The course needs tee signs in a VERY bad way. How would you like to be a guest on our course? You'd be a lost guest!

Last i remember Jason has the tee sign maps on his PC. Can we get them printed out? I'll gladly put them in their right place once i have them.

Should be a simple thing to do.....kind of like have a website.

i second the need for tee signs. all we need is the files from whoever has them.. or heck for that matter, just new printouts... we can scan them first, amke any mods we need, then print em and get them on the course. it has been years since they were refreshed.

on the website side, willy is working on a site, but it uses an Access database and some other stuff that is ok for small sites, but not really anything i can help with. i he wants to do the site, i say fine, thats great, and someone with those skills can help. if he doesnt, then i could easily convert the keohana site into a Vets site in a matter of a week or two... and we could have score tracking, cards, membership lists, whatever nice features we want. i'd be happy to help with it, but i am not gonna get in willy's way if he is onto something.

Yes, the course needs new signs along with new decor at the kiosk. When you go to put the new signs up beware a lot of those bolts holding the signs on are rusted and a pain to remove.
I don't get to mini's much but I will print some new pictures and such to put at the kiosk. I also gave Jason the ADGA logo that Arlis made, I may have a copy of it somewhere.

The city will give you a new map of the course to put up, It fades pretty fast, but looks good for awhile.
Let me know if I can help.

Is there any way that we could work a manatee into the logo? That would be dreamy. :D

Jul 19 2006, 11:37 PM
Well guys, I can't find the logo.Another one can be made if Jason and Ginetta don't have it.
Pat, there is one lady( Donna I think) at the Arlington Parks and Rec Center that handles the map,she was more then willing to help out.Sorry said I would help and look at me now  So is there a new website for us??

sandalman

i was gonna do one, but it sounds like willy is already on it. i'd be happy to do it and could add some database driven features like my round scoring and tracking. i am not sure what features willy has planned, but he's a good programmer, so hopefully it will be sweet

What about laminating the tee signs in plastic so if it ever rains the maps won't bleed to death?

my_hero
Jul 25 2006, 03:41 PM
If you look close enough, you'll see that they are laminated. The sun faded all of the red ink. The blue lines/distances/elevation marks are still there.

They are just old. Need new ones badly. Might have to persuade Jason with some MANaTEETEE in order to get the job done. :D :p

sandalman

a UVproff laminate, or plastic plate with UV protection will keep them from fading

Time for a new saying:

New tee signs have been posted an 15 of the holes. 4 still need to be done as I didn't bring open ended wrenches. The sockets I had wouldn't work.

No wonder it took a while for these to be done. What a way to spend a couple of hours......

So i had the pleasure of meeting Jeannie (http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/showprofile.php?Cat=0&User=5415&page=11&what=showm embers) at Bear Creek last night. She had contacted me before the July 4th weekend about an upcoming trip to Arlington, from Warwick, NY. She asked what are the must play courses in the metroplex. I gave her my opinion and listed Vet, ZB, Crowley and Cedar Hill.

Her first DG adventure was at the Vet. She said she LOVED the rugged Texas style golf but was a little disappointed in our signage. Can you blame her?

She played 1-3, but missed hole 4, which is easy to do if you don't know the course. She played 5-7 and eventually found 8-10. After 10 she walked down the sidewalk and saw what she thought was #11, once down near the basket she realized it was 16. So, she went back to the sidewalk and played 11. Not sure how she missed seeing 12's tee but she ended up on 14's tee and was able to navigate 14-18. All in all she missed 3 holes and wasted quite a bit of time looking for the next tee.

We really need to put new tee signs up. In the meantime we probably should do what i've seen done at a few courses; paint the spoke on top of the basket and the spoke on the cage that points in the direction of the next tee. She would not have missed holes 4, 12, & 13 if this were done. There's not much we can do about people seeing and playing 16 while on the way to hole 11. :D

Good post, John. It is definitely frustrating to visit a new course and not be able to locate the next tee (or path to the next tee). Painted spokes, small hanging arrows beneath the basket pan, directional signage near trailheads, etc.....these are simple fixes which greatly benefit players unfamiliar with a course.

hole 7"s basket has an arrow pointing down the path to 8, but i dont think anyone has ever noticed it.

i have wanted the vet to invest in new teesigns since i started playing. i think it makes the course way more professional like and what not. but we have been buying baskets for some reason instead of tee signs

i've got the funds from the Own The Hole than can be used for any sign damage. i've also got the old tee sign printouts, and need to scan them in and update. i can get the scan/update part done, but will need a lot of help with the sign cases on the course.

In the mid 90's the ADGA generated a lot of money by selling tee sign sponsorship packages to businesses and golfers/families. I'm not talking about the tournament tee sign sponsorship that we currently do, i'm talking about the permanent tee signs at Veteran's Park.

Back then we asked $250 per hole and we had no problem selling them. With today's economy/gas prices we might not be able to ask for $250 every year, but we could ask for say $200 for 2 years. I know i would gladly give the club $200 to have Hole #?? for 2 years!! From a business stand point, that is dirt cheap! Advertising your business for 24 months for $200?!?!!?! Hello!

Just something for you to chew on while you look at mine and Gotchers random post pics. :D

The signs that John Houck does are very good (see Rockwall), and seem to be very durable. Are we interested as a club in investing in this types of signage or do we want to go a cheaper route?

Jul 11 2008, 08:43 AM
You need to contact Levi Tucker. He can have really nice signs made for a lot cheaper.

gotcha
Jul 11 2008, 10:32 AM
Doesn't the present tee signs at the Vet already have sponsors at the bottom? We used to raise $4,500 a year by selling the tee sign sponsorships at $250 per hole. That was always a nice chunk of change to throw toward the VPO. We have done a similar thing at Moraine State Park near Pittsburgh.....that's one way we were able to offer nearly $5k added cash for our tournament this year.

Even if the ADGA priced the tee sign sponsorships for less (similar to what Hero suggested above), something is better than nothing......don't pass on the opportunity to generate revevue via signage. Many parks won't allow it.....fortunately, Veterans does.
