how much are they goin for Bob?

BobHarris

Can you tell I'm into t-shirts? Lots of designs for the future.
I'm also the club treasurer, so it is imperative to keep club fundraising efforts separate from my personal fund raising efforts(clubs monies vs. my own investments)---I'm also an Innova Promoter with an agreement to NOT profit personally.
But, I CAN utilize that promoter status to generate monies for the club and offer club members product at a savings-and, again, allow the club to profit.

I expect a very limited run of CFR's to arrive soon, purchased by myself, to raise money for some type of Denny Reaves memorial (just an example of what I like to do) ( If you have an original NWADGA InnColor, you may want to talk to me). T Shirt Designing related to disc golf is something I'd like to do to raise monies for club members( to the nature of proceeds going for entry fees) It'd be great if we could do it for everyone who wanted to represent Arkansas at the higher level tournaments. I am willing to work out a way. BUT, remember, the NWADGA's focus at this time is JBHunt. We can't expect the Club to start sponsoring players(YET)! The club members, casual players, all disc golfers, need to share in the efforts of obtaining larger sponsors. It is so easy for a business to write a check to the City of Springdale(501c3) account earmaked for the Disc Golf Course at JBHUNT, get their receipt, write it off their taxes as a charitable contributuion, AND get free advertising for the life of the course. YES, we have an elected board of eight. A selelct few of those raised over $500 last Saturday by holding a garage sale. Sold Krispy Kremes, Ice Cold bottled water, and a bunch of donated items. While significant, it is peanuts in comparison to our efforts/needs to build Arkansas a FINE disc golf coarse in Springdale.

T- shirts were as last minute as Krispy Kremes the morning of.
I ordered them and paid overnight shipping (never again) just to have them in time for the garage sale. In effect, it was a test. To see if between ourselves, disc golfers, Arkansas disc golfers, (you see no reference to NWADGA) there might just be enough interest to pay someone's entry fee to represent our state at the higher level tournaments. The verdict is out!

Hanes Heavyweight White Cotton T-shirt $2
Custom Printing $4.50
Shipping overnight (stupid)- $2.15
Total cost of T-Shirt $8.65
9 sold at garage sale at $10 per shirt netted $12.50 for JBHunt
I bought 2 additional and gave to Teresa and Alexandria- PRICELESS to see the look of gratitude on their faces :D

Any donation over the purchase price of $8.65 will go to Ms. Mero. If I do a better job next time (of course there needs to be demand) I'd love for this idea to blossom.

I learned that XL's are popular (none left of the original 30 ordered. All of the remaining 19 are men's small, medium, large, and 2xl.

Thanks for asking.

Afterthought: It would tickle me to death to order 100 more shirts and send Stacy, Shawna, Amanda, etc to represent.
Maybe even Ash or Bailey to LaMirada, get the picture?

You get some of those shirts to HOTB and I know I'll take one and maybe 2 or 3. You have some great ideas and I agree totally. I'll do all I can to help get this rolling, as we do need to get some representation out there in the BIG tourneys, and really need to help get more ladies into the sport!!

Hope to see you soon!

And GOOD LUCK Alexandria!! It should be an AWESOME experience!

This is a joke for serious players, but serious for beginners, or people who are serious about getting new people started.
The Wal-Marts in Alma and Van Buren have disc golf starter sets on clearance for $12 at VB and $14 at Alma. They are the Frisbee brand discs that Wal-Mart started carrying last year, which are ridiculously understable (even for my weak arm). But this is a whole set with a driver, midrange, putter, mini, bag, towel and instructional DVD. Definetely a good buy for a newbie. I got one, and am planning on picking up a few more when they drop to $10, for kids at school.

I don't know about any other wal-marts, these are the only ones I have been to lately.
Just thought I would let folks know.

