View Full Version : Z wasp?
Sorry for all the posts wondering about different discs, but I hate wasting money on discs that just live in my back up bag.
I may pick one of these up, but how does it compare to a Dx roc? I currently have an old and a new dx rocs but both are not quite stable enough, I'd pick up a drone, but afraid that might be too overstable. I am looking for something that has about the distance of a roc, or a bit longer, but more stable without being too stable...any suggestions?

Z Wasp is an overstable mid-range disc that takes a long time to get less stable. It is not as big of a pig as "the Drone" but it will hold a line through most playing conditions.

Thats may even be an understatment. I was throwing the Drone in Bowling Green this weekend. Throwing it hard into 30 mile an hour head winds and this thing held like there was no wind at all :D This and the Venom have both found places in my bag :D I do have a Z Wasp as well for the non windy days.

Your wish list for a disc is exactly how a candy Wasp flies in my hands, which is why I carry one in the bag. The only other discs that I know of which will do that are certain fresh, max-weight Ching Rocs and the 2001 USDGC Rocs. If you need a disc just a bit more stable than those, try a Millenium Sentinel.

Thank you all, sounds like I'll be up to 4 mids in my bag, at this time last year I just had one.

2001 USDGC Rocs....$$$$$
Z-wasp reasonable priced and just like a USDGC Roc, even the 2005 (non SB).
The Z-Wasp is my favorite Midrange disc, I use it for anything from 270-350ft. Very versitile. Another disc you should try is a Flat Z-Buzzz. These are stable enough to not flip over like a Roc, but have very little fade. The only problem I have ever found with a Z-Buzzz is that they skip when they land. The Z-Wasp because of the bead, will not skip.

One disc that you should seriously consider that has yet to be mentioned is the Champion Shark. I too was looking for the exact disc you have describe, and I have tested every premium plastic midrange fairly extensively. I finally settled on the Shark (the Z wasp was definetely its closest competitor). I have thrown several different ones (different champion blends) near or at 180g and they range in stability from hard-core overstable to slightly overstable. They NEVER get flippy and fly much more like a dx Roc than a Z Wasp, which is faster and has less (almost none at all) glide. Another advantage to the Ch. Shark IMO is that it is medium speed stable, where a max weight Z Wasp is medium speed overstable. Neither of these discs fulfill the role of a hard-core headwind beating mid, but at max weight both hold up pretty good as drivers in moderate winds and approach discs in moderate to heavy winds. For insane wind check out gators, drones, and demons. Before you settle on the Wasp, give the Shark a good try.
1st Run Zwasp is definately more overstable than the current Zwasps.

Fo Sho. The newer runs are a wasp/buzz mix it seems. I'll call it a wuzz, and use it in a sentence...It wuzz my favorite mid disc.
I have to agree about the shark. With 30+ mph winds in Blowing Green I threw only the champ shark for my mid and it worked great. I only used 3 discs in the wind tho.

You gotta be kidding, a wasp will not skip because it has a bead on it? Do you smoke crack? If it were not for this message board I would not laugh nearly enough...lol

As I was comparing the Wasp to the Buzzz.....yeah the Wasp won't skip. Every disc will skip to a certain degree, even a Rhyno putter will skip.
I was just highlighting a difference between the discs, even though, as you pointed out I did it poorly. My bad...... :p

I find that wasps skip more than buzzz', it is a matter of stability and doesn't have anything to do with having a bead.

Z-wasps are great.. I gave my brother my First run with ghost stamp and my FLydye later run...
They are great for long hyzers... that's all i found a use for them for.. I just use my buzzz for everythingnow, but the Z-wasp is Really nice and Durable as hell...

I don't know. From work it was reset, but at home it is normal....I think. I tried PMing Theo Pozzy about it, no response yet.
