It's all grown up and moved out of the house. We don't care about winning plastic or what our ratings are. We just desperately want to ca$h.

Aug 29 2005, 02:22 PM
shouldn't you two actually have a thread called "The Maryland We Only Play Pro Because We're Old Enough To Play Masters Tour"? :D

10 more years for me, but i'd play masters in a second if i were eligible. i do intend to play most events open in '06 however (i can hear you laughing).

Dick
Aug 29 2005, 05:12 PM
OK, you bash us for playing masters and then say you would play it "in a second" if you were old enough??

we would play open, but we need to leave those guys with some of their dignity! :D

md21954
Aug 29 2005, 05:34 PM
where did i bash you?

i rib you out of jealousy. jealousy of being old for that matter.

i always thought the last birthdays to look forward to were 21 for obvious reasons and 25 because your car insurance goes down. now 40 even has a bright spot-- a nice protected "professional" division to dive into. unfortunately, you two schleps can hide in GM by the time i get there. :p :D

i do intend to play most events open in '06 however (i can hear you laughing).

Actually that has no impact on us. The laughing your hear is coming from Pitts, Kim, Denhardt etc.

All this coming from a guy whose regular competition is a grandmaster. :D

All this coming from a guy whose regular competition is a grandmaster. :D

a grandmaster who seems to have schooled you here (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=5203#Masters), here (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=5036#Masters), and here. Geesh these are tedious conversations. He won by 10 which was an impressive showing. Then he won by two, and the third he wasn't man enough to play my division, so that doesn't count. Boyd, Boyce, Rich and I have chased him out of the Masters division because of things like this. (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=5153#Masters) He apparently feels comfortable competing with you however. Furthermore he should be beating all of us as he's been playing for 20 years. ;)

Dick
Aug 30 2005, 04:02 PM
ok, bash was too harsh a word. i apologize. how about tease? :D

don't worry paul, we all suck. it's not like hawk and i are ruling the masters division either. i kind of wish i wa sback playing advanced. entry fees were cheaper.

hawkgammon
Aug 30 2005, 08:15 PM
There's always Advanced Masters. ;) Someone's got to keep Jim Brazil honest.

md21954
Aug 31 2005, 08:14 AM
the day i play adv masters is the day i quit this game.

jim b is seriously baggin' it in there and i remind him of that at every opportunity. he can handle you two most days. he does occasionally have a blow-up round, but don't we all?

WHOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOO wap wap noon tomorrow!

Dick
Aug 31 2005, 11:23 AM
true, that's why i moved up. i felt like i was bagging in the adv masters. the choice was advanced or pro masters. hawk made me choose pro by challenging my manhood. who'd have thought i would have actually cashed!

Could of used Ski out at Patapsco today. I went out to play the reds since I'll miss Doubles this Saturday. While looking for my drive on #18 I hear some rustling behind me. Turning figuring it for a field mouse or something, it's a snake with some black/brown and gold/yellow markings on it. Where's your field guide when you've got a unknown snake 2' away and you need him to i.d. it?

more likely it was this species, which i have run into out there. usually they will play dead, but if they think that won't work they pretend to be a rattler...

sorry to hijack a patapsco thread. i will post future updates in the forthcoming druid affiliate club thread when i get that up (in the next week or two hopefully).

official sunset is 7:25, but we will START at 5:40 again this week because it is from the metals. the ace pot payout is approaching $300.

the weather should be perfect. i predict a -14 will be needed to win it, barring any pin changes by normie.

i hereby propose a tour stop at biscoe's hawk hollow. i've heard nothing but spectacular things about this course and fear me and my 885 skillz won't get invited to the team invitational (though i know i can hang with any advanced player aside from paco at courses like this) and probably won't make the october tourney. when do we go?

I'm all for a HH tour stop! Unfortunately, I'm not sure if our Hawk can handle the Hollow- he's never even cut his teeth on Paw Paw yet! :p

Seriously though, I'm down for the roadtrip. I have room for two passengers in my car- all we have to do is call John for the A-OK! When? When? Are we there yet? :D

Saturdaze are for sick days, so if we plan ahead, I'm in ! And I agree, Sundaze are for early rounds and afternoons filled with cheesy dips, nachos, salsa and chili, not to mention cold sudz and FOOTBALL :DAnd I've been to PawPaw once .
BUT let it be said, my priorities are Disc Golf 1st, then everything else. :D

What, No smack talk yet ?!?!

