View Full Version : Buying disc's in Calgary? Arranging a game in Canmore?

Hi, two quick questions...

What are some places where a few of us who would like to try disc golf for the first time can pick up some discs in Calgary? We'd like to get a variety of discs (from driver to putter) in order to "play the game properly".

What are the rules/ etiquette for getting on a disc golf course? Are they generally pretty open or do you book them some how? Are they free or are they managed? I'm in particular interested in the one in Canmore, a group of 8 of us are planning on going out to play.

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Scott,

You can get discs at Lifesport in Kensington. There's also a couple of guys who sell discs out of their cars and are often down at the course ... ask around.

There's no booking or anything required to play. All the courses in the province are free, except for Parkland, which is a private community park.

You just go down and play. Large groups are allowed and the ettiquette is to let faster or smaller groups play through to avoid any traffic jams. As group sizes get larger than 6 or so, it gets really slow. Groups of 4 or 5 work well, but again, there's no limit.

One last thing on discs ... if you're used to a 175gm ulti disc, you'll be happy to know it is approved for disc golf use (by the PDGA). You're more than welcome to use these lids if you have them ... but the game is much better enjoyed using the golf specific discs.
;)
If you're heading out to Canmore, they sell discs at the Nordic Center as well.

Have FUN!!!
