View Full Version : SOCAL / NORCAL MUD SLINGING THREAD
i thought it would be nice for our socal and norcal brothers and sisters to have a place where we could come together and just talk smack to/about each other.personally i have alot of great friends up north and enjoy it when i get to see them, but that doesn't mean i wouldn't enjoy talking smack about them either.besides it does the heart good to be able to have a good laugh with your friends
so keep it clean... :o

I'll get in on that! But I might have to work both sides of the debate, as I might be moving to SoCal soon ( :p). Y'all have great weather, but Norcal indisputably has the best courses and best golfers in the country. :D
are you saying you go both ways dave
i've heard that about you guys up north :D
ps
my mom lives in vacaville and i love to play the courses up north.i'll be up there in the last week of may, let's hook up and play a round

Hey, much better here than the Eldo Open thread...
...by the way, you NorCal people making our tourney, remember we start with an airhorn blast, not a cowbell!

Topdog,
I'm thinking about going to Lubbock, yes.
So what is the cost to get into the ace pool and play the skins? And just exactyl how do you play the skins format with so many players? Explain please! And does it really start at noon or am I gonna be really late when I show up at 11?!
topdog
May 26 2004, 12:00 PM
I might be going to Lubbock. I am taking my girlfriend and her kids there to catch a bus to Tenn. If you want a ride back let me know.
Yes it starts at noon so get there a little early. You first pay $2 for the ace pot. Then everyone draws cards all the same number are in groups usually 5 or 6 per hole. If you lose every hole you lose $18 for a total of $20. There has be 30+ people the last two weeks.

Hey SOCAL locs-
I am a devout NORCAL golfer with my own prejudices and misconceptions about LA area courses. :DDue to unforseen circumstances beyond my control, I will be moving to Santa Monica in August. I have played OG, LaMa, and HB a few times each, but I think my closest course will be Long Beach. Any suggestions on which local courses have a strong club presense I can get in on? I like to be involved at whatever course I will be calling home. Are there any good weekly handicapped tourneys? Monthlies? Opportunities to help ut with sanctioned/non-sanctioned tourneys? What are my best resources for finding out about course involvement? I have been to the various OG homepages and checked out socaldiscgolf.org without much luck. Any suggestions?
Hope to see you @ Eldo, daveoh...the nicest course around...
...we also run the best Monthlie, but as for 'strong' clubs, H.B. takes the cake. and I hear OG now has a club with 100+ members...
Lama and H.B. have weeklies; not sure about the rest.
...want to HELP make a strong club? We did marginally adequate on the sponsorship front regarding our 'yearly'...if that's your bag. We also need a designated photographer, now that my camera has a stomach ache!
rhett
May 26 2004, 06:26 PM
HB has the strongest club by far. But if you want to be a mover and a shaker, ElDo and LaMa could defintely use some help. ElDo has a loose social scene centered around the monthlies that seems like it could go somewhere. LaMa struggles to get people to get involved. At HB you step right into a strong club and be a part. SoCal itself is in dire need of anyone to take an interest and step up to help out.
Don't take offense slo.

May 26 2004, 11:27 PM
DAVE! You're moving? ****, dude. What's up with that? SoCal will be very lucky to get you and Alyssa down there. Best of luck!
Rhett, I'm not sure what I could take offense at...seemed like just facts, there...
Strenghtwise, we have but one 'TD-minded' person here, so if someone like that came by and ran up our hole-pole, we'd most likely salute...we're more helpful than organized!

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! Is it confirmed that we will be battling it out at LaMa this Year?
Dave, I live a block away from the Santa Monica/LA border. The course I can get to the fastest, especially with the traffic nightmares up here, is Oak Grove. But Whittier, HB, Eldo, LaMa are all less than an hour from SM - on the morning weekends. If you're trying to get anywhere after 5 pm, give yourself more than an hour... much more... and fill your gas tank and empty your bladder... just tips I wish someone had let me in on when I first moved here! :D

Yea , I know.................................
A couple of things needed for traffic driving.
A good CD player and Air conditioning.
These two things will help with the Ignorant and Lousy Drivers.
How do some of these people pass their driving tests ?
No speak'a English ? No Pay attention ? What is Focus ?
If your doing something else besides driving , maybe you shouldn't be driving.
We Love LA
Socal is cool unless you like disc golf or clean air. Sad but true. it's just not happening, and almost seems to be regressed to what disc golf was 4 or 5 years ago. Go to LaMa to play, HB, OG, and ElDo if you want to find some heads to hang with. Stay away from Reese and Rhett and you won't get too discouraged.
Peace

Hey Cali golfers. I have a friend moving to Burbank from NC in a few days. I think he will be living near Disney and where Leno does his show. I'm not totally sure, never been out that way. I will probably go out to visit him next year. I've got a few questions. What would be his home course? Also, what tourney is close to there that I could come play with him when I visit... preferably an A tier. Thanks for your help. If you guys ever need a place to stay in NC, holla!

