Okay the votes are in, and the entry fee will be $4 with the optional $1 skipot. The Uber Team lost both polls so the odd person out will have the choice of paying the regular $4 and getting one throw per lie, or pay $8 and get two throws per lie. Since the odd player out will always be playing alone one way or another, we'll go back to calling that person The Lone Ranger.

Looking online for a Nomads logo for a flyer both Yahoo! and google gave me this:

http://fantasy.mrugala.net/Dorian%20Cleavenger/Dorian%20Cleavenger%20-%20Nomads.jpg

I'll be buying a van this weekend and have this painted on both sides.

<font color="green"> OH THE HYPOCRISY!!! </font>

from the minor league bored:

7 showed for a rainless round at the rock. Team Evil/Elliot/Seven shot the hot 47 to team Prez/Ski's 49. Cam and I decided to walk around the Rock for awile with disc's in hand, throwing randomly at metal baskets. This achieved us only a 53. However, Cam did DEUCE 14! Next week, same time!!

That's three people playing as a doubles team! That looks an awful lot like an Uber Team to me.

The Thrilling Adventure That Is Nomad Doubles Resumes Tomorrow!

1700 (or 5:00 pm for you civilians) @ Seneca.

We'll be playing the long tees.

It's $4 a head, with the optional $1 Skipot.

Lone Ranger either plays...with himself...or pays double and pretends to have a friend.

Current Nomad Doubles point standings are:
Ray-4
George-4
Wayne-3
Sean-3
Susi-2

that's not fair. patapsco wins shouldn't be carried into nomad!!!

hawkgammon
Jul 07 2006, 09:48 PM
It would also be unfair to toss those out because I've reinvented the concept and created the Nomads.

Perhaps you'd prefer to play on the Uber Team at TeeBurn each week?

Are you really that intimidated by four points?

How many people do you really think are going to travel to each venue?

Besides do you think I'll be back at Patapsco before the first freeze?

I'm sure we'll play four times just about everywhere else before then.

Suck it up sissy.

He's just upset that I have played once and already have 3 more points than him. That and the fact that he did not feel manly enough to pull off the"The Clown Car" (http://www.canadiandriver.com/news/02images/element_sketch.jpg), so he had to go with The Soccer Mom Deluxe (http://www.usborneusa.com/images/photo/newvan.jpg). :o

<font color="purple"> A Record Tying Crowd of 16 Discers Show For Seneca Nomad Stop </font>

<font color="green"> Can Anyone Beat J.G. and Whoever? </font>

Arriving way early for the 1700 kick-off I find a decent sized, and generally elderly, group of discers loitering in the parking lot. I first take care of some Maryland Nomad business by presenting Metl (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/playerstats.php?PDGANum=10829) with his official tour polo.

Also in attendence were Nomad members George (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/playerstats.php?PDGANum=11288) and Rich (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/playerstats.php?PDGANum=19614) who arrived riding their bikes (http://www.bradthegame.com/jones/teens-on-tricycles.jpg) together.

Two new players put in requests to join the club and placed orders for their polos. Look for Buckethead (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/playerstats.php?PDGANum=18806) and Mr. Stick (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/playerstats.php?PDGANum=7750) to be styling on a course near you in the coming weeks.

There was a brief moment of levity during the wait when I headed over to the loo and a disc came whizzing near me. It appeared to have come from Jim. (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/playerstats.php?PDGANum=16906) I took the disc into the portable facility with me, and Jim's still not sure if the disc accidently got wet or not. ;)

While killing time several of the locals approached me with questions about life and love attempting to turn my celebrity appearance into a live version of <font color="red">Ask Hawk.</font> I explained to them that I generally don't speak to the public, and I referred them back to the thread. I did graciously pose for some photos with them at $10 a pop.

At around 1640 I began taking sign-ups and as feared I was bombarded with fives. :( I handled that fairly well but then some grandmaster (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/playerstats.php?PDGANum=25403) shows up with a twenty. Who brings twenties to doubles? The ensuing change making left Rick out of the draw :Dbut it all worked out in the end. Next week some loser will probably show up with something (http://www.certifiedgoldexchange.com/images/pics/bullion_bars.jpg) even worse. Hey people how about some singles (http://usfweb2.usf.edu/LOSStudy/dollar_bills.jpg) please!

I also had to repeatedly explain the rather simple concept that is the Skipot. Hit an ace you get the money and the pot named after you. Metl is very anxious to have the metlpot, and there was much talk of Pat Pitts hitting an ace if he ever makes a tour stop. :D

After conducting my ATM business the draw commenced. Note: Please hold onto your chips until the number pair is called. You people did this under Metl...it's not that hard. Teams were:

Eric D. &amp; George: Public Enemy
Mac &amp; D.J.: Team Close Shave
Rick &amp; Sean: The Homies
Dan &amp; Hawk: Team Midrange
Steve &amp; Larry: Two Guys I Don't Know
Boyce &amp; Keith: The Skyscrapers
Ray &amp; Metl: Team Tie Dye
Rich &amp; J.G.: Team Nomads

We scattered about the course and play began from the longs. On the front nine Public Enemy deuced #3 :) but took a four on #8. :( Team Close Shave (who obviously are looking for an endorsement (http://www.yenra.net/gillette-razors/m3power-gillette-razors.jpg) deal) deuced #2! :cool:The Homies had a little more difficulty taking fours on numbers one and five, :mad:but they did have a spectacular deuce on #9 when Nomad Sean nails a 60'+ jump putt for the two! :cool:Team Midrange also foured one and then also #8, :( but did score a deuce on #4 when Dan's hyzer drive lands five feet from the basket for the near dropin.:D Two Guys I Don't Know join the party of fours on #1. The Skyscrapers punk everyone on the front by deucing #'s 4 &amp; 7 and going bogey free! :) :cool:Team Tie Dye also deuce #4 (the fronts other theme) but go back to back with fours on #'s 7 &amp; 8. :( Team Nomads take a four on #2 :obut deuce #4 :) like the rest of the crowd. Scores on the front were:

The Skyscrapers: 25
Team Close Shave: 26
Public Enemy: 27
Team Nomads: 27
Two Guys I Don't Know: 28
Team Tie Dye: 28
The Homies: 28
Team Midrange: 28

Off to the back! On #11 The Homies (that's a disc golf phrase that really needs to be retired ;)) take a circle four :p while Team Midrange takes a straight four.

