View Full Version : Mixed Doubles league questions.

Jul 26 2005, 03:58 PM
I'm trying to get a Mixed Doubles league going on here, with the intention to get more women, and new players playing.

What kind of things can I do to make the league fun, for them? Anyone have any suggestions or success stories to tell about Mixed Dubs leagues?

Here in KC we have a very strong weekly league program, but there is no doubles and definately no Mixed doubles. So I'm looking to get that started.

TIA and I'm sure more questions will come up after I keep digging around.

don't play best shot...play Alternate shot doubles. That way the lesser skilled person won't get occluded by the better player.

The way Barb & Terrill Paske do it is perfect. They have the partners switch between rounds. You play the first round with your usual partner. Then the male with the best score plays with the female with the highest score for the second round. The male with the highest score will play with the female with the lowest score. That way it evens it out a little bit.
Plus, they give everyone something just for showing up.
They also keep fun as the number one goal. That helps the new everyone really enjoy it.

What kind of things do they give away? How much is entry fee? Also is this weekly or monthly?

Thanks

It is more in the format of a two round tournament, than a league. They move them around TX & OK. However, I think their format will work fine for league play.

They items they have given away vary. They got great sponsors this year. Last year I think they gave away things more like a cute little bag tag. This year it has gotten better, but I have not been able to play.

Barb, where are you? Talk to this guy.

They are all over the board with links to their website full of info about their series. I would suggest you do a search for
the Barbarilla username.
I'm sure Barb would have loads of helpful ideas for you. She must be working right now.

or try the Mixed doubles format from World dubs...both players tee off-then each shoots from the other players lie-then choose the best shot and who ever did not throw that shot would throw from there-then alternate out...evens out the distance off the tee thingy

Ok here is the information on the Paske Partners Mixed Doubles. These are a series of tournaments ran in OK and TX. The goal is to promote more women and to have FUN.

We play 2 rounds of 18 holes. You bring a partner and you play with that partner for the 1st nine holes. You then switch partners with those on the same card for the 2nd nine holes (playing cards drawn at random to determine who plays with who - of course the women are the ones drawing the playing cards, after all these tournaments are about the women).

Both partners drive each hole, after that you play each others shots until the hole is completed and you record the lowest score for that hole.

After playing 18 holes, we put the lowest score women as a partner with the highest score man all the way down the line and this will generally give everyone new partners. This levels out the playing field regardless of skill level and allows players of all skill levels to play and have FUN.

The women compete against the women and the men compete against the men, you just have different partners.

Cost for our tournaments is $25.00 for the couple. Everyone receives a disc in the payout. The type of disc varies on their place of finish. 1st Place Women and Men also receives a trophy. There are 150 class disc available for the women.

We give out prizes as well from our sponsors which are all disc golf related.

Let me know if you should need any further information.

And Laura, yes I was working :D
