Sorry, I can't make it and that will be another major work weekend in Tulsa for the locals. We will be pouring tee pads that Friday and planting baskets and tee signs over the weekend. We need to keep the pace up until around the 15th of April in order to have the courses finished and ready for play.

So?.....When do the invitations go out?
Will old men get preferred "up close" parking?
Will there be free Peguin Ed's for lunch? :)
Will there be scuba gear available?
What about scores?....How long will Boobs have to wait after the tournament for scores to be posted? /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
How many chickens is this going to cost me? ;)

One Round??? Why?
ganzel
Mar 09 2006, 06:59 PM
There will be FREE lunch provided for at least 75 people, thanks to one of our own who happens to cater. It's more than one round, it will be one round and a safari final nine. This is because it will be fun and less time consuming for any out of towners fortunate enough to attend. More answers coming up after we take a short break to thank our sponsors. :D By the way, Hooters just sponsored $250, (vip party- all you can eat wings and soda).

Hey Ganzel, see if you can get a few more sanctioned tounamnets scheduled while we're over here working on courses. With only giving 23 days notice on this one, you should be able to hold one a month at that rate. Oh, and don't worry about anything else going on in the disc community in surrounding areas. Thanks for thinking of us.
Tulsa has always supported Fayetteville, any time you guys had an event we make sure our local schedule is clear so that we can ecourage players to head your direction and support your event, that is when we have had proper notice. Well its now obvious that it only goes one way. :(
Thanks Ganzel, at least now we know where we stand with you.

Please sir, I beg for your mercy, I had no idea such support would flow from someone that so many look up to. Way to be positive Dave. I tend to agree. From what I see on the TDSA web page, it does not show April 1st as a work day........I'll probably stay here and work anyway but I would not blame the Arky boys for doing what they want to do. I think one day tournaments are cool and I'm ticked-off that I missed BG and will miss Northshore. Hopefully these one day tourneys will be around next year so I can partake in them. I think Wise is starting to feel the pressure of all the things that still need to be done and somedays he wakes up on the rag. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif...He just wants to get the crap done so we can all start enjoying these new courses as soon as possible.
If there's any blame to place I would place it on the TDSA members over here that never show up for work days in the first place. :(.....To them it does really matter whether there's an event going on or not. They just don't give a crap. I see them cashing at all the events but I never see them show up when there's work to be done. :p

Sorry, just the way it is. How would you react to a tournament being dropped on you with 23 days notice, when you have major work scheduled and no one bothered to even look to see what else is going on in the region.
Over here we schedule our whole next year by the end of november the previous year an we ask other clubs what they have so we don't double book, if we can help it.

All I know is that the Old Regime or old club administrators actually took the time to consider all things going on in the area and we had a great working relationship with them. We checked with them and they checked with us. Just a courtesy thing, that’s all. You know, we'll watch out for you and you watch out for us.
Well I guess that tradition died with the old regime, :(
at least they still support us and come over to help.

Ganzel means very well for us, sometimes one has to chose the promotion of the sport for the local area and be selfish for the locals gain, unfortunately NWADGA is not as organized as the TDSA, but all these steps are in the right direction, and will one day be perfected, let's look at the positive side of this, Northshore first offcial Singles Pdga event, that's great. I am not one to jump at the opportunity to defend Ganzel ;), but I think he is trying to help and is helping, it's just going to take time to perfect the process. It's going to be alright, and Dave we all have great respect for you and Tulsa, so just relax Dady O, we are always thinking of you :p :D

I don't think Kelly Ganzel was in the wrong here. A good club takes care of "their" locals, if they want to run a tournament on one of our work weekends I'm fine with that. The TDSA has a big enough member base to get the job done. Only trick is getting EVERYBODY to help out.

I know a few of the local ladies that I play with will be there. They are looking forward to it too. I do not think any of them have played in a tournament.
I would like to see some ladies from out of town come.
Any ladies in Fort Smith that play? It would be a good tournamnet for them to play at. We have new ladies playing.

There is a reason for the City's policy.
Did anyone ask for a waiver, or permission specifically for this event?
When I saw the sign up at the park I asked if anyone had permission to put it there. When I found out that it was put up without permission, and against P&R policy I offered to take it down until y'all could see if it was OK.
That is called being proactive.

