View Full Version : World Class Course - updates
I have really been enjoying Mr. Houck's updates on the courses at the National Disc Golf Center. Since I have grown up in the Age of Hype, I was wondering if we could get some more hype from other 'World Class Courses' currently being installed...
Nockamixon: Last we heard was 13 holes completed?
Wolfe Woods @ Warwick: Last we heard was 10 holes completed?
WaterWorks on steroids: Haven't heard anything about this one for a while, but maybe I missed it. What is/will be the name of this course?
San Saba: Am I correct that 3 courses are finished?
Any other courses currently being installed that would fit into the World Class catagory?
Thanks in advance for the hype! :D

The 'Water Works on Steroids' in KC is in Blue Valley Park. Though I've only played it twice as a temp course, I believe all indicators are a GO for permanent installation in the near future. This will be a long course with a high degree of difficulty...due to many factors...calling for a variety of shots to approach some tighter greens & to get out of trouble! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

we've received the "go-ahead" to complete the final 5 holes which should be quite different than the rest of the course. open, hilly holes with a mix of par 3s, 4s and 5s. this should be complete by the end of summer barring any unforeseen circumstances.
right now, maintaining the initial 13 holes is a job itself. since last year however, there has been much improvement in the quality of the fairways, many now are "mow-able" when they weren't last year. thanks, kevin
Sweet, thanks for the update guys. The landscape of DG is definitely changing for the better :D

Three complete courses so far in San Saba. Another may be in the works when John can find the time :D

Wolfe Woods at Warwick, adjacent to the Animal 18 course (with 2 permament baskets on every hole), has dramatically improved over the past 2 months. For our big Animalfest (PDGA B-tier) tourney this coming weekend, we will be using 11 of the new holes to some degree. Eventually this course will be a Pro Par of 70 with a meandering creek coming into play on 12 of the 18 holes. It will require a lot of regular maintenance until it is playable as a recreational course. Ultimately the parks dept plans to clear the fairways of stumps and weeds and plant grass, allowing them to get back into the wooded fairways and mow. For the Animalfest event we have done a lot of weed-wacking to at least get the 11 holes really looking sweet. We're hosting an NT event in 2005 so that will keep us on out toes thru the winter.

Is Wolfe Woods named after Scott? If not, it should be!

Is Wolfe Woods named after Scott? If not, it should be!
Absolutely! With par four & par five holes, placement golf, severe elevation changes, woods holes, open holes, and a meandering stream throughout, it was named in his memory. Scott would have loved it!

In the past year some dedicated volunteers have turned an easy 18 hole course at Milo McIver state park (Estacada, Oregon) into a 27 hole monster. This course has a mix of par 3s,4s,& 5s and will make you use every shot in your bag. Those of you playing the Beaver State Fling (Super Tour event, 8/28-29) will get to enjoy the new course first hand.
