Hey there everyone!

The PDGA pre-registration list (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=5632) has finally been updated! I planned to keep it updated while helping out at the Am Worlds but the internet connection at that hotel absolutely sucked.

Anyway - you can see that we went from 15 players to over 50 in just a matter of one update! We have 2 courses and to ensure that things run smoothly, there will only be 144 total spots for the day.

Did I mention that we have over $500 added to the pro purses? That number will likely only go up. Green Mountain Beverage (http://www.gmbeverage.com/) (the makers of Woodchuck Draft Cider) are on board with some sponsorship and we're working out the details right now.

The Great Lakes Disc Golf Club is hosting a raffle with all proceeds going towards the new courses in Milwaukee County. Please support that effort. The sooner we raise the money, the sooner we'll have new Worlds Courses installed.

GET SIGNED UP NOW (http://www.takeflighttoday.com/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=108) because there will be a $10 day of hassle fee! Don't delay because with online registration the last few spots will disappear very quickly.

In just a few days we went from over 50 participants to now having 81! I'm planning to get at least a stack of them at Dretzka leagues tonight so I'd stop delaying if you are looking to get in.

Here is the Take Flight Today (http://www.takeflighttoday.com/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=108) link so that you may secure your spot.

There will be a few discs and shirts in the raffle that are very unique! Plus, all proceeds go towards more Milwaukee County Disc Golf Courses!

Since my event is this weekend I figured I'd post another update to keep things fresh on the board.

I took about 12 to 15 more registrations TONIGHT at league. Things are moving along nicely. I also got a COURSE MAP from Mark the Shark Peterson and I hope to have that online tomorrow sometime. Of course, I'll post it here.

I have been getting TONS of calls, e-mails, and whatever else. Please check out the website to get registered. Lots of people looking to pay day of or get the fee waived but if I do it for one, I would have to do it for everyone and that's not really fair.

Take Flight Today (http://www.takeflighttoday.com/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=108) is the place to be. As Jay Reading would say..."Get you some"

Do you have enough baskets lined up for the event?

Looks like the weather is going to be grrrrrrrreat!

It wouldn't hurt to bring out any PDGA approved baskets the morning of the event.

Mark the Shark is planning on setting the course up around 7 or so and could probably use any helping hands that are available. Just for consistency I'd love to have mainly DGA related products. In order of preference I'd love, DGA Mach III, DGA Mach V, Discraft Chainstar, DGA Mach II, DB-II, Innova Discatcher (double chain), Innova Discatcher (single chain).

If my count is right I think I have baskets from:

6 - Me
1 - Pat Hamill
1 - Kurt Raff
1 - Mike Batka
1 - Johnny Rumble
1 - Jeff Smart
Handful - Mark Peterson

Well,

Officially over 100 right now and still growing. There are a few people that said their checks should be arriving today plus there are more that plan to pay me at league tonight. Illinois players have woken up a little bit and I'm seeing theirs trickle in also.

I also have a handful of others that want to track me down in person. With gas at $3.29 / gallon I think it would just be cheaper and easier to pay the extra amount online but if people want to hunt me down, I'm fine with that too.

I am trying to get the map scanned and published online but it's very dark and tough to read. The latest update about the course is that Mark Peterson is NOT planning to put up the baskets on Friday due to possible theft. There are going to be 18 extra baskets floating around (many close to roads) so we don't want to have any stolen. I had a temp basket stolen while running the FVO a few years ago and that wasn't fun.

The course however WILL BE FLAGGED by Friday. We'll have the tees and the pins marked with flags so you can check things out. I was hoping to host the doubles out there but it doesn't seems as if that will work.

The regular course will host the doubles and yes...it's pretty much in the exact locations you will see this weekend. There might be 2 or 3 holes that change up before then but not too many. Right now, I'm planning on having everyone play the SHORT/REGULAR tees for ALL divisions both rounds.

I'll catch you back here with more updates later. ONLINE REGISTRATION (http://www.takeflighttoday.com/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=108) is the only way to secure your spot today!

TEMP COURSE MAP (http://www.takeflighttoday.com/gmo_tempCourse.pdf) available. PLEASE keep in mind that this is a sketch done from a badly scanned photo copy and it's the best I could get up here today. It is NOT to perfect scale but it should give you a pretty darn good idea of what's going on! The quality might get updated a little later!

PS - The discs just arrived minutes ago and they are sweet.

.

I'm sure I'll catch ALOT of s#!t for this post, but I gotta keep it REAL.

