fellow arlingtonites...

i've been developing an idea for a while, and have talked to some of you about it. now's the time i'd like to go ahead with it if y'all think it might be fun.

here it is:

the object of the game is to have the lowest average score on a hole, over a certain period of time. the club's sunday mini scores will count.

each player pays $20 to enter the game. the best 6 (or some number) of 10 (or some number) are used to compute the averages. hole configurations will be counted together. this all means players can travel to tourneys, have crappy rounds/holes, etc and still have a pretty goodchance of being competitive.

the payout is $1/hole * the number of players. the extra $2 will go to some combo of the club/icebowl/vpo, etc, to be decided.

to eliminate burden on mini-TDs, i would distribute special scorecards participants would use to record their scores. these cards would besigned by the player and nother player on the card, and turned in to me after the round. if i'm not there, the TD would collect them in a seperate pouch that i'll get the following sunday.

i already have the online database set up to run this type of series. i think it would be a lot of fun, and i believe everyone, from am to open, would have some chance of winning a hole.

we'd be playing for bragging rights, and the hole's booty. i'd would like to print hole signs with the current "owner" on it, if i could get the existing files from someone.

if we ran it 4 times a year and had just 20 players, we'd have an extra $160 in the club. that'd make a nice contribution to something. it would also be great for helping playerslearn how to focus even if a few holes dont go so well - the next hole could yield the birdie that wins the series!

i have to figure out what to do for ties, prolly a playoff of some form...

i'm willing and ableto run the wholething, so no impact would be felt, except for collecting the series cards if i'm not at the sunday mini.

so what do you all think? suggestions? thumbs up or down?

Sounds like a great idea to me Pat, and thanks for taking it on all by yourself. I'm in....I'll take hole 4 and hole 15 please.............both thumbers under 260 so I can actually reach them :o.

sandalman
Jan 08 2005, 12:12 AM
cool. hopefully i was clear though - you're playing for every hole. $1 of the $20 goes to each hole. i'll assume you're just smacking it down early and laying your claim on those two - how manly of you to brag on the two shortest out there :D:D:D

what seems like a good series... best 6 of 10... best 8 of 12... something else?...

jasonc
Jan 08 2005, 12:23 AM
I have to try and lay claim on the shortest holes..........you've seen me play ;). I'd say 8 out of 12 on the series, give everyone a few more chances to screw up.

I really like the idea because on a few of the holes it will give some of the more conservative players a great chance at owning the hole. There are allot of holes that you can go for the 2 but if you don't execute the shot a 4 is a definate possibillity.

Now the question is, seperate grouping for the ladies or no???

sandalman
Jan 08 2005, 09:52 AM
ok, how about 7 of 12. that provides plenty of room for tourny attentendance and other reasons players cant play on a particular sunday.

for tie-breakers, i'm thinking of having all tied players go to the hole and play it repeatedly until a victor emerges. so if six are tied for hole 2, they all play it. if there are three 2's and three 3's, well the 3's are gone and the 2's play again. basically a skins game crossed with groundhog day :) . i expect some players will be tied for more than one hole, leading to scheduling, but we could have some fun after the mini watching all the ties play out.

as far as the ladies are concerned... i'm ok with that. however, lets ask the question about how the ladies are playing compared to our nov/am guys. those guys are gonna have to play against grider, myhero, etc. if there is a seperation between the typical scores, then sure, i'll run a seperate group for them. so what grouping makes the most sense... just womens, or some combo of women/am/nov?

jasonc
Jan 08 2005, 05:28 PM
If you look at who plays nov or am at our minis, i'd say grouping them with most of our ladies would be a fairly even match (except Juli of course :D). Feel it out in the morning and see what kind of opinions you get from the other TD's........I say just them because if not you get into the whole parking lot vote, which can become a cluster F*** in a hurry .

Jan 09 2005, 12:10 AM
sounds like a plan. but i wont be ableto be there tomorrow (1/8) because i'm barely recovered from a cold, and today's Poison Ivy Open flat wore me out. plus i need some Q-time with the wife andbaby ;)

i'll be getting some flyers madeup this coming week and will bringthem next sunday.

thanks fo the inputs - it really helps. i think women/nov/am willl prolly be ok. adv/open will certainly be fine

peace all

Jan 13 2005, 09:56 PM
Hey. That sounds like a fun game. As far as the divisions, is there any kind of record kept on the Sunday minis? No matter...
Having an average score based division would be a good way do divide it up.

