning and Deidre is going to walk with me. If by some stroke of luck they get enough ladies to form a field, she's going to play. Player's meeting at 9:00... I'll leave the house about 9:30 :p

Mar 02 2007, 06:28 PM
I passed the Nanni dollar back to Todd yesterday since he found some Nanni at the bar :D

Talked with Cory "Chops' Flippin this week. He (and a few others) are going to redo tee 17. I told him I would reimburse him for any expences out of the carrollton course funds.
Hey, next time you play, post or IM me what tee signs need to be replaced at both courses.
What I need for Greenbelt
Sign, plastic, backing.
What I need to know for Jimmy Porter.
sign, plastic, backing (to the sign) and backboard (to help prevent kicking sign out from behind.
I already know about #4 at Greenbelt. That tee sign is in my garage. We need to dig a new hole. I thought I would move the t-sign when I reinstall it.
I also know we need a new sign for #12 at Jimmy Porter. Someone (city I bet) ran it over.
baldguy
Mar 03 2007, 02:06 AM
What's the cost of the teesign? I'm sure the club can put together the cost of that thing, especially if it gets us mentioned on the sign :). I think we can do something about the rest of the stuff needed for new signs as well. I'd like to see the course improvement fund spent on actual improvements to the course like teepads, etc. I don't mind helping find money for the rest of the stuff.
match play in a few hours. my new RC helicopter has kept me up far too late. I might just have to bring it to CH if wind conditions permit :)
baldguy
Mar 03 2007, 02:09 AM
well, I just checked and it looks like there will be too much wind for the chopper tomorrow. If anyone is interested, this is it:

The Carrollton course fund has been used to replace the tee signs several times over the last few years. Some get old, most get damaged by inconsiderate part users. A few have been damaged by vandals not related to disc golf.
If we really want all tee pads. Lets sell hole sponsorships for Greenbelt and use that money to buy tee pads for both courses.
The problem is, the back side of Greenbelt and Jimmy porter have not been done yet as far as the creek.
There will not be much changes at Greenbelt, but at Jimmy Porter, we are talking about compleatly redoing holes 7 to 16.

Mar 05 2007, 12:58 AM
I would like to see #17 at Porter pulled from the ground also and put some dirt in. That is a very dangerous teepad. #7 at GB needs to have the basket moved sometime soon also. A few more big storms and that wall will errode and the basket will be in the creek.
Ray and Tom McCutcheon (sp?) won Innova raffles last month - how many is that now Ray? I know you and Duke win about every month :D I have won 2 of them and got a mini basket out of the deal for the first one.

The new Rockwall course was great. A lot of diversity. Dieter won with a 64 (even or 10 over depending on how you want to look at it as we played the longs), I shot a 67, Parker I believe was 71, and I'm not sure about Watts. It was a little muddy after yesterday's rain, but a lot of fun.

good to hear about the new course. I was torn between playing there tonight and hitting McKinney for the start of the mini season. Can't wait to see the new course on Saturday. I'm in for 2 rounds. Not everyone that comes out has an established team. There are just a few that will be going to World Doubles that will want to play together and you don't have to worry about getting stuck with me :D I think I will just try to walk the course today. Not golfing yet on the ankle.
We will start arriving between 4:30 and 6 and start close to 6pm - see you then Rusty

Well, I am done packing up the van and just about ready to head out the door to pick up JD Ramirez before heading out to San Angelo! Leonel is already out there and will meet up at the hotel! It's going to be FUN!
They have revamped the course (I have not played there yet) to add a few holes and extend the course to 21 holes...from the longs it is supposed to be over 8K feet! :D
I believe the intermediates will play a short and medium on Saturday and LONG plus a final nine on Sunday...Pros will play all longs according to what I was told by Carl Wamsley the TD! I am sure they would like to have more opportunities at the ace pot! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
I hope to take Monday off to find the course in Rockwall and check it out! :D Maybe Leonel can make it too! :D

3 rounds? Is that the plan for tomorrow Parker? I don't think you will have enough time for that. I am sure I can only do one.
Had to skip out on today's McKinney round to make sure and give the ankle a day off. Walking the course yesterday wasn't terrible but my ankle did swell up a little. It was just good to get back to the course
baldguy
Mar 16 2007, 03:43 PM
3 rounds is what I originally suggested for tomorrow, not realizing how long the course is. Parker was just responding to that. I think 1 from the shorts, 1 from the longs is good.

