A tornado touched down at Harris Lake Park. The park is closed currently for clean up.
Did the course get damaged?

A friend emailed someone over there today and this is what he got in response.
"Bryan,
According to the National Weather Service it may have severe thunderstorms
with straight line winds that caused the damage in the park. The park
remains closed for clean up. The disc golf course did receive some damage
but we have not had time to do a complete assessment. We are concentrating
on the high use areas of the park first. Most likely, the disc course will
be closed for the remainder of the week if not longer.

Scott Anderson reported at the RADL meeting that park is closed and many trees are down. They did not know if anything on the course was damaged, but they said there was a lot of trees down on hole 1 when they went back there.
We are scheduling a work day in the near future (I know when, I just don't want to post until it is a rock solid date).
aww, man. that blows.
no pun intended.
6/15/06 UPDATE -Parks and Rec made a field survey of the course. The good news is that no baskets were damaged!! The bad news is that the course is littered with downed trees and limbs. There was not one fairway that he could walk down without having to climb over a tree. It was reported that 9, 10, and 11’s baskets were under water (I’m having a hard time seeing 10 under water but…) and the cove between 9 & 10 is full of water covering the newly installed, gorgeous foot bridge.
The plan for now is an outside contractor will be hired to cut/clean the leaning trees and tall hanging branches as Parks and Rec will be working on cutting the trees that are on the ground. RADL work days will be scheduled to help in the clean up efforts, just stay posted.
The disc golf course is closed and will probably be closed for around two weeks or more.

My friends and I were out at Harris Lake fishing the Monday after the storm and man was it bad! I had never seen the water that high. We decided to troll the boat up to where the cove of 8-11 was and a couple of baskets (not just the poles)were touching water!! The following Saturday we went back and the water had gone down about a foot.

There will be a Buckhorn workday this Saturday starting at 9:00 am to try to remove the debris that the parks have cut up for us.
If you can not make the work day but would like to help out contact Scott Anderson for guidance in what areas need attention.

I was out at the course this morning, and was glad to find that the damage isn't too bad. There is still some more chainsaw work to do, and debris to be cleared, though, so if you can get down there it would really help. Contact Scott Anderson to find out what to work on.

I called the park this morning and got a recording saying that the penninsula trails were closed but that "all other" parts of the park were now open.
Does anyone know if the course is open, or whether it is considered part of the penninsula trails.
I was playing in the NC State games and thus couldn't make the work day, but I'd like to thank everyone who has worked/is working on the course to get it back open. I benefit from your labor, and I'll gladly buy you a beer (or whatever) next time I see you to express my appreciation.