Suggestion: Tell everyone up front that the total score will be added and averaged throughout the series. Divisions will be set by average scores:
< -4
-4 to even
+1 to +5
+5 to +10
> +10
This is an example only of course. I didn't put much thought into the score divisions. Set them how you feel fit.
Male and female would make no difference. Advanced women should automatically be pitted against (true) am and novice men.

I don't foresee an astronomical participation, so if anyone wants to throw 12 minis to win $20, or so, on a hole, more power to them.

Oh! BTW, I am in if this happens. (Comin' to jump yer claim Jason :p)

sandalman
Jan 13 2005, 11:10 PM
its gonna be two divisions at most. women and am/novice men in one and everyone else in the other.

its not the round score that matters, its how well you play a hole. for those who take it seriously, there's no more blowing off a crappy round - because you will still want to perform well on the remaining holes. should be excellant mental practice for real tournaments.

IF i get time saturday i will have flyers ready for sunday's mini

Jan 14 2005, 12:04 PM
I plan on being there Sunday, but could you copy the info to the board, just in case?

I think that would be a fun game. I just hope that between tournaments and NG drill weekends that I can hit 7 of them. What if I can't make 7? Can I just hope to have more birdies with less rounds?

sandalman
Jan 14 2005, 03:29 PM
i'll review the tourney schedule to make sure theres enough room to hit the primary tourneys and still miss a couple minis as well.

maybe we go 6/12 if we have to. but if the mininum is not met, then you cant qualify. otherwise we'dhave people hitting a birdie on the first round then dropping out.

Jan 16 2005, 10:14 AM
Makes sense if you are doing an average. I was thinking it was best record, so if I played only 4 events and got 4 birdies, that would be 4/7. Someone else plays 10 events and gets 5 birdies and 5 pars, they have 5/7. That person wins. If someone else made only 5 events and had 5 birdies, they are tied but the tie would then look at pars. In this example, the 10 event person has (out of his best 7) 2/7 and the 5 event person has 0/7. Once again the player with the most events won. This way, you can shoot 1 perfect round and you still have to continue playing events in order to have a chance, because anyone else can play all 12 and beat you with only 2 birdies.

If scores are counted on a hole by hole basis rather than a round basis, the more events give an advantage all around. So, if I play all 12 events, I pick my best 7 for each hole from all 12, and not just my best 7 rounds. Is that the way you are doing it?

sandalman
Jan 16 2005, 08:35 PM
yes, that is correct. your best six scores PERHOLE count for your PER HOLE average. its a hole-by-hole contest, nothing to do with the score of the round. ie, you could 5's on holes 1-17 for all 13 minis, and shot 2's on hole 18 all 13. your average on hole 18 is the best 6, so it would be a 2.00. and you would likely win hole 18 :)

yes, the more minis you play the "better" chance you have of getting a lower average. but we need to leave some breathing room for tourneys and a couple just plain "cant-play-this-weekends". so this first time its best 6 of the next 13. we'll see how it goes... i suspect 6 of 12 or even 7 of 12 would work better, but i'm hoping this will encourage a good participation for the inagural series.

results for the first sunday are online (http://www.earthoffice.net/discgolf/) .

we've got 11 players. hopefully we'll get some more signed up - this shouldbe pretty good.

i cant believe pepper birdied 8 AND 12! wassup with that??? birds on those holes are seriously good in this contest! a claydog just missed on hole 1 for the second week in a row, and had a solid look on 3. he's starting to scare me :)

the website allows you to track a lot of stuff, but you'll need your username and password. if you are playing in the Own the Holeseries, please DONT set up a user account - i already did that for you. email me for your username and password

Pat,

Check those scores. Pepper bogied hole 8 after having the best drive. I also think that the 2 on 12 is incorrect as well. Ask him yourself.

yeah he had a blank hole, but also one extra... wtf... oh well i'll finger it out... thanks!

ps - i'll bet we get more players for the spring-summer series when they all see those new tee signs with the owner's name proudly displayed!

pps - somebody tell me who's holding the files with the teesigns, i'll be very happy to bust out some new ones when this series is concluded.