I can report that four rounds back to back at Seneca is NO JOKE. I think It has to be the hardest, most difficult course (in MD) with the long to long lay out. The Tourney was very smooth and VERY competitive. Lessons were learned and the bar has been set for next year ! Way to go Ross on another big win. I hope to see all you "Seneca Homies" at Druid Hill next month. And ANYTIME any of you Seneca Folk want a tag match at ROCkburn, come get some .

Sep 27 2005, 09:19 AM
Hey, now... it's not like four rounds at Patapsco back to back is any picnic, either... oh. I guess it was. ;) But long to long is just as tough at both courses, IMO.

Grange Monthly this Saturday 10:00. I think I'm heading South- the thought of seeing Hawk at Doubles brings tears* to my eyes, so I think I'll avoid Patapsco.

I believe there is a Monthly at The Swamp on Sunday. If Hawk shows up, maybe I'll let him win. But maybe not. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

<font color="purple">Glen Triumphs @ Druid Tour Stop.</font>

Four of us made it out this morning to play from the woods. Joining Glen was carpool buddies George and Ski, and Your Disc Golf Hero rolling in fashionably late. The Rif-Raf was out in force, so we were forced to start on #10. A series of 3's and 4's ensued with the lone moment of excitement coming when Glen deuced #11 after KC Rocing around the bend, and making the putt. :cool:Scores on the back were:

Glen-26
George-30
Ski-31
Hawk-33

Onto the front where real excitement ensued when I promptly opened up with a five on #1. :oI manage a brief moment of redemption being the sole discer to three #3. :DI did however brilliantly follow that up by being the sole discer to four #4. :( Glen then records his second deuce on #5, and follows that up by deucing #8. Between those two holes we all befriended a local pit bull named Diablo who took a particular liking to me, and there were a few anxious moments there where it appeared things were going to deteriorate into something like a videotape you can order online from Germany. Ski closed out the round deucing #9 after a less than spectacular roller, but a rather impressive 50'+ putt. :) Scores on the front were:

Glen-26 (52)
Ski-28 (59)

Dr. Evil and Your Disc Golf Hero Play Find The Tees At Rockburn.

We had one of our ultra secret practice sessions/gambling rounds this afternoon. It was a three disc challenge with each of us demoing the Star Sherwinder in the driver category. Rich also went with a DX Roc & DX Aviar Putter, and I rounded my bag out with a DX Shark and generic Pro Aviar. With no warm-up we followed Lexie to the general tee area of #1 and set off for a rounding of discing action.

On his first drive the Evil one hyzers :ohis Sherwinder off the left side of the fairway while I sail straight and true. A succesful up and out by me gives me a three to Rich's four. As we complete #2 with matching pars Rich taunts some rec players whose drives have landed in the standing water filled ruts on the road. :D Making friends and spreading love wherever we go. Rich pulls even by deucing #3 :) (does this hole ever change?) while I miss a 45'er. On #4 I regain the lead taking a four :( to Rich's five. :mad:On #5 a total meltdown seems imminent as Rich's superiour drive turns into a four  while I scramble from way over there>>>>> for a three. :) Muttering to himself the bald one sky hyzers his Sherwinder for a park job and deuce :cool:on #6 while I Shark my way to a three. Following up his recent success Rich Roc's down and parks #6 while I take the scenic Shark route for a four :( to his deuce. :DGoing for the turkey on #8 Rich turns his Sherwinder over like a $10 hooker about a quarter of the way up the tunnel. I follow suit with mine, but manage to double his distance. Rich's second shot is a debacle that crosses the fairway and lands in the left hand rough. Sensing an opportunity I masterfully botch my approach and also cross the fairway. All this ineptitude results in matching fours. /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Rich closes out the front nine Rocing and parking #9 while I stumble down the hill for another three. :( After nine:

Rich-28
Hawk-30

Looking to make the comeback I Sherwinder up the hill on #10 as Rich yanks his drive into the rough fortunately going on the correct side of the faded mando sign. I miss my putt, and Rich tomahawks out for matching threes. Fearing the headwind on #11 with only flippy Sherwinders we both gun some hyzer releases with Rich's catching some wood on the right side but kicking into the fairway. Mine roars right at the basket before it fades out pin high on the icey edge of the road. Deuce :cool:for me while Rich threes and the gap narrows. Naturally I yank my drive on #12 into the right side rough and have to sissy out across the fairway/luge run for a five :oto Rich's three. :DThinking that #13 is the perfect Sherwinder hole Rich's drive stalls out well short of the corral :( while mine turns to much and is short and over >>>>> there. My valiant Aviar out effort lands on an edge and rolls towards Rich. Another stroke for the evil one. On #14 we both hyzer our Sherwinders at about 45 degrees :p with dueling deuce putts. I convert mine :cool:while Dr. Putt zips his past everything. On #15 we both mid range at the basket, but we failed to execute, and ended up short and left (Rich) and really short and really left (me). My lengthy deuce putt hits metal while Rich sails past and misses a splashdown circle by 7". On #16 Rich crashes short and left while I hyzer up on my way to the B pin. Unfortunately the basket is in A. Rich approaches nicely for his three, while my deuce bid again hits metal. Birdies are knocking, but I can't open the door. On 17 I land 15' right of the basket while Rich hits a downed log and goes surfing into some rough. He threes while I (you guessed it) hit chains and fall out. Needing three to get out of this mess I call long on 18 and hyzer behind the screen near the B pin with no clear way out. Rich steps up and attempts to slice his nipple off through his shirt resulting in a yank of biblical grandeur that went that >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> way into territory where no one has ever tread before. It takes two more throws for Rich to be near the A pin while my only shot is a tomahawk over the screen which naturally fails to clear the last little bit. Whack miss skid later it's a six :o:eek: for Rich to my five. :( Scores on the back:

Rich-30 (58)
Hawk-30 (60)

The Star plastic is certainly durable, and I might put the Sherwinder back into my bag. It's always good for spectacular (good & bad ;)) shots.

Dick
Dec 18 2005, 12:40 AM
correction, on 9 i threw the putter.

also on 18 that had to be the worst yank of my life. my nipple hurt for the rest of the hole and half way home. i'm blaming it on the ice. or the starwinder. as you said some of my best and worst throws come with winders!

<font color="brown">In True Babe Card Tradition Two Players Battle For The Title. </font>

It was the evil one and your disc golf hero mucking around Rockburn Saturday with a dog, an odd deck of cards and a dose of merriment. With about four warm up putts each we headed out.

On #1 I quickly fell behind one stroke in this match play title fight as Rich managed to execute the drive/approach/putt trifrecta while I bounced my putt off some metal. :( Not a good early sign. On #3 Rich executes the drive/putt combo for a deuce :) while my new Star Beast and I continue to get acquainted. We spent a little quality time in the briars to the left of the fairway prompting Patapsco course pro Spinny to shout encouragingly,

Nice drive!

From there Rich uncorks a tremendous drive on #4 that lands dead center of the fairway near the first path to #5's tee. I hit him with the first RIPT card of the round cancelling his drive. ;) His redo with another disc is not as glorious leaving him in the right hand rough. He uses a relocate lie card to improve his position, and it all comes out as a wash in the end, but a psychological victory for yours truly. On #5 we had observed Glen and Jim's drives fall woefully short, so we give ours a little extra ooomph. Rich's landed about 30' out for a putt which he converted for the deuce, :cool:while I sailed over the road :obehind the basket way to the right for an adventuresome three. On #7 Rich unleashed a drive with a recently found unmarked Champion Shark which dives right into the ground about 40' down the fairway. Rich turns to me and declares,

It must belong to Boyd.

I finally execute a Shark/JK Aviar/DX Putter threesome :Dto win a hole while Rich takes four tries to get down and around to the left. My first fresh card of the round! :) Rich eschewed playing standard rules where a card is awarded on each hole for the CTP drive, so we were experiencing a dearth of cards. Rich exacts revenge by carding me on #8 forcing me to play the entire hole with my JK Aviar. My drive turns over into the right side rough, and my out is less than successful. Meanwhile Rich Pro Starfires down the fairway for an easy three. I manage to execute a rather lengthy approach salvaging a four. :p On #9 Rich cards me again forcing me to sidearm my drive. I use the Champion Shark and take a route through some trees that would not have been possible during the warmer months. My approach lands precariously close to the edge of the creek, while Rich's long putt bounces off the top to the basket and lands in the creek. :o:( Circle four :D to my plain four. Scores on the front were:

