I thought it was on Sunday's Ron and we have already had 3 or 4 of our gang out that way and I am sure many more will come to give a hand.

We helped put holes at Cedar Hill and I have worked many other courses up North..not sure if the CH Trees worked for my Karma, but putting 20 benches in at Dolese in OKC sure did...7 aces in 6 months while I sunk benches!!

Dec 06 2007, 12:33 PM
46 would be the best available score on that course given the length. That means you birdied...4,5,6,7,8,12,13,14,15, and 18. That's all the birdies and you would have had to only bogey 3 &17. Everything else par. If this is the case, WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW. Great shooting.

Dec 06 2007, 12:34 PM
Nope, It was from the blues. Can't forget that round.

If it was a par 3 we took a 2, par 4 we took a 3, par 5 we took a 4. Im not sure what the course par is.

I wish I could do it in singles.

Dec 10 2007, 10:19 AM
I had 4 non-suck rounds...but I was unable to break that 960-970 barrier to give mysef a shot at the win.

Those courses are tough but fun! The weather was perfect! The tourney ran really smooth (with the exception of 15 on the Red course, 40 minute backup). I'll be heading back next year if possible.

Alacrity
Dec 10 2007, 11:07 AM
15 alternate will never by played in the tournament again. I play the hole and get 3's and 4's all the time. Even had several good chances at a 2. we thought this year that if we cleared the fairway up it would be better, we were wrong. So if you want to test yourself on the dreaded alternate 15 pin you will just have to come play a mini or two.

baldguy
Dec 10 2007, 11:36 AM
I played that hole for an easy 3 - short pad / alternate pin. I had much more trouble with the long pad / normal pin... Personally, I think that the long pad presents much more of a potential backup than the long pin for a typical A pool. My card experienced a much longer backup on 16 long tee / long pin than it did on 15 in either configuration. Of the two hole 15 configurations, I think we waited 5 minutes on the short pad and about 15 on the long. 16 long was at least 30-40 minutes. 16 short was almost nil.

Dec 10 2007, 11:48 AM
Thanks for noticing Adam.. That was the only round I could manage to hit a put. Amazing how the BOB card can help your putting! Gr8 courses first time to see them.. It's a lot to take in with all the alt pins, longs, shorts, but very sweet. Will definately have revenge next year..GRRR...Oh by the way check out my 3rd round Rating.. Totally lost my mind, gr8 learning experience. Someone said they drop that round out of the ratings if its 100 points lower than you average.. I hope so. :p CONGRATS to my wife AGAIN on her second win in a row. I think shes starting to figure it out. She got a granite trophy that was sweet and she was proud of it... Big thanks to POWER for a GR8 tourney.

Alacrity
Dec 10 2007, 12:06 PM
16 was not supposed to be played in that order, that was a mistake we made in trying to get two groups setting up the courses. The intent was to play 16 long tee pad to standard pin and on Sunday from short tee to alt pin. Next year 16 will be set up correctly and that should shorten the wait. On the other hand, the mandatory and the shule make that a hard hole regardless of the pin placement.

Well, you see... what happened was that Murphy decided that we needed a bunch of people to renew through the club. Then he decided that everyone who renewed through the club would be members of the club (they have to be, or they don't get the discount). So, anyone and everyone who knows Murphy has joined the club and renewed through it. Now we have a huge list of members which doesn't hurt anything really... but then again, doesn't get us anything, either. JD must not know Murphy, so he's not in the club.

I'm honestly not sure what the motivation is behind the big renewal-through-the-club drive... but it seems to make Murphy happy, so I guess it's okay with me :). I just hope that this year he remembers that club membership doesn't have anything to do with how you renew and that he doesn't try to kick me out of my own club again if I don't get it done in time :D

What Josh????...everyone said they wanted to be in the ACP last year, so I paid the $25 and got it done...

we had 23 people sign up through the club so it must have worked for some of us

being under the ACP gets everyone $5.00 off their membership, free officials test and discounts at some retailers on discs.

