That's why I was asking..Mark L. is on there in MA1 and MA2 also...

PIO is two one-day events. Adv. and Rec on Saturday, Pro and Intermediate on Sunday. Mark and I are playing both events. I was originally going to set it up as two separate tournaments on titledisc, but decided against it. I might switch it back just in case one gets close to filling.

Got to play Lake Bistineau yesterday and man... what a treat. It's a state park with some very cool shots and great scenery on nearly every hole. $1 per day per vehicle ain't bad. They even have a real live discatcher in the park office when you walk in. We're gonna have to plan a weekend trip out there as a group. They have cabins to rent right on the course with BBQ grills, etc. lots of wildlife to be seen and some holes play through ancient trees with spanish moss hanging from the branches. Thanks Mike B. for showing us around your almost-home course :)

Also got to play Springfield Hobbit in Mobile, AL today. It was getting dark by the time we got there, but we played 17 of the 18. Much more challenging than it looks at first glance. great use of elevation on a few holes, a dangerous river running alongside a few others (it ate my CFR Wraith on one of the downhill holes ). Overall a very cool course that I will be back to see again with more daylight.

Tomorrow morning we're going back out to the Blue Angel course here in Pensacola. man, I love vacations :D

Glad you liked Bistineau...definitely a gem of a course. I met Mike for a few rounds out there yesterday. Its only an hour and a half from Texarkana, so I've been playing out there a lot lately. If you guys are ever planning on going out there again let me know.

Sunday will be CH I think. PT and Carrie should be able to make it, myself and Deidre and I think jbitner are in. Who else wants some CH?

Tomorrow there will be some golf, too. maybe Lewisville, maybe somewhere else depending on where ppl want to play. 4:15 is a little late though to get in a full 18... fortunately I'm off tomorrow and can play earlier :) Who else is off tomorrow? papa B wants to play, I know that much. Where's good?

in that case, lemme know which course you're playing and I may join you, depending on what happens with the rest of my day.

we just bought a brand-new $700 dryer on the 22nd, put one load of laundry through it, and the damned thing already stopped working. Service man should be here in the AM to explain why this piece of chite is giving us problems already . after that, we're playing golf. If it all gets done in time to play carrollton at 4:15, I'm in :)

Happy belated New Years everybody! If the tradition that says "whatever you do on New Years day, you'll do for the rest of the year" is actually true, I'll be playing some pretty decent golf on some great courses in 2008!

Next time any of you guys are near Shreveport, try to check out the Garland Scout Ranch in Stonewall, LA (15-20 minutes outside downtown Shreveport). Its an awesome course...secluded, scenic, mostly wooded with few open bombers, Houck design. Its private, so you'll have to call first to get the gate unlocked...but it's well worth it. Ice Bowl out there next Saturday morning...

See some of ya'll at the PIO this weekend...

B. Final ties for first place in any division or for the reduction
of field size must be broken by sudden death play. Sudden
death play shall begin with hole number one unless a
different hole or series of holes is designated by the
Tournament Director prior to the start of the tournament.

Parker asked the same question, so I'll tell you what I told him:
"Well, I do ask for the player to enter his rating when he signs up... but there's no guarantee of accuracy there, and the PDGA doesn't provide an automated mechanism to access that information. I can add in the inherently unreliable player-entered field if you think it will help... maybe with a disclaimer that this is not the actual player rating... but then I bet you a dollar that people will just start entering [censored] ratings to be cool or funny or whatever.

If I can build a way to get the player's ratings info programatically, I'll for sure get it in there. Ya know at one point I offered to code that technology and a bunch of other technology for the PDGA (for free) and they stopped returning my emails."

so there's that. I want to provide that information... but the PDGA doesn't want to give it out in a way that other sites can use it. Perhaps a new rating system is in order... we'll see.

i noticed there is no novice division, did no one want to sign up for 25$ and play novice? according to chuck kennedy the whole casual golf community is waiting for us to let in the novice level players, they would flock to our tournaments because recreational was way to intimidating

baldguy
Jan 04 2008, 12:29 PM
mace opted not to offer Novice. As did Jeremy for the Lewisville event in February. That's a choice that I think a lot of TDs will be making this year.

If mace follows his own history, he'll let the girls play in their divisions regardless of size. The PDGA allows it as long as there are at least 3 participants on one card (they don't need to be the same division).

I didn't drop. I played in the intermediate division where I belong. I have played for about 7 years and have progressed to a rating of 930. My back hurts, my elbow hurts, my fingers, shoulder, knees, etc. have hurt in the past and probably will in the future. I don't expect to get much better if any at all. I am not an advanced player and have never professed to be one. Thank goodness I have MM1 to play in which allows me to be competetive and consistently play on the top card and cash in most events. If i were under 40 years old and was forced to play in advanced events for the past couple of years I may have finished 18th, 13th, 29th, 19th, and 27th and never would have cashed. I might have quit playing in tournaments. I would have praised the pdga when they implemented the new guidelines which make a division of players with ratings from 900-935. since I am over 40 and can play MM1, the new guidelines aren't too big of a deal except it gives me a choice. I can compete in both division, I can play with different people. I played with 5 players at the pio that i had never met before. I liked that. maybe you should try it Adam, maybe you'll like it too. I don't care that you put :) on your posts. quit raggin on me.

To all OMB-YGB's, whenever you play, casual or in an event, I wish you all the luck and hope you play your best. period.

you give yourself not enough credit and get some thicker skin. If you can't take some smack talk you are on the wrong thread. That's why the smiley faces are there.

Dropping down a division is dropping down a division no matter what the rating # is IMO..would you play Novice if you could due to rating #'s ??

Think about all the "ragging" you gave Joe Sofinowski...Same exact thing...I definately believe you play up in ratings when you play at a higher division..I know I jumped up after 2 yrs of Am 20 points on aveage when I went to Advanced.

Sorry, but I am from the old school of golf thought when ratings and all this junk didn't exist. If you won a division once or more, you moved up depending. Once Pro, always Pro. Back then we had 200+ courses, not 2000+ and less players..Baggers were ragged on, but it is never a personal attack.

The pdga has some bad ideas on this IMO, and you are playing within their rules, but I don't think it will help your game overall..and getting some ribbing for it along the way is all part of disc golf.

baldguy
Jan 07 2008, 08:33 PM
in fairness, it's not "dropping down", it's a brand-new division. Just because it shares the same name with the old Intermediate division doesn't mean it's the same division.

the divisions from last year are gone. This year, we have new ones. People should play where they feel comfortable and where the PDGA allows.