Yea.....and ask Pepper about his disc on Hole 5! :D(Cheater!!!!) LMAO! :D

Jan 25 2005, 01:52 PM
Subject: SCORES

Here are my scores starting from hole one 3,3,3,2,3,3,3,4,2
back nine 3,3,3,2,3,3,2,3,3

birdied 4, 9, 13, 16 bogied 8 with the best drive on the hole, parred the rest...

That should clear things up sorry just coppied them from the score card on sunday, must have messed up...

I think we have already covered this but ADGA needs to establish if we are using the two meter rule or if we are not... I was under the assumption that we were not so I did not even think of getting someone to measure my disc in a tree... I am well under 6 ft and it was only a few inches over my head, if I were under the impression that were using the rule then I would have had Nolen varify that it was safe... The last few tournaments I have played were Maceman events and we had not been using the two meter rule so there for everything was safe... I still think if the PDGA wants to change the rule they need to have the balls to change it, not beat around the bush and say it is up to the TD... I personally like the rule the way it has always been, but I don't like going to one tournament and it being one way then playing the next day and it be the other... It is just going to get complicated and cause to many problems like what happened on Sunday...

Jan 25 2005, 01:54 PM
Cool Pep. We love ya even though you almost screwed everything up. :D

Toolen stated after the round that a disc that is above 2m at The Vet is considered O.B.!

sandalman
Jan 25 2005, 02:47 PM
ok, the standings are fixed, thanks pep for clearing it up.

in 2005, the TD must announce that the 2MR is NOT in effect if he wishes to not use it. it is ineffect by default, so if the TD does not mention it, play things as if it is effect.

i should have mentioned it anyway, but every mini i TD at veterans WILL use the 2MR! at least until i have some time to establish a drop zone for 2MR within the 10M on certain holes - then i'll suspend it except for within 10M of the basket.

Jan 25 2005, 06:57 PM
I know it is a little early to ask about standings were are you going to post them???

Thanks, looks like Claydog had a good round on Sunday... If he could have stayed away from those bogies would have been a lot better...

Jan 27 2005, 02:23 AM
Great. I am glad we are keeping the 2m rule.

I checked out your scorecard builder Pat . I like it a lot. One suggestion, if you don't mind, add the alternate short for 7, Red Rooster pad (7RR to 7S). We slip that one in during a lot of normal rounds just for :Ds. Sweet little putter ace run built by DQ. You have probably seen it as you walk from 6 long to 7, just on the right of the trail.

sandalman
Jan 27 2005, 10:35 AM
good idea, i'll add it. do you know its (approximate) length? 150?

(ps - the website gets really good after you have about 20 or 30 rounds entered and get get your hole-by-hole averages for every hole configuration.)

Jan 27 2005, 10:56 PM
I'll bet it is no more than 125. But then, I am kind of an optimist!

Thanks for considering it!

Jan 28 2005, 12:44 PM
It looks a lot easier than it is. We played it the other night (night golf) and there was 1 deuce and 2 fours. If you don't get past the trees to the green (aka: tournament roll hill), you are looking at a three at best. Same for a fly-by ace run.

almost forgot... i fixed a couple things on the webpage... at the top of the page theres a little form where you can enter a "history depth" number. its not real interesting yet since we only have 2 rounds in, but you can put in some number and it will show the averages based on that number of rounds.

right now you can enter "1" and see everybody's best round. after 10 weeks, you'll be able to check averages from the best 1 to the best 10 rounds.

results from 2-7 are in the database and online. only four players yesterday cuz of the Big Show. after three weeks, only a handful of holes have a single leader - lots of ties still to work out!

Feb 07 2005, 06:19 PM
Only 6 holes are currently ruled by one individual... #2 Charles Cox 2.5, #6 Pepper :D2.5, #11 Charles Cox 2.5, #13 pepper :D2.5, #15 Claydog 2.0, and last but not least edging me out by .17 for a 2.33 Myhero #16 :D:D:D

Thanks for DOING ALL OF THIS (http://www.earthoffice.net/discgolf/seriesaverages.php?playerid=1&seriesid=2&courseid=10&config=group&teenumber=all) Pat!

What about a ties? Let's say Pep and i share hole #6 after 13 weeks . John played 7 times, Pep played 8 times. If we still equalled each other after 7, then would it be considered halfed, or would Pep's 8th round give him the win?