Rich-28
Hawk-31

On #10 I use a card forcing Rich to drive with a disc of my choice from my bag while I pick one of his to use. As Rich was standing on the tee with his JLS I took that and allowed him to use my KC Aviar. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif His drive was somewhat successful considering the plastic he used, and he fought his way to a four. Both my second shot and his third narrowly missed going in, which would have been some real excitement. On #11 I outdrive Rich in a session of Hit Stuff On The Right & Bounce Back To The Edge of The Fairway. Rich's approach is rather good, so I hit him with a cancel approach card, and he is unable to execute the shot a second time with another disc. I pull mine off for a three however. :D The turning point could very well have been #12 where my Sherwinder slammed into some evergreens about 30' up the fairway while Rich roars up the slope to the desired landing area. I manage to get there in two. My JK third shot is arcing beautifully towards the basket when it catches a limb and plops to the ground. Starring a five in the face I whip out my approach mulligan card and execute the identical shot with my KC, and the stiffer plastic successfully bounces off the same limb and lands in drop-in range. Rattled the evil one bounces his three putt off the lid :( for a matching four. :oOn #14 we both drive and make 10' putts for matching deuces. :) On #15 we both card each other. Rich declares the big tree down in the landing plain to be a mando that we must travel to the right of. I create a new tee in which we are driving through the little opening in the trees to the right of the ticket booth. Let the fun begin! ;) My drive with the heavy Eagle comes close to sweeping successfully behind the mando, but glides by a few feet short. Rich had declared a drop zone down in the landing area at the snow/grass line. Rich then attempts the same shot with a heavy TeeBird that is not even close to making his mando. Rich pulls out a drive mulligan card and retees with his red/white & blue TeeBird which he promptly drives into the creek. :oIt's a pair of matching circle fours. :D On #16 I decide to go for broke still behind by a stroke and skid my Star Beast up to within 6' of the basket for an easy deuce. :DRich lands about 15' behind me and a tree, and he takes two swings at his turnover deuce putt using his putt mulligan card, but fails to execute. :( Going into 18 tied I call long, and my drive is short, but I manage to Leopard up and around for a guaranteed four. Rich's drive is better, and as he confidently declares that he is going to put his pink Roc up under the basket for a three and the win, he throws it up into an overhanging limb resulting in a scramble four. Scores on the back were:

Hawk-29 (60)
Rich-32 (60)

It's playoff time! We trudge to #1 where I launch the Star Beast on what looks to be a line straight at the basket. Rich then again makes a bold declaration stating that he will finish the match here and now, and rips his Pro Starfire a little bit high up the fairway and short of where I landed. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif His long putt for deuce sails well past the basket and lands in the rough down near the shortcut to #2. I make a run at mine to stick the dagger in...miss...but land within safe three range. Rich's second long putt misses, and I drop in for a three and the win! :p :D

<font color="purple">857 Schools Your Disc Golf Hero at Druid </font>

Today's secret training session took place in the City where Paul and I practiced the 27 he intends to use for next Saturday's Ice Bowl. Paul was huddled in his Jeep when I arrived in the Silve Bullet. After a brief warm-up we headed out. The temperature was dropping and the wind was picking up as we started from #1's metal tee. The first move was by Paul on #3 when he took a three to my four after my drive was closer, but his approach was superior for an easier three putt. :( I thought I had a chance on #4 when I again have a better drive, but Paul recovers for a matching three. This soon became the theme of the day. After the first four main holes we moseyed into the woods to play the front six x-holes. I take another four :( to Paul's three on 1x after my second shot hits a tree and rolls way down the hill from the basket. My lone highlight for the round was probably 2x where I Leopard for a park job deuce. :) Paul quickly responds with his initial deuce by putting his Stingray slightly past 3x. :) Then on 4x his second shot hits the poll while I take the now customary four. Returning to the main course Paul bests me by one on #'s 5 &amp; 6 to win the front nine 28-33. :( Paul's putts were flat and straight all day, and it didn't matter what the distance was. It was kind of like watching a pitching machine.

The back nine was more of the same with Paul threeing to my fours on #'s 10 &amp; 11  After #12 we went back into the woods for the remaining three x-holes. After much hacking about a new hitch developed where on 9x I again have a better drive, but manage to combo that with a better approach leaving me with a 8' putt for three while Paul is going to take a four. I putt for three, but the disc rises and hits the top of the basket and plops down to the ground. /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif We completed the x-holes with Paul winning those 29-31. :(

Back out on the back Paul makes a brave downhill run for a deuce on #13 and connects. :cool:On #14 I again put together a better drive and approach looking like an easy hole win when I putt for the three from about 8' and the disc gets knocked down by the wind into the top of the bucket and plops to the ground. Paul wins #15 3-4 when he makes his 10' putt for three and I naturally miss my 15'er. On #16 Paul's drive dances through the limbs of the big tree on the right side leaving him a 12' deuce putt which he converts :cool:while I three putt from #17's metal tee with another 10' clunk job. :mad:Guess what happened on #17. I drive 20' closer, but Paul makes a 35' putt to save his three while I miss and make to match. On #18 Paul finds himself behind the tree short of the basket while I drive to within 7', but of course I bounce off the chains leaving me deuceless on the main drag. :oPaul took the back 26(54)-32(65). It only took us a little over two hours to play the 27 so next Saturday should be short and sweet.

