Its a couples get together on Nov 3rd thru the 5th. I believe there will be 8 couples coming up to enjoy the colors of the Ozarks. It will be fun to see some of the home boys and girls to join us in a have fun golfing adventure in the Canyon.
No charge in the golf but side bets will be going on. Remember most fun wins.

The tricky part here is the zig that Hwy 412 East takes about 2 miles east of I-540. You'll have to turn south at Business 71, go a half-mile, or so, and turn left to return to an Easterly direction. The bonus is that you have to slow down long enough to remember that this town is your last chance for legal, taxed, alcohol.
The next trick is the RIGHT HAND turn onto Hwy 21 South- just east of Marble- that will take you into Kingston.
Kingston is a cool little town. Awesome collection of vinyl LP's at great prices, old-fashioned general store, and PIE!!!
This link below will show you the square. Don't mess up here. You are coming into the square from the North- or the NW corner. You want to leave through the SE corner. All you really do is move forward (South) one block, then go left (East) one block. You're vehicle will still be on Hwy. 21 South, but will be pointing East.
Kingston Square (http://terraserver-usa.com/image.aspx?T=1&S=10&Z=15&X=2266&Y=19947&W=1&qs=%7c kingston%7car%7c)
Kingston to Mount Sherman- the town east of the Canyon's road. (http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.adp?do=prt&mo=ma&2si=gaz&un=m&go=1&2gi=0&1c=K ingston&1g=eSCZOhTz82MT%2bTN7ojtTIA%3d%3d&1l=gTXtZ x33jb8VPIdkkTbtow%3d%3d&2c=Mount%20Sherman&cl=EN&1 n=Madison%20County&2g=Qsfad%2bLkLsm5bMpGW6ta6w%3d% 3d&qq=1ADqpk24ofCrI5NFtDiT06EEMNCyUzb6SUBbg1yUxsDk 5zWr3jWE6gTx6LXmZHHzaunzEivYpcG7H8wyqaJSGHazVjL21Y 7njLbskgFmBdu0NaAsOpgMoee0fEFFcfBAsp2Lk6vyVNnlwxI% 252b5vHGkv4MGQRBio2GzjNfHher03UAe1lvFFIsPIRHRoPqz% 252fbf8FdvKgqvyDo0nkrFZliTDrmFr4bLmNUtxeDMIApLLBov tItdS7MBJA%253d%253d&1s=AR&2l=%2bhBgQ8%2fd7ToEoeO4 T6%2bfkA%3d%3d&ct=NA&1v=CITY&2n=Newton%20County&1y =US&2s=AR&2rc=A5XAX&2da=%2d1%2e000000&2v=CITY&did= 1163101491&2y=US&rsres=1&ms=36.013094|-93.387249|8|800|436|street)
You are getting ready to climb out of the Kings River drainage, "over the mountain", and down into Boxley Valley.
Boxley Valley is in the headwaters of the Buffalo River. Sacred ground to me.
You'll "bottom out" at a Y intersection. The Buffalo River will be straight ahead (and on your right side) as you turn LEFT to get off of Hwy 21 South- and onto Hwy 43 North. TURN LEFT OFF OF 21 ONTO 43!
Your next turn is just over 4 miles away. Enjoy this brief drive through Boxley Valley, take a 2 hour hike into Lost Valley, or try to mate with an Elk.
DON'T MISS THE HWY 74 EAST TURN- If you end up driving past the Buffalo Outdoor Center, in Ponca, you missed it.
As soon as you turn off of 43 North on to Hwy 74 East you'll cross the Buffalo River. You then begin the climb up to Steel Creek, and along the ridge that will take you to Horseshoe Canyon. You'll go through Low Gap- birthplace of Rob Florida, and then wind around a little bit before you come to the RIGHT hand turn that will take you into the Canyon.
RIGHT HAND TURN FROM THE WEST- LEFT FROM THE EAST
The Canyon's sign is on the left- Brown with white text- the turn is across from it- on the right.
That road will take you where you need to be...