Todd was talking about playing Porter tomorrow, which means about 4:30PM if anyone is thinking about playing. The two Nates shooting a 46 from the shorts at Rockwall was pretty cool today. They over shot hole 2 from the shorts for a nice two and also had a two on 16 from the shorts.

Hey Dudes! San Angelo was LONG! /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif It was not the nicest course I have ever played as I thought there were too many holes that had the same shot (same angle to the wind...same D...pretty much same tree lines) but it was longggg from the long tees/long pin placements!
Here is the poop on the scores...3 McKinney players: JD, Leonel and me. 3 Winners: JD 1st in Open, Leonel 4th in ADVANCED, and I took 3rd in Intermediate! It was quite nice temp wise albeit with a bit o'wind both days. Leonel could have taken 1st in Advanced with a par on one hole instead of the actual blowup 6 in the final nine. He was putting FIIIIINE!
Let me tell there are some people out in West Texas that can throw some BOOMERS! Parking holes at 450ft with NO elevation to assist!
It was a really fun trip and the payout was quite nice compared to most PDGA events even if it was mostly Discraft discs...
We even took home some dough for having won the "longest drive" ;)...to get there, ha! BTW two longest actual drives in the contest were 490ft (a REC player!) and ~550ft (Advanced)!
Got to run for now...However, if anyone would care to join me tomorrow (Monday morning) earlyish (1030-1130) to try out Rockwall and see what all the jabber is about, I would love the company! :)
If you don't have my number...Murphy or Parker or J. Dann should have it!
Thanks for all the well wishes for the tourney...we did represent!

Just wanted to say hi and tell you that I had a chance to stop in your town and play the beginners course at Borden when I was traveling back from PA. Since I still couldn't putt at that time, I only scored a -7, but it was a nice break from driving and my dog Jake and I had a good time!
Next time through I hope to have enough time to play Warrior's Path...it sounds really nice! :)

hey guys... I sure did have fun this weekend over in San Angelo with Ben and J.D. The turn out was 90 players. 3-pro..20-advanced...35..intermediate and the rest.. Nine of my Fort Stockton buddies and my uncle were great hosts to us..J.d. won the putting contest, me and a guy from San Angelo won the night round. The course was tough. wish you guys would have been able to go, I really think you guys would have done well, lots of 450ft holes. I missed all the trees in the first 3 rounds and found all of them on the final 9.... advanced shot from all the same tees as the pro's. I had the second best score on the 3rd round., lots of wind out there ( star max...star max ..star max) putt....

Hey Murph, finished the test and sent it in the next day...
I have to get started on my T shirt right away now! :p
Along those lines...same things happened in Intermediate again out in San Angelo...Guys throwing before the start, extra throws during the round, throwing outside the tee box, putting from the side of the marker, falling putts, marking the disc from the side to reach around a tree and THEN placing the foot on the side to gain extra reach, it was frustrating and hilarious at the same time...once again beat out for second place (one throw) by someone doing falling putts the whole round, sheesh! I think one more Intermediate tourney and then I will move up to Advanced Masters regardless of the outcome.
All you masters better watch out...I am not coming to take lessons... :D
Well....gotta get busy and get my putts for the morning in! :D
BTW I played Rockwall on Monday...I will reserve some judgements on it since the wind was blowing about 40mph or more...finally found number 3! :o ...It misses one of the things that I think any course SHOULD have, and that is beginers tees...still being new to this game (<2 years), I know how daunting that course would be to someone just starting out! WOW! Maybe they should post a warning sign with directions to McKinney for new players! /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif ;)

Last night they were still deciding between the BON and Rockwall for Sat. Gary is going to call me after he gets out of work at 12 and Todd won't be ready until an afternoon round.
I am not sure I will be up for either. 18 holes yesterday went okay but I don't want to put too much pressure on the ankle over the weekend. I still couldn't throw 300 even so Parker and I walked off with a -3. Todd and Josh shot -9 and I am not sure what Krell and Rusty shot. Billy caught up on #14 with a new player named Brian and they finished the round up along with a single player in town from Victoria, TX.

