Yes, the winners of Am1 and Women's A1 will win a paid entry into this years Discraft Great Lakes Open to be held on June 23, 24 and 25. At last weeks A3 Disc board meeting it was voted on and approved.

We are going back to the 2 day format for the Am's at the DGLO. The Pro's will still play Friday, Saturday, Sunday using a staggered start. The Am's will play two rounds Saturday using shotgun start and one on Sunday. The Am's will play both the Monster and Original courses at the DGLO this year.

Good news Bill. Thanks. I agree with these changes, not as much for my reasons, but because I know it will be better attended than last year due to the Friday round. And Pros don't have jobs anyway, so they can play Friday :DAre AM1's playing Monster Longs?!? I assume 2 rounds of Orginal will be Long/Short? I could go for some Blue/Black/Blue myself.

Blue=OG long
Red=OG short
Black=Monster long
Yellow=Monster short

Black tees!!!! Sounds good Bill. I think Yellow is more of a challenge than Red, and Red should be excluded. Perhaps I have this opinion because of my previous performance (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=4644&year=2005&include_ratings=1#Advanced). Will the DGLO offer only 1 Men's Amateur division, as seen in the past?

Daemon, I believe, is referring to Champ Yellow, which is defintely tougher than Red. For Champ Black/Yellow, how about making the greens a little more reasonable on Hole 8 and E? -- there are shrubs practically touching the basket -- you can be 10' from the basket and have nothing. I'm not advocating major surgery here, just a little prudent pruning.

Less than two weeks till No Foolin on Sunday March 26. Tod More has been working with Hudson Mills to get the courses ready. Last fall A3 Disc donated just under $1000.00 worth of wood for 96 new tee signs. The new tee signs are done and should be in place before No Foolin.

Save $10.00 by registering online or by mail. More information at www.a3disc.org (http://www.a3disc.org)

Zach: This is my year to regain our ties. Last year I didn't get to play a fistfull of tourneys, but I'll make the most of it this year...although I've got some work cut out for me after your Lumberjack Performance! Jolly Good Show, mate.

Really, that's funny. I also have a new cart. My cart brings out my TRUE SMALL PERSON POWER!. Hopefully we play the same format as last year, 24 Longs on both courses. Be prepared for the Black Monster!

Yes, the Pro's and Am1's should plan on playing 24 holes from the long tees on both the Original and Monster courses. I have not heard if the Monster Champ baskets will be used. The TD will make the final decision on courses and tees, so anything is possible.

All it takes is a little 320' field ace-you can do it. Or, if you've got a CANNNON (http://www.a3disc.org/2001/aaronbonine-monsterpar.htm) , you probably need about 200'. The question is, which double bogey is that eagle going to offset? :D:DProbably hole A.

DSproAVIAR
Mar 16 2006, 03:52 PM
Throw 210' shots in the middle of the fairway and it's an easy 6, that should easily give you 1 or 2 strokes on the WA1 field. I took a 6 at Meltdown. Keep in mind that even the touring pros play that hole as a par 5(but they usually birdie)

1. No matter what division you play, you'll be playing the same tees as everyone else in your division. Just think of it as three holes missing two baskets!
2. I haven't done the click, click, oh, back, back, but maybe you don't have to play women's advanced. Or if you do have to play advanced among women, you might have fun playing Men's Rec from the short tees.
3. Maybe by "Am1" he meant Men's Advanced. They ran the No Foolin as a R tier once or twice so I think they understand that Women's Advanced is three or four divisions below Silver.

But you never know. Maybe they intend that everyone playing in that pool should get ratings. Maybe they were planning on putting the Women Advanced in the Rec-Int pool. You should e-mail the TD.

Mar 16 2006, 04:32 PM
so your telling me that AM1 women have to play from the longs???

No, I only meant Am1 that the guys play in should be prepared for the long tees. I don't think Am1 women will play Monster long tees. The TD normally makes the decision the morning of No Foolin. The weather and how many players show up are considered.

Angel you should let us know what you would like to play. At least tell your father, since he will be the tournament official for No Foolin.

21 Advanced Pre-registered. Only 6 days now.. I predict that this tourney will fill, as attendance has been high in the past, and in the past this tourny was competing with the Biggest Tournament in the UNIVERSE. (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=5466) Now that there is no conflict many more golfers can attend.