Randal
Aug 06 2008, 11:52 AM
Wal-mart entered into a contract with whamo about 3 to 4 years ago to supply them with disc golf discs. that was Wal-marts way of testing the water for disc golf, and as you can see it didn't go well. they cant even give it away. and we wounder why Wal-mart isn't so eagar to jump into our sport.
considering a majority of disc golfers shop there, I cant understand why not, maybe we should tell them it's camping gear, clothes and grocerys we purchase not crappy plastic from a has been company who turned its back on the disc golf comunity in the 80's just when it was about to take off. I beleave they said there was know money in it, but now that they see how big we got, they decide to use thier influance with Wal-mart to get them back into the game and Whamo possable great future sponser for our sport gets a black eye. thank you Whamo once agian for leting us know what your really in it for $$$$$$$

Randal
Aug 06 2008, 01:39 PM
I've seen them before there marker targets you set up your self. they're not baskets and I'm not sure if they come with discs or not. about as fun as a kroka set you set it up in your back yard once or twice and you never play with it again

Smitty2004
Aug 06 2008, 03:57 PM
There are 4 Wal-Marts in Kansas that have discs. Hays, Great Bend, Pratt, and Emporia. Hays, Pratt, and Great Bend are supplied by Discs Unlimited and Emporia is supplied by Innova.

Wham-O actually does make a mini golf set that has a small plastic basket and mini discs with it. You can find them easily on E-bay, and I have seen them on a few of the disc golf retailers online. It would be fun for kids.
As far as the wham-o discs they are definetely, as Randal said, some crappy plastic. They are very easy to warp and to knock chunks out of. But, for beginner kids and women they are pretty good discs to start with: very cheap (especially on clearance with bag and mini) and very understable (good for weaker arms).
As Tom Pitchford used to say: "You can play wth any disc once you learn to throw it!!"

This is a quote from Brian Schweberger copied from another thread. Since the TDSA Forum is the BIGGEST and most used club forum on this site I figured I'd try to give this movement more legs!

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Billy Crump and Brian Graham have contacted Mike and Mike on ESPN thru the PDGA. They are trying to get them down to The USDGC this year and do a live feed during the event.

We need your help: to whomever reads this post, if you could just send an email to them and give them some good reasons why they should come down to The USDGC.

I am going to be emailing them several times a week giving them different reasons why they should give DISC GOLF a chance.

Billy wants thousands of emails to flood their computers. This could happen with enough effort from our community of Disc Golf.

The email is Mike and Mike (http://espnradio.espn.go.com/espnradio/email)

Thanks for all of your efforts

I dont have either of the #1's I have wafda tag 3 and no state because I lost it out at ben geren a while back and saw no point in purchasing another one when there was no tourney that connected with it. And i also have never purchased a donkey tag this year either which would make it impossible to ever have #1 donkey tag. The last time I had the number 1's was before alma and ever since then i have not seen them any where around this area. It was a great time getting to spend the day discing with Larry Q. Daryl and Blake Bailey, Barry Joe, Wookie, and Kenson.

The course on the other hand was a disaster. For a pay to play course maybe they should just stick to climbing and horses. Chest high grass, baskets broken, moved, or knocked down. Tee pad markers were thrown around or missing altogether. To top it all off they called me the day after we got home and are trying to charge me for a second day, when the entire time we were there we could not find one person that worked there to find out check-out times etc. the office was locked the entire time. I know everyone is in love with this place, it is beautiful country, but i could spend my time and money disc golfing anywhere else but Horseshoe Canyon. Needless to say, i will not be attending the Twisted Flyer event, but if i were Twisted Flyer affiliated i would be sure that the course is in order before you pay them for anything.

Heath
Sep 03 2008, 04:49 PM
Be very careful with your comments about Horseshoe Canyon. For starters the course is not "open" during this time of year. They do however "allow" players to come on the property during their peak season.

This is an operating dude ranch, catering to families willing to shell out the $3000 + to come an enjoy the rustic adventure.

The course is OPEN during the fall of the year when the local goat herd can control the winter growth. I beleive the actual dates for the course being open begin in late October and end in late March.

Now as far as not being able to find anybody, can't answer that. Check-out times I'm not sure of but would naturally assume them to be similar to most hotels (in at 2 out by 11?). But you'd also expect somebody to be around to help you. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience with them and the course. I tried to tell you this wasn't the time of year to go to the Canyon.

It was however a beautiful day of golf at Beav-o-rama. Sorry you couldn't make it. The course was immaculately manicured, greens mowed and raked, cold beer, manicured rough, good times and money raised.

