What plans does RADL have to enhance the golf scene in our area this year?
Completion of New Courses?
Completion of Cedar Gold?
Bag Tags? Does anyone still do this?
Even though I won't be able to play most RADL events, I will still join RADL just to help do my part to support Raleigh Disc Golf.
One idea I had for summer doubles is to charge $5. $2 entry fee, and $2 ace pool. The extra dollar goes to a back-up ace fund. That way if an ace is hit, then there is already some money in the pool for the next week. It will help keep the numbers for doubles up.
What can we also do to increase participation at monthlies? I know during the summer the numbers seem to decrease due to PDGAs in the area. Is it even worth it to run these monthlies during the summer.
Good Ideas Plankie!!!!
As far as the gold course completion I will work towards that, but we are not setting a deadline and the goal is to make improvements on an on going basis.
I have stepped down from the RADL board, but would like to continue my work as Cedar Hills Course Pro (unless there is some type of hostile take over). I will also be running the Grunt and Fling monthly at Cedar Hills (August pending RADL approval). To get more attendance at my monthly I plan to:
- Add cash to the Pro Purse ($20 from me as of now, definately will grow by August)
-Added prizes for AMs (probably some for Pro's too, this will be similair to the prizes given at the AM FDC's)
-Limit field to 90 players (tell only certain number can play and everyone will want to)
RADL should try to get a number of different players running the monthlies. After you run you 6th one for the year (I can tell you), it is hard get motivated to do all the extra's.
Good luck in the new year RADL, thanks for all you have given to me!

Just a suggestion from what I've seen in my new state - doubles entries are typically $5 or $6 out there. The MHDG does almost all of the maintenance and work on the courses out there. So the entries are broken down to say, mandatory $2 for dubs and $2 for the course, optional $2 for ace pot. I'm not sure where RADL gets money for the course maintenance aspects, perhaps there isn't any, but this may be a good idea to start. RADL can then own things like loppers and shovels that you usually ask for volunteers to bring.

Volunteers
Volunteers for what?
RADL does have some funds, but if we buy tools? Who keeps them, who tracks them ? etc.....
I (or other people using them) have broken 2 lawn movers, 2 shovels, saw off my brand new pole loppers, mini hand saw and a couple other things.
I would be happy with RADL giving funds for replacement tools. I am sure CHH can give us some input on this on past experiences with tools.

That's for RADL to figure out. In the case of MHDG, the president, John Bird, keeps the tools and is the one in charge of anything done to the course. Sounds very similar to how RADL has done it - Neil was always calling for volunteers to get out and clean up Cedar. The current president then would always be in charge of it. Of course, Bird also has the most time of the MHDG to give attention to the courses. So perhaps RADL could then have an office for some like, oh, I don't know, Walt ;) who is willing to be a contact and leader for courses.

Marsha said that she didn't know where the funds/tools for course maintenence came from and I said volunteers. That's all.

Do we have a proposed list of dates for the Monthlies this year?
I wouldn't mind running one, but I need a list of dates.
If I do run one, I have a good idea(taken from other clubs) on how to make my monthly different...
I would play 1 round of singles. The second round would be doubles. To determine the teams, i would rank the players from their scores in round 1. Then I would pair the highest and lowest scores together for the first team, second highest with second lowest, etc.
If there is an odd 3 of people, the person with the median score would play cali.
Yes....by ranking due to score, an int player can be ranked higher than an adv or an adv can be ranked higher than a pro.
Take the score from rd 1 and from the doubles round and get overall score for each person. Give out prizes based on divisions

i think we decided at the meeting last night that they would be 2nd sat of each month with the exception of the ice bowl.
And for your idea with doubles, might be fun - who knows. As a way to solve the odd man, if there is an odd man, you play. If there isnt, you don't. That was Todd Gilihan does for Piedmont and may I say, its a great idea.
Cool Walt!
Good Ideas all! So we are back to Saturdays and looks like K-wood monthlies are over so no conflict. Hopefully we get the word out to Sanfords, Fayettvilles, etc... so we don't have to many conflicts...
I understand there is gonna be a RIPT monthly in April as well. I hear the schedule and associated Flyers will be coming out soon....
OK. BTW Work day at Cedar Hills this weekend. SAT 10 AM Meeta at hole #10
New path for lefting on long #10... Move tee pad on hole # 12
Come if you can...

Hopefully he meant the short pad being moved back and right. It makes for a sweet anhyzer shot! We need more anhyzers in Raleigh.

True ! Also it takes it out of the runoff area, so the tee pad will not have a stream running through it when it rains.

Robert, I think you may have a typo.
Unless we had a vote while I was out for smoke, monthlies will still be on the second Sunday (except the Ice Bowl this year).

I am working to make sure I have all dates set right now and the courses for these events. For the most part the events will be on the second sunday. The exception being May. The monthly will be on the third sunday this month as the second sunday is Mothers day.
Plankeye if you are willing to TD an event PM me and I will let you know what months/dates are open. We would certainly welcome any and all volunteers that would like to run a monthly.
I am working to gather notes from the meeting last night as well and hope to get something posted about other news for the Raleigh Area.