I'm just going to throw my Buzz up the fairway like I did at the Soiree four times in a row successfully.
-Dan just before he yanks his drive into the hill on the right side.

The Homies follow-up their circle four with a regular four on #12, :( and the wheels totally come off with another four on #14. :oTeam Midrange tries to keep things close by taking a four on #15. :( Both teams are solid /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif on #17 with matching fours. :oPublic Enemy nearly pars the back except for a five :mad:on #15. Team Close Shave starts the back hot by deucing #10 :) :cool:but then string three fours together in a row  :oon #'s 11-13 to take themselves out of contention. They did earn a circle with their four on #11 though. :DThe also foured #17. :( Not to be outdone Team Tie Dye also manage to string a turkey of fours together on #'s 14-16. :o:mad:Team Nomads make a move by deucing #11, :cool:and play clean the rest of the way through the back! Two Guys I Don't Know take a ride on a roller coaster by deucing #13, :cool:but promptly follow that up with a five on #14. :mad:Clearly rattled they go 4-4 on #'s 15 &amp; 16. The Skyscrapers smelling blood open up deuce :cool:deuce :) on #'s 10 &amp; 11. They take the semi-obligatory four on #15, but rub it in everyone's face by deucing #18! :D Scores on the back were:

The Skyscrapers: 25 (50)
Team Nomads: 26 (53)
Public Enemy: 29 (56)
Team Close Shave: 30 (56)
Team Midrange: 30 (58)
Team Tie-Dye: 30 (58)
Two Guys I Don't Know: 30 (58)
The Homies: 31 (59)

The Flyers president and the Soiree td walk off with a fat stack of ones which I wasn't swift enough to cash back for some fives and grandpas twenty. /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Oh well I'll just pull a couple of extra shifts at my part time (http://www.xanadu-agency.co.uk/assets/images/stimulationx-stripper2.JPG) job this week to build the stack of singles back up.

Hawk this roaming doubles is a great idea!*
-Ray after the round.
*uncompensated endorsement.

Current Nomad Doubles standing are:

Boyce-7
Keith-7
Ray-4
George-4
Wayne-3
Sean-3
Susi-2

The Skipot was not hit and currently stands at $23.

See you (and your ones!!!) at Rockburn Saturday at 1000 where the tour resumes and we'll play: Is this the tee?

i'm not sure i understand the point system....do only the winners get points? if so it would seem to not make sense to have the amount of points based on how many teams you beat. if so everyone should get points for the teams they beat and i would have 6 points! i think last years system with 1 point per victory was better...

hawkgammon
Jul 10 2006, 12:27 PM
i'm not sure i understand the point system

That's because you're either too stupid to comprehend this or you have short term memory issues:

The individual champion will be determined by a tally of points earned during the season. Each winning team member earns one point for each team they beat. Only the winning team members earn points. It's a continuation of the winner take all concept.
-Patapsco Doubles Thread 4-16-06

Beating seven teams is more impressive than beating two teams and thus is worth more. Losers like you get no points for second.

i think last years system with 1 point per victory was better...

There was no system last year. It was just a list of names, and I decided at the end to award a prize.

Sean is still three points ahead of you.

Rockburn at 1000 on Saturday is the Next Nomad Doubles Stop.

Come out and possibly get paired up with Rich (http://www.purplepod.com/roger/examples/stockmarket_site/anchor.jpg) who has of late managed to lose with J.G., Boyce (half of last weeks big winning team) and far throwing Shannon. Get dragged down as Rich explains to you how to play. ;)

hawkgammon
Jul 14 2006, 10:42 PM
This just in...more or less.

In their excitement that Nomad Doubles is coming, the Rockburn Crew has done some work on the course and it has apparently been recently mowed:

To ball golf standards!
-The Anchor in a cell phone conversation around 1730.

Rich was also heading out there to do some grooming this evening:

You're coming and I don't want to have to read about the course for three months on the big bored!

Also Rich is feeling confident that he will finally break into the Nomad Doubles standings:

I'm going to be a winner. I can feel it!

This should strike fear deep into your soul if at 1001 tomorrow you're holding the matching chip. Is that chants of Lone Ranger I hear as The Anchor reaches into the bag?

<font color="green"> Controversy Ensues At The Conclusion of Today's Nomad Doubles! </font>

<font color="pink">rockburn crue fails to sack up and no shows </font>

Arriving around 0930 I find Buckethead waiting in the parking lot with several cars I don't recognize. Rich (http://www.seawear.com/images/dolphins/dolphin-anchor-JCG369~100.jpg) rolls in soon afterward, and sits in his mini-van (http://www.op.net/~cinder/signs/soccer_mom_sign.gif) eating. The early highlight was Rich exiting the vehicle and immediately spilling his Diet Coke.

By 1000 seven players, including recent minor league bored gadfly Shaun, had posted for a little doubles action. Also we had our first woman join us when Kelly rolls. Announcing that she is fit (http://www.kellys.com/images/blonde10.jpg) again post baby she's ready to earn some money for the Boyce clan two weeks in a row. With the odd number of attendees we were ready to have our first go with the revamped Lone Ranger rules, and Nomad Sean draws the LR chip out of the bag immediately.

Hawk: You can go out single or pay double and throw double.
Sean: I'm paying double.

This would be in accordance with what you the great unwashed voted for and was publicly posted:

Okay the votes are in, and the entry fee will be $4 with the optional $1 skipot. The Uber Team lost both polls so the odd person out will have the choice of paying the regular $4 and getting one throw per lie, or pay $8 and get two throws per lie. Since the odd player out will always be playing alone one way or another, we'll go back to calling that person The Lone Ranger.
-Your Charming Host on 6-24-06 on the first page of this thread!