As far as having money to spend for disc golf let me recommend the Twisted Flyer Open at The Lodge in Pawhuska this weekend. Camping is available, their is a clubhouse in which Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner will be available. A bandstand with live music, probably some open Jam session times in the evenings. This place is very manicured and is quickly becoming the "go-to" disc golf destination in the central US. I would HIGHLY recommend making the trip over.

Not to mention the $20,000 hole in one shot. 301 feet, wide open driving range. Raffles, rings of fire and all sorts of other joyous activities. Give me a call. The whole family is heading over for this one.

evandmckee
Sep 03 2008, 05:34 PM
Right on with Horseshoe Canyon, it is SEASONAL, during the late fall into spring you can't beat it, other times of the year it gets overgrown because they are a Dude Ranch and not concerened with the Disc Golf course, we're lucky that they let us play there

I'm truly sorry that you had a bad experience, but please trust us when we say that you will not be dissapointed if you attend Canyonfest in November.........after you hear all the stories you may be dissapointed if you don't go, 70+ golfers on private land in beautiful country that happens to be home of a championship caliber course can lead to some unforgettable memories

give it another chance when the time comes :)

Heath
Sep 03 2008, 05:38 PM
In the mean-time. The TFO is at The Lodge in Pawhuska, OK. I can assure you there is no lack of hospitality or course care at the Lodge.

Did I mention $20,000 hole-in-one????

Redde2throw
Sep 03 2008, 08:50 PM
i have heard great things about the lodge. i can't wait to go. do they have a pool there?

i get that horseshoe is a ranch, i have been there before, and i had fun. i had fun this time, but it has lost it's allure over what i have been dealing with over the last few days with the management there. if i'm going to pay to play, and pay to stay, i would rather spend it somewhere else. i love twisted flyer tourneys, they are the best, but i have to miss this one. can't make the lodge this weekend, but i would love to go some other time.

i'm in the hospitality business myself and i understand what businesses go through that are trying to accomodate people. the folks i dealt with at horseshoe hopefully were not representative of the whole organization. I can do the simple thing for myself and family and never go there again. I don't like Horseshoe Canyon. I like the scenery, I don't like the course or the staff that i have met. I choose to spend my money elsewhere...case closed. :p

DaWookie
Sep 03 2008, 10:20 PM
By the way Reddey did beat me that should have been priceless enough.

P.S. I have never been informed of any open dates the course is open or not open. If they expect money to play it, it should be playable. If it is not playable then they shouldn't ask for extra money from cabin users. All I'm saying is it would be nice to have a little communication on the status of the course not just having people tell you to watch what you say about a bad experience.

P.S.S. I did drive pin high on the new hole 18

Heath
Sep 04 2008, 06:43 AM
Wookie, I told you Friday that it was a bad time to go to the Canyon and offered you a better option.

I have never been asked for extra money to play the course (I have always given my fee to them or put it in the box by my own choice)
I was under the impression that there wasn't any staff around and that everything was locked up, so who was asking for the money.

You've been there during "Season" and you know that everything is in good shape during that time period. Don't you think that as much as some of us like Horseshoe that we would have jumped on going over with you guys? Or maybe did it make you wonder why we only have events there during the winter months - November through February. It's cold then, the briars and grass are dead, so are all the ticks, chiggers and snakes(well the snakes aren't dead, just not around to bite).

Sorry that you had a bad experience, I would think that your prior visits during "season" would temper some of your harsh comments (seriously who asked you for money to play).

Sorry that Jason beat you (way to go J)

Congrats on getting it pin high on 18. Where is the new pin placement?

Last words: Bailey should have known better!

Heath
Sep 04 2008, 06:55 AM
Again, sorry you had a bad experience. I am fully aware that you are in the hospitality business. I hope for your business sake that not everyone whom has a bad experience with you or your staff or didn't like their meal, doesn't just write you off permanently.

That being said, it sounds as though you have made the best decision for you and your family and no one can blame you or fault you in your decision, it's yo' money and yo' time.

The Lodge does not have a pool. They have several ponds, one of which is used for swimming and boating. The do have one cabin on the water as of now and a RV trailer. Most people camp, and there are also a few hotel/motels in the town of Pawhuska.

Sorry you can't make over there this weekend, this will be one of the best Twisted Flyer events to be held at the Lodge. Jim does have a Myspace set up for the Lodge.

