Matt Ryan will be TD for the first Wild Thing. This is a charity event to benefit the Wildlife Rehab Center. The plan is to actually have a presentation by Rob's wife, Carol Lee, that will include a show of wild animals. She will talk about the real wild life at Mackenzie Park. The grand prize for the tourney is a Southwest Airline round trip voucher (reverse drawing, everyone has a chance to win)! Info: March 11, two rounds, players meeting at 8:30 am, pro $30, am $20, contact Matt, more info on the course sign.

Some details about the "Wild Thing" this spring (March 11). It is really two tournaments in one.

The morning round (24 holes: 8 best shot, 8 PPD, 8 best score) will be pick your partner doubles or I'll randomly match you up. Three Divisions: Recreational, Intermediate, Advanced. This will be the perfect practice opportunity for players planning to attend World Doubles or other doubles tournaments. Prizes will be awarded in each division. The emphasis is on fun and friendly competition.
The plan at lunch time is to have an educational presentation by the SP Wildlife Rehab group with live wild animals, an awards presentation, lunch available, and drawings.

The afternoon round (24 holes) will be singles by PDGA divisions as long as at least four players exist for a division. Prizes and cash will be awarded.

Players may choose to only play the morning round, the afternoon round, or both. Every player will receive an entry in the drawing for each round entered. Only players will be entered in the drawing for the free Southwest Airlines Round Trip Voucher. The drawing will be held at the end of the tourney and you must be present to win.

I hope this will be a lot of fun, educational, beneficial to the SPWRC, and a great kick off to the disc golf summer season. I will need many helpers, so please contact me at the course or by email (mryan@door.net) if you can help.

The Wild Thing almost went off without any problems. Numbers of players were low. We think that the first weekend of spring break pulled many of the students and others away from the event. But, it is always so tough to get the casual players to play at these events (but we're working on that). The success is that we gave $200 to the South Plains Wildlife Rehab organization. Carol Lee brought a barn owl and an oppusum (or is that possum?) to the outdoor center. It was really interesting to see these things up close. Beside's poor morning play, everything was goind okay. Then it happened. I started on a card on hole 19. We had three extra 'wild holes' basically between 19 and 20. Well, I missed my 10 foot put like normal, looked up to find the baskets for the A, B, C holes and saw no basket. My brand new portable (given as a Christmas gift from Carol to Stephen and I) was missing. I ended up playing a few more holes and pulled out (I think the first time I did not finish anything). I'm soooo PO'ed. I placed a request for info in the "Chains of the Plains" newsletter and made flyers for the course sign and to hand to players at the course. It is highly likely I'll never see the basket again, but I do want to do everything possible to catch them. They may have stolen before, and they may steal again. I would greatly appreciate a special effort for everyone who is out there to put your 'feelers' out and help me get this person (and my basket). I'm putting up at least $50.