Also, since it's a relatively small field, how hard would it be to also post how consistant a player is? For Example: My_Hero has played in 3 mini's(long to long) and has shot within 2 strokes all 3 rounds. (51,52,53)

Feb 07 2005, 08:36 PM
I have to be consistant too if John keeps whooping me by a stroke every week... Sorry I didn't make it this week John, I had what I call work hand... :( The combo of the post hole digger and the chain saw my arm felt like it was going to fall off, it hurt to grip a disc  I am feeling better today but still a little sore... its pretty cool when you start getting some rounds in there. i have most of my rounds for the last 2 years or so.

for ties, i was thinking we'd run a sudden death "Groundhog Day" playoff. if you're tied on hole 7 for the six best rounds, you'll play hole 7 over and over until someone prevails.

but that might be too much... maybe oughta wait and see.

its definitely getting interesting as more rounds are played.

You might want to check out the 2 courses at Cedar Hill if you have time to get over that way during the day. Mid week minis generally don't start here until after the time change. thanks terry for bringing the strips over... the results from Mar 20 are in!

sure is starting to get interesting, with a few players already at the cutoff of 6 rounds. their averages are just gonna get better ... My Hero does look like he could own the world (except for #4 - he totally sux on that one :D) Pep is gonna give a run on a few for sure, as is Claydog. most of the rest need to card some good rounds to get in it, but its is still waaaaay possible!

John, do you usually throw 2 finger there?

my_hero
Mar 23 2005, 03:36 PM
I do.

I usually manage to get the disc to dive in steep, for a 20' putt.

If the wind is up, i throw lower, and softer, and try to barely beat the group of trees on the left, hope for a skip and a park job.

I'm thinking RHBH hyzer next week with ye 'ole trusty Z-Xtreme.

with only two chances remaining, lets take a look at who's leading and who's got a chance...

hole 1: with six 3's MyHero is in charge. claydog could catch him, but he needs two 3's and will be in San Saba this weekend. looks like John will own hole 1.

hole 2: claydog three 2's give him the lead, biut with only two 3's to back it up, he's on shaky ground. John could pass him with a single 2 this weekend.

hole 3: claydog and terry are in the drivers seat with five 3's terry has the advantage sonce the dog is AWOL this weekend. there's a pack with four 3's that have a chance to tie it up also.

hole 4: keith leads, but with fewer 2's than either jeremy or claydog. pep could muscle his way into it by closing the series strong.

hole 5: with two 3's backing up four 2's, covalt looks like he has already won this prime piece of real estate! no one else has morethan a single 2.

hole 6: john has control at the moment with a single 2 supported by five 3's. claydog 2 is wasted due to lack of 3's. charles' and pep's 2s could bring them into a tie if they 3 out the season. covalt and jeremy need a 2 to get in it.

hole 7: a pair of dueces has john in the lead, but covalt's got a pair also. if david grabs a single 3, he'll tie john. a duece by wither could put it away.

hole 8: very interesting situation here. john leads with a couple 2's, but still needs a 3 for his sixth round. toolen has a 2, so he'll need another to make a run. claydog's pair of dueces is gonna be wasted - he's only got two 3's supporting them, and has only one more chance. chris also has a bird, but with only a pair of 3's cant catch the leader.

hole 9: what can i say? steamboat has a perfect 2.00 over his best six tries! john and david could catch him is they finish with two more birds.

hole 10: claydog leads on average with three 2's and three 3's. one more 3 will bring covalt even, as he also has a menage a bird.

hole 11: jeremy, john and terry are in race with a pair of 2's. claydog needs a 3 to make his bird pair count. and if charles or pep add a 2 to their tally, they could get right into it.

hole 12: chris's single bird plus the rest 3's give him the lead. john and terry have a bird each, but need to close on 3's to make it count.

hole 13: pep's pair of deuces looks pretty strong. john's got a single 2 and the only realistic chance of catching him.

hole 14: cox leads with five 3's... john also has five and is looking for one more to drop a 4 and tie. a handful chase with four 3's. this one looks like a playoff getting ready to happen.

hole 15: myhero's clean with six 2's. but sandalman and claydog are close behind with five each.

hole 16: john's trio of 2's has him leading, but with three of his own, covalt only needs a single 3 to tie.

hole 17: john looks good here also with two birds backed by four 3's. david, claydog, or charles need another 2 to make it interesting.

hole 18: pep has control with a duecee against five 3's, but dont count out jeremy... his duece is hidden by a bogey. if he can just once more this one will be tied.

