Wave,
There are added fees to PayPal. That's the American way. It should be $2 or $3.

Mike if your out there, What is PayPal charging?

You can save the fee with a $.39 stamp. Lots of time left... tick...tick...tick...

There will be paypal fees. I have been very busy at work lately working form 9 am til 11 pm. Things are starting to calm down now and I will be working to get paypal up along with other dogwood info on the RADL site.

I will also post to let people know that the information is available.

Thanks for the compliments. It is not that difficult to do and it lets the TD take care of other stuff for the event. If we get a few volunteers to just take care of a few things here and there everything goes much smoother.

Thanks to all those that have offered to help me out with other radl items as well. Especially Kevin Heathcock and Jason Clark at this time.

If anybody has any suggestions for improvements to any RADL event please let me know. But do not come to me and tell me something sucks. I can not fix suck but if I know why something did not work well for people we can look into better ways to improve things.

I'll translate for you J..., if you miss the safe landing on #8, you move to the white tee (from the blue), miss from there, move to the red tee (or orange as I think it is).

It avoids the dreaded 7-circle 15 from emptying your bag from the blue tee.

If I remember correctly that's the way it was done last year at the Crosstown.

Travis,
We did that for the women and the intermediates. Advanced golfers should be able to throw a 180 foot turn over, anhyzer or forehand.
Last year I spoke to only one adv master who was unsure about the shot. After the round he said that he had no trouble with it.

TravisGrindle12
Jan 31 2006, 10:11 PM
Craig, I with the utmost respect for you and RADL must disagree.
What added Value does this rule add to Ceder Hills? To
me there is no value added. Ceder Hills has more than enough challenging holes.

I did watch someone who is a good golfer but had some phyisical issues that do make this shot very difficult. This person was forced to throw at least 4 shots before getting over "in Bounds" At some point the rule becomes insulting not challengeing. At least two groups were being held up and this person knew it, but he was still haveing to throw. Very embarassing.

This rule disturbs the pace of play. And Lets Face it someone who is having trouble with this hole is going to have plenty of more trouble trying to contend for the lead. So why make someone take a triple circle 10. When One penalty stroke should suffice.

Play the tee, take your penalty move to the original tee and keep the tourney movin.

I believe Hole 8 was played this way for the FDC's not Dogwood. How will this hole Be played?

craigramsdell
Jan 31 2006, 10:43 PM
Travis,
I'll take your concerns up with Richard the co-TD and the course designer.
We'll be it touch.

Having the intermediates and women play a different rule on the same hole does 2 things.

1. Could create confussion
2. Makes the two divisions play "Different courses" meaning their rounds probably wouldn't get rated and stuff like that.

My personal opinion is that a progressive not only makes sense, speeds things up.

The bottom line is, IMO, the ob on this hole only adds to the pure stupidity of the hole.

obxgolfgirl
Jan 31 2006, 11:37 PM
I agree with MTL (for once) that everyone should play the same course. That being said, a player choosing to enter a tournament held at any given course should be prepared to play it as designed, so I disagree with the progressive rule. Some courses are easier than others. A golfer lacking a mid-range turnover shot in his "arsenal" might not be ready for tournament level play at this particular course. Sure, not all golfers can park the hole, but come on; the ob line is only like what, 160 or 180 feet? You should be able to throw that far before you enter competitive play. We've all had an early release or two on # 8 and had to re-tee/take the stroke...that's the price you play for messing up your shot. Just my two cents and wishing to offend no one ....

Terry

Feb 01 2006, 01:47 PM
I like the idea of the progressive drop zone, because weather conditions can make a shot much tougher than expected. A player who can throw 230' on calm day may have a tough time throwing that 160' anhyzer in the rain, or with a 20 mph crosswind.

Think of how brutal blue #10 at Buckhorn can be in the wind. It's only 285' to the basket (260' straight ahead to the water's edge), but with no drop zone progression, there have been some really big scores there. At least on that hole, the player has the option of making a shorter hyzer shot into the woods, and blasting through trees to make a 4 or 5. Even that kind of poor option is not available at Cedar #8.

johnbiscoe
Feb 01 2006, 03:31 PM
what is the reason for that particular OB in the first place?

