Great job on the website. Hopefully it only gets better with time, but for now it's much better than nothing!

Anyone know what the plan is for VPO this year? Pro/Am together? If not, which weekends? The traditional weekends are coming up fast!

i got some placeholders for those ideas up for ya.

toolen, if we can get a copy of the teesigns before they get placed, it would be awesome. i have super high end scanners/copiers available, no problem.

Looks great, Pat! Good job... :)

The 2006 ADGA Club Championship info would be valuable. Though I won't be in attendance for the event, I would like to renew my annual membership and save $5!

Thank you!

Come join the fun of playing night golf at Twin Park country club on September 30. Twin parks brought you the first ever P.D.G.A. sanctioned event held at night and has decided to make it an annual event. Play some golf and camp with family and friends at one of the best views in Dripping Springs. The fun starts the minute you get there and the golf starts at dust. Sunday is dedicated to the ladies with a round of golf for ALL the ladies. Let them build relationships and get their golf on, while us fellers play a washer tournament on the new washer pits. Fun for all so bring them kids and joins us in making memories. The Sleeper II Sept.30
Clubs! We are in the works to make this a event the clubs and families can come together to share a memorable experience with each other. The country club has help many clubs and events and now we are asking for sponsorship for the raffle and ctps that would uniquely represent your club or your business. Examples entries to club held events, club represented discs, or my favorite CASH! Please contact me or http://www.twinparkscountryclub.com/ to help.

Possibly , we may settle the age old question.....
Innova -vs- Discraft
This sunday I have accepted a little friendly side bet.
I will be @ the Vet for the MINI. I will be abandoning my beloved Innova plastic, and competing with some of the Competitions plastic. My Hero will be providing the plastic for this little challenge. If I am convinced that Discraft plays better than Innova, I will be wearing a " MY HERO WAS RIGHT " tee shirt @ this years VPO. Should be interesting! In all honesty, in the current format I usually shoot anywhere from -2 to -5 under par. If I can match or better -3, prepare to see me in a new t-shirt @ the VPO. If My Hero is wrong, his inferiority will be enough to satisfy me! We shall see come Sunday...... To keep it fair, we will play on the same card, just in case I tank, I will have no room to bash Discraft. Should be interesting!

Oct 20 2006, 12:36 PM
so if you shoot well are going to stop throwing inova???
that would suck..
the good news is i think i have a home for your inova stash.. :D
try to get me on that card.. k

Oct 20 2006, 12:41 PM
Well, we shall see!
It would be hard to put down that QUALITY plastic.
But, if it improves my game ( I dont think it will ) I would consider. Then I would have John to thank for that!

my_hero
Oct 20 2006, 01:32 PM
You are crazy. Do you really expect to shoot the same or better with plastic you've NEVER tried? Even some of our sports best need a small window for a learning curve. One mini will prove nothing.

Ever heard of "It's the indian not the arrow?" You need to graduate from "lil 'injun" school and become an Indian! :D

Oct 20 2006, 02:17 PM
I dont think it is going to be that difficult.........
As long as I have an opportunity to get a couple of practice throws in, it will be all gravy baby! Essentially , if I can identify some similarities between what I throw, and what I will be throwing sunday, it should be o-tay! If you are right, it will only make you look better! Like I said, we shall see! This is going to be fun.
Just for shiggles, what kind of stroke varience are you expecting?

Oct 20 2006, 02:24 PM
First of all..... you say -2 to -5 is the norm for you in the course's current set up (pretty much all long). Embellishing a little? :o Those would all be close to 1000 rated rounds, no?

I think with molds you've NEVER thrown....and discs that are brand new(not seasoned like your entire bag)..... That Even par would be Great!...for you.... :D :p

OOps, i forgot they moved a bunch o-stuff..... :o
BTW- majority of my plastic has about 2 to 3 rounds of play, so seasoned????? not so much.
If we are playing all longs ( including the new basket placements on 7 and 18) I will be happy with even! If the wind is anything like it was on Wednesday, I will be real happy with even!
THIS IS GOING TO BE FUN!
I like your gumption! John is a man whom stands behind his product. I hope you are right, @ worst it will make my game better!

oh yee of little faith.
I still cashed with a bunch o' forigen plastic.
I will say this, there were only 4 or 5 strokes that i would attribute to being unfamiliar with the plastic. Other than that there was not too much difference! In all actuallity , i probably would have shot about even to one down if I had my BELOVED innova plastic. Thanks My Hero, that was a lot of fun. The shirt is in the works!

i admire your optimism. mere mortals would recoil from predicting after the event that their favorite plasstic would turn them from about a 940 rated players into a 1000 rated player

in truth, the discraft plastic raised your rating for the day. based on the five reported results, you shot a 956 rated round, about 1.5 strokes better than the rating you established using other-than-QUALITY plastic.

if you had shot 54, your rating would have been 980. which leads me to wonder why you are so sure that yesterday, October 22, 2006, you would have shot 4 strokes better than your established rating. hmmmm...

