The tee posts, and mandos have been repainted, and the baskets are going to be trickling out to the long positions over the next couple of weeks. Prepare yourself for some three and a half hour rounds. ;)

I moved the remaining A & B baskets to C today. It's loooooong. This should make for some interesting doubles over the next three weekends. This is also your first day Picnic layout.

Big thanks go to Dean who weedwacked #3 and #9 C positions yesterday after his long Doubles battle. Only #13 needs wacking at this point.

Rich mowed the landing area on #3 to make the whole thing flat, and our park buddy took another swipe at both sides of #11 and the right side of #16 to widen those two fairways. Our group in yesterday's doubles still managed to land in the rough, but that's why we are professionals.

i played patapsco this past saturday and must say you guys have done a fine job with the course. i normally play codorus and boulder woods and shoot in the high 50's-mid 60's and am sad to say i carded a 71 at patapsco :( not my best outing, but it wa difinitely enjoyable, the course is very well maintained. the only complaint, or perhaps suggestion, maybe put bicycle flags in the baskets. without maps, a first time player almost has to walk the fairway to find the pin unless you just throw in the general direction of the arrows on the teebox, which we started to do as the heat index rose.... other than that, a great course, we will definitley be playing again.
one question, what's the average score on 7? i think it is 7. the hole between the one with the tee box on the opposite side of the road and the one with the tee box and immidiate drop off. we had a 4 two 5's and two 6's. what a tough hole!

All of those scores are typical for #7. It's definitely a legitimate par four. You either need to roll and get through some trees or hit a miracle air shot on your second throw for a shot at a three.

I raked the tees and dropped some fresh crush today, and marked the drop zones. Rich appears to have cut the growth in the trees on #13, but it must have been tough on the mower. It looks like a haircut done by your mother.

bike flags are a good idea. i've thought of that before. one of these days i'll actually be able to find 18 of them i can afford.

i'm not sure how deep your pockets are, but these are $6.40 each, in a variety of colors...i thought that seemed reasonable, although i've never shopped for bicycle flags before ;)

as a life long patapsco putter, i pledge to sponsor a couple of pole flags ;)

should we glue magnets to them, or glue the flags directly to the basket?

Your winter layout is set. If Doubles Troubles and an Ice Bowl are held (calling Jim Myers) this is probably the layout you'll be throwing. 16 baskets got moved, and thanks to Ray who was out there playing (and waiting for his $herando winning$) who helped me move about 14 of them. Also thanks to the Ranger who came by and offered us some rakes as we struggled to find 5B. After Rich and I install some new sleeves, we'll shuffle the baskets again. The current layout for those of you playing along at home is:

1-C
2-A
3-A
4-B
5-B
6-C
7-A
8-C
9-B
10-C
11-B
12-B
13-B
14-A
15-C
16-A
17-C
18-A

Another successful Patapsco workday; unlike the other local course. ;)

Rich and I shuffled the baskets into the Punisher layout which is:
1-A
2-A
3-C
4-C
5-A
6-A
7-C
8-A
9-C
10-A
11-A
12-A
13-C
14-C
15-C
16-C
17-C
18-A

I managed to get 1-A to work so no need for Rich's practice basket at the tourney. We were joined by Patapsco Putter applicants Eric & Justyn who loaded up Justyn's pick-up with crush and did an excellent job on the back nine tees. They have committed to doing the front nine in the next couple of weeks so the course should be tricked out. Thanks to both of the guys for the big help today.

can't wait till saturday. the course looks fantastic. the only "complaint" was the teepads were so well groomed, that the dry spell that we've had lately has turned them into dust. today's rain will make them perfect.

we played the blues yesterday and i got off to a slow start while jesse got off to a scorching start. i foured holes one and two, both after blowing easy up shots. jesse meanwhile deuced one on a 100'+ shot and nearly made the deuce on two as well. i kept blowing easy threes but survived 7 blue to C with a four vs my counterpart's sixes.

Freshened up the mando arrows today. This was the first time I really missed not having the truck anymore, as balancing on a bucket was not the good time one would normally think it to be.

I also pulled up the marker flags we've been using as drop zone indicators and installed some orange stakes. They are very visible and less declasse'. Also less likely to wander as some of the flags have done over the past few months.

I also cleaned up some assorted garbage. Not as bad as in the past. I'm proud of you guys.

Ray I PM'ed Rich to check on your check.

Spent the past two days out at the course dragging brush, and in a couple of cases trees, off the fairways in preparation for the resumption of doubles this weekend.

Right now I would rate the mowing as a C. I was planning on holding off on moving the baskets for another month or so, but I went ahead and moved 15 of them today to hopefully guide the grounds crew to where some mowing would help. As I left the park they were mowing and they were following me with some success. Curiously they didn't go and do 2-C. Hmmm...

The layout for the next few months is:
1-A
2-C
3-A
4-B
5-C
6-A
7-B
8-C
9-A
10-B
11-C
12-B
13-A
14-B
15-B
16-C
17-A
18-C

The course is starting to look a little trashy as beverage containers are being left. The next effort will be to clean this up.

i will provide a nice prize disc to the person who drags back the most trash during the doubles round. hawk may provide bags to make this easier or you can bring your own....

What are the winter placements typically like on this course (short / long / etc.)? I play it each winter when I come home for Christmas and it seems easier then the SSA (i.e. I shoot 57-58 and I play intermediate). Am I missing some of the long tee pads (I think I found most of the blues)? Is there a course map online? Great work on the course BTW. Thanks!

Bags can be procured as you enter the park and pay your fee. ;) They are hanging on a little kiosk next to the money slot.

Greg,

Here's an online map (http://www.geocities.com/meklir/Patapsco/patapsco.swf) of the course. Generally the course has been kept in what I like to call Satan's alignment which is 6-A, 6-B & 6-C pins. Course Pro Jim Myers has always said that scores should be about 54 for a pro and up to 72 for an am. Not many intermediate players would shoot in the 50's facing the 666 layout.

I drove in some yellow stakes on the unboxed tees today to end this inevitable questions when you approach #5 & #8 blue, and #6 & #18 red.

So where's the line?

We now have lines. Stay behind them.

The park mowed out to #11 C yesterday so there's a fairway to an island green. :DBe accurate. On the bright side we can start tromping this stuff down now like we did last year.