On behalf of ALL the local players I've talked to, we're SORRY that the permanent course is not in the longer/orignal placements(Holes;1,3,6,8,12,15,17), and that the LONG tees won't be used for the Open divisons. We have a nice challenging course at Dretzka, and I'm sure open players from out of town would like to be challenged instead of playing duce or die golf, but thats just my ( and everyone I've talked to) opinion. :oIn years past this Tournament had a raffle skins match with the top 4 open players, this was always a fun time for the players and a good showcaseing of the park and local talent. With the changing of TD this is not happening this year, again SORRY. :( But I guess, how's the TD going to make MONEY off a raffle/skins match?? /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I understand that theres 2 courses of ALL divisons, but it's just stupid that we have Long Tees and longer Pin placements, if there not going to be used in the ONLY Tournament at Dretzka Park! :mad:Hopefully this isn't the layout for Am Worlds , that would just be CRAZY!! But then again this is our state coordinator I'm talking about.
Don't get me wrong, Terry's done WAY more for the sport than I'll ever do!!! It'd just be nice to see someone else step up and do some things a little differently, but that's just my /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif opinion.

Yeah Zac,

You just keep doing that - keep it real. By the way ... if you are interested in not playing I will gladly refund your money back. You just say the word.

If that's not the case ... read on...I'm curious how many player's you surveyed? Were they all locals that might be extremely biased towards one layout versus another? Did you talk with any people outside of the open division? Maybe anyone with a less than 300 foot drive? Was your survey truly a random sampling?

If you have all of these answers why aren't YOU running the event? Or maybe some of these trusted surveyed buddies of yours? Oh wait, no one else really wants to do that kind of work huh? But there you are leading the charge to openly complain and bash me on the PDGA discussion board. The very board where I posted about having added cash for this very event? Yet, you claim I'm not doing certain things because I am worried about a financial loss or gain.

Uncle Joe ran his event for many years and got frustrated and burned out on the idea because he got so many complaints and far too many golfers are not appreciative. Kurt said that tournament directing was way too much for him and he failed miserably (which he admits to) and so I stepped up to make sure there is a Milwaukee event on the Wisconsin Tour and you (possibly along with others) have nothing to do but complain. Thanks.

Both of those guys had their own flavor of how they wanted to run their events. Sure, there have been long tees, skins raffles, and countless other things but does that mean that I should just do the exact same thing? Should I screw up the payout? Should I keep us there until 8 pm at night? Should I not offer a novice division because it hasn't been done in the past? Wow, I guess I'm just a horrible TD and I need someone so experienced like yourself to just pull my strings.

So with all of this being said...I'll take the complaining and turn that into a perceived 'suggestion' (even though you wouldn't dare be that polite) and that suggestion will be taken into consideration for next year's event.

Ter

Well I guess I will leave my titan portable at home since I dont believe its on the approved basket list yet or if it will be.

Long tees or short tees it should still be a fun time. Personally with the current layout I would prefer long tees on the perm. course and it looks like thats the direction its going now? If all divisions were playing one course on sat I could see more of the need to keep it all the same tees.

Do it how you gotta do it and I will still come out and play and have fun!

Well,

I hemmed and hawed about the various remarks and formats, complaints and suggestions and when it is all said and done, I guess I'm going to do the FAIR thing and stick with what was advertised all along.

We are in fact playing the short / regular tees on Dretzka's original course. It was posted that way and it's going to remain that way. Refunds are available up until 8PM tomorrow night if it's really a problem.

A few other tidbits -
--We are probably paying about 40 to 50% in the open division
--As advertised, doubles will be in merch payout
--Player's packs will include at least a disc and some other stuff for Am players
--Registration is quickly filling. ONLINE payment is the best way to secure your spot

Mark - if you werent on board there would be cheers from here to Japan!! J/K :)

I find it funny that those who make comments about events haven't stepped up to run their own. But they sure will point out the short comings of those who endure the time and effort involved with running an event or league.

You think its broke - then quit complaining about it and FIX IT! For 3 years people bitched about what was going on out at Tendick (nothing seemed to be getting done) which was not the case - the course needed to be at a level that people would consider driving to the course to play it. So what if it didnt have teepads - why have teepads when the course isnt good. Andrews got burned out, just like Uncle Joe & many others do.

You think you have all the answers - then you have two choices quit #$*&$! and show people the way or JUST SHUT UP and don't play anymore.

Go play checkers or something else!