Kind of a moot point, comparing my player rating to my performace on 1 round. You and I have the same rating, and you also know that you will shoot above your rating @ the Vet. As will I. Had I been using the plastic I throw regularly, I would have not made the same costly mistakes I did yesterday........ It is all irrelevant....

Oct 23 2006, 11:11 AM

Its the Indian NOT the arrow. I know my game, and my plastic. Plus, I do not know many players that are willing to forego their usual bag and play a round with the competitions plastic. I wish there was an instant Graemlin of somebody patting themselves on the back :D

P.S.- I am stepping off of my high horse for now! It was fun! AND, I am holding up my end of the bargain, be looking for my spiffy new shirt @ the VPO...

Oct 23 2006, 11:27 AM
It was fun. Lee has game and impressed me on more than one occassion with plastic he's never even picked up before.

We also decided that 20mph winds raised everyone's score 3-4 strokes, so with the windicap, Lee shot -1. Well enough to print a shirt that says something like "I cashed using an ALL DISCRAFT bag!" :D

We also decided, and claydog pointed it out, that a shirt saying "My_Hero was right" is not needed b/c My_Hero is always right! :D

Dec 27 2006, 10:32 AM
So guys.... As the nominated " Director of blah blah blah "
I was doing some brain storming and wanted to run something by you guys. In efforts to promote the amature attendance at the weekly mini's , I would like to propose a player development program. The player development program could work similar to ball golf concepts. Weekly tracking of scores to start, so that interested players could monitor their progress. Also , I was thinking that one Sunday a month, we could group together true amature players to play with a designated professional. The idea is that the pro could work with the am's to help their game along. Via the score doc's , we could watch ADGA players get better . And have the stats to prove it . It would take a commitment from several course pro's , but it could work. The idea could eventually yeild a higher am turnout and additional monies generated for the club. Also, the weekly stats could assist with selection for things like Texas Teams or Club challanges. Should one of the best disc golf courses in the metroplex yeild the best players ?? I think so. Could the club make that happen , I think so. Feedback?

Feedback?

sandalman
Dec 27 2006, 10:53 AM

best thing anybody can do!

discgolfdog
Dec 27 2006, 03:19 PM
The main thing is Jason is taking over the money unless somebody doesn't like him for that position and would like to run against him. It's a conflict if interest for Terry to keep the books and run the club (and just too much for one person). The position that nobody has really volunteered for is course maintenance. D.Q. was doing it but then I.Q. came along. Don and his helpers were responsible for getting the stone walls in place to curb erosion problems on those holes. (Way to go D.Q.) The position would work with Terry and Jason on moving baskets, getting new pins dug and general course issues.
Ginetta has the skeleton club charter with positions that folks can run for. Get with Jason, John, Terry, Skip or myself on Sunday for a breakdown.
Several ideas were kicked around on raising more money for the club, one of which was to bring back the WOLFPACK on Saturday mornings. We donated $2,000 one year for the VPO. That money hasn't been there the last few years, but we still tried to do the same type of payout for VPO. Therein lies the problem.

I don't want any of the folks involved to take this the wrong way, but I can understand why the Am turnout and involvement is low these days.

Regardless of any of the factors involved, I had planned on joining the ADGA when I moved back to Texas a few months ago, but I can't say the welcome was exactly warm. I know that the core group of ADGA folks that have been doing this for a long time is a pretty tight-knit bunch, but from the first mini I played, I felt a definite lack of inclusion. People have got to make newcomers feel welcome if you want them to keep coming back. Instead, what I have seen was the same foursomes playing on the same cards every time and whomever is left that people don't know gets put on their own card(s). I like Lee's idea of putting a group of Ams together with a Pro every so often. At the very least, you would get ams out there once a month and eventually you would get to know a few of our names  and maybe even find out that we are people that are worth playing a round with.

my_hero
Dec 27 2006, 04:49 PM
Clay and i used to run minis where every 4th - 5th week we would mix the cards. It was a lot of fun, and it was a way to meet some of the newcomers. I would also like to see this happen again.... :D

Dec 27 2006, 04:54 PM
thats a great idea. i would like less of the same cards also. but this is recreation for most of us, and we want to recreate with our best buds. so i can see why people make all those ^*&*&*%*$%'ing card requests :D gosh, you dont put the right people on the right cards these days and they get all grumpy and whine and moan the entire round.