ooops, posted this on the wrong thread... here it is in its proper place:

hole 1: MyHero OWNS THE HOLE! claydog has four with one try to go. no one can catch john. four of six is the best we can do??? the hole emabarassed the entire field (except john) on this series!

hole 2: John's duece today gives him a narrow lead. Claydog's triple-bird is hidden by a 4 thats hanging around. John can seal it with a birdie on the last round. if he misses, Claydog wins with a 2 and ties with a 3.

hole 3: Claydog, John and Terry dueling with five 3's apiece. ya gotta believe at least one will par next sunday, and hold of a the pack with four 3's. this one is a must par next sunday!

hole 4: the pack missed a chance to tie Claydog and Jeremy, who are even with four 2's. Keith and Chris need birds next week to have a prayer.

hole 5: DavidCovalt OWNS THE HOLE! no one is close to his four 2's. nice shooting, KC!

hole 6: MyHero is leading, but Pep's 2 is well-hidden by a double-bogey. a 3 by Pep next week and he ties it up.. but John can ice it with a second bird. Jeremy and Toolen could get into it with a bird.

hole 7: Covalt and John control this one with a pair of dueces each. Nobody can catch them, its their show.

hole 8: JohnM OWNS THE HOLE! with a bird today he puts this one away. Claydog has two birds, but even if he adds another next week, he cant get rid of an extra 4. good job MyHero!

hole 9: Steamboat's clean birdie slate control number 9. David and John are chasing with five, so they've gotta delivery next week and hope TT settles for a par.

hole 10: its between Claydog and KC, each with triple dueces backed by 3's. Jeremy's pair is wasted by one too many bogeys.

hole 11: Jeremy and John put themselves in the drivers seat with birdies today! they've got three each, and are backed by 3's. Toolen and Claydog are chasing with a pair.

hole 12: Pep's looking good in the lead, but MyHero's bird is being hidden by a 4. if John 3's the final week, he'll tie Pep. of course a duece by Pep and its over. Claydog and Sandalman could get in with birds. Toolen's bird is wasted by an extra bogey.

hole 13: very interesting... John and Pep appear tied, but John has only one duece against Pep's pair. Chris can make that second one count with just a par to finish. John will need another bird to force groundhog day.

hole 14: this one went from looking like a certain tie to looking like MyHero's gonna expand his empire. Charles is the only hope - he needs a 3.

hole 15: Sandalman misses his chance to record a clean birdie slate. but he and Claydog have one chance left to match John's six birds.

hole 16: KC and MyHero have three birds each and no one can catch them. Keith's pair is gonna be wasted due to an extra bogey.

hole 17: once again, John is in control. his pair of birds is holding up nicely. Claydogand Covalt are in pursuit, and need another bird to catch.

hole 18: Jeremy missedhis chance to make his single count today, so Pep's lone bird gives him the lead. Jeremy gets one more try. Covalt, MyHero, Cox and Toolen could get into it with just one bird.

looks like a lot will be decided on the last week. there will be a few ties, but not as many as i expected. congrats to John and David for closing a few out early, and good luck to everybody next week on their final chances - make 'em count!

hole 1: MyHero OWNS THE HOLE! claydog has four with one try to go. no one can catch john. four of six is the best we can do??? the hole emabarassed the entire field (except john) on this series!
<font color="red"> Thank You. </font>

hole 2: John's duece today gives him a narrow lead. Claydog's triple-bird is hidden by a 4 thats hanging around. John can seal it with a birdie on the last round. if he misses, Claydog wins with a 2 and ties with a 3.
<font color="red"> This was kind of unfair. Too many different variations of the hole. It really just depended on how many times you got to play the "real" hole #2 </font>

hole 3: Claydog, John and Terry dueling with five 3's apiece. ya gotta believe at least one will par next sunday, and hold of a the pack with four 3's. this one is a must par next sunday!
<font color="red"> This hole should be shared. Not a very good hole if you are looking to pick up strokes. A very good hole to lose strokes on. </font>

hole 4: the pack missed a chance to tie Claydog and Jeremy, who are even with four 2's. Keith and Chris need birds next week to have a prayer.
<font color="red"> Simply embarrassing. I actually used to birdie it quite frequently. Don't know what happened. </font>

