Yes I (William Gilbert) will be running a tournament for women only on July 29th 2006
Name of tournament is likely to change. (looking for name suggestions and artwork) Hopefully 1st annual. A3disc club thinks the word championship might scare away lower level Am's and we really want them to be there in force.
The goal of this tournament for now is just to get more women into tournaments and have some fun.
Don't forget to bring your husbands and significant others to volunteer.
Subject to schedule changes still
i don't really have any details for you as of yet
I hope to be sanctioned 'C Tier'
i will be looking for Sponsors, Volunteers, Suggestions and ways to really bring in lots of first tournament women AM's into this tournament.
We can handle 192 players, although i don't expect that many probably not even close this year.
This idea came about becuase of my wife, my daughter and my best friends wife being forced to play up in womens divisions all the time.

Sounds like a great idea to get more women out there playing! I will plan on it for right now but it would be nice if there were some more details, like a date set in stone would be a good start. I do know women's payouts in the past haven't been that great in the area, and I'm not just saying Ann Arbor. I am from Lansing and have had poor payouts here too and many other places. Now maybe it's not your fault, I have no idea who you are, but I've played a lot in the past and have been dissapointed with payouts. I am talking about AM payouts, and I play Pro now so it doesn't affect me anymore. But I know some women have played a couple tournaments and then don't come back because they don't feel it's worth the effort. Me however loved the sport so much I stuck with it. If you would like, maybe I can get an email address for the person in Utah who is holding a Women's Championships tourney as well, and see if maybe they could give you some advice on it.
I also know that if you contact JBird, he may be a sponsor. Also look up women disc golf sites like Disc Diva and DiscGolfHer and talk to them about sponsoring your women's event.
I hope I was more help than I sounded. I don't mean to be offensive. But alot of us have families and need to plan ahead.

Ok so I don't have the guy's email address but you can send him a message through the pdga tour page by clicking on his name. I don't know him either so I don't know if it will be helpful to you, but it's just a suggestion.

Carefull there, Bill. Bring the hubby OR the significant other, its never good to have both around at the same time.
This event will see some coverage if the fam vacay and travel schedule allows.

i put this one on my schedule of the few events i plan on playing this year. and i would absolutely love to help out in any way. after all, i am a local.
i am sure Jbird would be interested in sponsering it in some way, shape, or form. dont know for sure, but i do know he LOVEs the ladies.
erin, we all know womens payouts S UC K, almost wherever you go. but who cares about the benjamens....... this is for the title.... Womens MI state Champion of the World (06 that is), ((or whatever they end up callin it)), and that my friend is PRICELESS. of course, you could always play the state series for that other title.... i think its called the "state champ" title, somethin like that. (ill go check out those old dusty plaques i have)
see ya out there soon............

It is good to see so many clubs deciding to run women's only events this year. If it is the first time AM women you want to attract, why not run a D-Tier instead of a C-Tier. Then non-members will not have to pay the extra $5 to play. The D-tier reccommends lower entry fees and that could attract more of the gals that are new to tournaments.
Here are the things that we are doing in Utah to make our event a success:
We have a committee that meets and emails regularly. It includes women from different courses around the state and people that want to help.
Involve as many women players as possible. It is their tournament! One of our women is designing the logo.
We are trying to put together nice players packs including an embroidered shirt and some other women specific items. We decided that having nice players packs would be more benneficial for all players than having a ton of added cash. A REC woman will pay $7 bucks and get a players pack with $30-$40 worth of stuff in it.
We will have a male caddie for every woman that wants one.
We are trying to involve as many guys as possible. We will be holding mixed doubles the next day for the guys who help out.
Starting in March we will be having a ladies only league that will alternate between each of the area courses.
We will offer PDGA memberships as prizes in some divisions.
We are going to accomadate the course for the INT and REC divisions. Two of the holes have long water shots that we will be making alternate tees for.
We are holding this event with specific goals in mind. (raising the number of female PDGA members to 10, getting more women out to our monthlies)
We are working our butts off to get sponsors so we can make this happen.
I hope your event in MI goes well. I really think that as more women play disc golf, the overall image of the sport will go up. I hope to make it to Hudson Mills one day, it is on my must play list.
Good Luck

