While I'm at it, I'd like to see all league play be live for tags. To enforce all MINI'S be Tag Matches, I propose that only Tag Holders be eligible for ACE POTS, all tags show up always! and in the event someone conveniently misplaces theirs or leaves it at home-an extra $5.
That being said, Tags would need to be available to players not desiring of club membership at a lesser price than the $20 membership fee.

Ganzel sent me a pm and instead or replying i am going to post it instead of having any drama.

Well I realize that the club has made a few steps. Very few i might add. The club doesn't utilize its potential. I will be helping out a lot less this upcoming year. I don't have or want to invest the time in a club that is only going to be as good as its leaders. I am not sure i will be a club member next year. However i will probably play in the minis. If yall change the fact that you have to be a tag holder to play in the minis, this club will run straight into the ground and i won't be a part of the minis. (I can probably speak for a lot of other people in this situation also) We already have a whopping 5 club member at each mini we really don't want to draw any other people in. I will not be taking any money in the minis. At the point in time where i stated that i would like to take the money in the minis and help you out i really expected that i would get all of the club stuff in a reasonable amount of time. There are to many decisions that are made in this club that are not really decided upon. The more and more i try to help in this club the more i along with many other people get put down. The biggest part of this is that if someone doesn't agree with the majority of the club they are atomatically ridiculed because of their ideas. In the time i have been playing disc golf i have only seen maybe a handful of new mambers play in the minis. That really doesn't seem very successful. In my mind if we can't get people out to play minis what is the point in having a club. Just my .02.

I wrote Barney in response to his youthfully ignorant negative retort concerning uniting the state ( i also pm'ed darrell expressing my feelings that fighting fire with fire will only burn down the house).....my message to you Barney was simple enough....all in good time....our club has not set uniting the state as one of its' goals.....it may at some point when priority dictates....until then, perhaps you will be better off imitating a college student by "listening" followed by "learning"....and continue to offer ideas that may improve disc golf in our community in a positive fashion.

why are we putting this on the board anyway. All of this should be kept in Private. Besides Barney you are an active member of this club. Elections are one month if you don't like what is happening within the club or the way things are run. Run for the board or vote your mind and who you think will make a difference. Personally I don't think the Mini's should be limited to just tag members either. It should be open to everyone to get new people involved and meeting the more experienced players

Im not a club member therefore my opinion may or may not be relevant....
I have heard nothing about having minis club member only but if I may I would like to speak as someone who lives in another state, but still considers Fayetteville one of my homes and if you dont believe me or my love for the sport, ask the other 3 who braved the rain and cold just to hang out with old friends and play (though maybe not stellar but that matters not). Very few of you will remember me from the VERY FIRST mini at Gulley Park in August of 2001, Jimmy Glenn and I tied for first with Jon Shaddox and Tommy Eddy. Basically every mini I could make since then including EVERY time I come back to NWA including on a frigid, windy, rainy sunday where I couldnt even get in the ace fund. That is VERY inclusive and will not contribute to getting any more members, especially for such a small club, it would be different if it were a larger club and a large tournament.
I lived in St. Louis for almost two years and participated in many tournaments (many PDGA before even becoming a member unfortunately...) and in two organized weekly leagues where you have the same partner for the 8is week league so you had a commitment to your partner every week. There were also nightly leagues at different courses and at both you WERE NOT required to be a member of the River City Flyers (although I was and still am because I get down there more than twice a year).
I dont want to sound negative and again Im not a voting member, but as one of the longest committed golfers from NWA, I dont see much progress coming from excluding non-members from "casual minis" UNLESS you have a consistent commitment from members to participate regularly. I would be quite offended if I showed up to Fayetteville or St. Louis where I contributed MUCH energy and sweat prior to tournaments improving courses, and I was told I couldnt participate in one of the "casual" leagues (keep in mind different than the non-casual 8-9 week leagues they have, however you can show up to the pre-reged leauges and if someone's partner didn't show you are, depending on the person, more than welcome to play and to get in the ace fund)...
Again, I don't have any enemies in NWA or anywhere else for that matter and have not been asked about this, so if someone feels Im out of line, I apologize, but from an outsider that most of you know, I hope this has some relevance to whats going on..

You are right on target with your thoughts.

On a side note, if the ace pots are going to be members only, then a new one needs to be started. Many non-members contributed to the current ace pots and it would be wrong to exclude them from ace pots that they paid into.

I contributed to the ace fund for many years, never won it, I have unluckily had aces prior to the mini and after, we all have...in fact, I aced hole 11 (B placement) 5 minutes prior to a Jefferson Barracks league in 05 when our group was headed towards our startin hole :D that during the round would have won I think $300 or so...oh well, you can never dis-credit a beautiful shot....
But, I know the pots/funds turn over everytime someone hits it but you shouldn't be so inclusive, it sends the wrong signal even though the good of the club is the focus, there are other ways of doing it...

