Jul 29 2005, 03:31 PM
Monday, August 8th 5:30 pm there will be a group of us from the Independent Disc Golfer's League Of Various Experience (INDIGO LOVE) playing mixed doubles at Hiestand; every team must have one man & one woman...NO EXCEPTIONS Sorry, no pro players...this is an experimental league that will eventually become a full grown, traveling, handicapped league for players of all skill levels (including pros). For more information you can email me at Indigo3477@yahoo.com or post your questions right here. Hope to see you there!

P.S. If the turnout is minimal we may change it up and play a different format...like I said this is experimental ;) Regardless, there's always the ace pool $$$!!!!!

P.S.S. If Hiestand is still closed we'll be at Token Creek -unlikely from what I've heard

I was in the area and stopped by Hiestand on Sunday, July 31st. I heard a rumor that the pins would be in by August 1st. Unfortunetely that is just a rumor. I took a walk around the course to see what work has been done and what needs to be done. There is still large piles of limestone around a number of the holes. A pile of 4x4's still needed to be installed somewhere. The one good sign I saw was that the fairways have been groomed most of the year so weed infestation is at a minimum. But I would be surprised if the course is ready to go by the time the Madcity Opens starts...which is the end of August. Hate to say it...but I would be surprised if Hiestand opens at all this season.
Hopefully I'm wrong about this....but the work seems to be moving at a very slow pace. I wish I lived closer to the area so I could help out. Volunteers seem to be needed!

Hiestand will be in by the Mad City Open. How good it looks all depends on how many people help. Judging by the lack of volunteerism during the renovation process, I’m guessing it won’t look good. As far as I’m concerned, I’m getting sick of people complaining about how long it took for Hiestand to re-open. Considering how many disc golfers are in Madison and how many of them use Hiestand, the turn-out on workdays was pathetic. Part of the delay in re-opening was due to the city being slow with delivering materials, but a huge part has been the lack of volunteers. Todd, Brad, and Mike did the majority of the work. Don’t even think about blaming them for how long it’s taken. Blame yourself first. No one likes to do the dirty work, and everyone has a busy life. I think it’s really sad that some people can’t even offer 1 hour of time to help get the work done. If you are young, in shape, and a regular at Hiestand, you should really be ashamed of yourself for not even helping one hour. There were old guys (no offense grandmasters) and skinny chics giving their time. When the Hiestand renovation is done, the course will look really, really nice! Thanks to Todd, Brad, and Mike for their work. Thanks to all the volunteers who spent an hour or two of their time to help out! I hope the rest of you enjoy their work!!
