View Full Version : Improvements to Northshore

Jul 09 2005, 02:09 AM
Hey i was just wondering if there are going to be any improvements to Northshore(concrete teepads, removing underbrush, multiple basket positions or anything else like that) and what we all or I could do to help.

We hope to have all of these happen, but first we are trying to get out non-profit organization status and form a board of memebers, and have a definitive number of members so that the city can take us more seriously, then we will be on our way to have the citys' help and permission to do all those things.
But thanks for speaking out we need more people like you to help us get things done. ;)

Have we considered sponsoring baskets or holes. Companies could sponsor holes or baskets. They could put there logo on it or something like that. I can get some figures on advetising so we could charge them maybe just $10 dollars a month or more if they buy the hole thats looking at $180 a month and Over $2000 per year. Yes it would look bad on the top of the basket but a brand new course would look awful nice after 2-3 years. I am sure yall' have already thought about this but just a thought. Lewis and CLark, Play it again sports, Chick-fil-A, Johnson gas station, subway, southtown sporting goods. But fayetteville probably wont let us do that.

The dreams of making $120-240 per year / per hole are pretty lofty. I would suggest $25 per year / per hole with the company's name and small logo on the tee sign.

It worked in Stillwater, and having every hole sponsored is better than two or three!

I spoke with Connie Edmonston today to let her know how the MaceMan Doubles turned out on Tuesday- and to get permission to use my environmentally friendly cordless electric WeedEater out at Northshore in order to clear up more of those pesky nose hairs.
Connie told me that she and her husband have been riding bikes at Northshore/Lake Fayetteville a lot lately. She said that she really enjoys seeing all of the disc golfers, and how the course is evolving. Some of you were in my group, about three weeks ago, when they stopped their ride to rest, and to say "Hi", as we were playing the Saturday mini.
Connie said I could add the WeedEater to my list of "approved tools"- the hand scythe, hand loppers, and my legendary Fiskars Pruning Pole. She also thanked me for volunteering my time, and effort, to make the course look better.
After we talked, I went to the course and did some more work.
I trimmed up #1 and #2 fairways, and cut out some secondary growth on the left side of #2 fairway.
I cut out some stuff in front of, and on the right of, #3's teepad. I also cleared a lot of stuff that ran right down the middle.
I cleared out the bottonm of the cedar tree that is the first obstacle on hole #4. The broken, twisted, branches and limbs are now gone. The other undergrowth also. A disc can now roll, or slide through.
I took out some stuff near "Aleksey's Rail" on hole #6.
I did a little work around #11's basket, and then got some more stuff out of #12's fairway.
I have permssion to remove the Holly bushes that are trying to re-establish a foothold around #10's basket. I'll get them tomorrow morning- before the mini.
I think that the "city" would be really happy if the ground under the baskets near the lake (1,2,5,10,11,12,13,17), were "mulched" using the mulch that they've left out there.
No permission required for mulching- they are very concerned about reducing the amount of soil run-off that goes into the lake. This run-off concern strengthens the argument for installing alternate pin placements, as well as concrete, or composite tee-pads.

If they ask, they can help. :D
So far, in the past month I've been going out there, only one has asked...

So now, I'm getting grief for not asking people to help me, instead of them getting grief for not offering to help.

There is nothing that would have prevented the club, or any other individual, from doing what I have done over the past month. All it takes is effort.

Now ya' got me wondering if it's worth the effort...

^You left that out, keldog.^

I guess you could say I was asking for help, but I'm pretty sure they already knew about this.

You're getting on me for working by myself? Unbelievable

When was the last scheduled club workday?

Would you rather be playing the course the way it was before I started working on it?

Thank you for your kind words. ;)
As a matter of fact, me was thinkin' 'bout clearin' out around the base of 16's tree- leaving behind the stunted Cedar trees. :)
Me also thought that behind 4's basket could use some attention.
Me don't like getting stuck behind that stuff if me throw a big hyzer.
Me get up early. Me'll be there by 7:30-8:00.
Me hopes to see you, and any others who choose to help- if not me understand. :D
Me really wants to be able to use the word "We" again- that is if Ganzel will let me. ;) :D

For as long as you are getting out there at the butt crack of dawn, me is all you can expect (as in you). This me gets out of bed around nine on weekends, functional by ten, maybe. I have much interest in park maintenance, especially if it means getting the poison ivy out, but lets keep it real. Weekends are when (most)people catch up on rest, at least a couple of hours. Of course its always easier to do it yourself and then climb up on the cross and moan. Make one phone call the day before, to me. I'll make ten more and get the we out there.