So the teams were:

Sean: The Lone Ranger
Rich &amp; George: The Nomads
Kelly &amp; Hawk: K Squared
Tom E. &amp; Shaun: Learn From Me

And so we went to find the tees at holes one and nine. Learn From Me start of slow taking a four on #1. :( The Nomads strike first deucing #2 :cool:and follow that up by also deucing #3. :) K Squared also deuce #3 :) after Kelly sends a Leopard straight at the basket giving me a chance to make a run at the Skipot which I miss by one or two feet. The Nomads stay hot deucing #5, :Dbut not to be outdone Kelly hammers her Sidewinder into the small cluster of trees to the right of the basket  and easily makes the deuce. :) She promptly follows this up by driving and deucing #6! :D The Lone Ranger finally gets into the act on #6 by also deucing it. :cool:I again come rather close to the Skipot on #7 but we only manage a three while The Nomads actually convert the deuce. :) Learn From Me have some trouble on #8 and take a four :( as does The Lone Ranger. :mad:However The Lone Ranger responds by deucing #9 short. :) The Nomads match The Lone Ranger with a deuce of their own. :DMeanwhile K Squared botch the hole and take a four. :( Scores on the front were:

The Nomads-22
K Squared-25
The Lone Ranger-26
Learn From Me-29

Can anyone catch The Anchor and George? On the back The Lone Ranger continues to struggle taking a four on #10. How can this be with double shots? However The Lone Ranger rallies on #13 with a deuce :) while everyone else is stringing along a bunch of threes. The Nomads add a deuce on #15 to break up their string o'threes. On #16 I drive K Squared around the turn and announce that we're busting out and getting a deuce. My run at the 50'er falls short underneath the bucket, but Kelly (http://www.patfullerton.com/superman/pix/supergirl/supergirl1.jpg) steps right up and slams the deuce try home. The Lone Ranger, K Squared, and Learn From Me all take the obligatory four on 18 long. Scores on the back were:

The Nomads-26 (48)
K Squared-27 (52)
The Lone Ranger-28 (54)
Learn From Me-28 (57)

As we are gathered around the bench on #18 The Anchor begins informing me that The Lone Ranger concept is flawed for Am's because only getting one extra shot per hole and having to decide on which shot to use it on is unfair. I look at Rich confused and ask him what he is babbling about. Well it turns out that when Sean vs. Rich &amp; George teed off on #9 there was some discussion about how Sean was to play as The Lone Ranger and Rich "I'm going to be a winner. I can feel it!" Myers apparently convinced Sean that he didn't get two throws per lie as clearly stated, but that he was playing under the one extra throw per hole, gotta take the second throw rule that was banterd about on the bored. Of course after I pointed out that it was clearly detailed on the thread (in a post that Rich actually replied to though he claimed not to have read) and that Sean seemed to understand up in the parking lot what his choices were. Rich tried to make things even by paying Sean the extra $4 he had paid for all of the second shots he didn't get. :p Of course Sean also has responsibility here in that he should know what he could do, and not back down when Rich tried to sell him on the rules.

Well I thought he knew what he was talking about since he's your touring partner, the state coordinator, plus I was intimidated by his greater physical presence.
-A crestfallen Sean (http://www.fiercedove.com/cherub.jpg) after the round.

He wouldn't have caught us anyways. George and I were on fire today!
-Dr. Cheat after the round.

One can only wonder if this post:

He's just upset that I have played once and already have 3 more points than him.
-Sean on 7-8-06

might have had something to do with today's confusion.

The Skipot went unhit and now stands at $28.

The Current Nomad Doubles standings are:

George-7
Boyce-7
Keith-7
Ray-4
Dr. Cheat-3
Wayne-3
Sean-3
Susi-2

Next Saturday we go from the wood tees at Druid at 1100. Come out and see what lows Rich will stoop to while he claws his way up the standings!

Jul 15 2006, 05:08 PM
I took a five on 18, so I actually shot a 55.

I didn't hear the part about throwing double when you asked if I was paying double. I had already decided to pay double as I thought (correctly) that I got two shots each throw. As we walked to 9, The Anchor says "You know if you take a second shot you have to take that one right? It's like taking a mulligan." Well I hazily recalled something being discussed in that manner and of course being my State Coordinator, the great Hawk's touring partner and having a greater physical presence (due I believe to many early morning McDonalds fruit parfaits :D), I of course took his word. Not an excuse. I should have known my rules.

Either way, I would not have won. The Nomads were shooting well today.

Jeff_Peters
Jul 15 2006, 07:34 PM
When it works out that there is a "single" when we play doubles around here, the "single" gets an extra shot PER HOLE free of charge, HOWEVER if this singles steps it up and pays DOUBLE his entry fee, then and only then does the single get to take 2 shots PER LIE.

hawkgammon
Jul 15 2006, 07:39 PM
The card was kind of blurry there. Humidity, paper and pencils are not winning combinations. You still land solidly in third place and your prize remains unchanged.

So I knew what you were supposed to do, you knew what you were supposed to do...hmmmm...sounds like malfeasance to me.

I'll have to post a complete review of the rules Friday so everyone should know the deal.

For example: It's best disc. It's always been best disc.

Over the years of touring together I have seen many a fruit parfait meet it's maker.

Dick
Jul 15 2006, 10:58 PM
my fault. i accept total blame for mistaking the rule. i told sean it was one extra throw per lie, but you had to take the second throw if you made it, which is what i thought you had said was the rule. i apologize to sean for screwing him up today.
still, i think george and i would have won regardless. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Tomorrow we'll be at Druid teeing off from the woods at <font color="blue"> 1100. </font>

The Anchor has announced that he may be unable to attend so don't let the fear of potentially having to partner with him keep you away.