41 pros and masters 103 amateurs that is why we are not playing pro tees. 72 to a course that means there will amateurs playing on both courses at the same time. What I do not understand is why not cap each course to 72 for pros and 72 for amateurs? The tourney is being run totally different than any Milwaukee PDGA event. I guess the difference between Kurt (who ran it to have fun for everyone) running the tournament to Terry is you can't make money from pros but you can from other divisions. I understand Terry has a lot on his table and is also trying to make a living on this sport. But I am trying to explain why I think we are not playing pro tees. I am dissappointed but the only way we can complain is to run it ourselves which I know myself is not ready to do.

Running an event is a cakewalk, First, you have to get a bunch of unpaid volunteers that are willing to sacrifice their free time night after night to help. Easy enough, right?
Second, as a td, all you have to get is scorecards, flyers, take registration(often that day) assign everyone a hole, make sure the course looks nice and playable, provide water, sometimes food at lunch, secure sponsors, sometimes secure vendors, provide players packages to AM’s, provide CTP’s to everyone, do payout at the end of the event, fill envelopes with funny money or cash, then deal with everyone trying to redeem that money. And that is just the tip of the ice berg!

Its no wonder those TD’s are driving Ferrari’s

I am not trying to step on toes, but seriously, I do not think many people understand how much work goes into events like this. I do not run events, but I do a lot of work at events that Terry and Ryan Hornickal run. Do I get paid, no. Do I want to be paid, no. I want to promote the sport and help it grow. If I can help someone make a living out of disc golf, sweet, I have my own full time job I do 45 hours a week, I have no interest in doing this full time, just as a helper. And even as a helper, it sucks when you hear complaining from everyone about things that should not matter.

So, with that, I hope everyone has a good time tomorrow and shoots well!

Good Luck!

Sleepy,

Next time you start guessing as to why something is or isn't done maybe you should get your facts straight by starting with the guy in charge. I like how you are GUESSING as to why we are doing this or why we are doing that. Wow, you must know about as much as Zac so I wonder why YOU just aren't running the event.

If you don't want to show up, play, or have anything to do with this event, I'm ok with that. I'll even offer that to Zac as well. The refund option is available until 8AM. Seriously - no hard feelings. I openly welcome you getting your money back so you can play another course and complain elsewhere guys.

Come on guys... Terry is doing a lot for the sport in the state and beyond. I've never been to an event he's run that hasn't been run well, the payout hasn't been good, and people haven't had fun. Remember that event earlier in the year in Mischicot??? Yeah, that wouldn't have happened had Terry not made it possible. He's trying new things... he's putting in courses... he's running great events. What more can you ask for?? Just b/c your not playing from the long tees in one event DOES NOT warrent such criticism. You are all great players and great guys... lets try and make WI disc golf as best as possible and start helping instead of being critics. That being said... hope everyone has a great time today and shoots lights out. Good luck!

Terry I was just stating why I think it is being run the way it is. I wasn't stating facts just what I think and that is what this board is for. As you can see at the end of my comment I said if you want to complain someone should step up and run a tourney themselves and I also I am not ready to do so. I know how much you put into this sport and you know I respect you for that, I can be disappointed by being set in my ways on the old format but changes are done and I had a great time and the event was probably the smoothest ever ran a Milwaukee and we all know Milwaukee is a hard event to run. So no disrespect, maybe I worded it wrong before.

Thanks man!! Well after my first round I wouldn't of thought I would be winning the event but I was in a positive attitude going into my 2nd round.

The temp course I shot 54 (even) which was average. I started the second round on the 3rd card. Hit 9 dueces and 9 pars no bogeys my 2nd round and won by 1 stroke.

I had a great time and Terry and his staff put on a excellent event.

I'm at the Pro Worlds in Augusta, Georgia and having a great time.

I don't have much time or energy to reflect on the event but overall...I'm pretty happy with things. 168 golfers in a single day is a ton. I know that's just a small part of my horrible play but that's ok with me.

Results (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=5632&year=2006&incl udeRatings=1#Open) are right here so enjoy. They are VERY unofficial because I don't think they currently take into account the 2 courses and the 2 pools and bla bla bla. Maybe I'll run into Chuck Kennedy later tonight and ask about fixing that stuff. For now, I just grabbed them from the sheet and uploaded them without a ton of double checking for things like PDGA numbers. I'll get the official results in sometime soon.

Hey there everyone.

With the events and everything else on my plate my mental game continued to struggle during the first 2 rounds of worlds. Finally I quit embarrassing myself but by then it was way too late.

Anyway, I spoke to Chuck at Worlds and then figured out how to adjust for the 2 pools playing 2 different sets of tees at the GMO. With that being said, the scores and ratings should now correctly reflect what was shot at the event. Of course these are still all unofficial round ratings that need to go through the PDGA and everything else but it's a good start for ya.

Enjoy.
