Does anyone know what they are considering pro par at Timber Ridge? I was there Friday and the new score cards were marked as par 66. the Yellow scorecards were 63. Looks like they made holes 1,15,18 par 4s. Does anyone know what the hot singles round is out there yet?

Al Schack 54
LL 58
Official (League round):
Someone? 59
Come try for the official course record at the Sasquatch Open
PRO PAR is 66
AM from long tees 77
I don't know what "official" AM par is because TR now has short tees.

I thought Al's 54 was in a doubles round....

Al's doubles round with Chris was a 56, they beat Chas and I by 1. Unless there was another one that I am unaware of?

I got a peek into the players packs for the Tourny they are FAT. I had to ask Larry if he knew it was a c-tier event. He acknowledged he did, he just has some great sponsors and treats his players well.
Anyway come play TR and get a great day of premiere disc golf, a taste for a worlds caliber course, and some soreness that will take a few days to recover from, as well as players packs that include a Star Tee-Rex and another disc.
When you come out to practice be prepared to play the shorts. The format has not been finalized but there may be a short round and a long round.....well except the big arm pros of course.
*We have moved Saturday July 15th's 4:20 doubles to Friday the 14th at 6:20

Shot a 63 at TR last night. 31 on the Front, 32 on the back that included a field ace for 3 on Hole #17.
I have a 3 on hole #10 also....I'm pretty sure its the only 3 there so far. Anyone know?

Any of you eastside Michigan players coming over for this? If you regularly play in a metro park, that means I'm talking to you. Come check out something that is lacking on your side of the State....Elevation .
I will be at the Sasquatch Open...If you aren't there, I'll assume you are just too afraid. Come play tournament rounds on one of Michigan's top 5 courses: Timber Ridge!

its a bummer this is the same weekend as the hambrick, im sure more people would show if It didnt coincide with the BHMO

There are plenty of players to fill this and the Hambrick. Michigan has over 400 rated PDGA members. Indiana has another 150. You just gotta get the word out if it is unsanctioned. I've heard that Coldbrook sometimes has 100 players for league. That's enough for any one-day tournament!
This is funny: Illinois has less than 300 rated PDGA members, but the first three Illinois Open Series events are averaging over 200 players per event. Every tournament is like a big family reunion! :D
IOS #3 was the same weekend as the DGLO. We had 210 players and turned away ten or so. The DGLO filled on the am side. There are plenty of players for good tournaments.

It looks like I will be able to make this tournament after all. Thats sweet to hear the players packs are good. I need some new discs, seems I lose one on #16 everytime I am there /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Why is it that so many show up for the IOS series? I think that Michigan gets watered down 50 person tournaments because we have too many. They should have a cap on the # of tournaments that can be hosted in a state.

We get so many players because we run good tournaments for ams. That's all there is to it. The guy running tournaments in the Chicago area before us ran crappy tournaments for ams and got crappy attendance. Anyone in Michigan could do what we do or do what he used to do.
If you pay your ams 150% you still have 25% left over to cover expenses. If you pay your ams 100%, why shouldn't they just spend their money at the liquor store that sells discs? The liquor store pays 100% also.
I used to think Michigan was cutting the pie too many ways but now I think the problem is that too many Michigan TDs are skimping on the filling. If a Michigan TD were to decide to follow our recipe, he'd have 200 players at every event also. It would take him a year or two to build the rep, but he could do what we do easy. Michigan has twice as many PDGA members and five times as many players as Illinois. There is no shortage of players. There's a shortage of TDs and players who can figure it out.
I see Michigan TDs advertising 100% payout to ams as if that's something. Those guys are taking 50% of the am entry fees for expenses. Nobody has that kind of expenses unless they are running tournaments on golf courses. When I only paid 100% at Byron, it was because I was paying the course $10 per player for greens fees. Any TD only paying the ams 100% must be making $10 per player, because 100% left me with $10 per player for greens fees.
Of all the TDs in Michigan, I think Larry LaBond does the best job, so this falling on a thread about his tournament is just a bad coincidence. Larry and Scott both are fair with all their players. The Northern Waters guys are usually generous also, but I haven't taken the trip recently. If you are not driving to Columbus or Peoria that weekend, play Larry's tournament.
But I played a tournament not too long ago in Michigan where they paid every division 100%. They had no expenses: no PDGA fees, no course use fee, no pavillion rental, no porta-potty rental, nothing. They did cheap trophies too. They did a TD Special through Discraft and just kept the bonus stuff for themselves. They kept 1/2 the am entry fees for themselves. They really just used the tournament as a way to stock their store at good prices. I like the disc golfer who was helping out and i'm going to have to assume that they keep him in the dark on the financials. He's not a scam artist. But the tournament was a scam. It's no wonder it was lightly attended. I could have bought my discs at the liquor store and played the course for free the next day.
I've run on for a bit but let me emphasize that the number of tournaments is not the problem. We often have another tournament 50 to 100 miles away in Wisconsin or Indiana. I used to worry about those tournaments. Now we just crush them. We had 200+ players at IOS #1 and the Wisconsin tournament 90 miles away had 57. For IOS # 2, same deal, but they have not posted results so I'm going on hearsay. For IOS #3, we had players from the Iowa border towns, and we had three times as many players as the Iowa tournament.
If anyone from Michigan wants to learn how to run these kinds of tournaments, I'd be happy to sit down with them and teach them how. If anyone in the country wants to learn how to run these kinds of tournaments, we have a system. We are doing this intentionally. Anyone can learn our system.

First I would like to thank Bruce for helping out at the Northern waters disc golf series #4. We were short handed for the tourney, so your help (Bruce and Kesley) was Greatly appreciated! Thanks a bunch.
What was your opinion on the tournament Bruce? I finished the TD report and we ended up paying out 153% to Ams counting payouts and players packs. We also paid more than 100% to open divisions because we gave them players packs as well.
I would like to learn your system. Would you be interested in sending me one or more of your TD reports from the IOS for me to compare to the NWS reports to see where we may be able to improve.
I would love to see 100+ players at all of our events. Let me know if you can help. Thanks again for your help this weekend.

Good tournament.
I was commenting to Kelsey on the way home that your am payouts seemed fair and generous, but it was hard to know because I did not see them posted. Posting payouts is part of our system; we don't do it merely because it is required by the sanctioning agreement. When you have good payouts you need to blow your own horn. And a lot of players like to see them posted.
I liked the cheap lunch option. We may borrow that from you. I like that you got scores up right away here on pdga.com. A lot of players like that, not just me. A lot of TDs in this region drop the ball on that.
And we were glad to help. We are used to helping a little on the day we play and a lot on the day we don't play, because that is what we do at all my brother's tournaments.
I'll send you our system. I think you could build your tournaments up to 150 players easily. I think you already have the right philosophical base. Whether you can go pro and keep it, I don't know. Don't go pro before K'zoo Worlds.

There needs to be some players at this event...this course is SICK!! Easily one of the best in the State...and you know Larry will be putting on a good event as always.

Larry Labond took 1st in Open with a pair of 59's. I believe Geoff Bennet was second or third shooting 63-59. I won Advanced with a 63-65 in a 1 stroke narrow win over Jeff Keuhle.