Remember:

1. It's $4 with the $1 optional <font color="orange">Skipot. </font>
2. It's best disc doubles. You and your shadow play from the same lie.
3. The Lone Ranger gets one throw per lie, or two throws per lie if they paid double i.e. $8.
4. The <font color="orange">Skipot </font> currently stands at $28.
5. If Rich tells you something it's 50-50 that he's wrong.

No doubles next Saturday as I'll be playing the Sizzler while watching Rich develop heat stroke.

Hey, I thought odds were good that I wouldn't get stuck with an Anchor tomorrow- I haven't had a chance to cash all week, my partners having been <font color="red"> Our Disc Golf Hero </font>, Shirky, The Load, and Rockburn Course Pro Billstream. Sharky is at Warwick, Dr. Evil might not show, BB will still be sleeping it off at 11am, so that just left Hawk- and I didn't think I'd get stuck with Hawk twice in a row.

But now, 857 is threatening his presence- do I take the risk of getting anchored by yet another partner this week, or should I just stay home and crochet? :D(That reminds me Hawk, you keep forgettiing to give me that crochet pattern you were telling me about) ;)

I knew I was on my way to the city this morning when as I exited the beltway onto Liberty Heights I see two county cops patting down the driver of a van on the shoulder. There's always something interesting to see on the way to Druid.

I arrived early so I got some warm up putting in attempting to get around the nine on the practice basket. 20 minutes later I was ready to go. It appeared that we'd be having a Lone Ranger today when my cell phone rang, and it was The Anchor assuring me he was four blocks away. Being six we drew and the teams were:

Dr. Cheat & Your Disc Golf Hero: Team Grunt
George & Jim: Lean Mean Discing Machine
Kelly & Paul: Grunge Putters

But now, 857 is threatening his presence- do I take the risk...?
-Kelly 7-21-06

<font color="red"> Nomad Doubles: where dreams become reality! </font> ;)

Opting to go out as a sixsome we departed to #1 wood. After my drive for Team Grunt the bickering began as Rich announced that we should watch his superior drive, which actually was better than mine, and we deuced :) as did Lean Mean Discing Machine. :DThe delightful banter continued on hole 2 when Rich and I debate which drive to take. Unable to reach consensus Rich announces that we can each take our own. Hello it's best disc you tool!

Remember:

1. It's $4 with the $1 optional Skipot.
2. It's best disc doubles. You and your shadow play from the same lie.
3. The Lone Ranger gets one throw per lie, or two throws per lie if they paid double i.e. $8.
4. The Skipot currently stands at $28.
5. If Rich tells you something it's 50-50 that he's wrong.
-Your Disc Golf Hero 7-21-06

We interrupt this write-up for this special message:

Hi kids. My name is Rich Myers. When I was younger I spent a lot of time ingesting certain things that weren't good for me, and certainly aren't good for you. I stopped doing those kind of self destructive things over a decade ago, and today I'm a respected member of society with a high paying job in the computer industry, a loving wife and family, and a great group of friends who love and cherish me. So remember to stay in school, say your prayers, and don't do drugs or drink. Otherwise you'll end up with the complete inability to remember anything other than your passwords to reality porn websites.

We now resume our regular programming.

After reminding The Anchor that we had to choose one we took his lie and got a three. Meanwhile Grunge Putters make the deuce when Kelly converts Paul's drive. :) On #3 things look bad for Grunge Putters when they follow up Paul's ctp drive with two botched approaches. Paul into the left red leafed tree, and Kelly into the right red leafed tree. However the former world champ again steps up and makes a long putt to salvage their three. The Lean Mean Discing Machine take the lone four. :( We three along until #6 when The Lean Mean Discing Machine convert George's drive into their second deuce. :cool:On #7 I nearly double wow the crowd with my impressive drive and near conversion for the deuce, but alas it's just another three. I follow this up with another entertaining drive on #8, but we again fail to get the easy deuce. :(

Hawk: We should be a couple ahead of these clowns by now.
Rich: True.
Hawk: Let's try to make something happen here.
Rich: I'm right on that.

Right on that entailed a laser beam right down the road from the ninth tee. It's another cluster of threes. :p Scores after the front nine were:

Team Grunt-26
Lean Mean Discing Machine-26
Grunge Putters-26

It's anybodies match! On #10 Team Grunt again have to debate which mediocre drive to take. Mine is way left and up the hill near #18's tee, but it's an open shot to the c pin. Rich is under the first tree near the path requiring a kneeling or leaning shot. I agree to take his and we both botch it giving us our first four of the day. :mad:Rich and I wow the crowd again on #11 with an impressive display of our power game as we turnover around the corner heading for the c pin. Naturally I was 10' closer with a much slower disc. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Lean Mean Discing Machine open up a two stroke lead on Team Grunt and a one stroke lead on Grunge Putters on #12 when they again convert George's drive for a deuce. :) On #13 Rich and I have impressive drives taking different routes at the basket. Rich's turnover ends up being better than my hyzer, and he converts it for the deuce! :) The Grunge Putters fall two back behind Lean Mean Discing Machine on #14 when they take a four. :( Team Grunt again had a difference of opinion on how to attack the basket on #14 after taking my drive which bailed us out after Rich's went 40' before hitting the trees to the left of the metal tee. Rich attempts a forehand roller which heads <<< away for the basket. I attempt to hyzer around the right side of the guardian trees but sail dead straight. This leads to much grumbling from The Anchor.

Rich: I told you that wouldn't work.
Hawk: It was a solid plan just poorly executed.
Rich: Whatever. We're still 30' out!
Hawk: If I make this putt will you shut up.
Rich: Yes.
I convert the putt.
Rich:..............................

