Here we go. There have been thoughts of a newsletter for many years. Well, Jerry Kingston, from Abilene, contacted me and we decided to quite thinking and get to the do part. It somewhat made sense that I write up the first several, just because I travel to so many courses in the area. So, I guess I'm the editor/publisher initially. Jerry will take over down the road, then ?, then?. Plans are to generally publish (totally electronic) about every two months, but can do less or more, depending on events/activities/etc. The primary purpose is to improve our regional communications. By this I mean that we have a better way to see upcoming events so that we don't have conflicting annual events. Since I travel, as do many others, I'm interested in weekly events as well. Updated contact information will be important for the times when a person is passing through for a course tour. These three primary items are the core of the newsletter (location, contacts, weekly/monthly events, and annual events). I've got a matrix started with this information in one easy to see location. Jerry and I have contacted many of the area 'coordinators' to get course information and to get a working e-mail list. Feel free to send your e-mail to me or Jerry. I have a list that is about 40 deep, but I bet most of the addresses are not working. We will also have other things such as my Powerpoint course tours (Sweetwater first I think, then Clovis, then ?)...I want to help these guys get established. We might put misc terminology of DG, maybe new rules changes, maybe course profiles, maybe anything related to DG. Thoughts anyone?

Give a big high-five to Patrick for taking on this project with me. Organizing and compiling all this information for the initial editions is a BIG undertaking. Thanks a lot Patrick :D

I am mainly dealing with Abilene, San Angelo, Amarillo, and those surrounding areas. Patrick, in light of his plethera of contact information, is covering the rest. But, either of us will take any information from anywhere in the area.

As he said, we want to get this region a little more on the same page than it has been. And, not just the main disc golf pockets...EVERYONE in the region. How cool would it be to see 40 people from the area show up one afternoon in Sweetwater for a mini? We want to let everyone know that EVERYONE is supported.

Any questions or comments, feel free to contact us.

Good to have you online Jeremy. We need to get local e-mail addresses for the newsletter. I've got a sheet, but just have not been able to get out to the course when everyone plays. On this, I could use some help (call me).

The first nesletter is in the production room. Reporters are gathering information. Writers are busy trying to meet a January 1, 2006 deadline. The circulation staff is having difficulties in getting (e-mail)addresses for a smooth deleivery. The circulation director is requesting that anyone who is interested to send the janitor/reporter/camera operator/writer/proof reader/headline writer/print setter/forklift operator/supervisor-manager/clerical/advertising/HR/marketing/editor/publisher a note of interest. If you have information to put in this issue or upcoming issues, please contact one of the above as well. :D

Volume 1, Issue 1 was sent out a few days ago. My list is at about 100. I had many e-mails come back: not a working e-mail or could not read or mailbox already too large or size was to large. I've worked some kinks out, cleaned up some things, etc. I will do a Volume 1, Issue 2 in a week or so (without the Sweetwater course tour due to it's size). PLEASE send new info, course info, contacts, and so on for the Issue 2. I'll then lay low until the next publication (Volume 2, Issue 1).

Thanks to everyone for the votes on the Newsletter name (keep them coming in, I will not make a new name official for a month or so). Please keep the comments coming in (continuous improvement needed). Finally, now that Volume 1, Issue 1 has been sent and Volume 1, Issue 2 will soon be sent, PLEASE really take a look at the open spaces in the course information table. I have run into dead ends on getting more information and really would like some help. So, make a few calls, send a few e-mails, dig a little, and get some information for the 'blank' spaces. I really don't want to leave anyone out in our region. Many of the areas are not getting the Newsletter because I can't find phone numbers OR e-mail addreses. HELP!

I hope everyone that wants a copy is getting a copy of the 'Chains on the Plains' regional DG newsletter. I plan on sending out the next copy around May 1 (give or take a few days). Again, you can help out by getting the local course information and sending a note to me. i think most areas are covered well (as in have contact information, course info, etc.). BUT, I've called and begged some locations for information or even an e-mail so they are not left out of finding out about area events (to no avail). Take a look at the newsletter gaps and see if you can help out.

Next newsletter to be attempted to be 'published' aroung July 1....send info on your courses in the region and send e-mails to recieve the newsletter (thanks Jerry for the recent ones). Also, Jerry will be taking over the newsletter in a few more issues. He's gonna do a much better job than I have. {Remember the BAB June 17 & 18 and then the Wild Hair June 24 & 25}

LOL...well, dont give me the prize just yet....

I plan on revising it a little....though, its in pretty good shape as it is. The main thing I want to do is try and get the course pages compressed a bit....my wife is an expert at Word, so hopefully she can help me out some. We will see how it goes.

Sent out the September 2006 Newsletter late Sept. 3rd. If you want on the list let me know. There is quite a bit of DG action in the region...Midland course going in, Amarillo getting more money, Lubbock maybe getting McAlister running, and many events coming up in the next few months - Big Spring, San Angelo, Duncan, and here in Lubbock. Please post the flyers that were attached to the newsletter!

Sounds good. Already been thinking about ways to try and make it better. Patrick has done a good job with the first years installments :D A big undertaking...but has gone very well. I would like to think the increase in overall turnouts this year was at least partially due to the newletter...but, maybe not. I know it cant hurt.

I hope to have the new issue out right around Jan. 1, then countinue them along the schedule that this years newsletter did.

Jerry's first newsletter was great. If anyone out there is not receiving it, contact Jerry. Remember, the newsletter covers about 30 regional courses in the Texas Panhandle, Rolling Plains, Big Sky, West Texas, High Plains, South Plains. Also included are a few 'bordering' courses in Oklahoma and New Mexico. In very recent travels....still I'm amazed at how little some players know about area DG. The Chains of the Plains nesletter is the key to keeping up with area tourneys, courses, etc. SIGN UP ASAP!!!
