Mar 30 2005, 11:42 AM
Hello all. A major refurbishing of Hiestand disc golf course will soon begin. The projects will include filling in crushed limestone around the tees, grass seeding, and the construction of some stairs as well as an elevated green area on hole #5. We hope that those of you in and around the Madison area with some spare time can help make a difference in repairing the course. We have organized some work dates and even a picnic/work day on worlds biggest weekend. All work days start at 9 AM. Also please bring what tools you have if possible( shovels, GARDEN rakes, spades etc.) The dates are as follow.

April 3/April 9-10/April 24/May 7-8/ May 14(picnic)

The May 14th date will be a course work day with an afternoon picnic for all workers. The club will provide burgers, hot dogs, and other grillables. As well as some pop and water, BYOB. We will also do some fun frisbee games after lunch for prizes. Prizes will include bag tags for the up and coming Mad City bag tag challenge, as well as raffle tickets for our AWESOME raffle we will be doing at the Mad City Open this summer  . Please come help support!!! The more help we get, the sooner the course will go back in the ground! :D:cool:

Progress is going well during the renovation of Hiestand. Seems like with every passing day the city parks are working with us and helping more and more. We should have the baskets up at Elver in about 7-10 days. Hopefully that will deter the 100-200 golfers that are currently plaing Hiestand even with no baskets!!!! We need the grass to grow, and the only way to let that happen is to reduce the traffic to a minimum. We will still be doing the picnic on the 14th of May for anyone that wants to come out and help. The club will provide a free lunch to all helpers. So please come support the effort!!! :D

We recieved a bunch of crushed lime this past week for the areas on the front nine. The front nine is almost complete, but the back nine still awaits. Fortunately most of the work to be done was on the front nine. We hope to reopen by July. If anyone is interested in helping in thier spare time please contact me a president@madcitydisc.org. Anything would be helpful. :D

Greetings all. I'm sure a lot of you are wondering when Hiestand is going back in. Well we are about 85% done now and the finish line is in sight. We hope to have it back in the ground by around July 14th. Most of the prep work is done and now we are just waiting for the city to deliver more crushed rock. This last saturday many of our club members came out and helped, thank you very much to everyone who came out. Yesterday Brad, Mike, Ira and I spent from about 10 AM til 8 PM working on the elevated green on hole # 5, and we finally got it done. The only major things left are the path between hole 7-8, and hole # 15 short tee area. Anyone can log on to madcitydisc.org to see an updated chart of the improvements. The course is looking great and I can't wait to play it!! Once again if anyone is interested in helping please click the link in the previous post to contact me and I will let you know when we will be out there woking. Thanks again to all those that have already helped!!!! :DHappy flights to all!

So Hiestand won't be ready for the 4th of July weekend? Just want to make sure I don't miss a chance to play the new & improved course while visiting family.

Thanks for all your hard work. I went to the website and looked at all the work you are doing. I'm going to need to visit my parents more often. ;)

Yeah, it is looking like the course should be ready to open by the begining of Aug. Hopefuly earlier, but we are waiting on the city to bring us the rest of our materials. It is looking good though, and the course really needed the time to heal. Can't wait to play myself!

Great great stuff!!! I can't wait to play it. I live in Janesville and keep coming up to hiestand to play and its never been open so I've been pretty disappointed, haven't really checked out any of the improvements so far but I can't wait to go check it out!

Well, after a long summer of hard work and waiting patiently for the city to deliver the needed materials, Hiestand is finally back in the ground. Not all of the work is 100% done, but enough has been done to get the course into playable condition. The rest of the work to be done should be completed in time for the Mad City Open. The course is looking good, and with a little more rain should come full circle by this fall. I want to extend a big thanks to all who have helped in this project. It was absolutely essential that this project was done to ensure the future of disc golf at Hiestand park. I helped spearhead and organize this effort, but I have to give most of the credit to Brad Wendt. His resources and communication with the parks department were the lifeblood of this entire operation. Without those things, this renovation would have only been a pipedream. Big Thanks Brad!!!! This comes as no surprise as Brad was the one who designed and had Hiestand installed to begin with. Once again a BIG thanks to ALL who helped, you know who you are!!!! For those who have been complaining about the course not going in sooner, consider making an effort to try and help. It doesn't matter if it's only an hour or two, anything helps. If EVERYBODY just did a little, we could get a LOT done! If anyone wants to help, contact info for club members can be found at www.madcitydisc.org. (http://www.madcitydisc.org.) Anyways, enjoy the golf and keep the course clean!!!!!!
