View Full Version : Beginner looking to leach off more experienced players...
Well, really, I'd just like to find out if there's any weekly tournaments, or gatherings where more advanced players meet up and play local courses. I'm trying to learn side-arm, and x-step backhand and I feel like I could learn a lot quicker if I could watch someone who knows what they're doing.
thanks.

If you are in East Bay - try Berkeley at 5pm on wednesdays (switches to noon on Saturdays after daylight savings time.)
$5 buy in - $1 to the ace pool - its handicapped, so any skill level can win $. Contact Neil Bondy for more info -

Great group of friendly folks who will be willing to show you the course and offer informal tutoring. Bring some plastic you don't mind losing if you havent played Berzerkeley before.
Great, how many people usually show up? And would it be cool if I just came along to watch? I kind of over did it the other day practicing my sidearm drive with some pretty off mechanics, and i want to give my shoulder a couple days rest.
Also, which entrance to the park is the beginning of the course - Addison, Bancroft, or Shellmound? I went to check out the course the other day around 6:30 pm, and when I pulled in the parking lot at Shellmound, well... I just felt compelled to turn around pretty fast. :D
come in on Bancroft and park at the playground, otherwise you'll run into some of Berkely's local "flavor". Also the tee to hole number one is right there by the parking lot towards the water near the artwork. Neil and all the other regulars out there are great guys and you can definately mooch some skills off of playing with just about anybody. That's actually about the best way to get better, if not the best way to get better. Even in your first round with more advanced players you'll notice an improvement in your game!!
excellent, i look forward to it!
i've noticed that there's not really any on-line information about Aquatic Park's disc golf course. maybe i'll bring my camera out and throw something together.
also, i've heard there is a make-shift dg course in Oakland's Knowland park (by the zoo), anyone got any info on this?

San Francisco also has a weekly handicapped tournmanent on Sundays. See: web page (http://www.sfdiscgolf.org/weekly/index.html)
Fyi, there appears to be a weekly $5 doubles round on Thursdays ~6:00 PM at Chabot Park in Hayward.
