View Full Version : Wisconsin's USDGC Representative spot

I really hate to post 'over' Serg and the Parkside event but since it's on a handful of other threads I figured it should be ok.
I am making the official announcement about the WI State Representative spot for this year's USDGC.
First off, I want to say that almost no one showed any interest in receiving the spot in any given fashion. In past years I have just handed it to worthy people and I have also run competitive formats to select a rep. It seems that no matter which method I have used someone seems to take it personal or get upset. The good news is that I'm over all of that because quite simply - I can't please everyone.
So with that being said here is the determining factors for this year's spot in their order of importance.
1. The rep must be willing to pay the full $230 to me (because I've already paid to reserve the spot) by the deadline of September 15th, 2006.
2. The rep must be a current WI resident.
3. The rep cannot be a player that has already played at the USDGC in previous years.
4. The rep will be the WI Tour OPEN DIVISION, BEST 8 Points leader as of September 1st, 2006. If that person declines the exemption then it goes onto the next qualified person. As of this post, Shane Rose would be the candidate with Steve Held as the first runner up.
5. If no one from the Open division accepts this exemption it will move onto the Pro Women Division.
6. If no one from the Pro Women Division accepts this exemption it will move onto the Pro Masters Division.
7. If no one from the Pro Masters Division accepts this exemption it will start over again with the Open division with the same residency requirements but removing the repeat performance clause.
Enjoy

Is there a reason why an Amateur player couldn't take the exemption?

Is there a reason why an Amateur player couldn't take the exemption?
The main reason I didn't include the Amateurs in this was because the US Amateur Championships already exists.
However, I would be willing to make an addition to my original post and say that if no Open player took it on the 2nd run through then I would use the same criteria going down the Adv field.
Again, none of this is because I do or don't like Ams, I just believe it is more fair to offer it to Pro players first because the Pros are not allowed to play in the USADGC.
I'm open to ideas and suggestions for next year's process.

I think for next year Terry you should just give it to me and make everyone happy. :D

I would love to go and have not decided yet. But I wish there would of been some sort of news ealier in the year on what we are doing with the state spot. I just assumed Terry was going to see how a awesome event is run before next year world's. But with a $230 entry fee a plane ticket hotel room plus food and other expenses I could see this easly running $1000 just to go. And with less than a month to decide see where I am finacially. I just don't know who could afford it finacially on such short notice maybe Don Loper. I am honored to be mentioned but just a little earlier would have been nice. But this post might be all for not because Terry did say after Sept. 1st the points leader is the qualifing canadate. And there is Parkside to play yet

I think drinks are free during the round, water, juice etc... Correct if I'm wrong Terry. That a big savings there it all adds up.
Like I said I told Terry if for some odd chance nobody can go this year my wife and I will go. Time and funds not a problem.
I agree with Terry though Pro players should get first crack. If no Pro can go then go down to Adv field and so on.
Keep in mind it won't be cheap to go there and to play; so you have to keep it to the limits of people that would be actually 100% commented in going to this event like my wife and I are. Hint hint Terry. hehe maybe one day, maybe...
I would love to have a chance to play in this elite event. Not just to play just to go there and be around such awesome people.
Some day...

What a suck up :oHint hint hehe. Everyone would love a chance to go to this. I just didn't think it was a possibility since I didn't get it at Minnesota or Indiana. That is why I went to those events to qualify. I just remember some sort of fundraising at the events to qualify for the event the last couple of years, knowing not much was raised but something was at least annouced in the beginning of the season. Assuming only, as were the few I talked to, just thought Terry would be using it to go to the event, as I know closer states already decided there reps at least a month ago.

Hey Sleepy ...
If you get the nod to go to the USDGC, I'd hate to see you pass it up because of financial reasons. So, if you get the spot, I pledge $20 to help get you there .... and also a $20 bonus if you place in the top 20.
Now just go out and find some more sponsors ... and go represent!

Wow - what a surprise - it sounds like "I'm darned if I do and I'm darned if I don't". The last 3, 4, or 5 years I have made announcements regarding people showing interest in the USDGC spot. Almost NEVER has anyone said anything to me until after it's too late. Then they try to make ME look like the bad guy.
This year I made more than one announcement at the beginning of the year and as usual people didn't say anything. Maybe people should learn to listen at things like player's meetings? I love how so many people complain when I get up to speak at a player's meeting because they don't think they need to listen or they think I'm just babbling about random things but instead I'm giving them important information.
Well, I'm happy with my selection process for this year and if one person can't go I'll gladly watch it go through the runner up criteria I've laid out.

I never once complained Terry if you are referring that to me. I can only hope some day I can be allowed to go.
I have to either qualify or maybe one day become a state coordinator for that to happen.

Josh, you could always move to Arkansas.
Two of the qualifying events for our 2007 USDGC spot are actually being held before the 2006 USDGC even begins.
Go figure... :D

Let's just hope the 2007 USDGC doesn't change it's policies or proceedures regarding State's spots!
But you are right ... Josh could always just move to Arkansas :o

I'm sorry but I never heard you at any tourneys. And I usually catch all the players meetings at the tourneys but sometimes it is hard to hear expecially if you said it at the GMO. And as previous years went I wanted to go but did not think my game was good enough to go. Now in my third year of pro I think I have the experience to play smart enough to play ok down there. I know it is never going to be a win win for you Terry and I'm sure can be very frustrating. But that is how it going to be if your someones boss, The President or a state coordinator. That is what it takes to have a higher stature to have peers. Have tough skin and don't let criticism bother you because if you could make everyone happy you could bring world peace.
Has Arkansas ever been HAMMED watch what you ask for :D hehe

I will be printing and posting this thread at the NWO this weekend. If Sleepy is not planning on going I'll need to start planning for the next interested person.

Your always damned, no matter what you do with the invite. That's why I opted to go with the most controversial thing i could think of, when I was state coordinator. Jon, too!
Hey, I played a tournament in Wisconsin this year. If none of your pros want to go, Josh and I should have a disc dying competition for it! :D

After fighting and fighting with work they finally caved in and said I can go. (After going through HR dept they said no, my supervisor he said no, my manager he said no then finally the president of my company he said he did not see a promblem with it.) Don Loper was very generous and said he would pay for my entry. So after I talk to him and set up a few other things just to make sure I can go.

Well,
At least there is no shortage of taking advantage of Don Loper's good natured heart and spirit. I'm sure Loper was kind enough to offer up the gesture so that's his business and his decision but it certainly makes one wonder how things really work in this world.
I feel like I could go on and on here but I won't bother. I'll be looking forward to receiving the entry fee and once I do I'll let the USDGC staff know who is going on behalf of Wisconsin.

Just to let you know Terry This Is A Loan From Don I do have to pay him back. Maybe if I had some time to prepare I would of been able to fork over $230 in 3 weeks. But some people work real jobs and have to ask off way in advance for something like this. I make a set amount of money each month and I budget off of that. And when I get a $230 bill that is not a necessity but more of a luxury it hurts. And I am moving less than 2 weeks before the tourney. And that hurts but I have had 3 months to prepare for that imagine that I had time to prepare for it

what one man decides to do with 230 dollars is his decision and no one elses. since when did wisconsin disc golfers become salty, defensive, cry babies. everyone needs to relax and wish our wisco reps the best. rip it up sleepy. KC
