We will need to decide membership fees, benefits, etc. pretty soon. Also, we should consider having a club meeting late 2004 or early-ish 2005 to hash a few things out (BAB issues, membership misc, course maintenance, course enhancement, new courses). Stephen and I have looked into the sign replacement (checked prices, have a basic design, etc.). Then next step is to get input (have been asking at the course) and to purchase materials and build it. We hope to get started (and maybe finish it) over the Christmas holidays (if my work schedule permits).

Did you know that the closest course to Mackenzie Park is in Levelland (will change sometime hopefully in 2005 to McAlister Park). The farthest is, according to the pdga course directory search:

Auckland, One Tree Hill, New Zealand
Cornwall Park 15913 miles (25609 km)

Dec 17 2004, 01:35 AM
Man when that new course goes in it will be awesome. Just imagine that there will be 3 courses within 35 minutes of eachother. Heck Levelland sounds hellified right about now. Maybe I can talk Woody into holding next weeks bag tag challenge on that course. Awwwww.....Then I will finally wrestle the #1 bone from Gordo's hands. That would be a great start to a New Year !!!!!

Gordo has #1??
you are kidding right?
What about marcy? or jessie?
you dont want me out there...
been working on my drives...have added at least 45 feet...
and you know my putts are on...
can't wain to get back to L-town for some
good ole fashion disc golf!!

Dec 17 2004, 10:35 PM
Word has it that Jesse had his bag in a truck that was auctioned off. So he has not played these past few Sundays. As for Marcus he made it out once or twice on Sunday but never took it. Jesse had the bone for a long time but obviously lost it to Gordozilla. Gordo is wiping the floor with most of the guys going out there and shows no signs of letting that bone go. Heck V got to within one stroke last week but was only good enough to take the #6 tag.

Come on down and give him a run at #1. I think he needs a new gunner coming after him. :)

No wait....... Stay there!!! If you take it home with you we will have to put a bounty on your head to have someone bring it back home........ :D:D

Gordo beat Nate and I by 2 to keep # 1. **** I just cannot shake this guy. I threw two monster rollers on # 2 to get a shot at a 3. I choked the **** putt..... Arggggghhhh the pressure........ :(

FYI - the basket is in the long. Did not want you to think I had to roll for a 300 ft bogey. :)

Stephen and I are plugging away on the sign construction. We got a bunch done after Christmass and around New Year's, but my work has shut us down a little. We worked a couple of hours after a deer hunt this past Sunday 17th. I passed out a list a few weeks ago of the 'needs' for supplies to complete the project (paint, shingles, wood, angle iron, channel iron, and so one). I need a computer guru to help with the map!!! I want this to be a perfect areal view, tee pads, parking, restrooms, some ob lines, perfect! I have a meeting with the city Thursday to discuss this and the online course tour (presently about 130 slides with graphics...red/blue/white routes, distances, comments on holes, etc.). All help is needed and appreciated. I hope to be far enough along with the sign construction to be able to bring it to the Outdoor Center for 'display' and completion at the Ice Bowl. I will need help as this will be the Taj Majal of course signs.

Time is limited so the sign will not be ready or be stored temporarily at the 2005 Ice Bowl. I really pushed, but just could not get'er done. Course tour is coming along well. I am almost finished taking and formating picts of basket positions (we are to move them this weekend, then I will get another set of pictures). After the move and picts and format I will submit to the city for them to work on and install. I want to have a big release and hit their counter very, very hard. Also, we will have a BAB, Ice Bowl, and general meeting Jan 26, Thursday, at Pookie's house.

2005 Windrider memberships will be $10 for (2004) tag carriers (just keep the same tag) and $12 for new members. If a memeber (already paid member or lifetime) did not get a tag, you only pay $2 for a tag. Members will need to help with the BAB in June (a couple of work days will be planned).

When will we get new windrider shirts with our paid membership? Mine is about worn out. When will the sign be done? Do we have all the necessary equipment and waiting for man power? I will help out if we can just schedule a date.

How's that for a response to "is anyone out there?" :D

We talked about tags and t-shirts at the Windrider meeting...I need to clarify some things then I'll respond...I know that we will just use the same tags because Sheri has extras...not sure if we will do t-shirts...and we need to take in memberships sometime. Stephen and I work on the sign every weekend that we can. We've put in easily 100+ hours. It is just difficult to work a few hours and have to stop. My only time is to give up play to work on it, and I like to play in Lubbock at least once a week. BUT, N8 thanks for the offer and hopefully by March end we can get somethin in the ground. I have to get with the city for concrete, hopefully a table, and a few other things...scheduling may rely on them more than me.