hole 5: DavidCovalt OWNS THE HOLE! no one is close to his four 2's. nice shooting, KC!
<font color="red"> Same as above. Simply embarrassing. I actually used to birdie it quite frequently. Don't know what happened. </font>

hole 6: MyHero is leading, but Pep's 2 is well-hidden by a double-bogey. a 3 by Pep next week and he ties it up.. but John can ice it with a second bird. Jeremy and Toolen could get into it with a bird.
<font color="red"> My only bogey on this hole came from a 15' birdie putt that went through the chains, and rolled down the hill below the short pin. Wasn't too happy about that. </font>

hole 7: Covalt and John control this one with a pair of dueces each. Nobody can catch them, its their show.
<font color="red"> I'm also embarrassed to admit that i missed a putt from on top of the QuattleWall yesterday. Just glad it didn't roll. </font>

hole 8: JohnM OWNS THE HOLE! with a bird today he puts this one away. Claydog has two birds, but even if he adds another next week, he cant get rid of an extra 4. good job MyHero!
<font color="red"> Thank You </font>

hole 9: Steamboat's clean birdie slate control number 9. David and John are chasing with five, so they've gotta delivery next week and hope TT settles for a par.
<font color="red"> All we need is a birdie next week to share. It doesn't matter what Toolen takes, right? </font>

hole 10: its between Claydog and KC, each with triple dueces backed by 3's. Jeremy's pair is wasted by one too many bogeys.
<font color="red"> Simply embarrassing. I actually used to birdie it quite frequently. Don't know what happened. </font>

hole 11: Jeremy and John put themselves in the drivers seat with birdies today! they've got three each, and are backed by 3's. Toolen and Claydog are chasing with a pair.
<font color="red"> Can't Jeremy just let me "own" one hole? :D</font>

hole 12: Pep's looking good in the lead, but MyHero's bird is being hidden by a 4. if John 3's the final week, he'll tie Pep. of course a duece by Pep and its over. Claydog and Sandalman could get in with birds. Toolen's bird is wasted by an extra bogey.
<font color="red"> This hole should be shared by more golfers. </font>

hole 13: very interesting... John and Pep appear tied, but John has only one duece against Pep's pair. Chris can make that second one count with just a par to finish. John will need another bird to force groundhog day.
<font color="red"> A few weeks ago i tried to throw an annie in some strong wind to the long bucket. The disc surprized me by turning over, and rolling all the way to the pin. A 15 footer, and i missed it. Shouldn't have been there anyway. Didn't deserve it. </font>

hole 14: this one went from looking like a certain tie to looking like MyHero's gonna expand his empire. Charles is the only hope - he needs a 3.
<font color="red"> Should be shared by more golfers as well. </font>

hole 15: Sandalman misses his chance to record a clean birdie slate. but he and Claydog have one chance left to match John's six birds.
<font color="red"> I did my best here. The ball is in y'alls court now for the tie. </font>

hole 16: KC and MyHero have three birds each and no one can catch them. Keith's pair is gonna be wasted due to an extra bogey.
<font color="red"> David, can't you let me "own" just one hole! :D</font>

hole 17: once again, John is in control. his pair of birds is holding up nicely. Claydogand Covalt are in pursuit, and need another bird to catch.
<font color="red"> Doing the Claydog and DC par or bogey dance right now. Think it will work? </font>

hole 18: Jeremy missedhis chance to make his single count today, so Pep's lone bird gives him the lead. Jeremy gets one more try. Covalt, MyHero, Cox and Toolen could get into it with just one bird.
<font color="red"> Had a 20' birdie putt spit two weeks ago. Looks like i may surrender this one to my sidekick Pep. </font>

looks like a lot will be decided on the last week. there will be a few ties, but not as many as i expected. congrats to John and David for closing a few out early, and good luck to everybody next week on their final chances - make 'em count!
<font color="red"> Thank You </font>

PB,

So have you gone back and figured out what your -8 was rated yesterday? Is it even possible to figure out?

My last 4 mini's at the Vet have weighed in nicely at -7, -6, -8, and -7.

Boom!

sandalman
May 16 2005, 04:08 PM
its totally possible to calculate, sure... but i didnt do it. some data points other than just the Rule the Hole players would be good.

Kennedy was at -4? what were some of the other open players' scores? let me know and i'll throw it into my ratings calculator.

i was actually thinking of doing something like weekly ratings... might be kinda fun and informative.