Kira and I might play. Diana and Kelsey are both out of town this weekend. We will wait until Saturday afternoon to register. If it fills, those people wanted to play more than we did so that's o.k.

I have to figure out how to use Diana's Pay Pal account. Does that deduct from a credit card or does there have to be money in there, like a debit system. Anybody know? I'm really not good with late 20th and early 21st century technology.

So the 192 cap is solid? And maybe there is a fivesome or two if there is no way to split the divisions 96-96 between the two courses?

We are at 132 players and I do not think we will get to 192. I've never set the groups on a full tournament, so we may end up with a few 5 somes to keep people in the same divisions on the same course.

Are you kidding?!?! Rams are way too rare! If Dave runs some more, or maybe some star rams for the 2008 worlds in Kalamazoo/battle creek, then you've got a deal.

I've only got a few new ones left, so I'll tell you what...

One free RAM with the purchase of an Audi S4 Cabriolet....

You know you want one: Ram or S4 Cab...they're both highly desired! ;)

Nice shooting Daemon. Glad to see you win....

Thanks for a fun tournament, and thanks to all that helped. The park looked nice.

I must ask, what was up with the payouts? Seemed a little watered down. A ploy to get the super ams playing pro?

bruce_brakel
Mar 27 2006, 12:48 AM
I saw the payouts. They looked like standard B-tier PDGA payouts. The entry fees were lower than in the past, which I appreciate and prefer, so the $10 player pack and $3 PDGA player fee took a proportionately bigger bite than if we had paid $40 or $45 to play advanced.

PDGA payouts just are not great payouts. They are designed to ensure that an event is profitable. Some TDs choose to give quite a bit more back to the players than the PDGA minimum.

My daughter had the same reaction. We did the math in the car on the way home. Those were 110% PDGA B-tier payouts according to the PDGA way of doing math.

bruce_brakel
Mar 27 2006, 01:25 AM
A couple of other things, the PDGA payout tables go deeper this year, 50% instead of 40% in advanced, I think, and they no longer put a nice "bonus" on the top few spots. The new tables take away that bonus and give it to the addtional bottom cashing spots. Whenever you increase the number paid, obviously, the amount paid to each is decreased.

First of all, a BIG round of applause for all the folks who worked to make this tournament happen.

Congrats, Daemon, on your Am1 victory!

One correction: I did come in 2nd but it was in the PGM division, Mark Ellis was 1st, shooting a stellar -1 on Monster Black -- not sure who came in 2nd in Masters but I heard Luna shot a sizzling -11 on Blue.

The PDGA payout table only goes deeper for pros this year if TDs have added cash and choose to. The Am payout table didn't change in 2006 from 2005.

The payouts were an embarrassment considering the size of the field, 193 players and the entry fee.

$350 for the winner of open men. Wheres the incentive to come out, bragging rights?

I especially feel for the Am's, their payout was so low we didn't even believe it.

The only real winners were the A3 club.

Man... finishing just in the bottom half of the Am2 field. No Foolin', that part of it was no fun... but the rest of it was great. Outside of my four-hole-bogey-run to finish out the Original Course, I played well enough to cash... grr... haha...

I need to thank Billy Kunze, Rob Snow (again!), Kruse (as usual), Dan Depaulis, Paul Grasso, and Luke Holtzapple ALL for the enjoyment of playing rounds with them, the guys I played with and was able to joke around with, that kept me relaxed all day really made it a perfect day of disc golf!

And the solid TDs and pancakes and sausage links (I wonder if 8 pancakes and 25 sausage links affected my second round play at all...) didn't hurt things either!

Thanks for the great day of Disc A3! And congrats to the winners (even if they are baggers, **** Bennett... move him up! ... ... err...)

Not only were the payouts weak...The merch was awefully pricey. So how much $$ did A3 rake in for this tourney? Where does that money go?