Okay, sign update. Stephen and I are 90%+ finished with the construction. We have the structure made, seat boards cut and stained, a roof frame made and painted and mounted and edges cut and almost have shingles on, two 4x4 plywood pieces cut and painted and holes made, a frame and hinges welded on for both sides, plexiglass purchased (minor installation items). Still need to complete welds of hinges, install the locking covers, finish priming everything, installing the seat boards, and final painting of everything. Stephen and I are hoping to get out and work on it Friday evening/night and Saturday morning. (no return call yet). Also, Josh is to work on the diagram portion. Rob has a trailer that might work for transport (I can build a temp holder). I will need several players to help lift it on and off of the trailer. I have called the city to get them to plan for installation, etc.I hope to be able to go directly to a pre-cut hole and then have the city do the concrete and final installations. Soon after installation, I would like to have an 'unveiling' and maybe a small 'event' to include a putting tourney, maybe long drive, and other ? (video). The trouble is that I will be very busy in the last of April and all of May (oh well).

Also, I have been talking with the Hub City Brewery about becoming a weekly mini sponsor. Things look pretty good. I think that they are going to make a deal with me for 10-15% off of the bill for any Windrider member on Thurday nights after the mini (will have to show a 2005 membership card). And I think we will be able to hand a few discs up at the bar area as well. More later.

Attempt #2:

I will be in town this weekend, and I was hoping to catch some rounds. Is there a mini or any solid players going to be at the course this weekend? If so, please send me a PM.

May 05 2005, 10:46 PM
There is normally a mini that takes place Saturdays @ 10am but I know that alot of the players are planning to go to Amarillo to play in the DisCrazy C-Tier event. I am sure there still may be some that may not be attending so there may be a few there in morning.....Sorry :(

The new course sign is in! It was concreted in on May-25-2005...Finally. Stephen and I have been working on it since December. I am very happy that this project is (near) completed. Up next - Big Arms. I wanted to have an 'official' unveiling, with some events, but I just don't see it happening with the BAB just around the corner. Maybe we could do someting after the BAB. I NEED help on the course diagram portion...please contact me if you (anyone) can help with this issue. Also, I will try to get the on-line course tour onto the city website before the BAB (I only have 28 hours in a day though).

Misc updates: We will need to take a little action on this bundled affiliated club site pretty soon. We will again need to make some decisions on the membership status (price, tags, tee shirts, etc.). The Ice Bowl is just around the corner...I've got the Outdoor Center reserved for January 29, 2006 (and January 27, 2007). Outdoor Center reserved for the BAB for June 17 & 18, 2006. Lynn Patterson has volunteered to re-start/develop a website (much, much more later on this one). We're to get a few more pads at Mackenzie (well I hope, I keep trying anyway). Larry and Bo built a great deck on The Cliff Shot - absolutely amazing!!! Larry 'aquired' some church benches for the 8 Cliff Shots. McAlister is moving forward very slowly. I'm doing picture course tours of many area courses (will tie into the website). The course tour for Mackenzie is up at about 160 pictures (I just need to finish it and get it posted). And finally, there will soon be a West Texas (not really sure if that should be the title though) newsletter of misc stuff. There are some key guys that will begin to compile e-mails, provide thoughts, updates, flyers, registration pages, just stuff. Then we will e-mail out X times per year. Many things are 'in the fire'. This is why I don't ever get to play a full round anymore....in Lubbock. (I'm sure I missed something in this 'update')

Nov 09 2005, 07:56 PM
I noticed your site was down a few days ago, while running through my links page. If you want to post them at my site, you are welcome to do so in my gallery (the more the better). If you zip the largest images you have and email them to me it goes much faster, as I can batch add them. Include a course map if you have one. Or, I can give you limited ftp access for your photo upload, and host your club page for free. Whatever!

The tour is at about 180 pictures. Baskets are being moved for a few more picts. I hope to have some things finalized on this issue by end of December. Nancy Neal, with the city will load to the city site and I hope to make them available to 'many'.