I'll shoot you a PM with some more info.

I didn't have a bad experience I just shot bad it was like playing the burly Colorado courses at ski(snowboard) slopes which they also make you pay to play and don't maintain. My point was that I did not know that it was a play to pay.

The new hole 18 tee is just past the top road that leads to the upper deck cabins right on the corner there. It shots down to the open field in between the cabin and office there. It's about a 800 foot shot which is blind to traffic on the main road. Joe might want to have spotters there or change the hole. It's a sweet hole just dangerous.

I would definetely pay to get my Max back that is in there, and pay a pretty good sum too. I still haven't got a new one that will do what that one did for me! You know, if you have to dive for them and really work at it it would be a bit different, and I could see some hardship in just giving them up. But just walking a muddy bank and grabbing them up is another thing. Calls should be made on those discs, and hopefully the person who got them will realize this too.

Hey,
Just wondering if anyone knows anything about an ultimate players club or group in the area? I have some kids at school who are hooked on the idea of ultimate and want to see some folks "really" playing it. I would like to hook them up so they could see a practice, and might even look into having a group come do a demonstration for the PE classes. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

Willie

Speaking of Ultimate (FDA),

The designers of the proposed and much discussed SouthPass Regional Park, Appian Centre for Design, are inviting the members of the Fayetteville Disc Association to meet and learn about the plans of the 200 Acre park.

They will be offering pizza and refreshments
Wednesday Oct. 8th at 5:30 pm
at their offices in the old public library complex on Dickson St.

For more information give Phillip Watson a call.

Does NWADGA know about this? Isn't a disc golf course going into this park?

And Willie,
Phil Watson is who you would contact for Ultimate in getting a game or clinic together elsewhere besides their pick up games. Tues and Thursday. You could probaly find his contact information on the website.

Darrell just called with some lame" internet problems" excuse and asked me to announce that he is hosting night golf tomorrow at NS. Arrive around 6:30-TEE @ 7----said he has enough lights to light up the baskets! I'd suggest you supply your own mini glows for your discs and some good sticky tape. It was fun. It was me, Buck, Blake, Darrel, and Asbury. Buck won with a +2. By far the best moment of the night was after we finished hole 11, Darrel pulled out the glowstick from the basket and it broke open. He didnt notice and put it in his mouth to free up his hands to do something else, he then noticed that his bluejeans were glowing. I heard him him yell out, he asked me if any had got on his face. When I turned around it was all over his face, his mustache soaked it all up. It was hilarious. It was a good time though

Since we in Tulsa consider all of you brothers away from home, I would like to inform you of an opportunity to communicate in person with the PDGA. The objective is not a lynch mob but a way for our strong disc golf region to address any concerns that we have with our parent organization. Disc golf in this region has exploded over the last 5 years. It was not long ago that we could barely host an A tier. Now with Worlds, A tiers, B tiers and our second NT about to take place, we as a region are being watched and listened too. It would be a great idea for both of the Fort Smith and Fayetteville clubs to have a representative at this meeting. All are welcome but please hold it to one speaker if possible. We as a region are strong and we need to continue to be so.

From John Duesler, posted on the TDSA threads 1/14/09.

Hello Tulsa disc golfers. As the new Director of Marketing and Communications, I am pleased to see your passion for the PDGA and disc golf. We saw it during the great events Kevin, Joe and David Wise and Coda helped organize in the past (culminating with the Worlds and your second NT event this year), and we see it now with your observations on the message board.

To provide a more effective forum of communication, Brian Graham and I are planning to meet with any of the Tulsa disc golfers (and NT Touring Pros) during a Forum at the April NT event at the Lodge. Our goal here is not just to field your concerns, but to begin establishing what could be a more effective way to communicate in the future (i.e. better than just the message board.) This will occur Friday night of the event.

Our suggested format would consist of the following...

a. Opening remarks from our host...Jim Taylor (Thanks Jim!)

b. A Statement from Brian Graham and one from John Duesler generally related to some of your PDGA concerns.

c. Then comments from the following (in either order...)
--The Oklahoma State PDGA Coordinator

--A Tulsa DG Club Representative(s)

d. Then Open Floor to Comments.