Terry I agree with the fact that when you enter a tournament you should play it they way the TD says. I would never complain about something like this at or during a PDGA event. But suggestions were asked for and so I thought this was the time to bring it up.
I am more against this “rule” for speed of play purpose’s.

Due to the demand for this event I am trying to make sure that it is very clear how paypal transactions will work. Last year there were some issues with people that mailed entries and those that paypalled. A hopefully clear policy will be posted when paypal goes live.

I am planning to work on this information tonight though and hopefully will have everything completed relatively quickly.

Feb 02 2006, 02:20 PM
unless it is there to protect something/keep folks out of that particular area it seems to be such a short reach to clear it that it will only affect the play/mindset of players in the lowest divisions. imo these players don't really need to be "worked"- they will struggle enough at cedar as it is. merely my opinion though.

What if Hippy Dave or say my girlfriend wanted to play. Neither could make that shot, even with two bags. You have to play progression, this event ain't the USDGC. And I wondered what the layout will be or if it has even been thought about. Original, Gold? Short tees for the intermediates? Predictions? Really looking foward to this tourney!

I must make a plea for everyone playing the same course, at least. It is a bit of an insult to go play an A-tier and not have your rounds rated because of playing a different "course."

I personally agree with a progression on 8, mostly for speed of play reasons. Yeah, most people at a competitive level should be able to make the shot, but be wary of turning some people off who are new to competition and may lack confidence in that shot.

PayPal is now available for the Crosstown!!

www.radl.biz (http://www.radl.biz)

I have tried to set up the policy for paypal such that mailed entries will have an equal chance to get in.

Your entry must be received by 5:00 PM EST to be considered received on that day. All mail entries and paypal entries will be processed at the same time daily. Should the event fill all paypal entries and mailed entries will be put into a "hat" and randomly chosen to determine who gets in.

The pre-registration list will be updated daily and can be found at the following link

This talk about "playing progression on #8" at Cedar Hills... I don't understand. Hole #7 has a pond that must be cleared. Is this the hole people are actually referring to?

marshief
Feb 06 2006, 11:50 PM
8 is island OB. If you don't make it over the phone poles, you retee until you make it over the phone poles. On 7, you can easily pitch up to the pond and make the throw over. Or take the long way around. Either way, you can bail out on 7, but not on 8.

It appears I'll have to show up for this event and dip into the festivities at say, 9am or so...weeeeeeeeeooooooooo.
:D
Plus it'll give me a good chance to hang out with my buddies Beth, Craiger, and the Cap'n a couple days before I move. Guess that means I should get all my packing done BEFORE this event as I'll be leaving on the 14th.

FYI to end the speculation, we will play Cedar Hills in the Championship positions (not Gold placements or Gold tees)and we will use the progressive drop zones on hole 8 for all divisions.

I have asked the course Pro, Neil to move the baskets for those who wish to practice the course. If they have not been moved by Monday, I'll do it then.

Those of you who know or play Cedar often, go play Zebulon. You might need it. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Skinny,
Cedar will play all divisions from the long (regular) pads. Hole 10s longest (gold) pad will not be used.
Do you play the short pads at any time other than the Cold Snap round durring the Ice Bowl?

I think we will have the Durham(Benson), Raleigh(Norris), Greensboro(Byrd), Greenville(Captain Idiot) and Kinston(Noble) presidents all at the same tourney...I am not sure of any other club presidents that will also be in attendance (sorry if I forgot any)...maybe we should have some wager (nothing big) or a small prize (disc signed by all the prez's competeting) up for grab...I am game and sounds like Norris is upto the challenge...

Why is that the case? It appeared that Ben Budd became a RADL member after qualifying for the team at Buckhorn. If that was the policy then MTL would of been the next place qualifier for this event.