Past BAB TD's meeting last night discussed tourney misc. Coming up we will need to figure out membership misc, course work, new course (other thread), etc.

Plan to move a few baskets, get some final picts, pass on the tour to the city around the first (and of course to you Joel). Some Tech players have gotten together and have officially formed a 'sanctioned' Texas Tech Club, Tech Disc Golf Club. I'm helping them out with discs, events, misc. They are going to help Lubbock disc golf by supporting events and occasional help at the course. They plan on having a kickoff membership event sometime in late Jan/Feb. They're not yet sure if it will be open to everyone or just members. It's great to have this huge group of players begin to organize. Let's all support them however we can!

Feb 18 2006, 07:58 PM
The plan was to only play a few holes. It turned out that we got started and never stopped...ended up playing all 21. He liked the differentiation (wow) of the course, ie; start open/long, then tight and two cliff shots, some water, then natural terrain, then long and open, then finish tight in trees. He liked flow ('cept one), sign, layout, pads, and so on. We really never did sit and critique hard though. It was really just a fun round of play. I strongly suspect that Rick will visit his family in Lubbock more often (now that he has played our course).

I think, bundled memeberships to save everyone $5 is now passed. Another thing for someone to decide is to setup the affiliated club site...again several benefits if this is done, one of which is that official's tests are free. Matt Ryan is to hold a Windrider, well really anyone interested in Lubbock area disc golf, meeting. He volunteered me to have the meeting at my house...March 1, 2007 at 7:00. I'll have a few snacks, but BYOB. Things to think about: tourney misc (dates, etc.), course layouts (Matt wants to begin to get records, possible handicapp system - I win!, etc.), mini monthly events, weekly events, course improvement and maintanence (we're likely loosing Larry), officials/TD (take test), and so on.

We had our meeting. Memberships are $15, get tag, opportunity to buy cheaper discs (non-members $2 extra), participate in Matt's three month-ish course layout series', maybe an end of year party and more. Matt will keep records for members...will post at a new web site (don't know it yet). Sheri is to be the lead person for Thursday play, Rob is to continue the Saturday play, and we're also to have 2:00 Sunday singles. Matt is to run a cancer charity event on Thursday April 19th (more later). We'll have a tourney in mid-June (maybe not the best date as we all know, but it's not a great idea to give up dates anymore either)....maybe a new name is in order: The Father's Day Fling. Thought were to do an evening round and then a night glow round (to escape the heat)...likely this one will be a C or an X Tier. The BAB is to move back to its original slot....October. We'll run it as a B Tier. We discussed a few other things, but only briefly: McAlister dirt work to start in mid-March, opportunities/situations for other courses, pretty much the city likely will not 'touch' anything DG until McAlister is done. All in all, the meeting was very good. The next meeting will be just around the corner at Sheri's; topics - Matt's update of his series, Matt's cancer event, the June and October tourney prep/misc (will be on individual threads).

The Texas Women’s Championship 2007 is April 21 & 22; we are interested in Texas club participation of this event. In the past clubs sponsored with merchandise and with man power. We want to see this continue. We want to challenge each club to send the most women from their area. We are trying to break the women only attendance record and what better place than Texas. We can use volunteers to escort, disc golf merchandise for ctps, a Texas size player packs, and anything surrounding lady golf. Something I would like to see our club sponsored girly stations. The club could pick a hole to set up a canopy with water, face wipes, candies and club hospitality towards the players.
The question is not if you are interested, but how you are interested in help.
Contact myself or Ed Coffey to work out the logistics. This is our ladies weekend…….So lets honor them with our support! Let us know your ideas, we maybe the tournament directors, but the event is Texas owned.

Larry update #1 - Larry called several weeks ago from Mexico, said 'he had limited minutes', click.

Larry update #2a - Larry called a week or so ago, said to tell everyone 'hi' and that he was still alive. He said that he is living on a beach with a 29 year old hottie with three kids. They fish all day, lay around, she works a little.

Larry update #2b - Well, 2a was all lies, except for the 'hi' part.

Larry update #3 - Larry called yesterday, 'hi' again, and he is going to have his basket set up at an Irish Pub for putting enjoyment. I could see Larry putting for nachos. Mexico road trip?

