Now this post will cover 07.Looks like we have State Champs(They're in,B Tier Little Rock )Hot Springs (They're in,One Day C Tier.Looks like April or May of 07)Alma Greens definately in(June 07, 2 Day B Tier as well in 07)HOTB (They're in,2 Day B Tier 07)Clarksville,(One day C Tier)Northshore? Horseshoe?NOTE: There will be a fundraiser disc for State Champs.Look for this soon.Every one of our B Tiers should pull 120 to 150 players if we do it right.($4,000 to $6,000 events) C Tiers ($1,500 to $2,500)We get these numbers we'll be kickin.(This shouldn't be hard to do) Ganzel will be looking into a couple states who do a points chase for ideas on how to do this.Looks like there will be a final event to determine who ultimately goes.(1 Day)IF! we do this right the winner will probably go all expenses paid.THAT WOULD BE SWEET.Looking forward to getting it started (Horseshoe November?)Let me know.

All expense paid vacation to play in the best disc golf tournament in the world.... dreams are coming true.
maybe in the next ten years years we can send a junior to worlds...and bring in a touring pro for a seminar...and give free plastic to all the children in the world. I'll go ahead and set that bar a little higher, and we'll just see what happens! ;)

AR State Champs. is on the SN schedule. May 19-20. Are they talking about PDGA sanctioning?
3902
Feb 03 2007, 01:56 AM
Oh well let me tell you about that one.
John K does have it on the SN schedule. He told me in Oct 06 he'd also put it on the PDGA schedule. We were to talk about CFR's,Sponsorship etc etc etc.
Now ?
After weeks of tryin to contact him(Impossable if you've ever tried)He FINALLY contacts me today.
He said he's not sure about Dual Sanctioning.Has to discuss it with the club.Been kinda outta touch with the whole DG thing for a couple months(But his posts on SN are there almost daily)
I get a funny feeling that State Champs will not only be SN alone,But that i'll pull it out of the qualifyer.
NOW!!!
Some people were whining about moving States around.Well yeah little Rock has had it for over 20 years.
Of course these are the same people who I put up in my house,Paid an unreal payout too,Actually helped put together tournaments for them to play .And they say How Dare You!(As they complain to the whiner gallery about that rotten no good Pitch)Wussies!
How dare you try and improve tournament play in our state,
Who do you think you are tellin us you MIGHT have a skins match and then don't(Forget the massive payout for all the divisions)
For all of those whining about the way I do things STAY HOME.I'm sick of all your weak arse crying and wimpy excuses.
If AR State Champs sucks this year don't blame it on me,OH? I mean if you actually thought you'd even go.Who would want to travel to Little Rock for less than a Blowout purse.
If they screw the pooch on this one,Watch for 2008.
"YEAH" I'm a little fired up.
Now take that one ,Make a couple calls and Dog the SC some more.
To the ones who support my work,Thank you very much.I know who you are.And couldn't have done it without some new insight and ideas from you all.(And yeah THE grouch even helped.)This area has improved so much in the last couple years.I only hope looking back on my SC term I can say it was worth it.
My Headstone will read,

So are you gonna replace this tourney with another (mayor's invitational, blowout, etc.). Also what goes into calling a tourney State Championships? Is it just deciding that is what you'll call it? Does anyone know why the rest of AR is unwilling to host PDGA events. It seems that a lot of SN events are dual sanctioned now. Now that I think about it there is only the one tourny is the whole rest of the state that isn't part of either WAFDA or NWADGA. Is Hot Springs a lock? Are they gonna do the SN thing too?