Here's some generic information. I was at Seneca today while cruising around serving the public, and they have new discs in the ranger station. Star Beasts, Wraiths, Starfires etc. They won't be priced for sale until Saturday, and are currently hidden in a back office so don't storm the barricades yet.Your Disc Golf Hero did pick up a nice blue Star Beast though. ;)

Paging Mr. Zink. Will you and the lads be glowing on the snow tomorrow night? I'm available to make it if it's on, and doable.

Hawk,
Pine Grove Glow will definitely be happening this evening and we would certainly welcome a Disc Golf Hero. We actually look forward to playing in the snow because the bobber lights just plain look cool against the white background. There has been a pretty decent draw lately; seven golfers the past two weeks.
We have been meeting at the basket of the first hole around 6:30 PM. Rather than parking in the school lot, we have been driving to the townhouse development located behind the basket of hole one. To get there from the school parking lot: turn right on Old Harford, turn right on Proctor Lane (course will be on your right), turn right on Waltham Woods Road (past Weber’s Farm), turn right on Ebony Road (halfway down the hill), drive all the way to the back and park, walk down the path between the townhouse buildings (there is a motorboat parked near the path).
Hope to see you there.
Wayne

I will be out at the course on Saturday (time to be announced) humping the baskets into the Punisher layout. We'll have 9-a and 9-c positions. Rich will be bringing his practice basket to set up in the never used 1-a the day of the tourney.

If Rich manages to get out of bed we may play with the tees some, and do some general clean-up. I think the paint job from the Picnic is still good enough to last another month.

<font color="purple"> Team Grunt Defeated In Windy Nine Hole Match After Patapsco Workday </font>

After two hours of working on the course today Rich and I took on the new guys Eric and Justyn from the <font color="blue">blues </font> for a quick nine.

On #1 I Starfire us in line with the A pin while The New Guys had both of their drives flip over in the big headwind and end up in the ball field and beyond. My Rhyno approach nearly goes in as we take the three, but The New Guys make a nice approach for a matching three. On #2 both teams come up short for matching threes. On #3 The New Guys Boyd both of their drives while Team Grunt is sitting at the first left turn past the drop zone. Opportunity is knocking as I Shark us to the downed log while the New Guys go wide to the bath house. Unfortunately we botch our lay-ups :oand take a disappointing five :( to match their scramble five. A couple of matching fours on #4 as we all miss our putts for three. On #5 The New Guys take the lead when they convert the three while Team Grunt miss a 25'er and take a four. On #6 The New Guys both drive to within 15', but I answer with a drive within 20' which Rich converts for a deuce, :cool:but the new guys match our deuce. :) On #7 both teams bang their way through the woods for fours. On #8 Rich ThunderBirds down the fairway giving us a safe easy three while The New Guys drive short and scramble for a four. Going into #9 tied up Rich drives onto the road OB, and I stall out short of the road. Meanwhile The New Guys hyzer short of the road, and turnover within 50' of the B Pin. On our second shot Rich guns his drive through the trees to land 25' out, and I follow that with a drive on a similar line that lands 20' out. The New Guys tomahawk into the rocks behind our approaches, but make the putt for three. :DRich steps up to make our three putt leaving us tied after nine. Onto the playoff hole where Rich drives and hyzers over the road. I follow that up with the Thunderbird to about 30' short and left of the basket. Justyn steps up and hyzers his drive into a tree across the road where it nestles on a branch. Eric steps up and rips a drive that just clears the fence, and then glides along the ground and then skips to land 1' past the basket! :) We run our putts, but miss, and The New Guys take the win.

And big thanks to justyn and eric for helping out. together we got all the pins moved to the piunisher layout and the back nin tees freshed. justyn and eric had a pickup and did most of the tee work. hawk also managed to get the #1 into the a position and was postively giddy about it all day. :D

What exactly is "the piunisher"?

Probably not, but I'll work on it after your year long disc golf lesson.
