Howdy Folks. I hope y'all are ready for some ACE GOLF in the OAKS!!!!!

I was thinking about running Discraft's 1 disc Ace Race at the Vet on Sunday, September 5th. It will be held after the Sunday morning mini, flex start between 3-6pm, or earlier if y'all desire. The course will be even shorter this year, guaranteeing more ACES for everyone!

This year $20 gets you, a hat, a bag tag, 2 prototype Z-discs, and your entry fee for the event. The rules will be the same as last year. The man or woman with the most aces wins. If no aces are hit, then the man or woman with the most metal hits wins!

Are there any objections to this date? Is there anything else going on in the Metroplex that weekend?

I know that Mace is doing a Food Drive event on Saturday 9/11. The Carrollton Open is Sat and Sun 9/18 and 9/19. Also, the ADGA's club Championships are usually at the end of September.

Please post your questions and comments here.

I can't wait to do the Ace Race again......nothing compares to Ace Golf in the Oaks at the Vet for this type of format. As long as the new prototypes are NOTHING like the breeze it will be fun and my frustration level will stay pretty low  :D

Is everybody okay with the afternoon of 9/5/04?

I'm wanting to use TitleDisc for entries, as well as PAYPAL for our online users. Of course, the good old fashion way too, signing up at the mini's at The Vet.

Over 50 players have RSVP-ed a players package for the 9/5 Ace Race at The Vet! The ADGA, and myself are going to buy a "few" extra players packages for the uninformed, and procrastinators :DThose will be alloted on a first come, first serve basis.

If there is interest again, we will do an optoinal $2 or $5 on the side for cash. All aces thrown by players that are in the side pool will be split evenly.

We might even borrow Jim Davidson's idea and have a distance competition with the new mold.

Titledisc should be down, but you probably still can enter by visiting www.sportdiscs.com (http://www.sportdiscs.com) or you can always email me at hero_disc@hotmail.com

Also, on 9/15 at Bear Creek in Grapevine, we have around 20 players that have RSVP-ed a package. It looks like there will be lots of acing going on in September around Dallas/Fort Worth.

Reminder:

If you throw an Ace and DO NOT win the Grand Prize at any of Discraft's 1 disc Ace Races, Discraft will make a special consolation prize. Last year the consolation prizes were the new mold with a stamp that read "I aced at the 1 disc Ace Race." I would imagine that this year's will be similar.

DFW Reminders:

We are extending the window in which you may sign up for either of DFW's Ace Races. If you want to play the Ace Race at The Vet on 9/5, you must RSVP a package by 8/26.

If you want to play the Ace Race at Bear Creek in Grapevine on 9/15, you must RSVP a package by 9/7.

The Discraft 1 disc Ace Race at the Vet has Sold Out!!!! Between the club and myself, we purchased an extra 10 players packages, and all but 2 of those have been spoken for. (So actually, we are not quite sold out :D) However, we expect these 2 to go as the weekend nears.

If anyone else wants to participate at The Vet they will have to pay $20, use someone else's extra disc, and i'll order them a players package with my Grapevine Ace Race on 9/15. That way nobody will be turned down, and everybody will be able to shoot for the grand prize!

Yes, there are plenty of options this weekend for disc golf.

Mckinney and ZBoaz are both doing charity functions on Saturday 9/4, please attend one of those.

As for the Ace Race at The Vet:

This year's disc looks and feels SUH-WEET! I can't wait until 9/5 to give it a try. It is much more approach disc like than last year's Breeze. It should be more stable, and faster. It kind of reminds me of a Buzzz, but looks and feels like it will be a little less stable. Should make for some fun times at the Ace Race. I definitly see more aces this year!!!!!!!!!!

Again, if you ace and do not win, Discraft will send you a consellation disc saying "i aced at the 1 disc ace race."

The second annual Discraft 1 disc Ace Race at The Vet was a HUGE success!

First off, I'd like to give a huge thanks to the people that helped make this happen. Discraft, Claydog Brumit, Terry Toolen, Skip Maxwell, Jason and Ginetta Chamberlain, Don and Laura Quattlebaum, Brian Lamoreaux, Chris Pepperling, Clayton Bethman, and Dennie Ortega. I'm sure i'm forgetting a few of you, but that's what happens to my brain when i get too much sun. <font color="blue"> THANK YOU ALL! </font>

65 player's braved the afternoon heat and humidity that North Texas's Veteran's Park can be known for.

