Happy Fourth windriders. The road to tulsa is 20 days away. I cant wait.. It looks like lubbock is going to have an awesome showing like always lets go down there and show them how we play disc golf in west texas. Good luck to everyone that will be competeing that week. Yep, Lubbock is going to at least send a whole bunch of players. I sure hope everyone is signed up...as I bet things will be filling on this one. I hope that all of the Lubbock players do well in the rounds and in the field events. To this end, I'm holding a Prep. Day this coming Sunday. We'll play the course backwards before crowds come out, to get a 'Tulsa' feel (I'll have special cards made). Then we'll have a field events portion: a long drive competition (air only), a putting contest (will use the 'swirl nine', and a skills contest (we will have 20 stations of assorted throws, same format as they did at Flagstaff...I need a few portable baskets, please). Minimal entry fees.

I put a flyer on the sign with this info:
July 9, 2006
Meet at Mackenzie Park DG sign at 9:00 am for sign up.
Everyone is welcome to play…even if you are not planning to go to Worlds.
Presented by the Windriders Disc Golf Club
The scoop:
Backwards Play – Meet at 9:00 am, cali-singles, $3, includes ace pot (throw off it not hit). Some of the courses in Tulsa will be tight. We will play Mackenzie backwards from designated tee pads.
Break
Skills Contest - $1. After the round and after long drive. Stations will be set up to test assorted throws. We will use the 2005 Am Worlds format.
Putting Contest – $1. After the round and after long drive. The ‘swirl nine’ putting course will be used. We will use two putters from each position.
Long Drive – $1. Meet at 1:00 pm at hole 2. We will use the 2005 Am Worlds Format. You will get five drives (in air).
Jeremy, I'll use the practice basket for the putting portion. I would like to have minimal of two more, maybe three for the skills portion. For the putting, I made rules and scorecards. For the skills, I have position markers and cards to put on them along with scorecards. I also finished scorcards for the backwards play...and it will be a tough round. I hope we have a few players come out. I think a little exposure to the assorted formats will help us all in Tulsa.

Who is going to Tulsa? When? Matt is going to go :)! Stephen is still in the 'I don't know' stage. Others? V, Rob, Jeremy, Bo, Gordo, Albert, Larry, Jon, Chris, Sheri, Nate??? Travel plans? Who's on the Bo-Bus?

I'm not real sure who is rideing on the bo Bus. I know that albert, Chris lee are not going. JJ will be one of the newcomers there and so will I. Are you planning on setting the portables after the round during the Break? Do yall think we should cook some hamburgers after the round? I can get some portables.
Never Fear the Come back putt!!!!!!!!!!!

I suppose we'll know more by later today at the Thursday mini. I'm all for your hamburger idea...I'll pitch in a few dollars for some burgers. Yeah, I don't need to place baskets until we are there and ready (really it's the same with the markers). I think we might even do long drive last...so, do the round, break/food, while waiting start the putting, I'll setup the skills course, put baskets out, do it, eat (females, cripples, and elders first), finish putt and skills, pull portable baskets and skills course, then long-drive. It makes better sense to do it this way (at least right now...and I don't think anyone really cares).

We are also staying at the Holiday Inn Select. We will get in town the Sat. before the event starts. Also, I think I am going to get to evaluate 2 of the Worlds courses. Maybe you could come with....see how the evaluations work...and, practice a course at the same time?

