Hey Jeff,
Some of my boys are wanting to head up there. Can you tell us an approximate of what you are looking at for entry? We are getting an idea of how much money to bring. What do you have lined out for the silent auction?
Is all the money going to charity or will there be some payout, or trophies?
I'm in it for the fun, but you know these kids like to have something to showoff. As if there youth isn't enough!!
:D

jeffash
Jan 11 2006, 03:23 PM
I'm sure the entry will be in the $15.00 to $25.00 area depending on the division.
We will have some plastic and cash for payouts.
The silent auction proceeds all go to the Christian Food Room. There will be a variety of donated items up for auction. Feel free to contribute... /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
I heard that lazyfurdog was going to donate a pair of bronzed underpants. At least we're hoping that's bronze :D

Surely there must be something over there that I left behind in the woods that someone would bid top dollar for?...I know that over here Twoputt scrambles to scarf up every Fur-Pie I leave on the course. The ones I left at Horseshoe must be "pretrified" by now. Those have to be worth something. :D...Maybe you should call the Discovery channel and have them do an episode of "Furdog: Digging for the Pooh".

AlmaWillie
Jan 24 2006, 04:01 PM
I don't know where he got 8. As far as I know there will for sure be 2 boys from Alma there, TreeShark is still undecided about whether he can make it through such a long course. If anyone knows of any other juniors going please let us know. If you don't have a pdga number to post here call me and I'll put the number of juniors on here. I figure two juniors won't constitute making a division.
Also, I told them they had to go to bed early so the big boys could have their fun!!

can u tell me what time the doulbes start and the long CTP :D

Doubles will start whenver you want it to :D
Really!!!
The Friday Doubles format will allow teams to play whenver they want to, and as many times as they want to.
We'll have someone there, all day, to register your team. As long as you have another team, or two, or three..., to play with you'll get a scorecard and you can all take off.
After you turn in your scorecard you can register again and play another round.
Divisions and Cost ($10.00 or $15.00) is still negotiable.

The Long Distance CTP format is still in it's formative stages. It will probably run from 8am to 9am on Sunday Morning and will consist of a CTP contest running concurrently with a distance contest. The CTP basket may be as far as 600 feet away from the tee area, but reachable by players whose max distance may only be 250 feet. You may thank Sir Isaac Newton for inventing gravity. I've always wondered what people did before he invented gravity. :o:D:o

Whose autograph?

Aleksey "Boobs" Bubis

He may not be there in person, but he'll be there in spirit... :)

Maybe I should ask Heath to autograph some. I hear his autograph is becoming more and more valuable... :D

This has nothing to do with disc golf-
(or, maybe it does)

Five minutes ago, as I was driving along the White River, I stopped by the side of the road and watched 9 female wild turkeys eat gravel from a gravel bar.
Now, I'm here in my classroom getting ready to teach for half a day and then leave for Horseshoe Canyon where I will get to experience nature at it's finest.
It's days like these that really make me appreciate life, and where I am living it.
Arggghhhhh... there goes the first bell.

Hate to do it boys, but I am going to have to withdraw too. The weather already had me and the wife fighting over it, but then this morning she woke up running to the bathroom, sick as can be. (My whole family has been passing it around for a week now) Anyway, that of course shut us down for good.
I am so SORRY and SAD!!! Ya'll have to take pics and take care of my two juniors Chris Shelton and Dustin Watkins, as they are still planning on being there. Have a GREAT time and think of AlmaWillie and TreeShark at the first tee!!

Oh and by the way, this means there is one cabin opening up too. I'll call in around 9:30 or so.

Everyone have fun over there this weekend. Sorry I couldn't make it this time. This will be the first Canyon trip I have missed. I had not planned to go or rented a cabin and with the developing weather situation I may have let my cabin go any how.

I know it will be beautifull as always and Fish will put on a he11 of a feed Saturday night. His family is fantastic. :D

For all you boys in the Tee-Pee, better huddle together and make sure you have lots of wood.
I need to clarify that last statement, since you're from Arkansas and all that, "Lots of wood was ment for burning" :D

Now, let me see...I know the directions to Horseshoe Canyon are here somewhere.
Hmm... I wonder if I utilized the "Search" feature on this discussion board if I could find the directions.
Let's see...
I'll just type in "directions to horseshoe canyon" and see what happens.
As I'm waiting,, let me tell you what a valuable feature a search engine can be.
Oooops, no time- it's already done.
Here they are...

Directions to Horseshoe Canyon

1. US-412 East to AR-21 *Turn right just east of Marble
2. AR-21 to AR-43 "thru Kingston up the mountain and down into Boxley Valley" *Turn left and start heading towards Ponca
3. AR-43 to AR-74 * Turn right and start heading toward Jasper. Go Through Low Gap, and after 3 or 4 miles start looking for the sign (on the left) that notes the turn to the right that takes you into Horseshoe Canyon Ranch.
If you go past the entrance to Camp Orr you have gone too far. If you get to Jasper you really went too far...

From what I understand some beds in the barn just opened up too. The mom that was going to take my boys up decided against trying the trip with the weather that is coming in. I know she had at least three spots in the barn maybe four. So if you weren't going due to no room then there you go. My cabin is open and a few beds are now open in the barn. Here's a chance to go to IceBowl and have the fun that we are going to miss out on. If you read this and get one of these please let the lady know you heard it from me. I'm trying to finagle a way in at a later date up there, and they are not to happy with the pullout at the last minute. Which I can't blame her, but I feel like she'll rent them. Hope I'm right.