I have never touted JD or Coda as in or out of the club..neither one registered with us and JD and I know each other well.

either way...sign up full price or don't. No water off my back..just trying to keep this thing going that allows our own message area to post, will come with extra copies of the magazine this year and allows us to be part of the PDGA ACP program.

See the renewal post on how to renew Nate..it can be done online right here or if anyone needs a paper renewal form I can get you one.

being an affiliated club has its benefits for some people, that's true. I'm happy to be one (even if the PDGA has decided to screw over some of the businesses that support their events in favor of more profits).

I guess I just would like to see us do more... like a real disc golf club... it seems the only time we organize any effort is when it comes time to give money to the PDGA. With our roster, however it was gotten, we could really accomplish some things. Why do we push the renewal so hard when it doesn't get us anything tangible... but yet we don't push to build a mini or a monthly, nor do we push to help with building new courses or anything like that? I'm not saying that none of us do those things because obviously we do... I just mean that if we can get 23 people to register through our club last year, why don't we put that energy into something that helps the community rather than simply padding the already-over-padded pockets of the PDGA?

Dec 11 2007, 06:35 PM
Nate has talked about a Rockwall monthly, I think we should support him as a club. I think we could also do more with local tournaments. I'm sure they appreciate our monetary donations, but I say that next year for the Carrollton Open, we actually organize some course readiness work days (easy stuff) and do more than just play the event. Bryan always works so hard... I think we could help shoulder a lot of that load. We could also help with other clubs' events, like the VPO, etc. Mace and I are going to be running an event in Rockwall (plus maybe Audubon if we go 2-day), the club could help out with that... there is lots we can do without having to head up a major undertaking. Do we want to start doing volunteer lists like we do donation lists?

josh.... what the heck are you talking about "padding the already-over-padded pockets of the PDGA"....

if you wanna play in sanctioned tournaments you gotta be a member of the governing organization..... and the way I understand it, renewing through a club saves you 5 dollars....

now, if you want to get together with mike anderson and start a competing organization that does not include dues of any kind, heck, I will play in those tournaments also....

and as to the helping pizza with carrollton open, if I remeber right, he has asked for work day help one time... it was this last year.... HE DID NOT SHOW UP....

if MY name showes up on a work detail schedule, dont be dissapointed when I dont show up.....

what I meant by padding those pockets is a commentary on how greedy the PDGA has become. I'm not saying I'm going to stop being a member, but you gotta admit, they don't give much for what they take. Especially with all the "extra veins of income" they've been going after.

love the debate and we should all melt the minds sometime if some of you are serious

This weekend..(weather provding)

HOW ABOUT

Sat - Rockwall..MINI...you call the cost Nate, but I think $10 is pushing it over the long run...I will be there

Sun - McKinney Clean ....20 show up to clean up the new course...how many holes can we accomplish

Ideas, fodder, and thoughts...

anyone want to complete these ideas???

Other idears???....

you can only type so much Josh, and I know we are on the same page, but pushing this sport is Baby Steps :D, and
I agree money we can provide...but that isn't the solution

but...courses, teepads, mini's, DFW golf in general is what we need...

YO Pizza..how do you feel about the extinct DDGC sending their baskets to the next course founded by one of our own???

Flag will never happen and I would like to see a new course made from past courses

I wish I didn't know about baskets out there that are not on the up and up, but let's put them in the ground, or at least have them on back-up for times when a bucket is stolen

and I still want to thank Parker again for sticking #7 back in the ground this year...at GB...

MINI it is on Saturday the 15th.

We will make it flip doubles for our first one. If we have more than a few people, we will draw cards for ams and Pros. That way we will have teams that will be more fair. $5.00 per head.
$2.00 ace pot fund. Top three spots will pay (60%, 30%, 10%) if we get more than 10 teams. Only two spots(75%, 25%) will pay if we have less than 10 teams.

Lets DO THIS!!!!!

Lets see, I could take my kids to a Mav's game...but then they'ed be exposed to drinking and cursing on an even higher level, and forget sportsmanship...have you ever heard someone in the stands tell someone from an opposing team "nice shot" it doesn't happen. Its the same at most sporting events.