Well they are both incredible courses and have some similarities and some differences.
The Horseshoe Canyon is Longer when you compare any 18 holes at Brooksville, but there are 27 holes at Brooksville Canyon therefore it is a longer course.
HC has a lot more elevation changes and the scenery is amazing just as is BC but just different. You got Palm Trees and Palmettos in BC and Cows, Hillsides, Humongous Trees (I don't know names of) at HC, as well as Horses, huge Boulders, it's the Ozarks.
Now, I know HC has another 18 hole course but it's just a little putt-putt course, and is a lot of fun but not as difficult as the extra nine at BC.
BC is a very challenging course and demands a lot of accuracy on long approach shots there is a hell of a lot of shule everywhere. HC demands a lot of physical and mental strength, you need to have the ability to hike 500yarda up hill and then throw a 500ft throw up hill into the wind and start hiking again, HC is a little more wide open but definitely more challenging in the manner of you have to find your own lines to the whole while you are blinded by the beauty and peacefulness of this amazing place. BC is tighter and has more par 3, but if of the tee you don't hit your lines you are very lucky to save 4 and good with a 5.
Over all I would suggest to Play both courses if you can, one is as great as the other, but strictly on the beauty of the surroundings and natures amazing creation I would go with Horseshoe Canyon, it's just amazing and it has real bathrooms and a place to sleep on the premises.
Boy I hope I didn't bore anyone.
Later All.
Oh, I'll be watching the game on my new HDTV. Should be sweet. :D

Horseshoe was fantastic again, as always. The crowd was a little calmer this year, which is fine with me. The weather Saturday and Sunday couldn't have been better and the food in our cabins was 5 star all the way. Big breakfast, big dinners and PIE.
Had several new comers this year and one learned the hard way after I offer him a flashlight two times, so he could go down the hill after dark. Well, lets just say he never went down without a light after that. :D
I hated to leave on Sunday and when I locked the gate on the way out, I just stood there and looked back, thinking, I can't wait to get back here again.
The canyon has added another feature, they now have a general store, that sells small stuff and wood but I found the wood much cheaper afer midnight. :D
If you have never been, then you need to fix that and go!
You will not regret it and you WILL try to convince others that they need to go. ;)
Looking forward to seeing all of you up there again next year. :D

Like I said way earlier, "nothing left to do but, :) :) :)
I think I was DONE at that point in the time period in the pic, but I honestly, am not sure what that time period was /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
I am sure 2nd, 3rd, 4th, Xwind had something to do with that, but, that is all good also.
The canyon is the stuff since ozarks went away. Things were all good down there also, since if you did not know how to get there, there was certainly no way to get there. KD, K and I completely enjoyed, the whole weekend. KUDOS! D and J, M and J, same thing, KUDOS :D. Just know when this time happens next year I may certainly have to hang w/some STL boys at some point. I feel not, as ok, about not, hanging w/the KC boys, these guys are totally friends, but I believe there is a border war coming from the 4 corners. Maybe not in the next, year but the next 5 coming up. Some of the KC boys have been to Ozark, that were down there. The picturesk, cabins, and hospitality will never be lost in our minds.
The chairs when watching the big screen were it  I have told my other half that it would be nice to have 12 of them in our basement, if I remember correctly, somebody told me that you needed foot rest, that would take it down to 6. Them chairs on the BS were choice :p :p all evening when K and I was there. I hope KDsand MC #2 is feeling better. K will find out in the next couple of days for sure.
I will definitely be back next year, I cannot see why not some sort of annual, what a total good time :D.
Peace to all,
twoputtok
Nov 14 2006, 09:53 AM
Ron, I can see the canyon over the next five years, with each state having their little weekend get a way.
Okla & Ark on one weekend, then Missouri, then Kansas, then Tex.
Each event brings in more first timers, such as yourself and then when you get back home, the word starts spreading, you just CAN'T not talk about it. It's too awsome.
Next year is already on my calendar.
I hope the canyon bouilds a few more cabins over the next couple of years. ;)

Nov 14 2006, 01:02 PM
I believe we could do it MO, ARK, and OK w/set amount all put in and winner take all. Total score. Then a side bet on skins. We have done that w/Peoria before and it seems to work out well. All in for $25-30 and winners take all. I can most likely guarentee you Karen would want to be there when the other wifes go down also. Just a hunch.