I would suggest that you prepare your comments for this meeting, as well as your recommendations for a better relationship with the PDGA in the future.

In the meantime, my phone number is 215-913-0569 and I have a skype account at jdflyer44. I welcome you to use any of these methods to contact me directly.

Thanks and see you in April.

Please see below.

I will post some pictures i took on old main and northshore later. We wont be playing either of these places soon. Right after i left northshore i heard on the radio to not go into any public parks. I was on hole 2 taking some pictures. 10 seconds after i moved from the spot where i was shooting a limb the size of my car fell. I did however birdie hole 11. and there was people playin which was awesome, and very dangerous.

At the last club meeting we discussed moving the date of the Northshore Invitational, now scheduled for March 28th. I don't think that the course will be in "sanctioned tournament shape" by then, and as a club we don't appear to have our ducks in a row to pull off a tournament. Matt Scott and several others suggested that we do the Razorback classic that day on the old main lawn. The tournament will likely be non-sanctioned, but everyone please weigh in on this.

evandmckee
Feb 18 2009, 03:17 PM
<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>tournament player on</pre><hr />
Sanctioning attracts more players in this region, not many truly open dates in the area either so filling the date with the Razorback Classic is definitely an option
<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>tournament player off</pre><hr />

<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>2 cents on</pre><hr />
keep in mind that sanctioning under a charity event is also an option, the $10 non-member fee would be waived, the normal $2 PDGA player fee for a C tier would be donated to the charity as well as $2 additional matched plus 25% of the remaining entry

Charity must be a 501c3, plenty of them out there, the Educational Disc Golf Experience is a registered 501c3

i.e. entry fee of $25 would have $9.25 towards the charity leaving $15.75 to pay out

normal C tier would be $2 a head and $10 more ($35) for non-pdga members

great PR for the community and the club wouldn't have to buy as much merch
<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>2 cents off</pre><hr />

<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>state coordinator on</pre><hr />

I'd like to see it as a USDGC State Spot Qualifier also, especially since Northshore Inv. was supposed to be (and still can at a later scheduled date)

and remember that the Southern National Pro Championship is close by in Little Rock again, players that are wanting to attend that need SN points

In order for the event to be a State Spot USDGC Championship qualifier it would have to be either PDGA Sanctioned or a SN Qualifier because we need to have online records of results

lots of options, whoever is spear heading this feel free to contact me at emckee(at)wafda.org or 479-651-0417

I'd love to see something on this date and will help however I can, and the sooner a command decision can be made the better so that players can know what's going on, I defitely need to know soon so that I can ammend the info at dgrus concerning the State Spot USDGC Championship qualifying
as well as the PDGA event schedule

also it wouldn't hurt to mass e-mail the nwadga membership (current or not) to get more input (lots of players simply don't look at this board often)

also a mass e-mail would help if done soon to hopefully have more bodies this week-end at the Northshore Clean-Up

Add beer to a club meeting. there you go, now you'll really get nothing done, plus you'll increase the bickering, back bitting &amp; complaining ten fold. to tear a club apart just add alcohol. Ask anyone. Two putt you want chim in on this one?

Meetings need to be held in a location that affords no interuptions, the ability to hear each other speak and NO Alcohol. These meetings are hard enough to get through, get decisions made and agree on things without involving beer. Now after the meeting for all those that want to discuss things and have a beer, more power to you. ;)

Sorry Randal,
Didn't realize a joke would step on your toes.

How about we have the meeting in a central location... shoot, Corey, Seth, and I live off of Garland right off the interstate, we could do it in our living room, or backyard since the weather is nice.

Maybe even, since the sun is out longer now, we have a mid-week mini, and the meeting at Northshore's pavillion afterwards? Now that's common sense. I promise it'll get a bigger showing than the Jones Center

evandmckee
Mar 17 2009, 08:21 PM
It's not Randal's toes, I love to drink beer (alot), and the main thing that he's getting at is that these meetings are for the business side of running a club, TwoPutt up above is in a town that it's legal to drink in most parks and they still keep their meetings all business, there's a time and place for everything

Take your request about meeting at a different location to the next club meeting, that's where you'll get something done at ;)

Now I'm going to drink some beer :D

BobHarris
Jul 09 2009, 11:15 AM
If there is interest in an Ace Race, please consider utilizing club discs and a Discatcher Sport Basket as a Grand prize. I would hope that we could get some sponsorships for additional prizes such as a putting competition, etc. Really just do the same fundraiser for JBHunt as before.
The club really needs to have a meeting of interested parties to satisfy a required filing to the Secretary of State.....prior to August 1st.
We hopefully have reserves enough to host a tournament, interested parties could hash it out at a meeting. The previous Ace Race just broke even, a second Ace Race with club merchandise would actually be fund-raising.

