Just looking for a few suggestions.

I live across the street from a forest, open field with elevation changes on one end, and corn/soy field. I have ample space for a short nine hole course, by just using small parts of the field and the forest.

I would like to setup a course that would challenege my game, short tight wooded holes with a few longer ones, and long open holes. I think 9 holes is a realistic vision, but I can't use baskets. I need something that is relativley small and not easily noticed as a target. Also not very expensive if possible. I wouldn't like to spend a fortune as I would leave most of the targets out, and I definetly don't feel like throwing my disc into trees for practice.

I have one basket I could drag out there for one of the field holes, but need to think of something for the other 8. I've already begun to scope out holes in the forest.

I could setup teepads with spray-paint and go over them every week. I just need some suggestions on how to go about this, maybe someone has done something similar to this?

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I have 3 baskets set up on about 5 of my 8 acres so that there are three fairways going to each basket from different angles. On the bad side, you can't have multiple groups playing because some of the fairways criss-cross each other. On the good side, I only had to buy three baskets and didn't have to use every square inch of land I have.

By the way, I used to play at the old Libertyville course when I was a student at Northwestern back in 86-87. That was a great course. Sorry to hear they took most of it out. Never heard why.

So use a few baskets in order to setup mulitple holes, interesting.

Yeah I had never played it but I heard great things about it. I think they made it 9 simply because too many pedistrians and such were complaining and it wasn't worth it to the park district. Also I think someone got caught selling dope or something. :( Which is never a good thing for a course

It was simply that after they put in the bike paths, they wanted to remove the holes that would conflict most with the paths (like blind drives around a corner right into the bike path) and they realized they no longer had room for 18 holes. If it's any consolation the current 9 hole course is much better than the original 9 hole course that Adler was when it first was installed in 1978.

Interesting insight on what happened out there. I remember playing in the winter and seeing cross country ski trails set up. Sounds like they wanted to nix the course anyway. Why would you design a bike trail through a golf course unless you wanted the golf course to go away? Glad to hear that the 9-hole course is a good one. There seems to be a plethora of 9-hole courses in Chicagoland.

Yes, I do think it was removed by design.