Feb 03 2007, 01:16 PM
Hot Springs is NOT SN.Ihave been talking to the folks there. They are actually considering joining WAFDA.(They are in western arkansas.)
See we'll just have liasons to the county like we do BG,ALMA,TILLES and CLARKSVILLE.
The April 28th tourney there will be a C Tier.I'm helping in the running of it as well.WHEW!
OK now I just got off the phone with a Jason Bristow out of Little Rock(I mean i'm half way thru this post and he called)
He's gonna be the TD for State Champs. We're getting the thing in order. He's not sure about the USDGC deal because he's just takin it on.He'll talk to the club about the tournament being a part of the series.See getting the 5% put into the pot will be the issue.
I told him including the money will be enough to pull our guys into the tournament. And it's not too late to get into the top 8 for the guys wanting to get involved from there.
This is good news. Looks like we're gonna have a dual sanctioned State Champs and it's gonna be what it should be.
SMOKIN!!! ;)
More on this soon.ADDED CASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh yeah Colin,Too funny.I could just hear you saying that.

Arkansas State Championships May 19th & 20th WILL NOT be a PDGA sanctioned event BUT WILL remain on the USDGC spot chase.
We have a new TD for the event.Jason Bristow. He has agreed to donate the 5% to the series.

I'm thinkin about making the final 18 playoff at Russellville on July 14th.
It's just a couple miles further than Clarksville AND we could combine it with a 1st Annual for Russellville as well.
The Top 8 could use one of the rounds for the playoff spot(But they will all be using the same round)Not a choice of one or the other.
I know I said the top 8 would be playing this at no charge so i'll do this.
The top 8 entries will be paid for and they will be able to collect on this tourney as well as the spot.
Whatcha think about that one ?
I will only do this if we accept Russellville as the place for the final 8 playoff.

Only 1 this way.
In order to get there another you have tournaments to place in.
Go to the USDGC website.
You'll see the other routes.
But they don't give you cash to go with.
What's funny here is we have a dozen guys who can make this AND i'd offered to pay an entry to another event making the winnings even bigger and no response.
Some of the folks won't even support AR tournaments.
They book every time one comes around.
What a shame.
Somebody is gonna go to USDGC and love this deal.
I hope the next years spot has the same oppurtunity.
Want it?

Pitch is swamped with work and called to ask me to post this...
the Russellville Park Dept. is wanting a tourney in July, his thought is to throw a non-sanctioned grand opening tournament with affordable entries, maybe $30 open, $20 adv., $10 Int., Rec, Jr, Ladies... He's thinking to do it on Sat. July 14th, 2 rounds of 18 with the 2nd round being the Finals for the USDGC spot instead of Clarksville....if you're in the finals you wouldn't have to pay the reg fee for the tourney to compete as a USDGC series finalist, however, by paying to register in the tourney the prizes could be better being that you'd be eligible for the tourney payout/prizes.

So when ya movin to LR Tom? Sounds like that is the only area that matters anymore. I think you would pull more from up here if it were PDGA. I mean, look at the turnout from up here at the state champs. I don't have anything against SN, I would just prefer a PDGA sanctioned event. I know that a lot of people will be trying to qualify for Worlds in 09 because it is combined in KC. A lot of people will be out looking for points. Right now there are only 4 PDGA sanctioned events in AR (and I would be that Hot Springs won't be next year). That means next year a lot of guys from up here will be playin a lot of outta state golf. Can't get those points in Arkansas. The toll both operators on the turnpike are gonna be working over time. :p

Hey Mayo i'm just tryin to boost intrest in all areas of the state.Don't go bein a pinhead becuase you don't agree with my methods. You try doin what I do sometime. This was the first time i've ever been to LR so don't give me that s#!t.You know my main area of work has been targeting western ar and eastern ok.Now i'm focusing on the state as a whole.
My last event as coordinator will be HOTB.If it's even that.
So you have Alma Greens(Which BTW I met with a sponsor prospect today about)And then HOTB.After that I may not even renew. These guys (So National) Aren't so bad anyway. At least the players get most of the money back at the Championships.
Yeah I can see the diffrence. Can you?
Here's the deal am.I've been a member of the pdga for over 25 years.Sure I support the association. But I also need to support anyone who else helps in making this sport grow.
You take the responsability of running a few events and get a couple more years under your belt then you can try and shoot me some bs response about how to do things. ;)