This tournament will be going ahead as planned.
It will be a C Tier event.
Sponsors that have agreed to donate so far J-bird, Disc Golf Express, Peoria Disc Golf Club, Meyer Aluminum Blanks
i am desperately seeking artwork. so if you can help please let me know. my club might be willing to pay a small fee for the artwork but will not accept restrictions on ownership of that artwork.
i am looking for more sponsors willing to sponsor with cash? i want the cash both to add to the payouts but to add or create players packs.
so please all the women out there please talk to me, give me some help. i would like access to some local or not local companies that might be willing to be a sponsor for my tournament.
i have already decided to sell sponsorships for holes on the course and the beauty is i have sold 2 holes already.

Can anyone give more info on this event?
Cost?
Players Packs?
Divisions?
etc..
I just got my girlfriend into Disc Golf, and she is interested in playing this women's only event.
I think something that might be really cool is to talk to some of the Women Pro's and put on a workshop for women and disc golf techniques. I think this would be a huge hit.

Dave,
Some people up here in Ann Arbor, are going to run a women's only event. They are still looking for disc sponsors, and selling sponsorships for the various holes. Would Gateway be interested in sponsoring this first women's only event in Ann Arbor? Hopefully, this will be the 1st annual event here in Ann Arbor.
If you want more info, here is a link to the disccusion:

Are you going to be doing just a T-Shirt? or a woman specific polo or other type shirt? If you wanted to do a polo type shirt with some embroidery, I might know some poeple that could do it. Just need to konw how many shirts to do it on.
What about things like a birdie bag, mini, water bottle, and scorecard holder. Those are all things I personally like to have in my bag.
BTW, what did Dave @ gateway have to say about sponsorships?

actually whether they are polo shirts or t-shirts will depend on if i can get a sponsor to pay for them. and or printed or embroidery will depend on the same

On July 29th, 2006
There will be a Women's only Tournament at Hudson Mills Metropark, north of Ann Arbor, MI. It will be a sanctioned C Tier event. I am thinking of limiting it to 150 players to try and keep it manageable. It’s probably unrealistic to expect to get that many in the first year but time will tell.
Michigan's Women's Championship (Femillz Open)
We know we will be offering the following divisions
Open Pro $35
Pro Masters $35
Pro Grand Master $35
AM1 Advanced $30
AM2 Intermediate $25
AM3 Novice $20
AM Masters $20
Juniors <19 $15
Other divisions will be offered if 2 people sign up for that division in advance. This would entail other Junior Divisions or AM Grand Masters, etc,. let me know, email me.
There will be CTP's, Jumbo Tosses, & other prizes.
William Gilbert is the TD, in cooperation with A3 Disc.
You can contact William Gilbert with the following options

Our sponsors so far are:
A3 Disc
Discraft
Disc Golf Express
J-Bird Discs
Peoria Disc Golf Club
Meyer Aluminum Blanks (Sheboygan Falls, WI.)
Metal Processing Solutions
Julie Jett for the Artwork
We are still seeking Sponsors, cash sponsors are what is needed most to help defray the costs to pay for the players pack and to add money to the PRO purse. Unless somebody would like to supply 100-150 pieces of something to place in the Players Packs.
Even though a Player’s pack is not required for this event one will be supplied more details to follow as more sponsors are added, to help defray the costs for the players pack.
Fundraising Discs will be sold starting in mid June, see them at the Discraft Great Lakes Open at Hudson Mills Metropark, and hopefully other events around the area, with the Artwork created. Spectra's will be sold for $25.00 each these discs will be collector's items and are strictly intended as fund raising discs.
Registration will is 7:30 - 9:00 AM
Players meeting at 9:15 AM
First round Tee off approx 9:45 AM
Second Round tee off approx 3:00 PM
Awards approx 7:00 PM
Please feel free to contact William Gilbert with suggestions for the players pack, or sponsors who might be willing to assist in funding this enterprise.
We are also searching for PRO's willing to possibly give clinics for the other women on driving, upshots, unique shots or putting. Even PRO's willing just to talk to women about disc golf and help build it up.