Also on #14 George unleashed a wicked forehand roller that squeaked past the mando tree and then surprisingly cut up the incline nearly to the path. Working on their approach shot Jim rolls into Greenspring where his disc isn't merely hit by a car, but is obliterated before ending up Jim high on the other side of the road. The sound and visual of this is only rivaled by the time Ski hit the moving cars windshield while driving on #11 at Pine Grove a couple of years ago. Grunge Putters take a four. :( After my silencing putt Rich decides to man up and solo threes #15 :) while both Lean Mean Discing Machine :( and Grunge Putters :mad:take fours. The fisherman's presence is felt. On #16 we dodge a bullet when we fail to convert Rich's decent drive, and sweat it out while Jim and George both botch their 15'ers :mad:for a possible deuce. On #17 I again crank a Starfire right at the basket enabling Rich to deuce us up from 12' out :) while the other two teams take threes. Everyone threes 18. :DScores on the back were:

Team Grunt-26 (52)
Lean Mean Discing Machine-27 (53)
Grunge Putters-29 (55)

As everyone was preparing to depart the following was overheard making the whole day worthwhile:

I hate losing to those guys (http://www.sharkysshots.com/albums/userpics/10002/schizophrenic_kitty%2Bkat_klassi0009.JPG) more than anyone else.
-857 after completing Kelly's dream doubles week.

<font color="purple"> TEN SHOW FOR NOMAD DOUBLES AT PINE GROVE </font>

<font color="blue"> Who Is Mas Macho? Glen, Troddy or Dean? </font>

<font color="red">Can George Take The Solo Points Lead? </font>

Arriving at 1030 I park next to the <font color="orange">Skimobile </font> but see no one about. Playas began to trickle in around 1045, and we would have been Skiless if George hadn't had the <font color="orange">orange one </font> in his cell phone to call him back to the parking lot. With the surprise attendence of Terry Roddy and Dean we had an even ten and the draw commenced without Mr. Sherwood who was off somewhere doing something by himself. Teams were:

George & Tom E: Silver Foxes
Hawk & Dean: Polo Shirts
Ski & Paul Battlin' Am's
Troddy & Mr. Sherwood Trark
Toad & Glen The Cheaters

As previously announced I avoided the sixsome and sent Toad & Glen out unescorted and thus they were dubbed The Cheaters by everyone else. I believe that will be the official name of any solo team from this point forward. :DWe spread out to holes 1, 3 & 10 on a three hour search for some threes. :D

The Silver Foxes start off hot deucing #1 , but follow that right up with a four :( on #2 with an OB drive by George and a short follow-up by Tom. Polo Shirts three along until #3 where I Shark past the basket and convert the putt for our deuce. :) The Battlin' Am's take even longer to get going before they get their first deuce on #5, :) but finish the front with a four :( on #9. Trark have an even greater struggle threeing all the way until #9 which they also four. :mad:The Cheaters come out smoking with deuces on #'s 1 :cool:and 4 :), but take a four :( on #7. Scores on the front nine were:

Polo Shirts-26
The Cheaters-26
Silver Foxes-27
Battlin' Am's-27
Trark-28

Turning around we head back to the parking lot and vehicular air conditioning. The Cheaters start off hot deucing #10, but follow that up with a five on #11. :o:eek: :mad:The obligatory four on #16 keeps The Cheaters honest. ;) The Battlin' Am's have their choice of circle fours :oon #11 where Ski appeared to again clear the roadway, and it looked like Paul missed the mando. :( They pull it back together though deucing #12, :cool:and then #14 :) to move into contention. However they take a five on #16 :( and then get another circle four :mad:on #17 to bookend their back nine. Trark finally scores a deuce  on #12 but also take a five on #16. :( The Silver Foxes continue their string o'threes on the back, and add a four on #16 for good measure. :p Polo Shirts come out hot deucing #10 :cool:off Dean's drive and putt, and then also deuce #13 when Dean's roller outdistances my power hyzer and then he converts the 45' putt. :) We take the par four on #16 ;) and then on #17 Dean again rips a drive towards the basket for his 10' deuce putt. :DHaving been informed by the Battlin' Am's in passing that we were tied, Dean and I make heroic tries out our 80' deuce putts on #18 from the top of the hill behind the backstop down to the pin in the far back corner. Dean sails right over the top, and my putt bangs off the yellow band. However it turns out we were mislead by the Battlin' Am's and had things well in hand. Scores on the back were:

Polo Shirts-25 (51)
Silver Foxes-28 (55)
Trark-28 (56)
The Cheaters-29 (55)
Battlin' Am's-29 (56)

The <font color="orange">Skipot </font> went unclaimed and now stands at $41.

Okay we'll be doing the Swamp stop this Saturday the 19th at 1100 hours from the <font color="blue">blues. </font>

Let's review the concept as we might be getting a lot of new blood due to the bigoted policies of the Tuesday night host.

$4 gets you in.
$1 optional <font color="orange">Skipot.</font> Currently stands at $41.
It's best disc doubles.
In the event of an odd number of players the person drawing the Lone Ranger chip can play solo and gets one throw per lie or can pay double and gets two throws per lie.
Winning team takes all the $.

Special bonus prize this week for the winners: Each player gets a sampler CD from the states best music station. (http://wwwnew.towson.edu/wtmd/)

As always don't listen to the Anchor if he shows up.

<font color="green"> 11 Players Show For Saturday @ The Swamp </font>

I arrived early to practice with the JK's which are replacing the Star Aviars on advice of Mr. Dunipace. While warming up I run into Larry (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/playerstats.php?PDGANum=25410) who is playing casually with some friends. We chat briefly and I explain that the circus is in town today, and he informs me that he and some other deaf discers are waiting for one more person and then they will have a meeting. Hmmmm...what do we really know about these deaf disc golfers? Are they really just the friendly players we all know, or is this merely a facade for some sort of other group? (http://drew.levid.com/img/terrorist_cells.jpg) A series of telephone calls and verbal messages were relayed concerning the tardy arrival of announced players, but everyone but George was present at 1100. We had a couple of newbies today as Kevin and Rhonda made their Nomad Doubles debuts.

