View Full Version : Help Our 5-Time Legend World Champion!!
Hello Disc Golfers,
My name is Meredith Nichols and I am the current president of the WNC Disc Golf Club. Last Night, I received a phone call from Ted Williams (5-time Legend World Champion and WNC Disc Golf Club member). He called to inform us that he has recently been diagnosed with stomach cancer. He said that he was going to be operated on soon, but did not know exactly when. This is all that we know at the moment. He has asked for NO VISITORS, but please just keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Ted has been an amazing ambassador to the sport of disc golf. He has inspired many young players locally and I know he inspires players wherever he goes. It is time for the disc golf community to show him our appreciation and support.
I am asking for you to help him at this difficult time. The cost of medical expenses, living and travel expenses for his wife and family is not easy. If everyone can spare at least one dollar to help them out(but I know you can spare more), we can take some of the stress away from this situation. Please make checks payable to: WNC Disc Golf Club with the memo of TED WILLIAMS. We will deliver all cards, letters and donations directly to Ted and his wife.
Send donations to:
Ted Williams

Thank you very much!!

Just an added note.
Ted did not request this. I am hoping to surprise his family with the letters, cards and donations. He is truly a great guy and has earned his place in Disc Golf History. Lets show him some support.
Thanks, Meredith

Ted is the man.
Everytime he sees me he always takes the time to come and speak to me - It's quite an amazing thing to have a true legend in our sport come and talk to ya. Truly one of the nicest guys I've ever met (not only in the sport, but in general).
I'll never forget last year I went to Asheville for the tournament and Ted was sitting there. I went up with my dad (who is in his late 50s and totally grey headed) and Ted sees him and says "What division are you playing?" My dad says, "Oh, I'm not playing." Ted replies with a classic line.
"Well thats good news for you cuz I was looking forward to whippin up on you"

hope all goes well and let him know he is in our prayers and thoughts.
I went to see Ted today to give him a mini basket and personalized minis from the WNC Disc Golf Club. He is in okay spirits. Surgery is scheduled to be next week, but he needs to gain his strength to have the surgery. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. This is serious and he is 'One of a kind!'

You are in my thoughts and prayers Ted. I will be sending something to you within a few days Meredith. Thanks for letting us all know what is happening.
Just wanted to keep this thread near the top of the board... Best of wishes to Ted and Family
Hello all!!
One way that we are raising money here in Asheville is selling dx minis for $5. You have the opportunity to write Ted a message on the mini and the money goes to Ted. You can do this in your region too!! Send all donations and minis to my address and I will bring them to him.
Thanks to you all for your support.

Ted had surgery last week and is recovering slowly. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers...the battle is not over!!

I am so sorry to hear that. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.
Ted will be missed here in Asheville and around the world. He was a man with a kind heart and an awesome putt.
We will still be selling minis in his honor as a token of love from the disc golf community.

Ted was one of the nicest guys of all time. Every time he saw me he always spoke to me. I have a disc signed from the 04 worlds of all the world champs and he gave me a special signature of "NC 4 life" - that will always be special to me.
This is a sad day for disc golf...Ted was a spiritual leader in his Native American community as well as our disc golf community (and I am sure in many other places and amongst other groups).
I have spent a few hours with Ted and his family up in Asheville, and he and they are some of the most giving people I have ever met - whether it is of their time, energy, space, whatever. My thoughts of Ted will always bring me smiles, and I am sure that his influences on others' lives will be remembered for many generations to come, keeping him alive through our thoughts and actions.
Please say a word for him this weekend wherever you are...
His life said so much for so many years, it is the least we as fellow disc golfer's and humans can do.
all love.

i only got to meet him once, at the awards ceremony, 03 flagstaff worlds, which he won his division. he talked to me for a few minutes about his approach to disc golf concerning health, diet, and exercise so he could maximize his ability as a disc golfer. i really appreciated his comments and the knowledge he shared with me. thank you mr. williams, god bless you.

I will miss seeing Ted's smiling face as I pull into Richmond Hill for Tuesday Dubs. He was a True Legend in many ways.