May 16 2005, 05:16 PM
well, kennedy and hicks are not current, so i assumed kennedy is a 970 and hicks is a 960.

also, its hard to calc how many ratings points per stroke to use. according to the rounds numbers, it should be 6.41. but the Vet usually plays about 9, especially with so many holes in the short position.

covalt's 896 rating is lower than he plays, but ortega's 941 is higher than he plays. so thats prolly a wash.

i calc'd ratings using both 6.41 and 9 for the ratings per stroke:

<table border="1"><tr><td> Player</td><td>PDGA#</td><td>Rating</td><td>Score</td><td>6.41 pts per stroke</td><td>9 pts per stroke
</td></tr><tr><td>Geesa</td><td>13542</td><td>934</td><td>54</td><td>931</td><td>928
</td></tr><tr><td>Brumit</td><td>10293</td><td>921</td><td>54</td><td>931</td><td>928
</td></tr><tr><td>Maiuro</td><td>10019</td><td>974</td><td>47</td><td>976</td><td>991
</td></tr><tr><td>Covalt</td><td>24147</td><td>896</td><td>49</td><td>963</td><td>973
</td></tr><tr><td>Pepper</td><td>15024</td><td>958</td><td>56</td><td>918</td><td>910
</td></tr><tr><td>Cox</td><td>18539</td><td>931</td><td>56</td><td>918</td><td>910
</td></tr><tr><td>Kennedy</td><td></td><td>970</td><td>50</td><td>957</td><td>964
</td></tr><tr><td>Hicks</td><td></td><td>960</td><td>54</td><td>931</td><td>928
</td></tr><tr><td>Quattlebaum</td><td>18242</td><td>932</td><td>51</td><td>950</td><td>955
</td></tr><tr><td>Toolen</td><td>10774</td><td>920</td><td>54</td><td>931</td><td>928
</td></tr><tr><td>Brenner</td><td>10403</td><td>923</td><td>46</td><td>982</td><td>1000
</td></tr><tr><td>Jendel</td><td>6970</td><td>985</td><td>50</td><td>957</td><td>964
</td></tr><tr><td>Mace</td><td>7477</td><td>939</td><td>52</td><td>944</td><td>946
</td></tr><tr><td>Steel</td><td>25818</td><td>876</td><td>60</td><td>893</td><td>874
</td></tr><tr><td>Ortega</td><td>14300</td><td>941</td><td>63</td><td>873</td><td>847
</td></tr><tr><td>Rose</td><td>19240</td><td>951</td><td>50</td><td>957</td><td>964 </tr></td></table>

higher ratings for kennedy and hicks would raise the overall round ratings, of course.

Yeppers.....there is no way a -8 is a 982, or a -7 is 976, so it must be closer to 9 points per stroke. Regardless, nice shooting!

sandalman
May 16 2005, 06:16 PM
thanks. it was fun. definitely a result of hitting putts!

and i suspect kennedy/hicks are higher than 970/960. i'm thinking -8 was 995-1005 or so. but its still not as good as your recent backtobacktobacktobacktoback streak!

and it was ALL DISCRAFT in open and masters!!!

next week some players will logtheir fifth round. the week after is Waco Ams, so the pro players will catch up to the ams that week. we're a couple weeks away from the noose tightening, but here's what things look like now:

six way tie - hole 8
four way tie - hole 3
three way tie - holes 9,15
two way tie - holes 2,5,6,11,17

outright leads on:
1 - john
4 - david
7 - david
10 - john
12 - chris

with five weeks in, it time to start making those hidden birides count!

five way tie - hole 12
four way tie - hole 8
three way tie - holes 3, 9
two way tie - hole 7

outright leads on:
1 - john (this one wont hold)
2 - charles (this one wont either)
4 - david (can anyone believe john is in second here?)
5 - john (david's mastery of hole 5 could tie john easily)
6 - claydog (looks like a lock if it stays long)
10 - charles (won't hold. charles need to turn in some cards for once!)
11 - john
13 - chris (also close to a lock)
14 - john (unless it goes back short, johns in good shape)
15 - john (not gonna hold)
16 - pat
17 - john
18 - charles (he's not really leading. he just refuses to turn in cards)

next week is Waco AM. terry will have strips... please return scores to him after the round.