I didn't even know this was going on. I called Boyd this morning and he told me about it.
-Silverwolf

Curiously 18.2% of todays players were women (http://putaindenom.free.fr/dredi/inconnue_02.jpg) which is a percentage I doubt any other doubles event could match. Coincidence, or the drawing power of Your Disc Golf Hero's sex appeal? Hands went into the bag, and the teams were drawn as:

Silverwolf &amp; Glen: K &amp; G (http://www.kgmens.com/media/StoreImages/Marietta.jpg)
Sean &amp; Ray: S.R. (http://www.srsmith.com/)
Paul &amp; Sharkstar: 5x A Week
George &amp; Hawk: The Nomads
Tom &amp; Kelly: Generation III
Rhonda: The Lone Rangerette (http://www.wantedcowgirls.com/images/blackwhip.JPG)

A tough break for Rhonda but she womaned up and went out with just the one throw per lie. I'm sure she was the big winner though as she doubtlessly had the most fun. (http://www.erosentertainment.com/erospromos/moviewallpapers/images/FUN-WALL---06.jpg) With that business completed we headed out for a round from the <font color="blue"> blues.</font>

The disadvantage of being The Lone Rangerette showed up early as Rhonda goes back to back with fours on #'s 2 &amp; 3. :( Then things got uglier as she hits a rough patch going 4-circle 5-5-4-4 on #'s 5-9. /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Generation III started off hot deucing both #'s 1 &amp; 2 :) :cool:and throw in deuces on #'s 4 &amp; 6 :Dfor a solid start. 5X A Week take an unfortunate four on #1 when Paul's drive is high into the leaves, and Mr. Sherwood misses the mando for the 314th time in his Swamp career. :oThey rebound nicely though deucing #2 :) off of Paul's drive and putt and then also get #4 :cool:off of Mr. Sherwood's drive. Continuing to deuce the even holes 5X A Week get #6 :Dand close out the front getting yet another deuce on #9. :) The Nomads start off strong deucing #1 off of George's impressive sidearm park job :Dand then get #3 when George converts my drive (2' behind Mr. Sherwood's :o) after my 40' putt chains out. :DWe take my drive on #4 where I solidly convert the 5'er /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif and then on #6 I convert George's drive for our fourth deuce on the front. :cool:We match 5X A Week with a deuce of our own on #9. :) The heavy hitters card starts of surprisingly slow as K&amp;G take two holes to deuce /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif converting #2, and then deuce each subsequent even hole hitting #4 :), #6 :D#8 :D and just to mix things up also take down #9. :cool:S.R. match Generation III's hot start deucing #'s 1 &amp; 2 :cool:They also continue the theme of even hole deuces getting #4 :D, but then stumble taking a four on #7. Regrouping S.R. go back to back deucing #'s 8 &amp; 9. :) Scores off the front were:

K&amp;G: 22
The Nomads: 22
S.R.: 23
Generation III: 23
5X A Week: 24
The Lone Rangerette: 36

Off to the back where The Lone Rangerette breaks through deucing #10! :) :cool:Unfortunately Rhonda then takes fives on #'s 11 &amp; 13, but plays solidly the rest of the way stringing threes around a four on #16 and a five on #18. Generation III also deuce #10 :) and then go on a mini hot streak almost getting the deuce turkey by carding twos on #'s 14, 15 and 17. :D:) :cool:The Nomads join the deuce fest on #10 when George converts my drive. :DWe three along until #15 when we have a dramedy moment when we both miss 12' putts off my drive taking a three instead of the easy deuce. :o:eek: /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif I convert my drive for the deuce on #17. :) 5X A Week were solidly threeing along until #15 when they get the turkey deucing #15 off of nearly identical drives, :Dand then Paul converts #16 when he Wraiths past the basket, :) and on #17 which they again converted. :cool:The deucefest continues at #10 when K&amp;G join the party :cool:but cool off a bit until collecting deuces on #'s 15, 17 &amp; 18! :D S.R. also deuce #10 (yes everyone got it but 5X A Week /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif) but follow that up with a costly four :( on #11. They make an impressive late run though deucing #15 :D#16 :) #17 :cool:and also getting #18! :D :cool:Scores on the back were:

K&amp;G: 23 (45)
S.R.: 23 (46)
Generation III: 23 (46)
5X A Week: 24 (48)
The Nomads: 25 (47)

<font color="red"> Will This Be The End Of Nomad Doubles? </font>

Things got off to a chaotic start this afternoon out at Patapsco as I had left the doubles bag on the dinner table at home. Fortunately Tom and the Rockburn Course Contact Billstream (http://www.the-alcoholic.com/images/the-alcoholic.jpg) had picked up some scorecards from the giggly ranger out front, and we resorted to doing the declasse' mini draw from a bag. Prior to that I presented Tom with his official Nomads polo prompting Billstream to declare:

That's nicer than the crap I sell.

We had a couple of newbies today that I didn't know, and naturally that caused trouble. After the draw the teams lined up as:

Hawk & George: ( The Nomads )
Ski & Dean: ( Skidipping )
Toad & Elliott: ( T3 )
Tom & Sean: ( The Other Nomads )
Boyd & Dan: ( The Enablers )
Karl: The Lone Ranger

It was explained to Karl that as the The Lone Ranger he had the choice of going out solo on his $4 entry and taking one throw per lie or paying $8 and getting two throws per lie. Karl opted to man up and go out solo. A fateful decision. We headed off for a round of fun from the <font color="red">reds. </font>

T3 plays a smooth front threeing everything. The Other Nomads have a slightly more difficult time taking fours on #'s 1 :o& 7. :( The Enablers also four #7. :( The Lone Ranger has the expected hard time taking fours on #'s 1, 2, 3, 7 and 9. The Nomads have their highlight of the round when I drive #6 rather poorly, but it's the better of the two and George converts a 40' downhill putt for the deuce. :) Skidipping deuce two :cool:on a parkjob by Ski, and then follow that up with a matching deuce on #6 off Ski's putt and drive. :) Then on #8 Dean drives down and left towards the basket, and then he throws in an 80'er for the deuce! :D :cool:I managed to put ours in from 70' out but that was for the three. :oScores on the front were:

