In order to have some more fun playing DG in Lubbock, we will have a series of events on select Sundays in 2006. Events will focus on fun, to meet other players, to expand skills, and to prep for upcoming tourneys (worlds, doubles, teams, etc.). Start times will be at 2:00 pm (NO late entries will be accepted). Formats will change for each event. Entry fees will be $6. Payout will differ for each event (depends on sponsors, etc.) There will be an ace pot for each event. Also, a percentage of the entry will go to course maintenance/improvement.

Possible events:

Match Play – play to win (not tie) a hole
Portable Basket Events – Clapp? Maxie? Buffalo Springs? Texas Tech? Others?
All Shook Up – every hole different: best shot, best score, worst shot, play your partner disc, alternate, all California, others, or combinations, maybe throw in types of shots: forehands, rollers, turbos, etc.
Video Day – (spring or summer) video of drives and putts to see how you are throwing (need someone with a good camera and skills), we will video then review/critique at Hub City Brewery
Levelland DG - play a Saturday afternoon, then BBQ Brisket, then a glow round.
High Points Wins – hit the basket and get some points, hit the chains and get more points, the player with the most points wins
Family Day – (summer) girls want to have fun, kids want to play, families can learn to play DG together, we will cover the basic rules, what discs to use, and how to drive and putt properly, and then we will play a few holes of fun doubles, discs will be available to borrow and to purchase.
Speed Play – the final score is a combination of your score and how fast you can run. Will young legs beat a skilled player?
Field Events Competition – (prior to June Am Worlds) we all can drive and putt (sometimes), but can you forehand putt, turbo putt, throw rollers, forehands, thumbers, scoobies? How far can you throw/roll? Field events are held at World’s events each year so we will use a similar format.
Backwards Play – throw from selected tee pads to selected baskets, forces use of different shots
Night Glows - glow sticks on baskets and on discs
Turkey Throw Up the Brazos – (around Thanksgiving) one hole, from east of MLK in Mae Simmons Park to basket #1
End of year meeting and membership drive - (December) get $5 off your PDGA membership if you sign up at the membership drive event. Sign up for the Windriders. Discuss the next year events, etc.

I could REALLY use some help. If you want to run any of these quick events or others, contact me. Check here and on the course sign for updated information on the HCSSS. Let's have some DG fun.

First HCSSS will be Feb 26th 1:30
Sponsored by the Windriders Disc Golf Club

Chris Lee has volunteered to use his video camera and tripod to get disc golf action shots. He will get shots of drives, up-shots, and putts from a few different angles. What does a forehand throw look like? A backhand roller? Turbo putt? And so on….

We will play a shortened round. $3 entry fee. Top quarter win discs.

Then, we will head up to Hub City for a few refreshments and to play the video for all to see. Critiques of throwing styles are encouraged on everyone except the one leg guy.

Windrider ace pot applies. If you allow yourself to be on video and play the round, then you qualify for a Closest to Basket shot. CTB donated by Hub City Brewery.

For more info contact Chris Lee 786-8423

Likely next HCSSS event - McAlister Portables March 19th.

The second HCSSS was set for portables at McAlister a few weeks ago, but the wind and rain caused a postponement until Sunday April 2, 1:00 pm. Bring your portable baskets early for setup. We won't have any more HCSS events in April due to Am Worlds on the 8th, Amarillo Fling on the 15th, Big Spring West Texas Champions on the 22 & 23rd, TX Women's April 29, DisCrazy May 6...maybe we could squeeze something in on the 30th (High Points or All Shook Up).

We did end up having portable play at McAlister on April 2. The wind was very high at a constant 30+ mph (maybe more). Anyway, it was good just to get out and see what the area presented (lenght, OB, etc.). Adjustments have been made (see McAlister thread). Next up for the HCSSS might be a High Points or All Shook Up. I'm also thinking of doing a Speed DG, but I'm not really sure how to score it yet (checking some things out). I figure Stephen, Gordo, Jon, a few others might try it...I think it would be interesting.