Let me know when you can be there and we can hook up. I am on a medical leave from work until February 5. It's stress related, so I'm finding it very therapeutic to play disc golf. I'll be out there quite a bit over the next few weeks (and maybe longer) as long as it's not raining too hard.

We need someone to e mail our website with the flyer for your Ice Bowl.
jeffash
Jan 18 2007, 11:10 PM
There isn't a flyer. We never have used one for this event.
We raised $1,000.00 in 2004, $2,000.00 in 2005, and $1,400.00 in 2006- all without a flyer. The weather hurt us last year or we might have topped $2,000.00.
The Horseshoe Canyon Ice Bowl annually raises more money per capita than any other Ice Bowl in the country.
A mention on the WAFDA website would be appreciated. Any support from the River Valley will be appreciated by the folks at the Christian Food Room in beautiful downtown Jasper.
Registration will be all day Friday and will end at 9:30am Saturday Morning. I'll start sending out the first cards as early as 9am. Rolling start is the only way to do it at Horseshoe Canyon.
There will be a breakfast served Saturday morning for $5.00
I think they are doing Chili for lunch ($5.00)
Fish's folks are cooking Saturday night. The meal, as always, will be free. All we ask is that you donate what your heart tells you to for that wonderful meal and all the proceeds for the dinner will go to the Christian Food Room.
Silent Auction, Mulligans, Poker, Disc Golf, and Pie. :)

Here are some preliminary figures/projections related to the 2007 Horseshoe Canyon Bowl.
All of 13 cabins, as well as the teepee, have been rented by disc golfers.
I’m not sure if the bunkhouse has been rented, or not.
It’s too early to get a “10 day” forecast of the weather. As long as we don’t get five inches of snow and ice on Friday the 23rd of February, we should have a good turnout.
1. This year’s Ice Bowl trophies were donated so I don’t have to spend the $100.00 or so dollars that I had planned on donating toward the cost of the trophies. I took that money that I didn’t spend and turned it into 10 Brainwaved ESP discs that I have now sold (or am selling) on eBay. These 10 auctions will result in a total donation of over $140.00. A very special thanks to the Bougher family from Owasso, Oklahoma for donating the trophies this year.
2. I am donating a box with a wide variety of brand new discs that will be used as prizes for the Amateur divisions. Pricing each disc at a very low retail price will still allow, at least, $200.00 of the Amateur entry fee to be used as a donation to the Christian Food Room.
3. As I have done the past two years, I will put an opening bid amount on each of the items that I donate to the Silent Auction. That means that the items I put up for auction are each guaranteed to generate a minimum donation. I have had to buy back a few of my own items before, but it’s for a good cause. The Silent Auction items I’m donating will guarantee a donation of, at least, $300.00.
4. I am going to use $5.00 of each players entry as a donation to the Christian Food Room. The balance of the entry fee will go toward paying the top 40% of each respective division. (60 players X $5.00 = $300.00)
5. I am going to try to get Horseshoe Canyon Ranch to donate all, or a portion of the $5.00 daily fee that they will collect on Saturday to the Christian Food Room.
The $5.00 daily fee that Horseshoe Canyon Ranch charges is not included in your Ice Bowl entry fee.
6. How can a free dinner make money? Come and see. The Saturday Night Dinner at the Canyon has generated significant donations to the Christian Food Room in the past. You will see, smell, and taste why. Fish’s parents always prepare an incredible feast and, as a result, people just want to throw money at them. Just like the next source of revenue I’m going to mention, the donations resulting from this free dinner can provide a big shot in the arm to the overall total. If a certain local club (NWADGA) would like to help out by sponsoring the cost of the food the dinner could generate a conservative $300.00 more
7. Mulligan$ Mulligan$ Mulligan$ Is there a course where they would come in handier? I don’t think so. I know I’m buying the Max- 18 Mulligans for $15.00
Every penny of the $1.00 Mulligan money goes to the Christian Food Room. The total can get staggering. 60 players might spend $600.00, or more.
*Mulligans will only be sold for your round on the big course. No Mulligans will be sold for, or used on, the short course.
I think we can hit a number this year that is just insane. I honestly feel that if the weather doesn’t become a factor that we will smash $2,000.00- by a lot.
The donation to the Christian Food Room resulting from this year’s Ice Bowl will ultimately come from the Northwest Arkansas Disc Golf Association.
If any of you that have read this would like to donate items worthy of using for the Amateur payout, or to sell at the Silent Auction, please PM, e-mail, or call me.
See ya’ soon!