Skidipping-24
The Nomads-26
T3-27
The Enablers-28
The Other Nomads-29
The Lone Ranger-32

Off to the back where a picnic is going on around the grill on #10. As the Enablers pass Boyd asks for and receives a free hot dog, but is denied mustard. He is offered salad dressing though which he declines. The Enablers then warm up deucing #'s 12 :) & 13. :D The Lone Ranger continues to tough it out taking fours on #'s 12, 13, 16 & 17. T3 also breakthrough on the back deucing #14. :cool:The Other Nomads copy The Enablers deucing #'s 12 & 13 but take a four on #16, :( but bounce back by deucing #17. :DThe Nomads manage to three their way around the back with the semi-obligatory four :( on #16. Playing okay with deuces bouncing off #10 (me) or through the chains on #15 (George) we however felt like we were playing awfully as we had to witness this show by Skidipping: On #10 Ski drives nearly even with the B pin which I believe is then converted by Dean for the deuce. :cool:On #12 Ski converts Dean's drive for the deuce. :) On #13 Ski tries to overshoot the basket but gets slowed down by some foliage and converts his dropin for another deuce. :cool:On #14 Ski lands 5' out for yet aother deuce. :DOn #15 one of them drives and one of them putts (maybe it was the same one things became a blur at this point) for their fifth deuce on the back. Finally on #17 Dean drives his Wraith (possibly the ugliest disc currently in use thanks to a Candyman dye job) to about 3' from the basket for Skidipping's sixth deuce on the back! Scores on the back were:

Skidipping-21 (45)
The Enablers-25 (53)
The Other Nomads-25 (54)
T3-26 (53)
The Nomads-28 (54)
The Lone Ranger- 31 (63)

The Current Nomad Doubles standings are:

Dean-9
George-7
Boyce-7
Keith-7
Hawk-6
The Anchor-5
Glen-5
Silverwolf-5
Ski-5
Ray-4
Wayne-3
Sean-3
Susi-2

We have a new leader!

The <font color="orange">Skipot </font> went unhit and now stands at $57.

After the round I was walking up the path from the restroom between # 3 and #4 when Karl told me he had been taking an extra throw once per hole. I informed Karl that was against the rules which were most recently detailed here (http://www.md-discgolf.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=802) on the minor league bored and I would have to DQ him for cheating. Upon arriving home I found this posted on the minor league bored by the aforementioned Karl:

Nomads=Unjust? hawk=god? These are my thoughts after I payed $4 and was forced to play by myself during nomad doubles because of an uneven amount of disc golfers. I feel that if you pay any money, no matter how much, you should get the same chance as anyone else to win. Doubles players during the round payed $4, and recieved a partner to help win that back... I payed $4 and had to play single golf all day. That being said, the single player should have some sort of an advantage [ie one extra throw per hole] as opposed to being screwed and not getting any extra shots . Basically when i got to the first hole i was told by my group BB/Dan that i could take an extra shot per hole becouse thats how its done everywhere but the Nomads/Hawk called me a cheater because i did so. F*** that. Great shooting Dean/TimSki -9 from red tees @ patapsco

Now I can cut Karl some slack for being an ignorant loser, and not the man Rhonda is, but I can't have Boyd and Dan encouraging players to violate the rules. Players show up and put their money up thinking that everyone is playing under the same preannounced rules. Karl clearly wasn't and it would have been interesting if he had shot the best score and then I paid him off not knowing what had gone on. Fortunately it seems likely that Karl won't be showing up again, so I don't think I'll have to figure out what to do with him. However at this time I am suspending Boyd and Dan from playing Nomad Doubles through September. This suspension may be pointless as of now I'm not sure if and how I will proceed as the integrity of the event has been breached. I'm sure we'll hear that it didn't matter as Karl wasn't a threat, but that's not the point. The rules are the rules, they are publicized, and everyone plays under the assumption that everyone is following them.

I will ponder what to do in the days ahead and announce my decision here.

As Boyd and Dan have received notification of their suspensions and as of now seem to be taking them like men (i.e. anally) we'll attempt to resume the journey. For the record Karl with a P is also suspended for the month of September. I would normally ban him for the rest of the season for such a blatant transgression of the explained rules, but since he was a rookie, and clearly an idiot, I'll limit it to just one month if he dares come back in October.

Speaking of the rules I'd like to point out that there was never this kind of problem prior to my seeking input from you the great unwashed. Therefore I am revamping the rules back to the original Patapsco Doubles. The new rules will be posted later. Learn them, live them, love them or leave.

Here's the schedule for September:

9-2-06: Rockburn-1100 hours. A Boyd free round at the teeless wonderland! Show up and possibly experience the awkward unpleasantness as Boyd shows up thinking I won't actually exclude him. Marvel at his shame as he's not allowed in the draw. Watch as he has to wait two hours for his ride to take him home.

9-9-06: Seneca-1630 hours. Note the late kick-off time. Another suspension stop as we go from the short tees sans Dan. If you missed the uncomfortableness of Boyd's banishment at his home course, revel in this potentially humiliating moment. Due to Dan's absence I will detail for members of my card the various rollers in my bag and the situations in which I utilize them at Seneca. Unlike the PDGA I won't in typical disc golf fashion fold under pressure. I could solve this whole Hammock issue in 30 seconds. ;)

9-16-06: Druid-1100 hours. An inner city quickie from the metals.

As so many of you are too stupid to actually read and retain the rules of how Nomad Doubles is run, I will now be verbally reviewing the Lone Ranger concept pre-draw, and the general rules prior to the issuance of scorecards. You will think during these dissertations,

I really miss the easy going demeanor and warm fuzziness of Sunday Swamp host Neil.

