Winter Park Disc Golf Club in Kewaunee WI will be hosting an Ace Race on Saturday October 14th. (Terry has run a few of these ace races before)

Winter Park Ace Race (http://webpages.charter.net/berrybunch/Winter%20Park%20Disc%20Golf_files/ace%20race.pdf)

You get two discs (prototypes that Discraft is judging for production), a hat, and a Supercolor mini for only $20. There will be an additional ace pool for cash. Grand prize package for the event is worth over $300.

I know it may be stretching it for some, Kewaunee is about 25 minutes straight east of Green Bay, right on Lake Michigan, about 2 hours north of Dretzka.

For those unfamiliar with the event, the object is to throw only for aces (or metal). We are running this as an intro to the course for those who have not played it yet. We will play short tees, shortened holes, and 7 temporary holes. The tournament itself will be very laid back and casual. It shouldn't take very long, there will be plenty of time for doubles or glow disc afterward too on the regular course. We're just going to hang out at the park all day long and throw some discs. We'll have grills, food, and beverage going all day.

Mid Oct is an absolutely perfect time to play Kewaunee. The views from on top of the hill will be full with the color of turning leaves across the river valley. And the course plays right along the Kewaunee River and the fisheries facility - right during the heart of the salmon run.

Please register prior to Oct 1 so we can order player packages. We're still looking for some portable baskets too, so let us know if you can help. Email the WPDGC with any questions.

If you plan on playing, please call and pregister before Oct 4th. Save yourself the agony. Day-of entries will be limited by the number of extra players packs that are available. We only plan on ordering 10-20 more than our number of pre-regsitered players as of Oct 4th.

Click the link above for a flyer you can mail in (may take a while to load), and if you miss Oct 4th preregistration deadline, send me an email or call and let me know your intentions (if we get a ton of late entries, we could have Discraft next day air some packages).

Registrations have been making there way in. Lot's of local area players, but not many from other areas. So, as an incentive, I'm willing to offer a discounted price to anyone who sends in two registrations. Two play for $35 (rather than $20 each). Bring a friend, kids, wife, etc.

Two discs, hat, and mini for $17.50.

Also, how about this - for an ace off the big hill ( picture (http://webpages.charter.net/berrybunch/Tee%20Pictures_files/image038.jpg) )
We will match and add to whatever the current ace pool is!

Too late to mail your registration and take advantage of the special.

5 spots left.

Call and I may be able to overnight some more. You can split a disc with someone else's players pack, but you still have to pay the $20 if you want to win the grand prize. Then I'll mail you a replacement package when I get more.

It was a good time despite having so much rain and cold leading up to it. We installed 3 of the remaining 7 holes of the 18 hole layout, so now the course will play 14 holes +1 to the permanent practice basket. Good comments, people loved the course, and the mixture of real tight woods and tricky elevation. We'll probably make it an annual event (it's easy to run because I'm not much of a TD).

Pics look GREAT! Wish I could've been there!
Will the 14 baskets stay in all winter?

Thanks Klem. Baskets come out on Nov 26th. Unfortunatley, the baskets must be removed to make way for winter skiing and tubing (even if the weather does not get cold enough or give us enough snow). Example, the hill was never opened at all last year for winter sports, and with our low snowfall, if they hadn't made any snow, we could have chucked discs all year (and sled down the hill on two holes).

But, if you know me, you know I am always thinking to bigger, better, and beyond (I LOVE THIS GAME!). My latest scheme is to have a winter layout that plays ENTIRELY through the woods off the ski hill. I wouldn't mind swapping the baskets around, but the effort would be large. I plan to pitch this idea to the county soon since basket removal is usually done the weekend after Thanksgiving. It wouldn't get done this year unless I had about 10 volunteers out there digging holes, lugging concrete, clearing tees and fairways, etc (which will be hard with all the Milwaukee construction). If I can find sponsors for the 15 sleeves, buckets, and concrete ($30 each rounded up to $500), it is a definite go for next year. Don't get your hopes up though. Since the county hasn't okayed an 18 hole course yet, an 18 hole winter course is looking pretty bleak.

Sounds like a good plan, Tim.
I wish my schedule allowed me to do more volunteer work!
Please keep me informed regarding your plans and the rest of the 18 holes. Email me sponsor info when you get it together; I'd be happy to scrape up $30 for your efforts.