ok, week 6 is up (http://www.earthoffice.net/discgolf/seriesaverages.php) . with six weeks in, make sureto set the history depth to 5 in order to see the "if it ended now" standing.

four-way tie - holes 3, 17
three-way tie - hole 12
two-way tie - hole 16

hole 1 - john (not gonna hold)
hole 2 - david
hole 4 - david
hole 5 - john
hole 6 - claydog (gonna be tough to beat)
hole 7 - david
hole 8 - david (also tough to catch)
hole 9 - terry
hole 10 - charles (not gonna hold)
hole 11 - john
hole 13 - chris (probably a lock)
hole 14 - john (also looking good)
hole 15 - john (headed for a tie)
hole 18 - pat

this ones shaping up good now - in addition to the current ties, a number of the outright leads could easily turn into ties or even change theowner.

one thing is for sure - john is DEFINITELY fading!

week seven is up! (http://www.earthoffice.net/discgolf/)

set history depth to 5 to see the truth. (i'll change the programming to dedfault to 5 if i get time later today)

with three weeks to go, its getting tighter. looks like a lot of pushes again.

five-way tie - holes 3, 12
two-way tie - holes 1, 2, 9, 16, 17

hole 4 - david, with john in hot pursuit
hole 5 - john
hole 6 - claydog
hole 7 - david
hole 8 - david
hole 10 - john
hole 11 - john
hole 13 - chris
hole 14 - john
hole 15 - john, with four others needingone birdie to tie
hole 18 - pat

freakin toolen just HAD to birdie 16 this week to tie me

i'd guess half of the outright leads are in danger of falling into ties, and the other half are looking fairly solid.

I'll be your belly dancer, prancer
And you can be my sheik

I know your Daddy's a sultan
A nomad known to all
With fifty girls to attend him, they all send him
Jump at his beck and call
But you won't need no harem, honey
When I'm by your side
And you won't need no camel, no no
When I take you for a ride
Come on, Cactus is our friend
He'll point out the way
Come on, till the evenin' ends
Till the evenin' ends
Midnight at the oasis
Send your camel to bed
Got shadows paintin' our faces
And traces of romance in our heads

Friday night, it was late
I was walking you home
We got down to the gate
And I was dreaming of the night
Would it turn out right
How to tell you girl
I wanna build my world around you
Tell you that it's true
I wanna make you understand
I'm talkin' about a lifetime plan

That's the way it began, we were hand in hand
Glenn Miller's Band was better than before
We yelled and screamed for more
And the Porter tunes "Night and Day"
Made us dance across the room
It ended all too soon
And on the way back home
I promised you'd never be alone

Hurry, don't be late
I can hardly wait
I said to myself when we're old
We'll go dancing in the dark
Walking through the park and reminiscing

Friday night, it was late
I was walking you home
We got down to the gate
And I was dreaming of the night
Would it turn out right
Now as the years roll on
Each time we hear our favorite song
The memories come along
Older times we're missing
Spending the hours reminiscing

Hurry, don't be late, I can hardly wait
I said to myself when we're old
We'll go dancing in the dark
Walking through the park and reminiscing

I had a hundred dollar ring in my hand
So weak and tired i could barely stand
From being up all night, prayin' she'd say yes
So with a hopeful heart i hit one knee
With a tear in her eye she looked at me
It was the moment of truth, i was scared to death
My life hung on what that tear meant
Then she smiled at me
And I lost it

No one can make me cry
Make me laugh
Make me smile
Or drive me mad like she does
It's like a curse that is the cure
Better or worse, one thing's for sure
It's real love and I don't know what I'd do
If I lost it

Well the honeymoon ended and life began
Jobs and bills, losing touch with friends
And that apartment got smaller every day
Then one night the walls finally closed in
I came home late, she said where've ya been
You used to call and tell me you're on your way
She said if this is how it's gonna be, then I quit
She walked out the door
I lost it

No one can make me cry
Make me laugh
Make me smile
Or drive me mad like she does
It's like a curse that is the cure
Better or worse, one thing's for sure
It's real love and I don't know what I'd do
If I lost it

I picked myself up off the floor
She walked back through the door
And we made love like it was the first time

No one can make me cry
Make me laugh
Make me smile
Or drive me mad like she does
It's like a curse that is the cure
Better or worse, one thing's for sure
It's real love and I don't know what I'd do
If I lost it

Oh, if I lost it
I don't wanna lose it