DSproAVIAR
Mar 27 2006, 03:59 PM
Alot of the $$ that they did make off of the tourney will go to improving the course. Notice the new graffiti/vandalism-resistant tee signs on every hole of this great public park. 96 of them in all!! Notice the new benches installed as well, I think there are 5! I certainly enjoyed the backrest on hole 14 for about 15 mins while it was backed up. And alot of the $$ that the club makes throughout the year goes to fund DGLO, the club's signature event, to make sure that the payouts are enough to support touring players!! Its too bad that people are unsatisfied, but nobody is putting your $$ in their pocket. It all goes back to DG, in the end. Come to DGLO and get your entry fee's value right in your players pack! (They have done this in the past when I have played, but I am not affiliated with the A3 BOD and cannot promise anything)

---But if anyone attends our Local 101 event on April 9th at the great Hudson Mills (Made great by A3), those anyones will not be dissapointed with our payouts and prices of custom-stamped Innova hotness.---

j_d
Mar 27 2006, 05:25 PM
I'd like to echo what Daemon is saying. The club is very diligent about keeping up the courses and putting on a great show at DGLO time. Rest assured that any money the club makes goes back into the sport -- courses that don't have good clubs behind them end up beaten in and trashed -- who wants to play at one of those?

The payouts must have been posted because I got a good long look at them without anyone threatening to disqualify me for looking. They were on the end of one of the picnic tables.

These are the 2006 B-tier standards:

· PRO: $250 sponsor cash added to Pros, $1,750 minimum Pro Purse, 110+ % payout in Open (MPO), Pro Women (FPO), 100+ % other divisions, estimated field size: 30+ pro players
· AM: 48 amateur player minimum, 100+ % payout in all divisions, $10 min. value player package provided to all amateur competitors as part of overall amateur payout

I did the math on the Intermediate Womens' payout. It was a PDGA B-tier payout.

Tod said he will be adding the payouts in a day or two.

You are mistaken about the $500 minimum added cash. The 2006 PDGA Tour Standards list "PRO: $250 sponsor cash added to Pros". I believe it's been $250 for several years for a B-tier

This year the Pro payout was lower because we lowered the entry fee $15 and changed to the PDGA payout table using 45%.

2005 No Foolin
Entry fee was $65
28 Open Players
Paid out 33%, so 11 players cashed
1st place cash was $575

2006 No Foolin
Entry was $50
29 Open Players
Paid out 45% using PDGA table, 13 players cashed
1st place cash was $349 (if I remember correctly)

There was $435 less money avaliable for the payout this year because we lowered the entry fee $15. We also lowered all the Am divisions $5. Pro Master and Pro Grandmaster went up $5.

We set No Foolin entry fees to the table in the tour standard. It said "TDs are required not to exceed the values listed in this table in determining their 2006 PDGA net entry fees.". It appears the PDGA discovered a problem with a max of $50 for the Open players and has raised the max to $75. They have also changed the "do not exceed" to "TDs are strongly urged not to exceed the values listed in this table". This new document is dated 3/21/06. We thought we were following the mandatory guide lines last month when we opened up registration.

terrycalhoun
Mar 28 2006, 04:10 PM
All of the extra added cash was because so many of the Pros came to a3disc board meetings and then spent so much time helping the club raise sponsorship dollars.

bruce_brakel
Mar 28 2006, 04:32 PM
I'm sorry that you got burned by all the ill conceived, new mandatory entry fees and payout formulas, but I'm glad it was a club that a PDGA Board member belongs to that did. Maybe someone else will notice and they'll let TDs run good events next year without having to violate the sanctioning agreement and tour standards.

It is hard to have fat payouts at the top, like most of our players want, when you have to pay $10 to last place in every amateur division [player packs] and go almost half way down in the pros, and are handcuffed in what you can charge for an entry fee. They removed the ridiculous entry fee restrictions, but not in time for the early season events.

From looking around at websites and posted flyers, it looks to me like most TDs are just ignoring those requirements. I have no doubt that some of the events people are comparing the No Foolin' to paid 33% of the field and put bonuses on the top spots. I'm seeing TDs advertise that on flyers for tournaments coming up.

Since a lot of Michigan players are reading this I would add that at Bowling Green they are probably going to follow the new standards too. Their entry fee is cheap for an A-tier and they are doing big player packs. The requirement that they go 50% deep and use the flat payout charts is going to mean the same thing there as here.

If you want to put the merch back in the merchastravaganza you need to vote for Board candidates who understand this stuff. The PDGA does not need to be shooting itself in the foot by selling skim milk to ice cream lovers.