Feedback much appreciated!

Just so everyone over in Arky land knows and you were thinking about what to do this weekend, there are two, Thats right two C Tiers this weekend in T-Town. The first is on Sturday at Hunter Park and offers a $15,000 Hole in one and a good players pack. They will also have Doubles on Friday afternoon.

The second is at the NEW Centennial course in Owasso. This is the newest course addded to the Tulsa list of courses. Owasso is only 10 minutes from Mohawk and only about 20 minutes from Hunter Park. It is 2.5 miles off of 169 hwy.
Lunch will be provided by Steak-2-Go here in town and they will be cooking angus burgers. If you're a vegan and you're coming over let me know and I'll have other food for you.

Come to both or either one, they will both be worth attending.
You can sign up at Twistedflyer.com or show up early at the event.

Just go to the top of the page for each of these links, there is also a discount on line if you sign up for both.

Sep 22 2009, 12:11 AM
Well I think they made a mistake when they posted the 3rd and 4th round ratings, the Pros and Ams played different courses so I don't think it will end up being a 923 rated round, but we will see when the update it. She did for sure shoot a 893 round at Middle Park 1st round, Ams and Pros both played the same layout. She was only a few strokes off Val Jenkins and Des Reading after the first round so it was definitely a good round. I think we will start to see lots more of the higher 800 and possible 900 rounds coming from Alexandria from now on. The tournament was great and she learned a lot and overcame a few tough breaks. Just made it home and are starting to unpack all our stuff. Her sponsor Fade Gear gave her two new bags while she was there and some new prototype "Quad Shock" style straps that have a new really nice addition that I think other strap companies will soon be copying. Thanks for the Support and hopefully she will be able to post something tomorrow.

So they finally updated the scores for USWDGC and Alexandria did shoot a 900 rated round, exactly. and missed another by one stroke.

On another note has the city done anything at all at Northshore, Teepads, cleaned up anything?

TeeBirdPoop
Oct 27 2009, 07:36 AM
Gratz Alexandria!

Yes the city has put up a roofed bulletin board and has been meeting with Darrell to discuss future plans for the course. They have begun clean up on the wooded fairways and Hole 10 looks excellent. Hole 2 has improved, but needs a little more work. Cement teepads are still a discussion and more than likely will be installed in the spring. From early talks it appears that the city will buy the supplies and the golfers will have to do the install. ( This is what I remember from my conversation with Darrell and I could have misquoted )

Darrell will be starting Northshore mini's at 1:00 every Saturday starting Nov 7th.

Property is actually at the corner of S. 1st and W. Nursery. Put out 6 baskets, played close to 36 legit fairways/holes. Easy fit for a strong 9 hole with several tee options. Now to just find out who owns the property. If it is the schools, it will be a perfect place for an EDGE course. Walking distance for 3 schools, bus parking and no hidey holes to lose kids in.

Keep an eye out, I may do this again soon and possibly a one day in the not too distance future(Ice Bowl or Fund Raiser type event).

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

For those of us unable to make it over to Tulsa for the Traditional Thanksgiving Skins game , but who would like a little holiday adventure, I've got an idea:)

I don't want to interfere with the normal mini, so I would like to do something either mid-morning Friday or early A.M. on Saturday or even mid-day on Sunday. If anyone is interested but only for a specific time please let me know, or if one time is better than another.

I would like to set up a 6 or 9 basket course and play an inexpensive safari skins match that will be give everyone involved a chance to win something. If we have enough players, we can set up a specific course and play, or we can play "Pick-a-Shot" w/each person taking a turn choosing the tee and hole layout. Either way I want to GPS each Tee and Basket we use as well as get some photos of people playing the course that I intend to use in a presentation to the school and city.