A total of 11 Aces were thrown today by 10 different golfers. Although it seemed that everybody hit some metal, and several golfers aced, there was one who stood above the rest.

<font color="blue">Brad Michael of Glen Rose, Tx</font> ( 70 miles from The Vet ) took home the Grand Prize by throwing 2 aces and having 1 metal hit. He graciously gave the 3 or 4 members of his card one of the full color "winner" discs that he won. It didn't surprize me in the least, that's the kind of man he is.

There was $140 up for grabs in the optional $5 acepot. Chris Pepperling, and Dennie Ortega split it for $70 each.

We borrowed JD's idea and held a long distance competition with the prototype mold. Chris Pepperling won it with a throw of 340 feet, slightly uphill  ( I think we were hustled! :D)

We are already counting the days before we'll have another excuse for ACE GOLF in the OAKS!

I had a great time playing with everyone... Man, out of all of those aces only Dennie and I signed up for the 5 on the side :DThat was too bad, I liked the distance comp as well even though I only edged out Q by a few feet... The disc was pretty cool, although I did think it was a little understable for my taste but with and ace and two metals the first time you pick it up it is not to shabby... Thanks again to John I had a great time, and congrats to Brad couldn't think of a better person to win...

The 1st annual Ace Race at Bear Creek was a great success!

First off, i'd like to give a <font color="blue"> HUGE THANKS </font> to Discraft, Michael Gibson, and Caleb Randall for helping make this happen.

32 people braved the heat, humidity, crowded course, and poison ivy that Bear Creek is known for.

It seemed like everyone hit some metal, and a few people's disc hit all chains yet failed to stick. However, there were 4 aces thrown by 4 different players.

After it was all said and done, we had a 3 way tie. <font color="red"> Dave Villanger, David Ireland, and Jeff Ireland </font> all threw 1 ace and had 1 metal hit. The 3 guys went into overtime, and <font color="red"> Jeff Ireland </font> took home the grand prize.

Of the 4 players that aced, only 1 of the players participated in the optional $5 on the side..... <font color="red"> Dave Villanger </font> took home the entire kitty.....worth $65. Congrats.

I'd like to thank all of the participants, and i look forward to hosting the 2nd annual Ace Race at Bear Creek next September.

Sep 16 2004, 06:41 PM
Yeah Dave Villinger was on my card. I was hoping he would take it all, but he made more cash than he spent so rock and roll Dave !! I think the daylight ran out on every body towards the end which hindered the last minute surge, but I had a great time anyway. The disc glides with no effort at all. Wonder what they'll call it??

Looks like we will have a few DISCRAFT ACE RACES in the DFW area this September.

With Lamoreaux in the driver's seat in Cedar Hill...it should be one heck of an ACE RACE. 36 different holes in the most beautiful disc golf park in the DFW area.

Bear Creek in Grapevine will also host an Ace Race. We had 36 participants there last year, and looking for another sweet ace race this year.

Ace Golf in the Oaks at The Vet!!!! Woo-Hoo!!! Can't go wrong there. Veteran's had the most participants across the counrty in 2003's ace races, let's try to do it again!!!

Also, HOT OFF THE PRESS, Discraft teammates, Danille Vargas, Dagon Owens, and Myself will be hosting a clinic in WACO with an ACE RACE to follow...sometime in September. The clinic will be for everyone, with emphasis on our WONDERFUL WOMEN of disc golf.

Quick question: Do you plan on playing in 1 event, 2 events, or all of the events?

Evan,

The dates are undetermined right now. All of them will be sometime in the month of September. Cedar Hill will probably be on a Saturday either before the mini, or in place of the mini.

Veteran's will probably be on a Sunday following the mini(that's what we've always done), or we might try a Saturday morning...we'll ask at the mini's and get a feel for what people want.

Bear Creek in Grapevine will be on a Wed night in place of the 6pm mini.

Pre-registration is REQUIRED!!!! We will start taking names and entry fees mid August. In previous years, it's been $20 for the proto type discs, hat or shirt, bagtag, and entry fee. One heck of a deal for a $20 spot. Looking forward to having you there.