Whoa man, I was just givin ya a hard time about the movin to LR. I didn't expect the angry response. I just wanted to point out that by catering exclusively to one group you lose the other. I personally think that dual sanctioning would be the way to go. Or maybe completely unsanctioned (that pays even more back to the players). My point about worlds was because it seems like everything in the state is starting fall away from PDGA sanctioning. I was talking about next year. I don't see any of these tourneys jumping to the PDGA next year, and I would guess that some might drop from the PDGA schedule. That would leave very few opportunitys to earn points within the state. If all the pieces fall as I think they will, I will probably be moving to LR before long anyway. SN isn't a bad thing, it's just that all of the majors, except one or two require you to play PDGA sanctioned events. I have a lot of respect for what you have done for disc golf, especially around here. I don't want you to think I am disrespecting you simply because I voiced an opinion. That couldn't be further from the truth.
Heath
May 23 2007, 08:17 AM
Really don't think the State Coordinator should be running events for the competition.
Dual sanctioning-OK, SN only-bad move as the PDGA SC.
Just my 2 cents.
3902
May 23 2007, 09:16 AM
Next years series will cater to those seeking a trip to worlds.I've already discussed this with your new SC prospect.
If we use
Ben Geren HOTB
Alma Alma Greens
Fayetteville Invitational
Hot Springs Wildcat
Clarksville Eddy Bowl
Jasper Untitled
Jacksonville Untitled
Jonesboro Untitled
Little Rock State Champs
Russellville Invitational
There's 10 events that could go PDGA and should provide enough for Worlds and USDGC for 2008.
This is the State Series Cities and Courses for 2008.(My hopes)
Now your new SC should be able to get ahold of everyone involved with these events(And i've already greased the wheel,They know what's up)
As far as Russellville I don't have the time to chase down sponsorship to add cash. This would be the only reason I wouldn't go dual sanctioning. And since LR is right there I felt it was important to let those people see that we weren't trying to exclude them from the states tournaments. They are a SN based group. It's simply about giving and taking a little here and there. This simply puts us together on the same playing field once again.
By putting us all on the same field we can come to know and understand each others ideas more clearly. It's about everybody getting comfortable around each other,It's about them knowing us and we them,Being comfortable and trusting everybody is key to the series for next year.
So now Heath,Do you still think as the PDGA SC i've made a bad decision?
When you put faces to names on a screen it's easier to say HEY I know that dude,Yeah he's got some good ideas and intentions.I think i'll go with it and get to play some golf with those guys.Sounds cool to me.
Or,
Who the F is this dude.I don't know shinola about him Blah Blah Blah.Heck no we're not gonna give 5% to them,Heck no we're not gonna sanction with the PDGA.
Get it you guys?
Our relationship with central AR has just begun with this series idea.In the future I see "ADGA" Arkansas Disc Golf Association.
This is OUR States Association for the future. All the groups will make up this group. Each little association will appoint a rep or board member for this association. This group will run the State.
Each board member or rep will report to the ADGA where their group is and wants to be.What events they can bring to the table,What courses they can put in the ground.
With a strong State association we have way more power.More members means more power.
Are you guys understanding my methods yet. This State association is close.Within a year I can see it forming.
Within 2 to 3 years I can see our number of courses triple.
The PDGA State Coordinator can't stay in the confines of the PDGA box.Simply saying NO to these people would mean doing so.We can't afford this. We're already too far behind in the game.
I suggest you guys hit these SN events if you can.I suggest you get to know these folks and let them get to know us.
I suggest as an Arkansas resident we ALL hit the Arkansas events to show support and concern.By going off to another event the same weekend as an Arkansas event you simply say you don't care.
Get this straight my friends,I do care.I'm not finished because i'm leaving the SC spot to Ganzel. He's got the same ideas. My focus is putting those courses in the ground now. That ball is already rolling.
I appreciate your opinions,ALL OF THEM.It has allowed me to see some things more clearly. It has also allowed me to see who's in the game and who's not.If anybody can find the time "GET INVOLVED".Our A Tier and Supertour events rely on this.Arkansas has some kick butt courses and people. It's time we show those around us we can get it done.