Have your kid play any sport at a public school (even middle school) and they will be exposed to much worse than I have ever seen on a disc golf course. I'm not ok'ing drug or alcohol abuse. But your going to see abuses wherever you go.

I used to play a lot of basketball and I tell you what...for a "legitimized" sport there sure was some crazy stuff going on at local courts. I don't ever see fights at disc golf courses. I've never had any one pull out a pistol at a DG course. I have seen these things on bball courts.

A lot of people are out there to cause problems...but "groups" like ours...courteous, positive, helpful people make a difference. I'm sure we could do more as a "group" and as a sport, but I would like to point out that our group is very inclusive and helpful. How many people have gotten a positive disc golf experience because they showed up on a Thursday afternoon?

Oh yeah...and you can support yourself on whatever you want to while putting...as long as its behind the line of play.

I understand Mikes point. I'm just saying that the whole world is this way. You have to find what you are willing to tolerate and go with it. I'm willing to tolerate BBD's bald head because he is an intelligent guy with good points. I'm willing to tolerate Mikes outbreaks because he is a fun competitor (also i tend to have the outbreak issue).

I tolerate a lot of other things because I enjoy the company of the people im around. (like tolerating doubles wthen i want to play singles ;) )

And tolerate is not a good word...it makes it sound like im better...thats not what im trying to say. I appreciate the people I play with...in fact when I bring my kids to play im usually the first one to slip up and cuss in front of them (again the outbreak issue).

WOW, WTF happened when i turned off my computer? The group is turning canibalistic.

**** it i want to play the mini but i can't make it sat. I could sunday, but im sure the rest of the group has church obligations (don't kid urself) :p

Who is responsible ffor the waste of baskets at Andrew Brown? I thinks thats the course in coppell with 1,234,124 water hazzards poorly placed and half the holes play into the softball fields and such... Seems like such a waste.

It would be really awsome to have a more challenging versatile course near the area.

Adam, sorry if you thought that I was attacking you personally, that was not my intent. Same for the rest of you that have responded. Unfortunately it brought on a personal attack of me. I have high expectations of myself which often times leads to frustration and anger, and at times behavior that is embarrassing and caused me to have to apologize to some of my fellow competitors. There is also no doubt that at some point a courtesy violation could have been called against me by my group. So, to the players out there that have had to suffer through my poor behavior, again, I’m sorry.

As for you Adam, as I recall, the last tournament round we played together was NEVER, so not sure where you’re coming from. If you equate anger at myself as poor sportsmanship then I guess we just have different definitions. But if there is another example of poor sportsmanship from me, I would like to hear about it. I will take it very seriously. I have played competitive sports for 40 years and don’t recall being accused of poor sportsmanship before.

Enough with that, back to my original point.
If my kids want to hang out at the Rosemeade rec center, great…Oak Creek Tennis Center, fine…Indian Creek Golf Course, super…Just about any other athletic or recreation facility, OK…but, if they want to hang out at the disc golf course, I have a concern. It’s not the game that causes concern and it’s not the disc golfer that would cause my concern, it’s the disc golf culture that I would prefer they stay away from. I myself enjoy much of the disc golf culture including competition, exercise and hangin with friends. Other parts, I choose not to participate in and if I have a choice, I would not want my kids to particpate in. But, I've never objected to anyone else partaking.

I think that most people would agree that there is a disc golf culture that differs from the main stream. The growth of disc golf will come from the main stream if it happens. And if that happens, the disc golf culture will be forced to fall in line closer to the main stream. I think that most disc golfers would be opposed to that. Sorry I was so blunt in my previous post, but this is the softer version that comes to the same conclusion. I think most of us are happy with how things are now at the disc golf course and wouldn’t necessarily like a change.

So, everyone take a deep breath. I did not intend to offend anyone and don’t misunderstand me, there are much worse places my kids could be hangin than at the DG course! For instance, they could be involved in band  j.k. redman.