<font color="red"> NOMAD DOUBLES RULES </font>

<font color="blue"> Revised and Effective as of 9-2-06 </font>

1. It's $4 per player. No checks. No plastic. Winning team splits all the money. There is no payout for second place. Second place is for losers.
2. There is a $1 optional <font color="orange">Skipot.</font> If you pay a dollar that day and hit an ace you win the <font color="orange">Skipot. </font> If multiple players ace in a given round they split the <font color="orange">Skipot. </font> The <font color="orange">Skipot </font> is named after the first and only player to hit an ace during the existence of Patapsco/Nomad Doubles. You know that person as orange clad Timothy. (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/playerstats.php?PDGANum=24396) It shall be forever known as the <font color="orange">Skipot. </font> It's catchy.
3. Draw is conducted via the use of paired poker chips numbered sequentially. In the event of an odd number of participants the popular Lone Ranger chip will be added to the bag. Teams are determined as the two players holding #1 chips are a team, the players holding the #2 chips are a team etc. I will call for the teams in order, identifying the participants on scorecards and assigning holes. You will return the chips to me in an orderly manner during this process.
4. The Lone Ranger chip. If this is utilized due to the odd number of players the Lone Ranger has a choice to make:
Option 1-The Lone Ranger can pay an extra $4 for a total entry fee of $8 and gets two throws per lie.
Option 2-The Lone Ranger can sissy out and join the players with the highest numbered poker chips creating The Uber Team. This allows for the drawing of teams to be completely random with no subjectivity involved and allows cowardly losers from having to play alone. Remember it's all about fun! ;)
5. It's best disc. You and your partner(s) have to choose one lie and each throw from that location.
6. Ties for first place will be played off in a manner to be determined by me at the course.
7. Standings are determined by points won. Each member of the winning team earns one point for each team or Lone Ranger they beat. There are no points for second place. Second place is for losers. The points champion at the end of the season wins a Nomad Doubles polo. This should not be confused with the highly coveted Maryland Nomads polo. In the event of a points tie for first place in the standings at the end of the season there will be a special doubles session where the players tied will play off for the title.
8. Doubles rotate among courses and times of my choosing on Saturdays. Info will be posted here and on the front page of www.freestateflyers.com (http://www.freestateflyers.com) no later than noon Friday.
9. Anything not covered here, or comes up during an event will be decided by me. Remember:

even though i was originally against the uberteam, i think you are making the right call. it is more fair to the average joe who comes out and gets stuck as the lone ranger. and less confusing for old farts like me...

Well there's that and the fact that you play it regularly at Rockburn on Wednesday's you hypocrite. The Uber Team is such a brilliant idea, Ox stole it.

He probably fails to grasp that the Lone Ranger still exists. All of you fail to grasp that you losers voted on the concept. I am merely resurrecting my iron fisted control of the rules and going right back to where I was in the first place.

<font color="green"> It's A Rainy Round in Rockburn's Ruts. </font>

<font color="blue"> Six Brave Souls Play Disc in the Mist. </font>

Some of the regulars coupled with two newbies went out this morning to try to grip and rip plastic. Joining the usual suspects were the Stiles boys: father Mark and son Dan. Boyd drove by, observed the activity and slinked away costing me the opportunity to detail the Lone Ranger rules. Hands went into the bag and the teams were:

George &amp; Rich: The Nomads
Dan &amp; Hawk: Spidermen
Mark &amp; Glen: M &amp; N

Off we went to #1 to play some herd doubles.

The Spidermen openly poorly taking a four when we both turn our drivers over into unintended rollers. On #2 the following exchange occurred.

George: Where do I tee off from?
Rich: Where the crush rut ends.
G: That's way past the marker.
R: Ummm...well that's how we do it here.
Hawk: In another couple of years you'll be using a putter on this hole.

M &amp; N bust through deucing #3 off of Glen's drive. They are matched by The Nomads. On #4 it's more of the same as M &amp; N and The Nomads both card deuces again. Things are quite until #8 when the Spidermen botch my reasonable drive to take a four, but are matched by The Nomads with their first four of the day. The Nomads rally though on #9 long. George rips his patented forehand down the left hand alley and the disc lands across the creek and skips towards the basket! George converts the easy putt for the deuce, while Spidermen and M &amp; N both take disappointing fours. Scores on the front:

The Nomads: 25
M &amp; N: 26
Spidermen: 30

Can Glen be thwarted like at Pine Grove, or will The Anchor sink his partner again?

On #10 Spidermen and M &amp; N fall further behind taking fours to The Nomads three. On #11 The Nomads deuce to the other teams threes. On #12 The Nomads stumble taking a four, as do the Spidermen. On #13 the Spidermen finally deuce when I manage to convert my Shark drive, while M &amp; N convert Glen's K.C. Aviar drive for a matching deuce. On #14 The Nomads drive themselves in line with the basket, but on the wrong side of the house. They attempt the hyzer route, but end up behind/in a bush. Rich rolls out past the basket, and both Nomads miss the comebacker four attempt. They end up taking the first five of the round, while Spidermen do one better with a four. On #15 Spidermen deuce as Dan converts my drive, while M &amp; N again match us. Finally at #18 long Spidermen take the second five of the round, while The Nomads earn a four. Scores on the back were:

M &amp; N: 26 (52)
Spidermen: 29 (59)
The Nomads: 30 (55)

Glen narrows the gap with Dean, and George is unable to carry Rich on the back nine costing him a chance to tie Dean for the standings lead. Dan was thrilled when he realized that the Spider he was using used to belong to me. Imagine getting to meet the International Disc Golf Celebrity whose name is inside you disc.

The Current Nomad Doubles standings are:

Dean-9
Boyce-7
George-7
Glen-7
Keith-7
Hawk-6
Silverwolf-5
Ski-5
The Anchor-5
Ray-4
Sean-3
Wayne-3
Mark-2
Susi-2

The <font color="orange">Skipot </font> went unhit and now stands at an even 60 bucks.

Next Saturday is another afternoon round at Seneca, but from the short tees this time. Kick-off will be 1630.
