View Full Version : Another doubles question

Mar 20 2004, 11:33 PM
Today i played in a doubles tourney. This particular instance we were playing best score (play the hole separately and use the best score) and my partner drove within 25 feet. My drive was a shank. I threw my 2nd to about 40 feet. I was going to put my 40 footer, and a player on the other team said i could not put yet, because my partner could hit 2, and therefore i wouldn't be improving the score yet. This sounds completely bogus to me because i don't know if he will 3, 4 or 7 put (yeah it wouldn't happen be we DON'T actually know yet), so am i right in putting since i am away?? I know if he sinks two i can't put for three right? holes over, so i'm practicing. I know there are no official rule, but what is within reason of the "spirit" here?
Thanks

Yea, you can putt whenever you want long as your partner hasn't made the putt yet, even if you're closer than he is.

These are the PDGA approved rules for Best Score:

In Best Disc (also known as Best Score), each player plays the hole as they would while playing singles; there are no shared lies. The team score is the best score on the hole by one of its players.

The player who is away will always throw first, with this exception: If both players are lying the same number of throws, the team may choose which player throws first.

A player must pick up once it is impossible for him to better the team's score. The team incurs a warning for the first violation, and a penalty throw for subsequent violations.

In case of injury or disqualification, one partner may play alone.

Since you were away and you were not at an identical score, you had to putt first.

I don't recall seeing rules for best shot in the rulebook. I believe what you are telling me Bruce but could you point out what section it is under (can't find my own rulebook at this very moment) or if it is not in the rulebook could you tell me where you found this info?

I like the following rule in Worst Shot:

"A team found to be giving an opposing team a better lie will be disqualified for unsportsmanlike behavior. "

Just something slightly on topic about Best Score:

The three-man team event in Ludington on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend is a three-man best score round of 24 holes. At the end of each hole you have to choose which score to card and you have to get six scores from each player. It is a fun format that plays a selection of holes from all three courses.

I like him. He's funny.

It's also nice to have a board member that actually posts.

Jon, I'm looking forward to meeting you at World's this year.

When it starts getting closer, us posters will have to organize a social gathering at on of the local establishments in or near the host hotel.