Isn't the ace at GV at $800 or so for next week?

Good job not going to Canton with her. I went sometime last year and both of us admit it was a huge mistake. Not many males were there. That could have been an entire day of golf...it was a Saturday. Oh well.

I'm talking about YOU arlingtonites staying in arlington. :D

Nolan and his posse came out last wed night, GV gave him a hard time....a really hard time..+1 :) David Rose shot -9, Fleshner shot -7, i shot -6. It is a much harder Wed night course in North Tarrant County than it is in South Tarrant County.

Sep 07 2005, 06:06 PM
Yea Yea Yea........ +1 is not good at all. I will have to come over there and show you guys how it is done. I will try to make my arrangements tonight to be able to come out there.

All because you said do not come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:cool:

I seem to recall seeing just a moment ago, I do not need your birthday gift!! I already own or co own a couple of holes. :D

Please visit http://www.sportdiscs.com/aceracesurvey.html for the ACE RACE survey. Your comments count towards this disc's fate.

We had 36 participants at Bear Creek, that's more folks than our biggest mini this year. Thanks for the support.

I was lucky, and won with 2 aces and 2 metal hits :D. However, as always, i never accept 1st place at an event that i'm hosting......so the GRAND PRIZE was passed down to 2nd place. GARY SHUGART wins Bear Creek's ACE RACE with 1 ace and 2 metal hits. Congrats GARY. Enjoy that $300 GRAND PRIZE!

Look for 2 more ace races in the DFW area.

Sept. 25 at Veteran's Park in Arlington @ 5pm
Oct. 22 at Lorch Park in Cedar Hill @ 3pm

Sep 08 2005, 10:57 AM
Thanks, Dog.

Pat a couple more years and I will be there. Too bad there is not a division for those who feel like Masters age, but not quite there yet. How about each kid you have you can count one more year. I would have been in Masters several years ago!!!!!!!!

Way to go John! 2 aces!!!! We had a good time at the Vet last night. Covalt and Bethmann both shot -13's. Dave was on our card and he hit at least 10 in a row. ON FIRE!!!! I only shot -8 with a bogey on 18. $100 in the ace right now!

From what John says, I can't wait to try the new disc!!!

Okay, i think i figured it out. Skipper was really concerned about this on Sunday, so i've been doing some thinking. Since not everyone is going to want to participate in the ace race b/c it might be an expensive day, we need to run ace golf in the oaks at the same time, on the same course.

Basically, we'll play 36 holes of ace race / ace golf in the oaks. If you are playing for Discraft's $300 grand prize, you'll be using the ace race disc for all 36 holes. If you want to play in a small cash side pool, and don't want a shot at Discrafts $300 prize, you can use whatever disc you want to.

The ace race will be $20. That gets you 2 proto discs, hat, supercolor mini, 36 holes of fun, and a shot at a $300 prize.

The ace golf in the oaks should be $2 - $5, shooting at a small cash pool only.

If an ace race participant wants to shoot at the cash as well, then he/she will have to pay $2 - $5 to get into that pool, but still has to throw the ace race disc.

This way, everyone gets to play. Make sense?

Sep 15 2005, 02:05 PM
Wow. Way to go. -13 and you wonder why I don't come out, hehe. I like my #10 tag and want to keep it, thank you.

OK. Let's start with an easy one:

Who said this?

"Well ya see, it's like this... A herd of buffalo
can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when
the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones
at the back that are killed first This natural selection is
good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the
whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In
much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain
cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we
know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain
cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker
brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why
you always feel smarter after a few beers."

We had about 30 participants at Arlington's Ace Race. The event followed the Club Championships which made for ONE long day of fun in the sun.

Tim Payne won the event with 1 ace and 2 metal hits. Congrats TIM. Enjoy that $300 GRAND PRIZE! There were several other aces, but i can't remember who off of the top of my head b/c of the cold yellow carbonated waters that flowed freely from the JUG of RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Okay, so better late than never. Discraft must have had a little too much on their plate with the Players Cup, The US Amateur Disc Golf Championship, The Memorial and The DGLO b/c they are just now sending me discs for the Ace Racers that aced and did not win. The disc they sent is their newest driver, THE elite Z-SURGE. If i owe you one, i now have them to give to you. Thanks.
