View Full Version : worst lie???

Apr 09 2004, 10:30 AM
i was playing at a course here in Richmond last week and on hole two I was putting for birdie from about 25 feet away. I hit the basket but it rolls out. Than, it starts rolling on the ground down a slight slope till it stops about 15 feet away on a nice pile of horse poop.
i was just wondering what some of your worse lie's have been while playing. (not including being o/b)

Similar story: Tinicum Park, hole 6 a few years ago. Hippie John Ginsberg throws one of his patented forehand rollers to within about about 15 feet for a deuce, which is quite an accomplishment on this hole. Unfortunately, where it came to rest (which is very difficult for most players throwing a regular backhand shot) in the trees just short of the polehole is where one of the campers from the nearby campground chose to take a dump. We fell over on the ground we were laughing so hard.

they're working on it, having consistency problems between production runs :)

I'm feeding my cows "glow" feed and crossing my fingers!

Apr 09 2004, 05:14 PM
Heck I would give them some of the old KC Feed for champion cows!

My worst was this january. I was tossing in my back yard and I threw my putter right through a pumpkin that had been sitting there since halloween.

I also threw a bad drive way up into some trees. When I found my disc, there was a dead bird on top of it. Aparently it carried the bird down as it went through the branches. :D:eek:

None of these were playable lies, but . . .

3. In a ditch full of very diluted, but still recognizable, raw sewage.

2. In some grass - the kind that's 8 feet high and leaves tiny, fiberglass-like hairs embedded in your skin. And causes a rash.

1. Down a storm drain. Not as nasty as the other two, but I took my first ever trip down a manhole to get it!

Just remembered my worst playable lie:

My drive landed in some deep rough/jungle, right in the middle of a community of wolf spiders!

Dead center of the Brazos river from hole 8 teebox on Cameron East.

Apr 10 2004, 12:13 AM
Embedded in the face of a small cliff, about 10 feet off the ground, and about 5 feet below the "fairway". Took some fancy balancing on tree roots, and a long stick to get to that sucker...

So what is the distance record for a lump of cow sh*t?

Apr 26 2004, 12:56 PM
I have lived in Iowa for a year now, and am yet to see someone thow a cow pattie on the DG course... is there something people aren't telling me?

Apr 26 2004, 01:08 PM
We never said it was ON the DG course. And I'm sure the CCTA (Cow Chip Throwers Assoc.)are trying establish themselves as a legitimate sport, but alas they are just looked at by mainstream folks as...them trash talkin sh*t throwers. Wait til MAXIM mag get a hold of them! We'll look like angels!

Actually, several years ago at VEISHEA there was a horrible cow-chip accident and ever since VEISHEA has been "dung free." I heard this year the students were so mad about it they trashed campustown. ;)

On Hole #7 at Pease Park (Austin)…for the last several months now, there has been a small group (Band? Tribe? Swarm?) of homeless kids (2 guys, 2 s, and a mongrel mutt) living beneath the bridge between #7’s basket and #8’s tee box.

When #7’s basket is in the long position, it is only about 10 ft. from going under the bridge…and it’s a nearly blind shot from the tee box to the basket.

I think I’m close to the basket, but know that it was probably a little long. I get to the basket, and see my disc about 20 ft. past the basket, right under the bridge. In the dogs jaws. I asked the kids if they could get my disc from their dog and toss it to me…and they tell me they will for $5. I told them, “I don’t see that happening.” Luckily the dog dropped the disc and backed off when I went to pick it up…otherwise 4 vagabonds and 1 mutt were about to take an arse whipping. I missed the birdie putt too.

So DUNG was the cause of the original VEISHEA riots, I never knew... now if we only knew what happened this year.

At CSUMB, there is a manhole that periodically spews sewage heavily concentrated with used condoms. MMM. Everyone lands there once and only once...
As to why... Something to do with the college or the old military base..? Either way, kids, lesson for today is DON'T FLUSH CONDOMS!!!

Apr 26 2004, 04:17 PM
That is bleepin gross

My worst lie would be in the water!

Anything in the brush in Texas. First, there is almost always some poison ivy; second, down here if it doesn't stab or scratch you it will probably bite you. I have thrown twice in the bushes along bayous where I had to walk around cotton mouths to pull out my discs, and once into some brush where I saw a coral snake slither away. The coral snake was a good 20 yards off but nonetheless. After that, cow dip is a walk in the park.

My worst was on a swimming platform. My only question is does that count as O.B.?

Apr 28 2004, 08:56 AM
I haven't done it yet, but the course I normally play at gives you the oppertuity to end up right in the middle of one of the major cross-town highways (Highway 62 in the Twin Cities). I'd pick dog doo over a speeding semi any day. ;)

That doesn't sound very safe. Could you desribe the conditions that would result in such a lie? Would it take a 90 degree griplock to achieve that or does a shot that is just a little off-line end up near the highway?

Apr 28 2004, 10:56 AM
LAY OUT THE COURSE DESIGN SAFTEY LINES ON HIM JEFF!!!!!

PS, when is your next TX trip?

You're right, it isn't very safe at all. You tee off 6' away and parallel with a small, two lane road (the road and highway are to your left). On the other side of the road is a fence and on the other side of the fence is the ditch that leads to the highway. Also, the way the course is set up there is almost always a cross-wind pushing the discs twards the highway. If you get the nose up on your drive and don't aim enough to the right it ends up on the highway.

The only good part about it is there is plenty of room on the course opposite the highway and there are no obsticles. If you keep it low and to the right you are pretty much guranteed a good drive if you get any distance over 100' (it's perhaps a 250' hole, probably less) You're also encouraged not to overdrive because there is a steep hill immediately after the basket, not that that's a problem for us.

Anything left 30' short on a Ching.
They catch great, and are crazymad portable, I hate having to play them in temp. course tournaments. Good to practice on though, the limited catch zone gets you to improve your mechanics!

When I was playing an object course in the Northern Californian Desert, I drove into a badger hole. i did get my disc back and never saw the badger, but I was sweatin' it and threw my next shot as quick as possible before running away.

Jul 07 2004, 01:42 PM
Wasn't me but a few friends and I were playing shady oaks in CA we were on hole 17 my friend had what we thought was one of the quickest worm burnes ever but instead his disc got on it's side and rolled back toward us it rolled back past the tee pad and halfway down the fairway of the previous hole, that sucked and we all laughed

Ahh. Edina. I love that hole (4). I've never thrown on to the highway.

But i want to.

Both of these happened to my friend who has "discovered" disc golf with me. He's always had more power, but a more difficult time with his technique (he can throw 150' farther than me, but I'm always withing three shorts of him). Anyway:

1) Hole 5 (?) on the Tallahassee course. Straight, heavily tree-lined shot; you have a 10' or 15' wide corridor to throw down, and the main road through the park is to your right. He throws badly off the right, finds the only hole in the trees, and then finds the only dead armadillo within sight. The disk smelled for about two weeks...

2) Hole 12 (?) on the Tallahassee course. Much like the above, with a tree-lined corridor, but less dense and uphill. For some reason unclear to the two of us, there was a temporary electric fence to the left with rather loud sheep behind it (the fence, and the sheep, had disappeared the next week...aliens?). Of course, he lands about ten feet inside the fence line, and we spend about five minutes standing there and looking at it, discussing our options. None of the trees are in a good place to climb, so he decides to hurtle the fence. Though succesful, I had dialed 911 on my phone with my finger poised over the Send button...

Same disc in both cases.