Well said Mike, I suppose if my kids were 12-18 and hanging out at the disc golf course often I would have to wonder exactly what was going on. I would prefer they were not introduced to some aspects of the culture until later. And I would want to be the one making the introductions.

I have to chime in. Mike is expressing the same sentiments and concerns that I have when I take my two teenagers out to play. Those of you that made the Piney Woods know that I called a players meeting due to drinking during the tournament. There clearly is a rule against it and yet it was rampent in the B Pool. I know these are mostly casual players, but if they are causing problems during a tournament, how much worse is their drinking and smoking during a true casual round.

I want my boys to play disc golf, I love the sport, but I hesitate to take them because I know that if they play with this player or that one, that there will be pot smoking during the round. If I put them with another group there will be drinking. Generally I play with the boys, but if there is a flip double, I cannot always do so and then I certainly cannot organize the people they are playing with. Sooooooo..... if we want to grow this sport, in my opinion, there are times we as disc golfers should refrain.

Enough with that, back to my original point.

jeebus... I don't hit the boards for a little over 24 hours and all hades breaks loose

No need to comment on all the BS, I'll get to what I think is important - Murphy came up with some real solid plans for the club and some even more solid ideas. Rockwall mini on saturday, McKinney clearing on Sunday is a great start. I understand that not everyone wants to work. Some people are happy just playing the courses that others worked hard to put in the ground... I just hope that our club can reduce that part to a minority. Ron is keeping a list of those who helped put in the McKinney course and I think it would be great if our names were all accounted for.

See you losers on Saturday

Josh.... it was my plan to go help out with the McKinney course two weeks ago.... I did not do so because it slipped my mind.... my desire to help is solely because I was on a Texas Team with those guys and I like their personalities....

"Some people are happy just playing the courses that others worked hard to put in the ground..."

I find your infintile attempts to shame people into helping to be quite a turn off.... if I DO go help this Sunday, know this Josh Dan.... it is NOT because of your whinning, but because I have desired to help and see the new course since Ron first told me about the course....

I could also care less about getting my name on a list....

Adam,

I agree there are adults with a moral compass that play the game...... there are also others that could care less.

Now that I have said that, I think that my concerns were inappropriately expressed in this forum, because I am assuming most of this group would make a wise decision. However, the point is still valid.

Is it now appropriate for me to insult you? :p

Respect the Game, Respect the players and Respect the very idea that we get to play this wonderful sport

different beliefs and actions in our group is what I think makes us amazing...

Dec 15 2007, 10:42 PM
we had 13 show up, 12 played. I only know 4 of the 6 scores, but here are the ones I know:

59 - Nate/David Teague
60 - PT/Josh
63 - Jack/Troy Berry
66 - Charles Cox the 397th/manderson

Giles, Phil, jbitner, and Dempsey also played but they were on the other card and didn't place, so I dunno their scores :(

It was flippin cold and crazy windy but we still had a good turnout, considering. $24 ace pot carries on to the next one!

he meant the first of this new monthly series

Nate is planning to run one per month out there, when the local tournament scene allows. We plan to support that effort... I think there is a decent amount of interest, given how many showed up yesterday in the freezing cold and 30 mph winds. Nicely done, nate :)

We'll be back from Florida by Thursday, and I'm off through the weekend. If we do another Rockwall mini, I'm in. I dug the doubles format even if I kept PT from the win :D. Speaking of PIO, it will be up on titledisc.com either tonight or tomorrow. I'm still working on transitioning to the new color scheme, but there is a lot of recoding going on at the same time, even if it's invisible to the user. I should have the new tournament page ready tonight, and it will make adding new events go much faster. So... maybe tonight for the PIO entry page

Heading to Shreveport in the morning, then on to Pensacola on Sunday. We should get to play a couple of new courses this weekend, plus a few old favorites that we haven't seen since last year. See you about 1:00pm tomorrow, Mike Brown. Man I hope it doesn't rain :mad:because from what I've been able to find on the 'net, Lake Bistineau looks pretty sweet

happy holidays, gang. Anyone in for some Thursday or Friday golf @ Bear Creek?
