We've got an ongoing problem that is causing us great difficulties with our relationships with area Parks Departments. It's the public display of illegal alcohol consumption at RADL and PDGA events.
It's been an issue since the mid 1980s. Recently, we've heard from several Parks Departments about the very obvious consumption of alcohol at area events. Sure we try to hide it, by using cups and towels, but most folks can see through that AND after the event is over the trash cans tell a telling tale. Being discreet is no longer enough! We've got to refrain, from this point forward, from doing it at all.
What else is new you may say? Well now, they want to start passing out tickets at events (with plain clothes cops), they want to cruise through the parking lot and come tell us whom to DQ, and they’re starting to grumble some about continuing to let us host events in public parks. In some extreme cases they’re even mentioning the possibility of pulling certain disc golf courses. We’ve even seen this before…remember what happened at Wellspring in Burlington?
No one wants to play the heavy, but we’re being forced to start aggressively enforcing the PDGA’s illegal consumption rule (804.05 A (4))
This means that we'll be looking to DQ folks at future RADL events. Summer doubles, monthlies and PDGA included. Don't force us to make an example out of you! Save the beer, wine and liquor for after you leave our parks, please. It's not that difficult to do! It will really help our reputation and standing within all of our local communities. This is an important building block for getting future courses. Disc golf has a shady enough reputation as it is, let's not make it worse OR prove our critics right.
Please be part of the solution and not part of the problem.