Well, waiting to hear back from Mr.Orum, we should be a Southern Nationals qualifier soon. Just got an email from Timmy Gill, our logo will be up later this week, and when we send in the footage, our tourny will be seen by thousands!!! on Disc Golf TV! :D Oh yeah....the plastic is in! Instead of buying a whole bunch of stuff to give away...I put all the money from the club on a bid for this year's one and only Clear Roc...so, uh...anyone want to buy a roc!? Or maybe this One division, One roc... no guts, no glory, right?
Seriously, Let's have a club meeting this week (before saturday) needs to be in th PM (6 or so) Thursday? I don't know if anyone had permission to put up the BG Blowout flyer, or not. I never saw that flyer.
Who put it up? When?
I told Ganzel on January 26 that the city doesn't allow the posting of flyers at any city parks.
He was trying to help promote Chris Himing's visit to town.
Best of intentions- but not allowed.
Just because nobody complains about something that disc golfers do that is a violation of parks and rec policy doesn't mean it's OK.
I was told "No Flyers". I saw a flyer. If I had ignored it I'd be letting you guys do something that could jeopardize the course, and or the club.
As far as your "What post?" question-
You are the one complaining about having to take it down. That was an issue between Ganzel and I- and Ganzel and I handled it.
You want to air it out on the board and question the city's policy- and then accuse them of selective enforcement- that's your perogative.
This is no place to display your negative attitude toward the city. Keep it to PM's, phone calls, e-mails, and Club meetings. That will be in everyone's best interest.

Mar 22 2006, 06:28 PM
You want something to snack on, try this...
So with a week left before our first tournament that I happen to support and volunteered to direct, I would like to make public that I am the one who put up our flyer and am the one who took it down....it is a city policy that no flyers are posted at a public park...I made a mistake by forgetting that when i put it up, and when I was reminded of this city ordinance by a very responsible and disc golf minded individual, I corrected that mistake. I opine- The fear of persecution should not be what motivates us to instill new laws, but more, we make laws to guide our peaceful coexistence with so many different minded folk. Either way, we can work on changing the city's mind about this issue some other day (if you all don't- mind :D), and, for now, what we can do, is make this tournament the best possible. To inspire all of you in such an endeavor, there are now eighteen separate sponsors with a few more still pensive. Free lunch to those that make it, free water and Gatorade for those that can brave it, and some free plastic for those that want it. The safari nine is still being discussed, we need butt cans, we need someone to pick up the cones from the city, Meek's has donated a wheelbarrow which we can use to distribute the wood chips currently sunbathing at the park, there are a few branches to remove from fairways, and I am still looking for a vehicle to shuttle to and fro. There are still a few spots left on the pre-register list also. I will be calling Dave Wright in the morn to ask for the use of vehicles in the park (one: for moving chips, two: to put out tee signs, etc. the day of) and it would seem kosher, as it has been proven in the past, to have the city's approval of all of our activities so that one day we may prove ourselves as competent individuals capable of organizing a public event that enriches the community, and perhaps, one day, they may even offer their trust to our organization, that we are a reliable and intelligent source of disc golf knowledge, and resources, currently planning for the future growth of our beloved sport. :D

If anyone needs a place to stay for the tourney this saturday, let me know....PM me or call me @ (228) 424-7721. I have a futon and an extra matress in the spare bed room/disc golf shrine room. I can accomodate 2-3 people, comfortably. My house is only like 2 minutes from the course. Peace.

Congrats guys on the tournament. I would love to make it, maybe next year. Ive been playing more than ever up here in IL (even though our course here SUCKS). Just got back from a disc golf road trip to Florida. We played all around Central and Southern Florida. Clearwater was beautiful and the Gran Canyon in Brooksville was incredible, talk about intense golfing...Best of luck to you guys with your plans....
See you this summer..

Thanks, Chad, I'll pass on the good word. Furdog....Only if they have a shirt on.....PDGA rules you know....Though I'm sure you can find plenty of chickens when you get here! :D
To fill everyone in, publicly, and positively, Watson, Buck, and I put out some woodchips in the low areas yesterday. Pitch and Darrell have gathered up enough butt cans to help keep the course clean, and we have permission for the entire final nine! Anyone know where to find straw bales?