This morning at Rockwall, both Bitners, Josh Roberts, Ben Cole, Justin,Justin's brother-in-law Scott, and myself made it out this morning, I believe Jay won with a 65 and Justin and myself had 66's. We had a 2nd round at The Bon, where we lost the Bitners, but gained Glen Perkins, Watts, Dieter, and Todd. Watts and Todd led the way with a 2, oh no, that was a plus 2. Josh R. playing cali had a -2 and Glenn and myself had a -2 also, with Dieter and Ben at -1.

I see a few stakes in the ground out there, but mostly I see short tee pads marked by someone.
I have long holes for almost every one out there. I would like to mark them someday with posts.
No jogging trail that i know of. I asked them not to out there. But told them if they did, I would design the course around them to avoid conflicts.
As far as construction, they are "suppose" to do Greenbelt first. The contstruction on Jimmy Porter will take out all the back 9.

Those stakes go from hole #4 down to #2 and then across the road. Someone else spay painted the ground all over the course with #'s ( if they are hole #'s they are wrong) and the practice basket area is marked on the ground also.

I think we did gb last week so..... it should be porter this week if memory serves me correct.....
baldguy
Mar 26 2007, 05:59 PM
actually, the last time I played was two weeks ago and that was GB. If memory serves (and mine isn't as old or polluted as parker's) the rest of the group played Porter this past thursday. Assuming that it's an even rotation... that puts GB back up on the top for this week.
Personally, I don't care... I just want to play golf :)
Mr. Wind: the McKinney wednesday night mini usually starts at 6:00, but it's not officially starting for 2-3 more weeks when Ron will be well enough to start it back up. Until then, a bunch of the Wed. night regulars have been meeting up there at about 5:30 and doing something that loosely resembles a doubles mini.

Thanks for all of the grats. It was a good weekend except for the first three holes. Lesson to the all, don't ever give up, even after a par, triple circle seven, circle five start
keys for the tournament were made putts, straight drives and advil. :)

The McKinney Mini on Wednesday nights are at 6 PM and they officially started last week. Ron Silliman had surgery and is still recovering...therefore TJ is running them for a while until Ron gets back on his feet fully. Last week was the week for everyone to shoot like chit...it was REALLY SAD! :o  You would laugh your #$*&$! off to hear what the scores were from the short tees in Advanced! :p
Everyone is welcome! We have essentially broken down to three flavors: Open, Advanced and REC...$7 for all...1 Ace, 2 Course, 4 payout.
Come join us if you can! :)

Once I know what the heck I am doing at work I am going to try to work 7 to 4 so maybe I will be able to make some later in the season.
You might even be able to get Watts out this week. If I recall correctly he had Thursday off so Wednesday night would be good for the boy
I heard that Ron was out playing about a week ago

Congrats on the victory, guys! How does it feel to be the best (advanced masters doubles) players in the world? :D
I'm probably going down there this weekend to play - gotta get in at least one more round before they close the place. How was the course looking? Was the waterfall in full effect?
TAKIN' OMB WORLD-WIDE!!!!!
way to go Mike and Parker!
manderson
Mar 27 2007, 02:22 PM
the waterfall wasn't in effect, but the string sure was
steve_parker
Mar 27 2007, 03:20 PM
yes... that string was brutal to us.... that was our second hole... we took a triple circle 7 on that hole, along with another ob stroke on the next hole....
I thought I was in a nightmare.... we were +6 after our first 3 holes of the tourny while the other team on our card was -1 at that point.... being 7 strokes behind after 3 was pretty depressing....
but Mike was right.... never give up....

c'mon out to greenbelt tomorrow before 5:30 and play with us. We usually play random doubles and we usually have anywhere between 6 and 20 people on Thursday nights. No money changes hands unless you want to play 51, we just play for brags and grins. Bring your discs and your smack talk and come have some fun :)

the rain looks like it will stay to the west of us for now. I guess we'll know more later, but I'm planning on GB at 5:30