Wow, and we haven't even discussed these ideas in a club meeting yet....the input is greatly appreciated. Dave McCormack made a post about what they do in the big city that grew their club membership from thirty to three hundred. The ideas presented so far are:
1) keep it the same $1 to the ace pot, $1 to the club, $3 to
payout
2) include tags into the saturday mini...if you don't have a tag
you can still play for the normal rate, and can buy a tag, or
pay a few dollars more and become a member of the club
and get a t-shirt and free movie rental
3) if tags are included in the saturday mini and you already own
a tag, you must play for tags....the "oh, i forgot my tag"
excuse should not be permitted as this devalues the
integrity of the tag system and is disrespectful to other
players expecting to get a chance to play for tags...the
idea of charging players who have bought a tag and "left
them at home" an extra fee has been suggested
4) require people to be a club member to to be eligible for the
ace pot
5) dicuss other options in the meeting and do more
research as to what has worked in other states before
making a decision

Now... From all the meetings i've been to(all of them)and according to the minutes from the meetings we have never said that you need to be a tag holder to play in a mini. I posted an idea, not mine, and suggested we, as a club, consider adapting this idea, for our club. I still strongly believe that a club, even in it's infancy, has a better chance of promoting the sport of disc golf than any one individual. If that is indeed true, then the club would be obligated to raise monies for the purpose of promoting as well as it would be obligated to those who participated in raising the money by providing incentives. Please re-read all posts on this subject. All input will be considered before the club votes to incorporate any new or different guidelines. The following post obtained from the EQUIPMENT thread was where I got the idea.I still believe that the ace pot should be for TAG HOLDERS not only club members, with the price of just a tag at 5-10bucks-----a one time YEARLY purchase.You wouldn't expect to play for the ACE POT for free! I view it as a courtesy to all the regulars (members and non) who show up frequently to build the pot in the first place. CHAD-did you purchase a bag tag last year? If you did, you are a club member. If not, I, who want to consider myself a disc golf promoter some day, offer to buy you a bag tag. I as well as a number of others, look forward to you joining us as often as you can make it to the area. It was a blast seeing you bust your dirve down #7's gut Sunday!

Most important - these are my views only! Yes, I get to vote on the matter if the club should decide that it is an issue worthy of consideration, and I consider the ability to vote on club issues the single most valuable incentive (and obligation) of membership.

BTW-The Club has already decided that membership($20) includes a bag tag and bag tag tournament entry fee (which has included lunch, CTP's, prizes), A club designed T-shirt, A blockbuster video rental. That seems like quite a deal to me!
Club members have the privelege of bundled PDGA membership dues- a $5 yearly savings and most importantly, the ability to VOTE on club issues and hopefully the power of a group to PROMOTE the common interest we share!

We ( the river city flyers St Louis Disc Golf Club) are on our 7th year of tags, and we have learned a lot from our mistakes. It is never perfect but what we do now is by far the best it has been.

Bag tags are a way to show you are a current member of our club and come with the club membership. ( along with a disc) for $20 a year. You also have to be a club member to be eligible for ace pool.
We allow any player that has never been a club member to sign up for the club and play in the event. this is a one time only thing and works well.
A guy can play in the event for $15 or join the club for $20 and get a disc and tag, its a no brainer.
we exclude their entry fee from the payout that day!


In order to keep players from getting a really good tag and then leaving it at home( convieniantly), you have to have your tag in order to be eligible for ace pool. If you dont have it with you, then you have to pay $5 for another one or miss the chance for ace pool.

I would strongly suggest including bag tags with club memberships and not seperating them.

I have seen a trend in cities that do not include bag tags with the membership.
The trend is decension and lots of controversy.
The best way to run a bag tag is if EVERYONE in the club has them. Anything short of this and its like segragation, it didnt work for schools and doesnt work that well for bag tags.



We have our club championships in mid october and thats when you get your new tag for the up coming season.
We all throw in our tags from the current year and they are given out according to what place you finish along with your new tag to start the season.

The bag tag is one of the single biggest reason our club went from 40 in 2000 to near 300 in 2006.
We will easily get to over 400 this year and maybe 500 ( we plan on several membership drives early in the season)!

I am really questioning why all are even listing to me anyway. I am not a current club member. I would like to express my concern. The club has driven me along with many other people away from the club that would be willing to, and already have helped the most. I don't think that is what yall are going for. If yall can't keep club members renewing memberships, i would think that it would be almost impossible to get new members. What i have posted earlier must have sparked some attention or we wouldn't have any of this controversy. If it were to be completly false no one would have questioned it. I have also been to the last 3-4 meetings. They are a giant waste of time. We go into them not knowing anything and come out even knowing less. Most VIP are late and unprepared, however we argue about 1 thing for a couple of hours and may get that accomplished. The rest of the time at the meeting is blown off by telling jokes and whatnot. I also don't understand why we got 100 tags and 100 shirts(That is what i have heard we got). We had around 35 club members last year! Almost all of what i have said in the previous couple of posts has been said by other club members also so maybe someone else can pull their head out and man up.