Eddie, closest course to Burbank is Oak Grove bout 15 mins away. Socal has a big tournament in September at La Mirada which is about a half an hour from Burbank. Check Socaldiscgolf.org for more info~peace, jonjon~

Did I meet you at the Fly Mart at Worlds last year in Flag? I had framed photos at my table. I think we traded cards (?) and I'm recognizing that cool logo - fire basket.
Anyway, Disney is located in Orange County, near Eldo in Long Beach and La Mirada. Leno does his show in Burbank which is up in the LA area, about 45 miles North. If he's moving to Santa Monica, that's where I live and I think Oak Grove is the closest to here...
This isn't mud-slinging!! Come on, where's the insults, and put-downs?? You know "I don't play in Northern Mexifornia, too much pollution..." or "Those hillbillies in the mountains of NorCal scare me, especially when they drag their knuckles down the mountains to play disc golf...". The Challenge Cup is for bragging rights and fun. An historical problem has been getting the people to show up. A fun place like Vegas would add another reason to go. I suggested that a couple of years ago because we had a ton of no-shows from NorCal at Santa Maria one year (those guys call Santa Maria "SoCal" when it is mid-Cal") and then the following year SoCal had a mega-no-show turnout at Stockton.
The problem was people not wanting to go. So what's the solution? How about Vegas? Cheap flights from everywhere and mopre of a destination draw.
I didn't hear anyone talking about Vegas last weekend, though. Were you juts hearing "old news"?

Pterrance D. Actyl spreads only the word from the source; and good horse manure on his legendary vegetable garden.
I got a nice winter garden going: garlic, onions, lettuce, celantro(hoping that there won't be a freeze), broccoli, swiss chard, carrots.....etc.....whatta ya need? Oh, ya...snow peas! They rarely make it into the house. They taste best outside.

An historical problem has been getting the people to show up. A fun place like Vegas would add another reason to go.
The problem is, it's TOO much fun. If we went there, about 25% of both teams wouldn't show up b/c they were out too late/early partying and gambling.
Plus, they owe us 2 trips south. They seem to be forgetting about how we went UP to Stockton and then UP to Santa Cruz. I wish the team captain would grow a spine. (Yep, more ******* and complainin!)
:D:p
and in the end Norcal still has the bucket...it was a great time-I recommend the trip to anybody---anywhere it is being held...

Final tally was never revealed. Only that we made up some gound on Sunday. How much ground? Who knows. Was it enough to make it even seem close? No one will tell. :)
This from Pterry D. Actyl on another thread:
Rico's half NORCAL anyway! Just ask him.
GREAT! We'll just have NorCal host one in SYLMAR, and everyone will be happy! :D
After Saturday I don't think anyone wanted to know any more==43 to 17 was a fairly decent stomping and on Sunday my partner and I went 3 and 1--just about enough to close it out w/ just our points. But there's always next time. :D

NORCAL won both days. It was close on Sunday until Travers pulled 3 sweep cards out of his pocket. Game over.

Wow,,, that really sucks! I can't believe how much rain cal has gotten!! It's like the day after tomarrow with all of this freaky weather going on there. How long does it take for the courses to dry out?
most of this course (oak groove) will dry out in about a week, the holes pictured are in the wash so they might take a long time to dry out,
eldo (long beach) has a couple holes under water but for the most part is ok
My home course, locally world famous El Dorado Park DGC, shot today, during a rain lull.

There's usually a fairway, and a wide road between these guys and the green area in the background.
huntington beach has a problem with drainage so they have a few hole with lots of water as well
I love that!! Locally world famous!!! Thats funny!! Like saying they are world famous in their own minds!!! :p

Who's gonna be there from SoCal?

The only reason NorCal wins is because SoCal's good players aren't SoCal members. So have fun playing our MA2's...

I'm spending the Holidays with my dad. His first Christmas without my mom in 52 years. She just passed away a couple of months ago. I'm trying to get him involved in Disc Golf and outdoor activities , meeting people and having fun.

Only the captains really know for sure. NorCal chooses its players from series points from last year's season.
I don't know what SoCal does to choose their team.
i might be going but I havn't been contacted from Travers yet.
I know I don't have enough points but it seems to be difficult to get Open players out there. Jah said I might take his spot.

Dude, what do you really know? I've seen some great players from SoCal at the event. You really don't know what you're talking about. You haven't been around long enough. It's just brash youthfulness I'm detecting. All of the best players are never there for both teams. It would be nice to see "every" top rated player at the event. It just doesn't happen. You should try to get on the team.
So Rico isn't very good, huh?
Penn State, baby!!!!

Steve Rico hasn't been a SoCal member for a couple of years.
He still makes the team each year, though.

Hey Kenny ,
I'll quote you just a bit here. And I totally agree " All of the best players are never there for both teams. It would be nice to see "every" top rated player at the event. "
I personally know of some awesome players , up and down the coast , both NorCal and SoCal !!!!! Some are actually more than outstanding !!!! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
