View Full Version : What Would You Do?

You go to your local disc golf course and see that a flyer has been posted promoting an upcoming PDGA tournament.
You have prior knowledge that the posting of flyers at city parks is not allowed. You also know that less than a year ago the baskets at this city park were pulled due to numerous other disallowed actions performed by disc golfers.
You suspect that this flyer- put up with the best of intentions- was not approved by the city. You are concerned that this seemingly insignificant infraction could jeopardize the already tenuous relationship between the city and the area's many disc golfers.

I believe the flyer was taken down on March 12. It was a non-issue then.
Bailey brought it up on the board a few days later, and then he started beating a dead horse with a later post.
I'm not going to sit by and let anyone take pot-shots at the city, or anyone who advocates for compliance.

You know there are alot of "OTHER" things going on at that park that no one seems to pay any attention too.My vote would be to take it down until you've gotten permission from "WHOEVER" to post flyers. Now we all know that those flyers "ARE" pretty important to introduce people to our sport.Looks like the whole WAFDA thing needs to get put on the agenda. We are waiting for the NW reps to step forward. And by the way,THEy"re are so many other things to discuss /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Of the the four awaiting confirmation of their place on the waiting list; Denny has his kids this weekend, Barney has to work, Buck is in San Antonio, and then there is Colin. :D I think he wants to go. The rest of us will be working here tomorrow. After this tournament, I will be driving to Tulsa as much as I can to volunteer, and will be looking for carpoolers. I noticed a lot of people wanting to go April 15th...so, while you're there Keldog, let them know the rest of us are on our way! Team Donkey Rules http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/images/icons/exclamation.gif

Ganzel, you are such a maroon.
Tulsa does things the right way. They get permission before they start indiscriminately carving up trees with a chainsaw, breaking branches, painting trees blue, and carving drainage canals into the ground.
I wonder if you will ever get it.
See ya' at the mini today. :)

NO Chainsaws in Fayetteville!!!!! NO Flyers in Fayetteville!!!What about Golfers? And WAFDA Members? And how about we bring all the above to Alma sometime soon and get the course ready for June 24th.You can take out all that aggression on cutting down as many as you'd like /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gifI was gonna put a few in the open areas on the spillway but have changed my mind.3 more are to be tucked into the woods. So I have 4 new holes cleared with 3 more to do.BUTT! Those 3 more aren't gonna be so hard. One of them is gonna be over the lakes edge. The second short with NOTHING cleared(Widow Maker)The 3rd will be LONG AS HECK and need lots of clearing. So now 11 of 18 will be in the woods. The bluff holes will stay. Those will never go away.SO Wanna do some damage anyone?(Get WAFDA with your city board and hopefully we can do the same there)WAFDA! WAFDA! WAFDA!:cool::cool:

I was going to wait until my book gets published before I start calling people names. While I may be a maroon...I have done everything I can to establish a positive communication with the city and build a disc golf club. Actions do speak louder than words....I have learned that in the past few years. If it offers you any solace, I had no prior knowledge of painting, breaking, or chainsawing of trees...I was an advocate of the city ordinance at that time, and still am, even though I was threatened with jail time because of those actions. The "canals", I am sure now, were another hasty mistake made by someone who misunderstood the city's intentions. To make the course "playable" was the permission originally given to myself and the other golfers in contact with the city at the time of Nortshore's birth. 20'x 20' foot-deep ponds are not playable. However, the city, with no prior knowledge of what disc golf is, let alone what a disc golf course needs to be safe and desirable...is continually learning, much like we are, to communicate in a positive, proactive manner to achieve what is best for both golfers and the community. :D Being professional , well informed, and positive seem to be traits of a successful business, our organization is doing the same, and sure enough, the city and surrounding communities are listening. The Northwest Arkansas DGA is growing and becoming stronger, and for the first time since i have been in this beautiful area, not been dependant on one person. The club is finally a club, anyone can show up at a meeting and see that. More and more club benefits are becoming evidence of this, such as our First sanctioned singles tournament. So,
Jeff "just tell'em I did it" Ash, before we start pointing fingers or embarrassing ourselves for that matter ...let's remember that- what is in the past, is in the past... I look forward to tomorrow, as does every supporter of the Northwest Arkansas Disc Golf Association. :D
