Anyone know when the Michigan shedule will be up? Or better yet, does anyone know of any specific event dates that are not listed already?

Is there going to be a Cracked Plastic Classic this year?

Answer my questions, and all your wildest dreams will come true.

Since this has it's own thread now, I'll post it here for the sake of completeness:

cross post from the other thread

re 06 schedule: I can almost believe a jan event for petoskey tho it'd be deep but a feb event at shanty seems like there'd be moving hazards around known as skiers- but I'd be happy to play with my skis on... maybe the no obstacle events wanted a few more obstacles...
no sign of the northern waters series yet- orc?- but I see wildman's new yetitech series spreads up to the UP, interesting...
and the flip city ice bowl could be fun
hmmmmmm.....

Larry Labond has probably been recieving pre-reg for cracked plastic for a couple of weeks now. He sent the email about the tourny to people on his distribution list sometime mid December.

I believe he is also changing what days the divisions are playing on. Don't quote me on this but I believe
Saturday the 11th is AM2 and AM3 and AM Master
Sunday the 12th is AM1, OPEN, and Pro Master.
I would definately contact Larry though because this is only my recollection of what I read a month ago.

I dont have the email anymore to be able to cut and paste it here, however, I do have a print out of it and it reads:

Saturday: Masters, AM Masters, AMII, AMIII, Juniors

Sunday: Open Men, Open Women, AMI, AM Women

Hope this helps. There was some issue with moving all the Master divisions to Saturday but Larry explained it was due to the event filling and turning away 20 or so players last year.

very true. It was a sad turnout on saturday last year and sunday was so packed that alot of people got turned away that didn't pre-reg. Make sure you do it this year.

If you would like the flyer for the Cracked Plastic, PM me and I'll forward it to your email.

Yeah, Northern Waters Series is still getting their schedule ready. We made a tentative schedule, but things are still getting switched around. The word is that there will be an early stop at Flip City most likely in April.

Finals will be Avalanche/River Road.

I cant wait to be able to play No Foolin as well. I love the Hudson Mills courses and cant wait to see what the new president and club have planned for this year. Hopefully a few more sanctioned events at the Mills and maybe a bid for another Pro/Am worlds in Ann Arbor :D

Looks like Kalamazoo is already trying for 2008 Pro/Am worlds:

***********************************
"I have had a few meetings with the Kalamazoo County Chamber of Commerce, Kalamazoo County Parks Dept., Battle Creek/Calhoun County Visitor and Convention Bureau, and the Battle Creek Sports Promotion Dept. about Disc Golf. They are all vary interested and confident that we can do a combined World Championship in the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek area in 2008. So much so that they are paying for me to travel to the PDGA Summit in March to bid on it. I would like to set up a meeting with disc golfers who would be willing to work on the Worlds (at any level) within the next week or two. I am asking for anyone who would like to find out more or is interested to contact me either through e-mail or call me: (269) 217-7356 and let me know. I would also like to know what would be the best time to have the meeting when most could attend. I am thinking of having the meeting on the 13th around 7:00pm. I will send out the exact location and time for the meeting after I start hearing back from people. Please start letting people know about this, especially those who may have not received this e-mail. I am also very interested in help from disc golfers and clubs outside of the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek area who would be willing to help out.

After the meetings that I have been having with these organizations, I am confident that we can do this. Most of what we (golfers) would have to organize would be the running of the courses. Which we are hopefully going to be getting a new course at River Oaks Park? The Parks Department wants to build the course but final approval is needed from the Park Board over the funding. River Oaks Park is located on Michigan Ave near Galesburg (it is only a few miles south of Robert Morris Park).

I could also use some pictures of any of our area courses that show the holes. If anyone has any that they would be willing to send I would appreciate it greatly.

It would be pretty sweet to see MI hosting worlds. Hopefully these guys get the support they need.

It would be helpful if the Kzoo courses had been evaluated with the new PDGA Eval form in support of their bid. Hopefully, the State Coordinator could focus on this to help out before the Summit.

A Kalamazoo Worlds would be cool. But wouldn't they need some more courses? Oshtemo, Coldbrook, Robert Morris, Kimball Pines, and Knollwood. Wouldn't they need a few more? Surely you would only have the lower divisions playing Knollwood.

Jan 10 2006, 01:45 PM
i would hope knollwood would not even be a part of it. plus wouldnt that course be a little harder to make sure there are no casuals since it is right on campus?
i think the idea of a worlds in K-Zoo is absolutely awsome. but it doesnt seem like there would be enough courses, unless people had to travel a bit. Kimball Pines is definatley world class, and Oshtemo is a great challenging course.
i would love to see it go through. i would definately beable to play a worlds so close to home.

Jan 10 2006, 02:01 PM
I think that at least one new course would have to be built, possibly two. From the sounds of it they are already planning on building a course at River Oaks Park.

If they had to do Worlds right now Kzoo is probably not ready. I would compare them to Athens when they made the Olympic bid. At the time they were not ready for the Olympics but built a bunch of world class facilities (anyone remember the water in the middle of the stadium?) in time for games which were a success. If this were to happen then we would have 1 or 2 new world class courses in MI to play after Worlds was over. :D:D

i think for a pro and am they would need like 8 courses. right now there is half that cuz i personally am NOT counting that dump they call knollwood.

Hey, come on. Knollwood has style. Just because the pond stinks, and may cause airborne illness doesn't make it a dump. I started on that course. You can't find a better 18 hole course on such a small piece of land.

They also have Begg. I have not seen it, only the newspaper article.

Also, like Walnut Ridge in Des Moines, one would hope that Worlds would be the impetus to redesign and tweak some of the existing courses, especially Coldbrook.

Coldbrook could be tweaked to make a nice 18 hole course. I like the alternate holes. Must be long hole D though.

That's awesome they are having this event, but are they gonna advertise it a little more? I think they should if they want enough women to show up! I'll definately be there and I'll spread the word to all the girls I know. But as of right now I only know the date.

Attention Michigan Disc Golfers!!!!

The bid is put together for the 2008 Jr/Am/Pro Worlds and Larry LaBond is going to be in Arizona for the bid conference. So far, only one other location is bidding for the Am Worlds and nothing else. I think We'll get it.

So here's my question:
If you know of anyone that would be willing to donate anything needed for us to pull this thing off (course construction equiptment, sposorship money, food, beverages, transportation, ....and the list is huge) let me know. I am going to over the next few weeks put together a list for Larry to take with him of people that support what we're going to do. Even if it's a couple of water coolers for a course or a chainsaw for the new courses we'll install, or even land for a temperary course, drop me a PM and we'll get with them.

Thanks and see you at the cracked this weekend!!!!

What tournaments are coming up that I don't know about?
I have every sunday off and would like to play alot of tourneys this year after not getting to play alot last year.

Where can I go to find this info as the pdga.com site is grossly underdeveloped.

bruce_brakel
Feb 16 2006, 04:22 PM
www.mdgo.org (http://www.mdgo.org) has a tournament schedule of every known Michigan disc golf tournament.

pdga.com has a tournament schedule under Tour. If you do an advanced search you can limit the number of tournaments displated to those from any states, time frames or tier levels that you are interested in.