Well, the boys talked the mom into going on up there. They called this morning and from what I understand she is already regretting it. They have about 4-5 inches of snow (this is a guess from Chris saying it is up to his ankles), and they were wondering if it was bad enough here to get school out Tuesday. :D I think they are hoping for more days at the canyon! Oh well, they are there and they can play now.
I wish everyone there a fun time and a safe trip home.
Let us stuck at home know how it is going once in a while.

All I can say is WOW!!! What a crazy yet fun freaking weekend. It was cold cold cold but after 2 or 3 good drives on hole 1 it wasn't too bad. Not real sure where all the standings were for the Sat tourney. Maybe someone will post them. For all of those that chickened out they missed an awesome weekend. See ya in a couple of weeks when the frostbite is gone from my big toe. LMAO :o

Did anyone survive? Nasty driving conditions, ICE, snow, freezing temps, and baskets next to cliffs sounded like a bit too much fun for most.

Who braved the Tee-pee in that winter wonderland? How much snow did you all get? How many players?

Someone tell me how my two juniors did, Chris and Dustin? Did they get out yesterday? I haven't been able to reach either of them so I was just curious.

If you weren't there, then you don't need to know. :o

Heck, you didn't even make it out to Mac Taylor yesterday, whats up with that?

Still waiting on 75 degrees and sun?
You need to get out to pump up that 820 rating. :D

Inquiring minds need to know. I hold a record DFL for last year which gives me the right to know if someone has beaten my record. :p

As far as Mac Taylor goes.....It's not my fault that your wife kicked you out in the snow and you had no other place to go... :o...Since your so good at shoveling snow, why don't you come over and shovel my drive way?

And I don't why you're bringin up my rating. I got a 9.99 cooking in the kitchen this weekend........compared to the disqualification you probably got for early withdraw. :o

9.99?

Not bad but based on that score I know you were cooking for your self. :D

From what I understand, the last time you cooked a good meal for your woman in Arkansas she ended up eating out. :o/msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif :D

I would reply to that but I'm sure Lil Rhett is watching and I don't want to damage his innocence. :o

The canyon was awsome as always. We had 39 registered players, raised $1400.00 and played alot of DG.
Snowing and 12deg.at time of play. I got to play with Ash and two guys from TX. Fun round.
I think we were the last people out on Sunday arternoon. As 8 of us played the small course in the freezing drizzill, we watched two wheel drive vehicals line up the bottom of the hill and wait to get pulled out to the hwy. Once there your on your own .
As for us, we had 4wd and had no problem getting home. We did go out through Jasper into Harrison to the 412hwy. It added an hour to the ride but was less hilly and curvey.
As for the people in the tee pee. For some reason thay did'nt stay in it Sat. night.
The BBQ on sat night was great. Thanks Fish's parents.
Poker was played both nights.
Met some hardcore disc golfers(3 or 4 rounds of DG at the canyon, in the snow)
I met a 13yr old kid(Chris)from alma that lives and breaths DG. He's got game and is a putting machine.

It's too bad the weather kept alot of people away.

ICE BOWL...... NO WIMPS-----NO WHINERS

I salute the people that braved the elements and road conditions to come play in our true ice bowl at one of the best courses around. I hope all made it home safe.

I salute the people who new what they were in store for and still came out and played.

I would like to thank Fish, Jeff, Heath, Stacy for putting the hard work in and letting me and everyone else have a kick a** weekend.

For the ones that missed this weekend, all I can say is, YOU MISSED OUT.

I visited the TP Friday night and Jeff Gray, John, Cameron, Melissa, Adam, and a small, friendly dog were there, sitting around a campfire, or putting at hole 18's basket (inside the teepee) and having a great time...that is until around 3 a.m. when the fire got low. Jeff played reveille on his horn in the morning, but few heard it.
As far as scores, in the Open div., Heath took 1st, Denny and I tied for 2nd and Flyin G took third. The rest I can't remember.
I do remember that I had a hell of a time and it was an adventure in cross country disc golf. :D

Furthermore, a herd of goats wandered right up to the basket during the ring of fire. The Jeff yelled, "Somebody get a camera." So I got a shot of the goats just before Rob from Austin yelled "go" and we all threw and scared the herd off. Only in Arkansas. That picture has got to go on our website.

Hey Guys and Girls,
I am heading to Horseshoe this weekend asI had to miss last weekend for a sickness in the family. If anyone has a disc (or discs) they want me to look for let me know what it is and on what hole. I'll gladly return any I find that you identify or that has a name on it. It'll give my wife a reason to walk the course with me.

Also if anyone is just dying to go up there and can go Sunday night my cabin will be available. I rented it for 2 nights but can only go one this weekend. I can't get mumoney back or save it for another weekend so if you are free Monday and want to go I have already spent the money someone might as well use it.

Just post here, PM me or call 479-997-2192

That ain't how it works up there, willie. Horseshoe will rent the cabin again and collect twice. They did with me and Darrell last weekend. I found it rather confusing. Then again, if you are there and already picked up the key, then they can eat a horse manure pie.