as far as newcomers go, yeah, we should do better. i remember my first year here, 1998, and i showed up to minis that sometimes ran over 100 players! no matter, Kelly Hicks rememberd my name the second time i showed up. maybe he was gifted, cuz i cant remember names half that well.

another part of it is the grouping of everyone into basically Open field. i think thats one reason we dont have as large an Am field anymore - they dopnt wanna play with 2 other people, and they know they'll get stomped in open.

discgolfdog
Dec 27 2006, 04:56 PM
Mixing divisions (cards) is a good suggestion. We actually used to do that every so often. I think what you're talking about wasn't as much of a problem a few years ago mainly because of Wolf. It doesn't really matter if you're any good when there's a wolfpack. EVERYBODY plays on one card. That's when you get to know everyone's names and personalities. Everybody gets bagged on regardless of their ability.
Any other suggestions that anybody has to make new players feel more welcome would be appreciated. I know John and I have both taken new players onto #1s fairway after a mini this past year to give free pointers, and we're always happy to help newbies out in that way.
I think veteran players in our club are at times hesitant to offer advice unless asked, but are more than willing.

I have heard from many people complain in the last couple years about how clique-ish ADGA seems. I remember when I started, everyone knew my name. However, that is possibly because I'm a girl. I do think Wolf helped a bunch though. It lessens the pressure on a new player. I think it is also benefitial to players of all levels because it teaches not to be so uptight. So many people complain about distractions during play, whether it be someone standing in their line of sight while putting, or simply a couple people on the card talking quietly while about to drive. I think playing with a wolf pack would help someone overcome those obstacles and play better tournament golf. I know that players have purposefully done the above mentioned distractions, knowing that not many people actually call courtesey violations. It works in getting the opponent distracted and concentration thrown. If they played woolf enough, they would learn to play through that distraction. I know it would help my game. It would help my confidence. It would help ADGA. It would help new players. Hopefully, it would build ADGA. Hopefully, it would build a more friendly ADGA. I agree that ADGA has seemed way too clique-ish. Mixing cards occasionally would help also. Hopefully, I will be out there again by this spring.

Another thing I would like to do to raise money once we get the bins replentished is to sell discs after the mini to casual players. Larry Ladd was a master at that. He would stay for 1 or 2 hours after the mini on nice days and get all kinds of sales. We have a buttload of old t-shirts from past tournaments that we just give away at events. Those items need to be out with the plastic each week being sold at a discount. Like I said before, a number of ideas are being kicked around. I would really like to get Wolf going within the next month though. Somebody remind me and we'll get some input next Sunday.

Pat, u r a phunny guy.

I am concerned that club plastic is going to be THE issue.
It is unfortunate that Innova will not be an option for a while , but this is a great opportunity to get discraft out on the courses of the metroplex.

Secondly, as I mentioned earlier, a player development program could enhance the current state of the ADGA. I am certain that many " new " golfers would enjoy watching their progress. As well as recieving instruction from players with more experience than themselves. It is a win - win situation. Plus the development program could actually help determine who plays the best consistant golf @ the course. BRAGGING RIGHTS N.E. BODY?

From a newbie’s perspective I like the idea of playing with the pros and having a player development oriented approach. As a ball golfer getting back into disc golf this is something that is sorely lacking.

So having a club geared towards developing players is a great idea.

Yes. Very nice shooting there "Gimper". That is some control shooting.

I will say that is the best i have done out there with Birdies on 4,5,9,10,11,15,18, and a boge on 3 ( first hole ). Plus the birdies were not all gimmies.

And then there is the Vet. Brought me back to my mere existance. Got up to +9 and made 3 Birdies to be at +6. That makes me EVEN for the day and I'll take it. OH yeah, I was on the "Heckler Card", Giggler , Mike G , VJ and myself. Alot of bull*@#* talking there I tell ya.

But I had fun.

Kinter won Vet's. Nolan wasn't at the Z. The Z went Cfles -4, Colin/Miles -1, Hero Even, everyone else over par. :D

Today is Tuesday June 5, 2007. It is going to be a sunny day today with no rain in the forecast. Tuesday night mini tonight in Crowley. I have 12's basket fixed so we will play all 20 holes.
$12.00 for pros
$8.00 for ams

If David Kinter makes it out tonight, we will have 2 birthday boys playing in the mini.

arlingtondiscgolf.com is up!!! (http://www.arlingtondiscgolf.com)

now, thats massive amounts to be done, but the start has been made.

ideas for content and features/functionalities are most welcome... we can program just about anything you can think of, so lets create something great :)

How about a club membership enrollment/renewal form? A simple pdf file would probably work best for the web site.

No response to this post and still no membership enrollment form available on the ADGA web site.

Hey Jerry, I just saw your post. I'm just now seeing we have this site up again and if you have any contribution to offer let us know. I'll say something about getting a form printed.
