View Full Version : 4th Annual Widdershins Open - GDSTour AM Only Event
10/30 at Bevier Park in Waukegan, IL
2 rounds of 18 on 12 hole existing course w/6 temp holes.
Glow best shot doubles to follow dinner break after event.
If enough pros come that want to play for cash, then I'll open a pro division for $30 (includes player's pack valued @ $10).

Yes, Women play free.

How are you juggling possibly opening a Pro division in an AM ONLY event? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of offering something which is supposed to be exclusively for Amateurs?

He is the TD of the event & that is how he is doing it. If you don't like it, don't play it.

When an Amateur or Junior asks the same question, will you allude the question with similar rudeness?
Seriously - why host an Amateur-only event and open it up to Pros for a reduced entry fee?
How will a Pro division benefit an Amateur event? I'd like to know! Educate me!
The GDS website says that GDS Tourstops are for Ams and Recs; it also says tournament directors are given leeway to host an event as they see fit, but mixing Pro cash is "not recommended".

I did say don't play it to you because you have complained about 3 events of ours this year & have yet to play one of them. I doubt you'll play this one so what do you care? I think my response has been similar to many of yours. I'll tell the players the same thing, "that is what the TD decided & that is the way he's doing it."
There is really nothing to educate you with. This is the way it's being done. He's giving the Pros a chance to play if they do show up.

That's the biggest crock of idiotic crap I've heard you utter yet.

I guess you can't handle simplicity. Then again, i'ts uasually a fiasco with you.
Jesus christ Jim, lighten up will you? If running a division where people can play for cash, which is 100% acceptable by Gateway's standards, will help boost attendance then why not?
Originally I wasn't going to do so but after some thought I realised that the odd Am who rides with pros might not come because they wouldn't have a way to get there. How is this any different from your 'Am' events where you did cash payouts across all divisions?
The only place where an open division has been advertised is in this thread and on the club message board. There's nothing on the flyers and to be honest, this close to the event probably won't affect the turnout at all.
All of the other divisions including the free women's division are still being offered and will be run regardless of number of entrants. All AMs will receive prizes above the already insane players pack they get for their entry.
Payouts will likely reach to around 50% of the field.
Lastly, its odd for you to b1tch and moan three weeks before a tournament. You usually wait for a couple days after the events you don't play to start kicking dust on peoples' shoes.

Who needs to lighten up? I asked valid questions and immediately received crap from Brett. Why get so defensive and testy at someone asking VALID questions? I made no negative assertions; just trying to understand the mix.
Your last post answered my questions. That's exactly what I was looking for in the first place. Thank you. Was it THAT hard to do?
When I ran events and paid Ams cash, they were usually unsanctioned events open to all divisions; your event is well advertized as an AM-ONLY event. When you opened it up to Pros, I had questions as a player AND as a person who has run many events.
If you don't like dust on your shoes, get off the field. Answering questions is part of the job of a TD.

Jim, answering questions is the job of the TD but you've been a pain in the butt. We've had no problems with anyone about our 4 events this year. We've answered all questions concerning our events in timely & polite fashion. If you were going to play, maybe we'd feel like it was worth the time answering, but since you aren't we are tired of dealing with you.

Perhaps I am a pain in the butt because I am the only person asking good questions.

No, it's called bitterness.

Sorry for the thread drift Mirth :D. I'm excited about this event & having Gateway involved in an area that basically has no Gateway Discs. The glow golf will be fun as well. Thanks for all of you hard work!
We'll be having a couple Texas Ams coming to this event and a friend of theirs from about an hour and a half south west of Waukegan.
I am really looking forward to playing in this event. Hope everyone else is also!!!
a little under two weeks till the event & there are 12 preregistrations!
Preregistration is not manditory, however it guarantees your spot in the tournament and it enables you to receive your player's pack ahead of time.

I think there is a past or present World Champ coming to this event incognito. I'm not supposed to point him or her out. If you recognize the Champ, feel free to ask for an autograph, but don't put the disc on e-Bay on Monday. That is so sleazy. :D

how bout a recap of what happened
(for those not on the club's message board)
chicago area had some wind this weekend
53 showed up to play in the 20-30 mph winds with gusts over 50. One gust was so strong that it blew over one of our temporary baskets - an Innova DiscCatcher!
IIRC, only one person shot under par all day. I'll hopefully get a chance to work on the results tomorrow or the day after and get them posted.