I know in Alma the farm supply (feed) stores usually carry straw. I'm not sure though at this time of the year. End of the season and before new straw is cut. Worth checking out though.
Hey you might even try the cattle sale barn in Springdale. I know they have hay they throw to cows if you want them too, they might have some old bales lying around.

As it turns out, their's a shortage of straw bales in NW Arkansas, It appears that an eccentric sheep "herder" from
the Tulsa region has bought all that was left from the last harvest, he told the local co-ops that he liked his sheep to be real big and then mumbled under his breath something about cushion for the pushin :o:D

Way to go TD. This was hands down the Best Attended, Best Organized, and well let's just say it--This is the best sanctioned event I have ever been to in Fayetteville. :)
Seriously, another big round of applause for the volunteers that helped get the course in the best shape it has been in. Also for all of the "Staff"-- Bailey, Chuck, Joe, Chef James, Super Dave and Rachael(?) and our virginTD-Kelly Ganzel. You guys did a tremendous job with the everything from the registration through the turnaround between rounds all the way to a quick and well run awards. All adds up to a great event. Way to go Ganzel
Great Job guys--loved the Safari 9.

I'd like to say (JOB WELL DONE!!!) I understand the little complications of running your first event. You all handled those little things well.I enjoy seeing the folks of our area working together.I'm sure you all can see where we are capable of going with all of this.A second tourney on the schedule for Northshore is possable. Two a year for each course is possable.May I suggest one thing? If your gonna set up an alternate course,Set it up in time for all to see and play.I completly dug the safari just wish i'd had a chance to play it before the final. I'm sure there were a few who felt the same.Aside from that little detail,I was very impressed with the way the course looked,Tourney was ran,And everything about yesterday.Great Job Gang!!!:cool::cool:

I would like to second Pitch on the tourney, awesome job guys. I had a great time and I know the alma youngun's did too. The course was looking great, you had some awesome sponsorships for prizes and FOOD!!! It was great to be able to show up and have a whole day of DG. We got there at 6:30 that morning and didn't leave until around 6 that night, everything in between was DG (almost 12 hours!!!)
The only thing I could complain about is someone should blindfold Kyle so he can't putt so well. Chris was really trying to beat him out there, but kept losing out. On the flip side, I'll guarantee you Chris will be putting all week at school to get ready for their next meeting! Watch out Kyle!!! :D

Thank You to all the volunteers, Chuck, Darrell, Joe, Super Dave, and a very special thanks to Rachael, she handled the money, added scores, went shopping for us, and as you might have noticed, she was the only beautiful volunteer- just to mention a few of the wonderful things she gave to this event. Thank you to our sponsors, all you need is love, and they gave quite a bit! Finally, Thank You to all the locals, our club- I and everyone I have talked to noticed the support, friendship, and hard work that went into making this event. In brief, All of the goals were achieved! Everybody I saw had a smile when they went home, we gave away a lot of free stuff ( over $3000 worth), we teed at ten, we got a little publicity, we only made a few mistakes (oppurtunities to learn as I call them), and not only did the host of the Northshore Invitational, the Northwest Arkansas Disc Golf Association, break even, we made over

Most important of all, I want you all to thank the City of Fayetteville Parks and Recreation department. David Wright has a very positive, and proactive role; leading the way to get things done right, so that all of us have a safe and fun place to play disc golf. The city has allowed us to have this event, they support our organization, and they have done an outstanding job in taking care of Northshore.
Thank You

I am no expert on round ratings, but I believe the PDGA does that periodically, note on the PDGA home page it says next ratings update 4/18/06, I think you find this info through the membership not the PDGA tour. Like I said I'm no expert at this so if someone knows more or this is wrong please let us know.... Or someone could call the # under the logo on top of this web page but that would be like reading instructions and us men can't do that, any lady golfers want to help us? :D

I would suggest membership in BOTH clubs, I plan on paying dues for NWADGC, WAFDA's memberships are annual on a calendar year basis, we plan on after 9-1 offering memberships for the rest of 2005 as well as 2006 - that's 15 months worth for the 12 month price
