Was thinking the Condor is probably the perfect name for that disc.. but the cheetah is hardly the fastest disc on the market as the name may imply.. any others?

The Cheetah was the fastest disc out when it was released. The original Aero was the fastest disc at it's time. Got to put them into perspective to when they were released.

Isn't there a "Tank" out there? Not too many people think about throwing tanks far. :D

I thought that this thread was going to be heading in a different direction.

"What would be the most inappropriate thing that they could name a disc?" or something along those lines.

There is a small bird in Africa called the Dik-Dik. That would be a really bad name for a disc.

Actually its a small deer-like creature.

The whippet, Buzzz, no wonder we can't get away from the stereo-type :):D

:oLMFAO.

How about the Birdie? I have never gotten a Birdie with one and don't know too many people that have.

Blowfly also is kind of a weird, but somewhat appropriate name I guess...it does blow away with any wind when I try and fly it....

Oh, and Optimizer. If Optimal is a hard right turn into the ground, than that name is appropriate...

Except Clayton. He did 3 hole 18 off the mountain in Wimberly with only a TANK! LOL!

I'm assuming we've all thrown the Quarter K 250 meters, right? ;)

I have always tried to stay away from aquatic sounding names or things that live in water... Cyclone yes Hurricane Typhoon no.

Tsunami might consider a rename...

Should we rename new discs over old names because they were cool names but no longer relevant discs?

How about a Viper II?

The Duck would be a pretty pitiful name for a disc.

However that is what I changed the name of my approach disc to, after a tournament, where I sank it in a creek three times during the same round.

Some where out there is a bright yellow Champion Aviar, that instead of saying "Champion Aviar" it says "Champion Duck".

QUACK! SPLASH! :p

Come to think of it, how come one of the only Innova discs that float is called the "Dragon?" Do dragons float? Why not give an aquatic name to the floating disc?

Aug 18 2005, 09:26 AM
I think they name it the dragon, because those are as much of a myth as the statement "Innova Dragon's fly great, you should try one"

Aug 18 2005, 12:07 PM
Magnet -- those things never fly themselves into the chains for me. :D

The Orc -- this disc is *far* too sweet to match the picture.

Condor - It's a better roller than flyer. Should be called the "Steamroller" because of the trees it knocks down rolling along. :)

Aug 18 2005, 03:50 PM
If you want a disc with an innapropriate name, grab a Flick and a sharpie, and draw a horizontal line connecting the bottom of "L" and "I".

FLICK

cbdiscpimp
Aug 18 2005, 03:52 PM
In all reality though FLICK is a good name for that disc because a TON of people use it to throw forhand FLICKS :D Now I just need Discraft to come out with a disc called the Thumber and Ill be all set :D

I need a disc named the bush magnet after my round today. I put drives in open fields into the only available bush in a 80 foot wide 300 foot long fairway. I even took a practice shot with a different disc, flipped it over, and had it catch an edge and roll backwards into the bush.

I dont know, the sniper has to be the best name ever.... much more appealing then the gremlin.

Aug 18 2005, 09:12 PM
I'm thinking of... The Foil.... sounds like it'd be a sharpe one... kinda the air-foil thing... 'cept when it smacks a tree, I can say "Curses, foiled again".

Throw an MTA weight Condor and you'll see why that is as appropriate a name as a disc ever got. (well you have to know how to throw MTA -- aka: Maximum Time Aloft)

Aug 19 2005, 01:52 AM
I think that innova got it right with the second disc that they made that Floats the HYDRA

Yeah, they have done it right before and since the Dragon, but for some reason the Dragon just doesn't make sense to me.

Ah. Good Point, but I'm thinking of the 200g Greenwell/Wilchek thumb roller version. Bowling for trees.

Do dragons float?

Depends on whose mythology you're reading: Leviathan of Hebrew mythology is a sea dragon, as is his counterpart in Ugaratic mythology, Yam-Nahar; likewise, in Assyro-Babylonian mythology, the dragon-goddess Tiamat is the goddess of salt water (her name being composed of the Ugaritic word (tehom meaning "sea," and the suffix -at denoting feminine gender[/i]). Similarly, the dragon of Chinese mythology and iconography is called shui long, literally, "water dragon," and any number of Greek drakaina are hydrophilic, e.g., Hydra (from hydor, hydros, water[/i]), Ismenios, Ladon, Skylla and Charybdis, the Drakones Troiades, Ekhidna, Gorgones, Ketea, Thullai, etc.)

Why not give an aquatic name to the floating disc?

You mean like the Dolphin, the Hammerhead, the Hydra? ;)

Perhaps the second one you've come across, but not the second one Innova's made: both the Dolphin and the Hammerhead both preceded the Dragon (and I seem to recall hearing of at least one more model), so the Hydra would be no earlier than the fourth floating disc Innova has made.

I've got a Teebird that seriously needs to be renamed to Treebird. If there's a tree anywhere on the hole it will hit it. And if there's more than one it'll go for the one that makes me look most like a complete doorknob. :)

Um ... to quote Ken Climo, "It's not the arrow, it's the Indian." :D

LMFAO...for some reason I about peed my pants at this post!! Are you excited to have a disc named after your screenname? :)

Which of those dragons is depicted on the stamp?

I wasn't talking about the Hydra, Dolphin or Hammerhead. Those are named fine (actually, why don't the Stingray or Shark float? ;)). I was talking specifically about the Dragon...in a tongue-in-cheek thread.

The Orc - I would think ORC would be a heavy slow flying disc that fights through the Wind with ease.

The Spider - I don't know, I just haven't seen a spider fly. Although I have heard they can. When your sleeping and its dark.

The PoleCat - This one is just hilarious. I think it does not sale because of its name.