A3 disc did not pay for these they were willing to but i chose to pay for them or my company did.
The $50.00 covers shipping and handling to your address in the US possibly canada depending on what shipping charges are to Canada.
I hope a lot of you who are not able to make it to this event will purchase 1 or 2 of these discs. As Dustin has said the discs are currently numbered 1 - 75. There are 75 Spectras and 75 Buzzes. you can buy a set or singles. Sets will be sold from the low end of the numbered series. singles from the high end. please specify Buzz or Spectra or Both. as long as enough discs are left in your choice that is what you will get. Discs 1 - 5 are intending to be autographed and sold on E-Bay after DGLO. I hope to get some of the PRO women to autograph them to help raise funds.
Discs 6-11 of the discs are reserved for Julie Jett the artist and myself.

Please support this tournament by purchasing a disc or two before the tournament.
We have both Spectras, & Buzzes to sell 25$ each which will cover shipping & handling to your address. You must supply a valid address for either UPS or mail.
Mini's are available with the artwork on it as well at $5 each. All the discs are numbered if you want a set you should specify such, sets sell for $50.
75 Spectras and 75 Buzzes were printed as well as 60 minis.
mini's can be mail ordered probably for $8 to cover shipping and handling. or you may over the mini with a full size disc for only $5 additional.

Jul 21 2006, 10:42 PM
tees and courses
All 24 holes for all divisions
PROS unless they wish to vote otherwise will be playing Long on the original and short on the monster. No champ baskets, i think we will keep it simple this first year. PRO tees may change on the monster if enough of you ask for it otherwise this is the plan.
AM's will be playing shorts on both courses.
Side note, the first 40 players who sign up should be receiving a players pack, assuming the sponsor gets the discs in my hands on time. Note this is not official as i have not received the discs yet but have been told they would be sending them.
The players pack will minor if the sponsor doesn't come through but there are some small items in it at least.
more to follow as soon as i know it.
So the first 11 signed up so far will be receving them first.
Remember you first 11 must still check in that morning.
Thanks William Gilbert.

Players packs are still in question the sponsor who said he was sending 40 discs has not even shipped them as of yet. i do not know if they will be here in time. without these discs the players packs will be simple minor items. i will keep you informed here also.
PRO payout will be enhanced by a minimum of $50.
The first 40 people who sign up pro or am will get these players packs unless the discs don't show up!?!? then we will see how it goes.
the collectable buzz's and spectra will be on sale saturday for less than the advertised price. i haven't decided on that price yet, it will depend on the quantity of players who show up and are willing to buy one. players payouts can not be used towards these discs.
We will also be having a raffle for a couple items $1 tickets or 6/$5. all for fundraising of course. i will also be having jumbo tosses for every division that shows up and jumbo tosses for players and some for staff.

Since it's gonna be extremely warm and humid on Saturday, I wanted to see if I can put in a request to make sure there is water throughout the courses. That would be nice to have it available due to the weather. Thanks! :)

Added to PRO payout $100 total now.
Players packs come in 3 varietys.
First 20 includes everything we have available piece of jewelry donated by Jen Dombrowski. Will be given to the people who pre-registered and the first 6 after that.
Next 21-35 same as first 20 just missing the jewelry made by Jen Dombrowski.
& 36-45 missing some items in rest of packs various discs but still good.
Final Sponsors added
Pad Timmons from Discraft who donated his Ace Pool winnings from Wednesday league night to enhance the PRO payout to $100.
Jen Dombrowski donated 20 necklaces which should go over very well with the ladies.