Oooooohhhhhh, another long Deeeeeee Geeeeeeee day. Results:
We played the course backwards....some were very short, some were very long. Results to follow with comentary and embelishments.
The TD (yours truly, screwed up a few holes on the scorecard, but we managed). Gordo took honors (Bo injured, Marcus no show, I screw up three consecutive holes - Channel 11 filming, etc). Gordo played very clean, good score. Matt, AGAIN, beats me on the last putt of about 40' to take second. The round lasted nearly four hours!!! We the did the putting conest...$#@%!@& Gordo wins again with a 62, Bo and son Alec take second. Jermey cooks GREAT burgers an halftime. Then off to the Skills course with two baskets (backhand, forehand, turbo, thumber, tomahaw, rollers, scooby, 180 degrees, standing on your head, with obstacles, mandos, tounge out/in, and at assorted lengths, yeehaw)...Gordo AGAIN, $%&$^%#. But the old one legger pulls out the win (838 to 722). Okay, now that everyone is tired or gone, we do the long drive. We have no spotters so we decide to allow now rollers (crippled me AGAIN) and that we would mark the distance of where the disc lies. Well, I had an pretty decent OMB drive, @#$@% Gordo drives infinity +. Then Jeremy pulls out the tomahawk (pretty much of a back/right to left wind) and throws infinity + and gets a little roll for the beyond part....and wins the long drive. Sheri then gets to throw with an advantage and just nearly beats all of us. Overall, it was pretty interesting. Field events take a LOOOOONG time....beware at Tulsa, bring a chair, sit in the shade, bring food and drinks. Thanks Jeremy for cookin'! Oh, Sheri is running a Glow Night this Friday July 14th at 9:00.

I ran a few stats. It looks like, based on ratings, that Vicente has the best chance for a win among our Lubbockites. I figure Rob will play well also due to most of the courses catering to long drives. I think that Gordo will play well on the Tulsa couses, especially when things are tight. I think that the courses will test us (remember Gordo, that I controlled in skills...ha). But, I played with Bo last Saturday....he could do major damage, drives are phenomenal, puts are on. I say, let's get Lubbock in the top ten in three divisions (well actually multiples in each of the three divisons we're playing....advanced, adv masters, grand masters)..sure wish Sheri and Stephen were playing. Mostly, let's have some fun (remember the PDGA rule). I'm buying the first round for any Lubbock or semi-related player......

Is Albert making the trip? I don't know what division he plays. I've met a few of ya'll when I've been out on the course with my Bro-in-law (Brian Walsh). His brother, Brandon and I will be there!
Safe Travels!

Howdy Wammy. Brian fell of the face of the earth...? There are quite a few of us Lubbockites livin' on Tulsa time. Rob, V, Matt, Me, Bo, Gordo, Jon, JJ, Jeremy and a few of the past locals Jeff-O, Stephen Brower. Matt and I are at the HI Select, Rob and gang are sardining it up the road at a Days. Bo? Gordo and Sheri took 5th in a field of apx 30 doubles players...yeeeehawww! Matt and I just finished our first round...I played okay (missed a ten footer though), Matt had problems. More later. Drop by 259.

Hey Patrick, good luck and bring one home for East Texas. Tom and I should be there as well, but unfortunately didn't work out.

Howdy Chad. East Texas? Lubbock is still in West Texas. I started out okay and tapered to the dark side since. I am truely learning what the mental game is about, along with missed putts. Overall, Texas is doing well though.

Oops, where's my compass??? Well, I hope you can make the semis. I have been out of the tourney scene for awhile, but am going to play in Tucson at the Tumbleweed Open which is at a resort ball golf course with carts and everything. SHould be a blast (Aug 26-27). Wish I could have made it to Tulsa. Is this your first Worlds?

Yep, I played last year in Flagstaff. The courses in Tulsa were generally longer, generally more open, and with very good design. In most cases, you had to execute a good drive, upshot, and putt (or multiples of them on the longer holes) to have a chance at a good score. Gordo, Bo, Alex, Vicente, I all got to play on Saturday morning in the semifinals in our respective divisions. The final nines for both the Advanced and Advance Masters ended up in sudden death playoffs (after 7.5 rounds of play). The final nines and the sudden deaths were great to watch. They ended up at apx 4:30...I drove all the way back to Lubbock...others to trickle in today. Begin preperation for 2007 in WI by playing in That Cotton Pickin' DG Tourney....see other thread.

Great job makin the semis even though I know you would have liked to place a little higher (duh). Anyhow, was wondering if you have any star wraiths that you could sell to me. I think you said you sell discs for your club when you were last in EP. Please email me at chadmilty@hotmail.com.
Thanks!

Great job on the semi's!
Jeremy- I never made it to the host hotel after we spoke, do you still have my long lost disc? Thanks again for toting it all over the place! Very cool of you to try to reunite us!
Brian has been working 2 jobs, so I don't think he's had much free time- plus his Dr told him to lay off the disc golf after he had surgery on his wrist.