The lifetime memberships, as I understand it, were to initially have a way to get baskets in the ground. Since the early years there have only been a few of us (me included) donate money to be a life member. Our records are not what they should be as far as maintaining whom is a life member. I like lifetime things, Moody's, Circle R, Lubbock Windriders, Waterloo, soon to be HFDS and maybe PDGA one of these years :D

Yo. Thinking is hard. Memories are a fleeting thing. Nate you have to be the youngest life member (and the smartest as you will continue to play and maintain membership...that's what I say...in addition to wanting to give to the 'cause'). Ray, cool...I just did not know who was out there. I hope others come out (woops) also. I would like to somewhat 'settle' the situation so that we realy know (several questions come up every time we due memberships). I think it is important to honor the lifers.

0kay, immensely more importantly, is there really a girl in your world? Will she let you play DG? Does she play? Sipapu doubles for the honeymoon! I'll bring the beer. Finally...Congrats! Always a place to stay in Lubbock (and Jay, and Ray....etc).

And, I'm headed to DFW next week....lookin' to take money. Jon Lee and I are planning to play Bear Monday apx 5:30. I'm not sure of the next few days...

Next couple of weeks after COTO are bad for me and DG. I have to put in 40 before we fly out for our vacation to the NE. DC, NYC and Boston! What courses are in NYC or Boston?

Nate, congrats on the pending nuptials. Where in Mexico? Went to Puerto Vallarta for a wedding once and it was a blast! Wishing you two the best!

Playa Del Carmen...Should be a blast.

Thanks for the thoughts!

PKatt, as for the taking money thing. I owe you one. This Saturday is a one day event that Mace man is putting on out in Rockwall. You going to be in this weekend?

I flew in Monday 14th and had a little time to kill. I drove by the UTD course...looks short, flat, pretty open, don't go out of way to play. Then I drove to Allen and checked out that one...I'd like to play it. Then late, played Bear till the rain started. Tues I had only a little time..played The Colony...lost a disc. Then on Wed played Z-Boaz, two rounds and abain lost a disc. I lost more discs in a days span that in any month in years.

n8bitner
May 21 2007, 10:27 AM
That stinks...Zboaz is one of my favorites. Good thing you played that one twice. :D

May 22 2007, 12:47 PM
And the disc loss continues. Gordo threw a roller from pro 9 pad to the Burial Mound and parked it for one of the rare two's ever on the hole. I followed with a roller and watered mine for yet another disc loss. The silver lining is that this has forced me into some other next generation plastic...and I'm plesantly pleased. I think I'm gettin' a few more feet on the drives.

Remember, Windrider meeting 6:30 pm Wed. 23rd, my house, bring some chips/drinks. And tell everyone that is not online....

Gordo moves like the wind. I 'heard' that he moved to Pampa (again). We'll see how long he can survive without DG.

We should probably have another Windrider meeting soon...as in late July or early August. Some possible topics: Mackenzie course format touch ups, McAlister misc, 2007 BAB, One Disc Ace Race (?), 2009 tourney date selections, end of year meeting/tourney/misc, Ice Bowl.

Windrider meeting - Thursday, August 9th, 6:00 pm, Matt Ryan's house. Things to talk about - Mackenzie course format touch ups (locations, scores to be recorded, positions to be fixed, etc.), McAlister misc (maybe a 'grand opening' event), 2007 BAB (status, sponsors, course prep, etc), One Disc Ace Race (or informal ace race), 2009 tourney date selections, cash/disc/ace pot situations at mini's, end of year meeting/tourney/misc, Ice Bowl. ALSO, before the meeting, we will play a round on the MR course. After the meeting, we will see pictures and hear stories of Rob's, Jeremy's, and JJ's recent World(ly) adventures.

Wish I could be there! Hey Patrick, I moved. (within DFW) I'm one block from Greenbelt in Carrollton. When is your next trip to Dallas? I could go for a free beer.

Way to go dad! World Champ. Uncle Kenny with a fifth place finish in Pro Grandmaster! I feel like such a failure...

Mr Jim's Carrollton Open- Sept 15-16. Anyone coming? I'm all signed up. ATLEAST $1500 guaranteed ace pot. Over 1K guaranteed to 1st place in Open. It will fill up soon. www.titledisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com)

I'll be back in Dallas in a month-ish. I want to play Crowley (not played yet) and Audobon (been a long time since played it)...and always Cedar Hill and Rockwall). I'm going to have to start giving you strokes the way you've been playing. :D

We had a great meeting at Matt's. We played the MR course...Albert drove, and as always V putted for the win! We enjoyed Pam's (Matt's better half) hospitaltiy, had a meeting, but (most of us) never got to see Rob's pictures for Am Worlds (a few did, pretty cool). Jeremy didn't show with his media?