Next year's series sounds great if that is how it falls. Wasn't States supposed to be PDGA sanctioned this year? I just don't see the central AR guys sanctioning PDGA tourneys. It would be like the Northshore Invitational being a SN event. People tend to stick with what they know. I truly hope that your ADGA idea comes to fruition. That sounds awesome! Is that gonna be a focus of yours after you are no longer SC? I really don't see an organization like that suceeding until all the affiliate clubs support one organization or the other. I think that the divide between SN and PDGA will kill an organization like that. That said, if it's PDGA I'll try my best to be there. If not, we'll see.
Heath
May 24 2007, 07:51 AM
Yes Tom, I do still think as the PDGA SC you have made a bad decision. A long, overtly defensive, reponse at me isn't going to change my opinion. Are your reasons for doing it valid? Maybe some of them are. But PROMOTING the competitions organization over the PDGA is an error on your part as the PDGA SC.
Why does it have to be SN at all? Little Rock is just right there, if they want to come they can. Do you understand that if it is not a SN event that they don't give two craps about playing in it?
We have consistently participated in Central AR events for years without them being PDGA. Seymore and a couple of other guys are the only ones who have played ANY other AR events that are not SN.
And before you get all bent out of shape again, remember it is just an opinion. Because it doesn't agree with yours doesn't make it wrong and yours right, or it right and yours wrong. Right?

May 24 2007, 08:57 AM
Heath,Your funny.Short enough? And I don't look at it as competing against them.More like working with them.Kinda like the Mayor of Alma. You wouldn't understand that would you.
Mayo,Yes States was supposed to be sanctioned but John Kittrel was so burried up he passed the TD responsabilities off to Lori Maxwell who then turned it over to Robbie Shaw so I guess the PDGA sanctioning was lost in the mix(People didn't know)
Next years should be sanctioned especially since Worlds is right next door. They should all be easily sanctioned due to this fact.

Great shootin' old man. Keep it up. See what a good lesson at Northshore from an Arkie can do for ya'. Dave is livin' proof.
For all others interested in signing up for a similiar lesson just PM me to discuss fees and scheduling ;) Seriously, I can improve your game. :D

Nice round brother man. Try to avoid those double digit scores tommorrow and you'll rocket up the board. OK, maybe not rocket up, but you won't lose any ground :) Keep it up and I suggest ear plugs in regard to the crap that I'm sure is flowing from Dave this evening. Patience grasshopper, PATIENCE!!

Still got a few OB to get rid of, not too bad though. Listen to this, left a new twisted flyer hat in a kids car, find him today and ask him if he found the hat that i had left, he turns his eyes up in the air and says, "What color was it?" :D:D :DTomorrow is another round, and another beautiful day on Winthrop Gold.

Hey Ganzel,
I've had a couple people ask me about next years series.
Think you could get the series schedule posted and the basics of it all down.
Last year I had the schedule down with the dates of most events and just the months to look for some of the others to happen.
Also I kept up with all the golfers on the WAFDA board.
Maybe you could use the NW site to do the same.If not use the WAFDA website. It's easy.
Anyway I know you've been busy and all but it's time to start thinkin about this schedule if you can.
Call me if you need to.
Later all !!!
Oh yeah !
BB&B was kickin *****$$$$$$$$!!!!!.Best time in a long time.
The ZZ Top thing "SUCKED"! :mad:I shoulda known better,But overall it was a great event.
Can't wait till next year.Way to go NW AR.