Breaking News- The Springdale Enquirer is confirming rumors that DNA testing has conclusively determined that Kelly Ganzel is the father of Anna Nicole Smith's love child.
Coincidentaly, the Enquirer is reporting of a sudden increase in the cash coffers of the Northwest Arkansas Disc Golf Association enabling them to sponsor a portion of the food cost for the upcoming Saturday Night Dinner at the Canyon- part of the Horseshoe Canyon Ice Bowl.
Ganzel, a Board member of the NWADGA, has publicly stated that he is not interested in the hundreds of millions of dollars his biological duaghter stands to inherit, or that there is any connection between the potential benefits his duaghter's inheritance may bring him and this generous act of philanthropy coming from Ganzel and his tye-dyed frisbee throwing friends.
"My daughter is not old enough to make a choice in this matter, but I'm sure she'd agree that the Christian Food Room is a worthy cause." Ganzel said.
Jeff Ash, also rumored to have been one of Anna Nicole's suitors, has reportedly purchased a lifetime NWADGA membership in the name of Anna Nicole Smith, and has also agreed to cover any food costs that the club may not be able to meet.
Although the interest alone on that little baby's savings account would be enough to keep Ganzel in Ron Russell Z-Comets for eternity.

Arkansas Wedding ETIQUETTE
Livestock, usually, is a poor choice for a wedding gift.
Kissing the bride for more than 5 seconds may get you shot.
For the groom, at least, rent a tux. A leisure suit with a cummerbund and a clean bowling shirt can create a tacky appearance.
Though uncomfortable, say "yes" to socks and shoes for this special occasion.

DATING (Outside the Family)
Always offer to bait your date's hook, especially on the first date.
Be aggressive. Let her know you are interested "I've been wanting to go out with you since........
Establish with her parents what time she is expected back. Some will say 1000 PM; Others might say "Monday." If the latter is the answer, it is the man's responsibility to get her to school on time.

Just one round Saturday? Anything on Sunday?
Saturday will begin with one round on the big course.
There will then be a break for lunch.
We will then, probably (and depending on division), play the back 9 on the short course. Some divisions may want to play the whole short course.
Sunday is up to you.
I may go hiking into Indian Creek with the guys from South Carolina.
With all of the vehicles we will have, a "shuttle" hike becomes a possibility. :)

I just got back from dropping off the $2,250.00 from this years Ice Bowl with the folks at the Christian Food Room.
I watched them deposit the funds into their bank account in Jasper.
They wanted me to thank all of you who played in, or contributed to, the 2007 Ice Bowl. The donation has a huge impact on the 270 familes that they serve in Newton County.
You can register for the 2008 Ice Bowl at TitleDISC (http://titledisc.com/Events/2008HorshoeCanyon.php)

The latest issue of DGWN has a ranking of the 2007 Ice Bowls by the amount of money raised at each event.
The Horseshoe Canyon Ice Bowl was in 16th place out of the 200 Ice Bowls that were held in 2007.
Thanks to all of you who made it happen. :)