Marcus cleared things up for the BAB...the Windriders are putting up $1000...yes, One Thousand Dollas for the BAB. Anyone would be crazy to not come to Lubbock in October....specifially October 13/14...oh, according to Jerald....FEAR the DRIVE!! Three rounds, 24 holes, Bring it on. We discusse sponsors...please HELP! Marcus will be making final details soon....look for the next Chains of the Plains newsletter to have full info. By the way how does a person sign up for the Chains of the Plains....that newsletter that is so informational about area events? (Hint Jerry).

We also discussed McAlister status. It is a course...period. Yes, it needs help. One way to 'progress' it is to begin to play it. We voted to have a club function on the first Tuesday of the month....we will have to figure out what happens after daylight savings time ends.

We discussed the basket movement situations....format for August/September will be starting at hole 1: Medium/Long/Short. In my opinion, this is one of the better formats as two goes way long and several others are in pretty good positons.

We only breifly discussed a new 18 for Mackenzie...more discussion later.

xxx We voted to have Jon Lee as the 2008 Windriner president, Armondo 'Gordo' Garcia as VP, Jeff Ohnesorge as Treasurer, Nate Bitner as Secretary, and Jerald Locke as Stealer at Arms. And these 'stick' unless ya'll come to the BAB. xxx

Okay between the 'xxx' was not completely correct extept the come to the BAB part. I think all in all the Windrider meetings are working, are good for the club, good for disc golf in Lubbock. A few things not discussed: dates of next year events (and reservations for the facilities...well actually reservations for 2009), and an end of year event for Windrider members. But, the next Windrider meeting will be September xx at xxx's house....more later.

Jerry just published the last 2007 Chains of the Plains newsletter (October 2, 2007). In the newsletter and attachments are regional contact info, regional course info, a rules section, a list of upcoming tournements, links, and flyers/registration forms for upcoming events. The newsletter is for events and courses in West Texas, the Texas Panhandle, the South Plains, the High Plains, the Big Sky country, the Rolling Plains, Far West Texas, Eastern New Mexico, and Western Oklahoma. If you are not getting the newsletter contact Jerry above.....

Remember, all area course coordinators and of course any others, should reveiew the last Chains of the Plains and send updates to Jerry (above). Also, he will be needing updates for Ice Bowl dates, etc. Finally, if your not getting the newsletter (completely electronic), send Jerry a note.

The Windrider's will soon be selecting 'officers', events, dues, etc. We'll have a meeting sometime in December. I'll post here and at the course sign.

Rob Lee, multi-time world champion, got another one in the bag. Rob attended the Pro/Am Worlds in Michigan (August 2008) and started out with a win in the long drive contest over his pro senior grand peers. Rob, playing in his first world pro event, finished the tourney in the middle of the pack. World's next year will be held in Kansas City and will again be a Pro/Am. Let's get a big representation from Lubbock! Start saving and planning now.

JJ has been moving baskets on a regular cycle. It is really nice to have a good schedule back. He also has been doing some glow stick play as well. The BAB is coming soon. Several players have been cleaning, fixing, preping. Chris and Scott were out early am this past Saturday moving logs (from the flood we had). Chris moved a bunch more and also started weed eating parts of the course. VERY cool.

Matt and I have been updating a few sites. We've updated general info, directions, latitude/longitude for GPS, and so on. We added pictures in some areas. Take a look at the PDGA course directory info for Mackenzie and McAlister. Then take a look at dgcoursereview.com. This site is really pretty nice. We'll be adding a cleaning up things in the near future. I'm at 195 courses played, but now, with my job change, will have a very hard time to push past 200 courses.

I gave Matt some pictures to load for Mackenzie (at the dgcoursereview.com site. I've got pictures and notes for many, many courses. I'm not sure I'll load them or not as I'm extremely busy these days.

When I get some time, and then only maybe. New job (duties), new territory/accounts, daughter getting married soon, very elderly parental needs, and so on, make things hard for me to get the extra things done.
